Based on interviews with corporate executives, this paper examines several decisions to locate pulp and paper mills in British Columbia during the 1960's and early 1970's. It emphasizes locational evaluations of regions, communities, and sites interpreted as parts of wider investment decision processes and longer-run corporate strategies. Relationships between initial locational decisions and post-locational assessments and adjustments are also identified.  相似文献

Abstract

New York City has long been the focus of the book publishing industry and will continue this role in spite of a recent trend toward decentralization. This study attempts to analyze the locational factors of this industry. The industry's historical origins are briefly presented and the dominance of New York is explained. The influence of materials and manufacturing costs on locational decisions are examined. Also, the somewhat strange relationship with markets is considered. The study is supported by quantitative data and two special measurements are presented — the Index of Productivity and the Sales Index.  相似文献

This paper charts major changes in the locational distribution of female prostitution in the Perth metropolitan area during the twentieth century, and aims to explain why these changes took place. The study confirmed that there is a positive relationship between changes to law enforcement policy and changes to the spatial distribution of the sex industry. Factors that affect law enforcement policy (and thus the location of prostitution) include the social stigma associated with prostitution, economic forces that compete for urban space and political pressures to contain and occasionally relocate the trade. At the same time, and despite a number of major spatial redistributions caused by changes to law enforcement policy in Perth, the central city area has remained the sex industry's geographical focus throughout the twentieth century. This strong preference to be centrally located is related to the sex industry's primary locational imperatives, being access to major client catchments and availability of appropriate operational premises. The paper argues that a complex set of endogenous and exogenous factors contribute to the locational behaviour of prostitution, and that these forces and their associated dynamics need to be understood in order to successfully integrate the sex industry into an equitable and orderly town planning process.  相似文献

美国民航1978年彻底市场化以来已经历30多年的发展,航空网络趋于成熟。我国民航也在经历市场化改革,机场属地化完成至今已近10年,运量快速增长、高铁建设等因素正剧烈地影响着网络演变。对比中美两国航空网络有利于判断我国航线网络和机场体系的演变趋势,对于我国民航发展具有借鉴意义。以中国大陆地区和美国本土48个州作为研究区,运用交通地理信息系统和VBA等技术,从绝对联系和首位联系两个角度,对当前中美两国航空客运网络层次结构和地域系统进行分析与对比。研究发现:中国航空客运网络已表现出一定的轴辐体系,但一级枢纽较少、客运压力过大,且航空枢纽重东南、轻中西;美国航空客运网络的轴辐体系已趋向完善,各大枢纽和重要城市之间的内部空间联系非常密切。进而,提出了一些政策性建议,以期对我国航空客运网络未来的空间发展形式和方向提供借鉴。  相似文献

The 50 largest firms headquartered in Pittsburgh were surveyed to examine the effects of telecommunications technology on office location. The results indicate that modern telecommunications and computer technologies will accelerate the deconcentration of office activities and that the traditional centrality of downtown will weaken. Financial institutions influenced by telecommunications in their locational decisions are more likely to decentralize their headquarters functions from the CBD than are other firm types. Large firms which use more advanced telecommunications technology are influenced more by the telecommunications factor when making their locational decisions. Use of more sophisticated telecommunications technology decreases the benefits of a CBD location, making it costlier to stay at a CBD location relative to a non-CBD location.  相似文献

不同于企业绿地投资优选最佳区位,并购投资的关键在于买方和标的企业间的配选、交易与整合,其时空动态性需要从并购双方地理分布格局、投资联系网络结构等方面进行刻画。本文以长三角作为研究案例区,通过企业并购投资数据库建构与多元技术方法应用,重点分析区域尺度的企业并购网络时空动态性,研究发现:① 长三角企业并购双方共同集聚特征明显,主要分布在上海以及沪宁、沪杭甬沿线地区,但并购双方空间集散趋势出现分化,标的企业向外围区扩散的态势更为明显,买方企业则进一步向上海和区域性中心城市市区集聚。② 长三角基于企业跨区域并购投资联系的县市(区)网络不断加密、拓展,但上海中心城区、浦东新区以及杭州、南京等城市市区的核心节点地位日益强化,核心区与外围区、一市三省、大都市与其周边地区之间企业并购投资联系强度的空间“不对称性”也较为明显。③ 伴随区域一体化发展进程,长三角企业并购网络时空动态性经历三个阶段,即单核心、弱网络联系阶段,单核心、多次级重要节点、网络联系加强阶段,多核心、多层级复杂网络结构基本形成阶段。企业本土并购网络的时空动态性探析有助于丰富经济地理学界的企业投资网络及区位模式研究,能够为全国促进企业兼并重组、推动区域经济转型升级发展等决策提供有益参考。  相似文献

