X-ray diffraction techniques were employed to evaluate the shock stress suffered by naturally shocked materials from the Shergotty achondrite. Experimentally shocked augite and enstatite, subjected to pressures from 22 to 60 GPa, served as standards. The Shergotty pyroxenes reveal formation of continuous diffraction rings, line broadening, preferred orientation of small scale diffraction domains, and other evidence of substantial lattice disorder; they are hybrids between single crystals and fine-grained, random powders as revealed by Debye-Scherrer techniques. As expected from optical studies related to the degree of mosaicism, which is not sensitively related to peak pressures up to 70 GPa, the pyroxene lattice is very resistant to shock damage on smaller scales also as revealed by Debye-Scherrer and powder difractometer X-ray techniques. While measurable lattice disaggregation and progressive fragmentation occurs up to approximately 25 GPa, little additional damage is suffered from 30 to 60 GPa. Thus, pressure calibration of naturally shocked pyroxenes via optical and x-ray methods continues to be difficult.Powder diffractometer scans on pure maskelynite fractions of Shergotty reveal small amounts of still coherently diffracting plagioclase. Future studies should clarify whether such material, possibly of small size and scattered throughout many maskelynite grains, is responsible for the unusually high refractive indices reported for the diaplectic feldspar glasses of Shergotty.  相似文献

In the Myanmar jadeitite area of Pharkan, amphibole felses occur between jadeitites and serpentinized dunites. These so-called amphibole fels boundary zones were studied optically and by electron microprobe, and found to include the six amphibole species magnesiokatophorite (Mg-kat), nyböite (Nyb), eckermannite (Eck), glaucophane (Gln), richterite (Rich) and winchite (Win). In most samples, the two main amphibole species Mg-kat and Eck coexist with amphiboles containing variable amounts of components of the remaining four species, as well as with the clinopyroxenes jadeite (Jd), omphacite (Omp) and kosmochlor (Ko). However, Mg-kat, Nyb and Eck are also present as separate phases as well as in zoned porphyroblasts with Mg-kat in the core, Nyb in the inner rims, and Eck in the outer rims. The analytical data on such zoned amphiboles reveal that the chemistry changes from core to inner rim by virtue of the substitution NaAlCa -1Mg -1 (glaucophane vector), and from the inner to the outer rim along MgSiAl -1Al -1 (tschermak vector). The overall substitution from core to outer rim is, therefore, along NaSiCa -1Al -1 (plagioclase vector). Based on the Si content, three groups can be distinguished within Eck: Eck coexisting with Nyb has low Si contents of <7.6 a.p.f.u., Eck rimming Nyb has higher Si contents of 7.6–8.0 a.p.f.u., and fine-grained Eck in the matrix has Si contents of 7.9–8.0 a.p.f.u. Plotting the amphibole analyses in a compositional volume with the axes (Na+K) in A, Na in M(4), and tetrahedral Si shows that three groups of amphibole compositions can be distinguished, one being subdivided into three subsets. Group A contains Rich and Mg-kat, B comprises of Win and Gln, whereas the subsets C can be defined as follows: C1: high-Na amphiboles with low tetrahedral Si; these are mainly amphiboles from the Eck field but overlap with the two fields of Gln and Win; C2: high-Na and low-Si Ecks overlapping to high-Si Nybs; this group is midway between Eck and Nyb end members; C3: high-Na Mg-kats. Textural observations indicate three stages of sodic and sodic–calcic amphibole growth: stage 1 are amphiboles of group A (Mg-kat+Rich), stage 2 are amphiboles of group C2 (Nyb+Eck with Si<7.6 a.p.f.u.), and stage 3 are amphiboles of groups C1 and B (Eck with Si>7.6 a.p.f.u., +Gln+Win). Based on the subdivision into the compositional groups A–C, the only hint to a miscibility gap is provided by the large gap in the (Na+K) content on the A site which may point to a possible solvus in the system Eck–Win. Overall, the amphiboles investigated here show discontinuities in their growth compositions, rather than miscibility gaps. Textural observations suggest amphibole formation during fluid infiltration in the contact zone between the jadeitite bodies and the surrounding peridotite under high-pressure conditions (>1.0 GPa) and rather low temperatures of about 250–370 °C. Based on compositional trends within the amphiboles as well as phase-equilibrium constraints between amphibole and coexisting pyroxene solid solutions, the chemical composition of zoned amphibole porphyroblasts indicates two growth episodes—increasing pressures from stage 1 to stage 2 lead to the formation of Nyb from Mg-kat, and subsequently decreasing pressures lead to the formation of stage 3 Eck from Rich.  相似文献

The Cenozoic volcanism of western Saudi Arabia extends from southern Yemen to Jordan northward. They cover an area of nearly 180,000 km2. The rocks are dominated by alkali olivine basalts and olivine basalts. Al-Wahbah crater, a part of Harrat Kishb, represents a model occurrence to study the gneisses of these rocks. New mineral chemistry and isotopic data are presented. It aims to follow the isotopic, mineralogical, and thermobarometry variations among these volcanics. Amphiboles of the studied volcanics belong to the monoclinic calcic group. The chemistry of the amphibole crystals shows two ranges of pressure. They are 3.6–5.6 and 0.38–0.78 kbar. The Aliv values of the amphiboles are in the range of 1.202 and 1.407, indicating corresponding temperature condition of 820–920 and 620–720 °C, respectively. The feldspar of the studied samples has the composition of plagioclase, though some grains have sanidine composition. They are formed in temperature range of 975 and 400 °C. The coexisting amphiboles and plagioclases indicate two sets of pressure and temperature. They are 540–575 °C (3.5–4 kbar) and 510–525 °C (~2 kbar), respectively. Rb–Sr isochron of the whole rock yields an age of 0.867 ± 0.160 Ma with initial Sr87/Sr86 of 0.702 ± 0.00086. The low initial ratio of Sr87/Sr86 together with positive values of εNd today implies that the studied volcanics have mantle source. Meanwhile, the present isotopic data suggest extraction of juvenile magma from asthenosphere source. The present study shows that the Al-Wahbah crater rocks belong to Cenozoic basalts and indicate EM-I-like signature.  相似文献

The Dergaon fall represents a shock-melted H4-5(S5) ordinary chondrite which includes at least ten textural varieties of chondrules and belongs to the high chondrule-matrix ratio type. Our study reveals that the chondrules are of diverse mineralogy with variable olivine-pyroxene ratios(Type Ⅱ),igneous melt textures developed under variable cooling rates and formed through melt fractionations from two different melt reservoirs.Based on the experimental analogues, mineralogical associations and phase compositions,it is suggested that the Dergaon chondrules reflect two contrasting environments:a hot,dust-enriched and highly oxidized nebular environment through melting, without significant evaporation, and an arrested reducing environment concomitant with major evaporation loss of alkali and highly volatile trace elements.Coexistence of chlorapatite and merrillite suggests formation of the Dergaon matrix in an acidic accretionary environment.Textural integration and chemical homogenization occurred at ~ 1 atmospheric pressure and a mean temperature of 765 C mark the radiogenic thermal event.Equilibrated shock features(olivine mosaicism, diaplectic plagioclase, polycrystalline troilite) due to an impact-induced thermal event reflect a shock pressure 45 GPa and temperature of 600 C.By contrast, the local disequilibrium shock features(silicate melt veins comprising of olivine crystallites, troilite melt veins and metal droplets) correspond to a shock pressure up to 75 GPa and temperature950 ℃.  相似文献