Intraurban migration theory suggests that locational decisions are a function of housing subsectors, defined by quality, price, location, and tenure. The development of foreign ghettos in German cities is expected to increase if the intraurban migration and emigration-immigration behavior of Germans and foreigners is different among housing subsectors. In D'bsseldorf, five housing subsectors are present. Only the German population indicates differentiation between sectors. Differences in the individual foreigner nationalities are small, and the number of each group resident in a sector is the best indicator of future migration. On the basis of four years of migration data for a typical German city, it is projected that future ghetto formation in West Germany will be slow and hindered by the tight German housing market.  相似文献

This article uses remote sensing and spatial modeling to quantify and analyze land change in Mexico's largest protected area, the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve. Change trajectories are identified within distinct property regimes and between the Reserve's core and buffer zones. A parcel-level spatial econometric model identifies the driving forces of land use change in two communities located along the eastern edge of the Reserve, the locus of increased deforestation in 1987–1996. The study assesses the role of biophysical variables, locational context, household socioeconomics and institutional factors in driving deforestation. The results address the effectiveness of reserves and other state policy instruments in protecting forests.  相似文献

Fifteen years of academic concern about the extent, causes, and implications of the explosion of service activities as a proportion of regional and national employment and income have verified the increased proportion of employment in these activities, their tendencies toward concentration, their structural role in local economies, their potential to form part of a region's economic base, and their importance in assisting other activities in the regional economy. There has been some progress in modeling the locational needs of intermediate or producer services. Beyond this progress, however, lies much uncharted territory. This paper makes recommendations for the direction of basic research and of policy-oriented work.  相似文献

For some two millennia Istanbul has been one of the world's greatest cities, and is today classified as an "Alpha-" world city in the Globalization and World Cities (GaWC) group's 2010 rankings. Istanbul is an emerging global city that is facilitating Turkey's transnational integration into the global economy, and as of June 2009 the city had the second largest office stock among all Southeast European countries. This paper investigates the determinants of office rent levels in the city's Central Business District (CBD) and the spatial variation of rents in a polycentric metropolis. The paper uses a stepwise regression and a Mamdani-type fuzzy rule-based model to estimate office space rents, and compares empirical results with those of a conventional OLS regression analysis. Rents are driven not only by physical characteristics and locational services, but also the terms of lease contracts. New CBD locations that command the highest rents on spacious, high-rise office spaces with comparatively few employees conform well with contemporary accounts of world-city financial districts, and confirm the significance of urban office infrastructures for globally oriented financial elites beyond the familiar roster of Global North world cities. The traditional center retains the core purpose identified nearly a century ago, in Marshall's analysis of centralization during the most vibrant period of the industrial age. Despite all the transformations of transnational urbanist polycentricity, the traditional CBD is still the place with the most diverse mix of activities, and the greatest variation in rents.  相似文献

本文从经济区位论的角度,研究了区位政策的目标和手段、以及它们对区域经济发展的作用。主要提出以下观点:①各级政府或决策部门可通过一定的区位政策,如区位投资环境的改善、区位补助金和区位倾斜政策等来诱导或限制个人或企业的经济活动行为的空间选择,最终实现国土的有效、均衡和可持续的发展;②区位政策对区域经济发展的作用主要表现在可以使利益空间的界限扩大或缩小,加速或缓减产业的空间集中或分散,刺激新产业区位生长点的形成,以及缩小区域经济差异等。  相似文献

Over the past century the cultural and physical landscape of the Shire of Denmark on the south coast of Western Australia has been transformed by successive waves of in-migrants. The paper examines the period since the early 1970s when alternative lifestylers and early retirees, attracted by the district's natural beauty and low land prices, began moving in and acquiring former Group Settlement holdings. The activities of these and subsequent 'alternatives' and 'cashed out' early retirees settling in the district have raised the marketability of the Shire's cultural capital. These changes have occurred in association with broader processes of rural restructuring and changing notions of 'rurality'. Increasingly, Denmark's cultural and physical landscape has become a highly marketable product for consumption by Perth's affluent middle classes. In recent years land prices have risen rapidly as speculators and financiers seek to 'cash in' on the 'cashed out' society. The paper explores these issues and relates them to broader processes of economic and social change occurring at the national and international levels.  相似文献