The Tonglvshan deposit is the largest Cu–Fe (Au) skarn deposit in the Edong district, which is located in the westernmost part of the Middle and Lower Yangtze River metallogenic belt, China. In this study, we performed a detailed in situ analysis of major and trace elements in amphiboles from the ore-related Tonglvshan quartz monzodiorite porphyry using electron microprobe (EMPA) analysis and laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS). Two distinct populations of amphiboles, which can be distinguished by their aluminum content, are found in the quartz monzodiorite porphyry. The low-aluminum (Low-Al) amphiboles are subhedral or anhedral and formed at 46.3–73.5 MPa and 713–763 °C. In contrast, the high-aluminum (High-Al) amphiboles are euhedral and formed at 88–165 MPa and 778–854 °C. Some euhedral amphiboles are partially or completely replaced by Low-Al amphibole. The compositions of parental melts in equilibrium with the High-Al amphibole (Melt 1) and Low-Al amphibole (Melt 2) were computed by applying solid/liquid partition coefficients. This modeling shows that magma in equilibrium with High-Al amphibole (Melt 1) underwent 40% fractional crystallization of amphibole, plagioclase and apatite at a depth of ~5 km to evolve to magma in equilibrium with Low-Al amphibole (Melt 2). Copper enrichment occurred in the magma after undergoing fractional crystallization. The magma had a high oxygen fugacity, increasing from NNO + 1 (Melt 1) through NNO + 2 to HM (Melt 2), which could have prevented the loss of Cu (and possibly Au) to sulfide minerals during crystallization. Finally, the evolved magma intruded to shallower depths, where it presumably exsolved aqueous ore-forming fluids. Therefore, the large Cu–Fe–Au reserves of the Tonglvshan deposit can likely be attributed to a combination of controlling factors, including high oxygen fugacity, fractional crystallization, fluid exsolution, and a shallow emplacement depth.  相似文献

Experiments have been done which simulate the modal metasomatism of spinel lherzolite by partial melts of the subducted slab. The experiments were designed so that the metasomatizing melts were generated during the experiments by partial melting of a slab analog (basaltic composition amphibolite). The melts are thought to be representative of hybridizing melts in that they are derived by high-pressure partial melting under conditions appropriate to a hot slab geotherm. During the experiments, the melts infiltrate into and metasomatize a model depleted peridotite. Chemical modifications to minerals in the peridotite are of the same nature and extent as those found in naturally metasomatized spinel lherzolites. Modal metasomatism produced pargasitic amphiboles in runs at 1.5 GPa and in all but the highest temperature run at 2.0 GPa. The amphiboles are indistinguishable from amphiboles found in amphibole-bearing peridotites from supra-subduction zone environments. Systematic variations in amphibole composition suggest that the melt infiltration process in the experiments involved continuous modification of the composition of the infiltrating melt as observed around inferred quenched melt (i.c., amphibolite or amphibolite/clinopyroxenite) veins in xenoliths and massif peridotites. The compositions of the initial and final mineral phases in the experiments and those of the metasomatizing melts are used to derive amphibole formation reactions at 1.5 and 2.0 GPa that are similar in form to those inferred in studies of natural amphibole-bearing peridotites. The metasomatism reactions show that the extent of amphibole formation in peridotite at 1.5 and 2.0 GPa will, in general, be limited by clinopyroxene and spinel abundance.  相似文献

Ciomadul is the youngest volcano in the Carpathian–Pannonian region produced crystal-rich high-K dacites that contain abundant amphibole phenocrysts. The amphiboles in the studied dacites are characterized by large variety of zoning patterns, textures, and a wide range of compositions (e.g., 6.4–15 wt% Al2O3, 79–821 ppm Sr) often in thin-section scale and even in single crystals. Two amphibole populations were observed in the dacite: low-Al hornblendes represent a cold (<800 °C) silicic crystal mush, whereas the high-Al pargasites crystallized in a hot (>900 °C) mafic magma. Amphibole thermobarometry suggests that the silicic crystal mush was stored in an upper crustal storage (~8–12 km). This was also the place where the erupted dacitic magma was formed during the remobilization of upper crustal silicic crystal mush body by hot mafic magma indicated by simple-zoned and composite amphiboles. This includes reheating (by ~200 °C) and partial remelting of different parts of the crystal mush followed by intensive crystallization of the second mineral population (including pargasites). Breakdown textures of amphiboles imply that they were formed by reheating in case of hornblendes, suggesting that pre-eruptive heating and mixing could take place within days or weeks before the eruption. The decompression rim of pargasites suggests around 12 days of magma ascent in the conduit. Several arc volcanoes produce mixed intermediate magmas with similar bimodal amphibole cargo as the Ciomadul, but in our dacite the two amphibole population can be found even in a single crystal (composite amphiboles). Our study indicates that high-Al pargasites form as a second generation in these magmas after the mafic replenishment into a silicic capture zone; thus, they cannot unambiguously indicate a deeper mafic storage zone beneath these volcanoes. The simple-zoned and composite amphiboles provide direct evidence that significant compositional variations of amphiboles do not necessarily mean variation in the pressure of crystallization even if the Al-tschermak substitution can be recognized, suggesting that amphibole barometers that consider only amphibole composition may often yield unrealistic pressure variation.  相似文献

Phenocryst assemblages of lavas from the long-lived Aucanquilcha Volcanic Cluster (AVC) have been probed to assess pressure and temperature conditions of pre-eruptive arc magmas. Andesite to dacite lavas of the AVC erupted throughout an 11-million-year, arc magmatic cycle in the central Andes in northern Chile. Phases targeted for thermobarometry include amphibole, plagioclase, pyroxenes, and Fe–Ti oxides. Overall, crystallization is documented over 1–7.5 kbar (~25 km) of pressure and ~680–1,110 °C of temperature. Pressure estimates range from ~1 to 5 kbar for amphiboles and from ~3 to 7.5 kbar for pyroxenes. Pyroxene temperatures are tightly clustered from ~1,000–1,100 °C, Fe–Ti oxide temperatures range from ~750–1,000 °C, and amphibole temperatures range from ~780–1,050 °C. Although slightly higher, these temperatures correspond well with previously published zircon temperatures ranging from ~670–900 °C. Two different Fe–Ti oxide thermometers (Andersen and Lindsley 1985; Ghiorso and Evans 2008) are compared and agree well. We also compare amphibole and amphibole–plagioclase thermobarometers (Ridolfi et al. 2010; Holland and Blundy 1994; Anderson and Smith 1995), the solutions from which do not agree well. In samples where we employ multiple thermometers, pyroxene temperature estimates are always highest, zircon temperature estimates are lowest, and Fe–Ti oxide and amphibole temperature estimates fall in between. Maximum Fe–Ti oxide and zircon temperatures are observed during the middle stage of AVC activity (~5–3 Ma), a time associated with increased eruption rates. Amphibole temperatures during this time are relatively restricted (~850–1,000 °C). The crystal record presented here offers a time-transgressive view of an evolving, multi-tiered subvolcanic reservoir. Some crystals in AVC lavas are likely to be true phenocrysts, but the diversity of crystallization temperatures and pressures recorded by phases in individual AVC lavas suggests erupting magma extensively reams and accumulates crystals from disparate levels of the middle to upper crust.  相似文献