全球跨境与本土并购活动日益频繁,有效地促进了企业各类要素跨区域、跨部门流动,是产业转型与空间重构乃至重塑区域经济地理格局的重要动力。企业并购逐渐成为经济地理学界研究的重要内容。相关研究利用经典区位分析、企业组织及空间扩张、产业地理集聚、全球生产网络(GPNs)等经济地理学理论和方法,从企业自身组织与空间结构演化、企业间及地方多维临近性等角度,广泛探讨了企业并购投资区位选择的时空特征、形成机制及其空间效应等议题。主要研究结论为:①企业并购投资区位选择在不同空间尺度上均呈现“核心—边缘”结构,而企业所在区域和行业属性,企业间地理、组织、认知临近性,地方间经济社会联系等是其重要影响因素。②企业并购投资的空间效应主要体现在企业增长及其空间扩张、产业转型与空间重构,区域经济发展、劳动力就业、地方商业与制度环境、区域差异与区域一体化等方面。在总结国内外研究成果的基础上,本文指出中国经济地理学领域企业并购研究的不足和方向,以期为相关研究提供有益借鉴。  相似文献

Attention has been devoted to the globalization of international property investments during the 1980s and the role of Japanese investors in major financial centers and tourist resorts. This research seeks to establish how the locational preferences of Japanese investors in North American real estate markets were established. It utilizes a survey of 39 Japanese investment companies, together with important secondary data on investment outcomes, and distinguishes a number of ways in which information concerning overseas real estate investment opportunities was reviewed by decision makers in Japan. The results show that Japanese investors, far from being footloose, had fairly fixed locational preferences, were tied to a restricted range of centers (mainly New York, Los Angeles, and Hawaii), and hesitated to expand into a wider range of locations even after some time. Japanese investor behavior is shown to have ramifications for “world city” theory.  相似文献

目前,我国产业已由高速发展阶段进入竞争阶段,研究产业竞争力具有非常重要的理论和现实意义。本文分析了产业竞争力的内涵,认为产业竞争力是在一定贸易条件下,产业所具有的开拓市场、占据市场并以此获得比竞争对手更多利润的能力,产业竞争力是衔接国家竞争力和企业竞争力的纽带。比较优势和竞争优势是产业竞争力研究的理论基础,比较优势是竞争优势的基础,竞争优势可以加强比较优势。影响产业竞争力的因素主要包括资源禀赋、区位条件、科学技术、产业组织和政策环境,并对它们进行了简要分析。最后,构建了用区位商综合评价产业竞争力的方法,并用其对东部沿海省市的制造业竞争力进行了评价。  相似文献

本文研究了中国石化产业空间组织的演进及格局,探讨了其影响因子及作用机制。研究认为,中国石化产业空间组织经历了内陆分散布局、沿海局部快速集聚及沿海全面加速扩张三个阶段。经过60年发展,中国已形成了“十大石化产业基地”.原材料、市场和政策因素是影响中国石化产业空间组织的三大主导因素,各因素在不同阶段的作用强度存在差异。在石化产业发展的早期,原材料是影响石化产业布局的主要因素,在此因素的影响下,中国石化产业主要布局在原油丰富的东北和西北地区。改革开放以来,随着工业化和城市化进程的加快,市场成为影响石化产业空间布局的主导因素,中国石化产业开始向沿海局部地区布局。2000年以来,在原材料、市场、政策等多种因素驱动下,石化产业加速向沿海地区集聚,沿海石化产业带初步形成,无序扩张态势初现端倪。  相似文献

Singapore has a remarkable reputation for its successful deployment of limited resources and for its strength and stability even during Asia's current economic crisis. Widespread recognition and attempts by other countries and cities at emulation of some of the strategies it has adopted have confirmed that Singapore has achieved longstanding aspirations for excellence in many areas. As Singapore positions itself to enter the new millennium the government's distinctive and sometimes controversial corporate management style is evidenced in its approach to such matters as growing the economy, enhancing the physical infrastructure, constraining residential segregation, and encouraging increased family size to enhance domestic labour supply. Sometimes it is the means of achieving the desired ends which attracts criticism, at others it is the goals themselves which are questioned. This paper examines some of the features of Singapore's drive to enhance its regional and global role in vastly different circumstances from those which confronted the same government at internal independence in 1959 and full independence in 1965.  相似文献