In situ trace element analyses of constituent minerals in mantle xenoliths occurring in an alnöite diatreme and in nephelinite plugs emplaced within the central zone of the Damara Belt have been determined by laser ablation ICP-MS. Primitive mantle-normalized trace element patterns of clinopyroxene and amphibole indicate the presence of both depleted MORB-like mantle and variably enriched mantle beneath this region. Clinopyroxenes showing geochemical depletion have low La/Smn ratios (0.02–0.2), whereas those showing variable enrichment have La/Smn ranging up to 3.8 and La/Ybn to 9.1. The most enriched clinopyroxenes coexist with amphibole showing similar REE patterns (La/Smn = 1.3–4.1; La/Ybn = 4.5–9). Primitive mantle-normalized trace element patterns allow further groups to be distinguished amongst the variably enriched clinopyroxenes: one having strong relative depletion in Rb–Ba, Ta–Nb and relative enrichment in Th–U; another with similar characteristics but with additional strong relative depletion in Zr–Hf; and one showing no significant anomalies. Amphiboles show similar normalized trace element patterns to co-existing clinopyroxene. Clinopyroxene and amphiboles showing LREEN enrichment have high Sr and low Nd isotope ratios compared to clinopyroxene with LREE-depleted patterns. Numerical simulation of melt percolation through the mantle via reactive porous flow is used to show that the chromatographic affect associated with such a melt migration process is able to account for the fractionation seen in La–Ce–Nd in cryptically metasomatized clinopyroxenes in Type 1 xenoliths, where melt–matrix interactions occur near the percolation front, whereas REE patterns in clinopyroxenes proximal to the source of metasomatic melt/fluid match those found in modally metasomatized Type 2 xenoliths. The strong fractionation between Rb–Ba, Th–U and Ta–Nb shown by some cryptically metasomatized xenoliths can be also accounted for by reactive porous flow, provided amphibole crystallizes from the percolating melt/fluid close to its source. The presence of amphibole in vein-like structures in some xenoliths is consistent with this interpretation. The strong depletion in Zr–Hf in clinopyroxene and amphibole in some xenoliths cannot be accounted for by melt migration processes and requires metasomatism by a separate carbonate-rich melt/fluid. When taken together with published isotope data on these same xenoliths, the source of metasomatic enrichment of the previously depleted (MORB-like) sub-Damaran lithospheric mantle is attributed to the upwelling Tristan plume head at the time of continental breakup.  相似文献

Shock veins up to 1.1 mm thick were found within non-porous lithic clasts from suevite breccia of the Nördlinger Ries impact structure. These veins were studied by optical microscopy in transmitted and reflected light and by scanning electron microscopy. In shocked amphibolites, two types of Ca-rich majorite occur within and adjacent to the veins. The first type crystallized from shock-induced melts within the veins. Si contents of these majorites suggest dynamic pressure of ~15–17 GPa, implying minimum temperatures in the range of ~2,150–2,230°C. The second type of majorite was formed adjacent to the shock veins within pargasitic hornblende. This majorite contains significant amounts of H2O (0.7–0.9 wt%). Based on the textural setting, the shrinkage cracks and the chemical compositions of both phases, a solid-state mechanism is deduced for the hornblende to majorite phase transition. Both genetic types of Ca-rich majorite are described for the first time from a terrestrial impact crater. Along with stishovite, majorite constitutes the second silicate mineral displaying sixfold coordination of Si at Ries. Using micro-Raman spectroscopy, jadeite + coesite and jadeite + grossular were identified within local melt glasses of alkali feldspar and plagioclase composition, respectively. Stishovite aggregates, produced by solid-state reaction, along with shock-induced high-pressure melt glasses of almandine composition were also detected in shock veins of a garnet-cordierite-sillimanite restite. The quenched, homogeneous almandine glasses point to melting temperatures of more than ~2,500°C for the veins. Our findings demonstrate that terrestrial shock veins can give valuable information on shock-induced mineral transformations and transient high pressures of host rocks during a natural impact event.  相似文献

The composition of igneous amphiboles is extremely sensitive to magma composition and the nature of the co-existing phases. The extent of solid solution in amphiboles may be depicted in the basalt tetrahedron. They are more silica-undersaturated than the liquid from which they have crystallized for liquids containing about 11% normative nepheline. For liquids containing more than 11% normative nepheline the reverse is true. The existence of this compositional divide may be demonstrated for both intrusive and extrusive suites. Amphiboles are generally nepheline-normative, except when crystallizing from granodioritic to granitic magmas.Fractionation factors between amphibole and magma composition for MgO and FeO appear to increase with decreasing temperature; those for TiO2 and Na2O decrease with increasing pressure. The CaO content of amphiboles appears to be insensitive to the CaO content of the magma.  相似文献

We study the first occurrence of clinopyroxene-free garnet bearing metabasites encased in migmatitic gneisses and metapelites, in the area of Tin Begane belonging to the Laouni terrane in the Pan-African Trans-Saharan belt (Hoggar, Algeria). They present two successive parageneses after a primary assemblage characterized by the presence of high titanium amphiboles equilibrated with coarse-grained garnet, plagioclase, biotite, quartz, and rutile. The two retrograde parageneses show decompression textures with the developing of coronas- and worm-like symplectites consisting of orthopyroxene + plagioclase ± amphibole for the secondary paragenesis and plagioclase + amphibole for the late stage paragenesis. These garnet metabasites do not show high pressure paragenesese compared to those previously studied from the Laouni terrane and which are known to present at least one high pressure paragenesis involving primary pyroxenes. We investigate the exhumation of these metabasites by combining detailed petrographic and thermobarometric studies in order to constrain the P-T conditions for each metamorphic stage. The results suggest an isothermal decompression from peak granulitic conditions (850 ± 50 ° C and 0.85 ± 0.15 GPa) down to transitional granulitic conditions (830 ±50 ° C and 0.5 ±0.1 GPa) followed by a cooling episode to the amphibolite-greenschist facies transition at 480 ± 80 ° C and 0.4– 0.5 GPa. These conditions are consistent with a tectonic exhumation process most likely provoked by a lithospheric thinning accompanied by a magmatic episode and partial melting of the lower continental crust.  相似文献

Gabbros have been dredged from Gettysburg Bank, 110 km west of Portugal on the Azores/Gibraltar fracture zone. Primary minerals in olivine, pyroxene and brown hornblende gabbros are partially replaced by metamorphic minerals. Igneous textures are inhomogeneously overprinted by a granular polyhedral deformation and a cataclastic deformation. Amphiboles show characteristics which indicate a transition from crystallisation in a magma chamber to formation of amphibole in solid gabbro under metasomatic conditions. Of the amphiboles analysed, chlorine was present in the green amphiboles but below 0.05% in the brown suggesting the penetration of sea water after the formation of the brown amphibole but during the formation of the green.  相似文献

Lavas and pyroclastic products of Nisyros volcano (Aegean arc, Greece) host a wide variety of phenocryst and cumulate assemblages that offer a unique window into the earliest stages of magma differentiation. This study presents a detailed petrographic study of lavas, enclaves and cumulates spanning the entire volcanic history of Nisyros to elucidate at which levels in the crust magmas stall and differentiate. We present a new division for the volcanic products into two suites based on field occurrence and petrographic features: a low-porphyricity andesite and a high-porphyricity (rhyo)dacite (HPRD) suite. Cumulate fragments are exclusively found in the HPRD suite and are predominantly derived from upper crustal reservoirs where they crystallised under hydrous conditions from melts that underwent prior differentiation. Rarer cumulate fragments range from (amphibole-)wehrlites to plagioclase-hornblendites and these appear to be derived from the lower crust (0.5–0.8 GPa). The suppressed stability of plagioclase and early saturation of amphibole in these cumulates are indicative of high-pressure crystallisation from primitive hydrous melts (≥ 3 wt% H2O). Clinopyroxene in these cumulates has Al2O3 contents up to 9 wt% due to the absence of crystallising plagioclase, and is subsequently consumed in a peritectic reaction to form primitive, Al-rich amphibole (Mg# > 73, 12–15 wt% Al2O3). The composition of these peritectic amphiboles is distinct from trace element-enriched interstitial amphibole in shallower cumulates. Phenocryst compositions and assemblages in both suites differ markedly from the cumulates. Phenocrysts, therefore, reflect shallow crystallisation and do not record magma differentiation in the deep arc crust.  相似文献

This experimental study simulates the interaction of hotter, deeper hydrous mantle melts with shallower, cooler depleted mantle, a process that is expected to occur in the upper part of the mantle wedge. Hydrous reaction experiments (~6 wt% H2O in the melt) were conducted on three different ratios of a 1.6 GPa mantle melt and an overlying 1.2 GPa harzburgite from 1060 to 1260 °C. Reaction coefficients were calculated for each experiment to determine the effect of temperature and starting bulk composition on final melt compositions and crystallizing assemblages. The experiments used to construct the melt–wall rock model closely approached equilibrium and experienced <5% Fe loss or gain. Experiments that experienced higher extents of Fe loss were used to critically evaluate the practice of “correcting” for Fe loss by adding iron. At low ratios of melt/mantle (20:80 and 5:95), the crystallizing assemblages are dunites, harzburgites, and lherzolites (as a function of temperature). When the ratio of deeper melt to overlying mantle is 70:30, the crystallizing assemblage is a wehrlite. This shows that wehrlites, which are observed in ophiolites and mantle xenoliths, can be formed by large amounts of deeper melt fluxing though the mantle wedge during ascent. In all cases, orthopyroxene dissolves in the melt, and olivine crystallizes along with pyroxenes and spinel. The amount of reaction between deeper melts and overlying mantle, simulated here by the three starting compositions, imposes a strong influence on final melt compositions, particularly in terms of depletion. At the lowest melt/mantle ratios, the resulting melt is an extremely depleted Al-poor, high-Si andesite. As the fraction of melt to mantle increases, final melts resemble primitive basaltic andesites found in arcs globally. An important element ratio in mantle lherzolite composition, the Ca/Al ratio, can be significantly elevated through shallow mantle melt–wall rock reaction. Wall rock temperature is a key variable; over a span of <80 °C, reaction with deeper melt creates the entire range of mantle lithologies from a depleted dunite to a harzburgite to a refertilized lherzolite. Together, the experimental phase equilibria, melt compositions, and reaction coefficients provide a framework for understanding how melt–wall rock reaction occurs in the natural system during melt ascent in the mantle wedge.  相似文献

Antigorite is one kind of hydrous serpentine that is present in meteorites and in the Earth mantle. In order to understand its dynamic behaviors, metastability and decomposition, shock experiments on antigorite have been conducted using a two-stage gas gun, and wave profiles of particle velocities have been measured to obtain the Hugoniot up to ~130 GPa and sound velocity at high pressures. The results show three regions of low-pressure phase below ~43 GPa and its metastable extension above a pressure of ~43 GPa for short durations of shock and high-pressure phase(s) above a pressure of ~43 GPa for long durations of shock. The dynamic behaviors of antigorite depend on not only the pressure but also the compression duration. Metastable extension state indicates that antigorite may survive beyond the stability depending on the shock conditions. Shock temperatures for antigorite are calculated along the Hugoniot. The pressure–density, sound velocity–pressure and shock temperature–pressure plots demonstrate that the decomposition reaction of antigorite into high-pressure phase(s) is accompanied by a volume expansion, sound velocity increase and temperature decrease, relative to the metastable extension phase above ~43 GPa. The decomposition should be sluggish and needs enough reaction time to complete and to overcome the activation energy. As a result of the high metastability of antigorite and possible decomposition assemblages, the hydrous serpentine (antigorite) may play a crucial role for the origin of water during the Earth accretion.  相似文献

Two moderately shocked rock samples collected from the Ries Crater, West Germany (granite—gneiss sample RC-647-29 and biotite-granite sample RP-627-55) and two weakly shocked pegmatite samples (Lj-711-12 and Lj-711-5) taken from Lake Lappajarvi, Finland, have been optically studied to establish the variation range of optical constants and distribution characteristics of shock lamellae in shocked quartz. It has been found that sample RC-647-29 contains shocked quartz grains with the average refractive index ranging from 1.4612 to 1.5331, and sample RP-627-55 from 1.5002 to 1.4669, i.e., they cover a wide range of shock pressures. As for the larger quartz grains in samples Lj-711-12 and Lj-711-5, the variation range of the average refractive indices are smaller than those of samples from the Ries Crater. Hence the estimation of degree of shock must est with the investigation of a set of representative shocked quartz crystals from a single shocked rock sample. The optical data on shocked quartz indicate that the degree of shock is highly independent of the number of shock lamellae sets and their orientations; the most sensitive optical indicator is the index of refraction. On the basis of TEM investigations of single crystal grains of shocked quartz differing in refractive index, three mechanisms of formation of shock lamellae have been established: host quartz crystals with lamellae having closely spaced dislocations; host quartz crystals with lamellae of randomly oriented fine grains of quartz; and host quartz crystals or their residual fragments with lamellae of silica glass.
