An attempt is made to demonstrate the possibility of the existence of one more layer—pinchrosphere—in the structure of atmospheres of late-type stars—later than G5. Pinchrosphere is the coolest layer with very low electron temperature, 5500K, it is located on the photosphere and near the inner boundary of the chromosphere. Practically all elements in pinchrosphere, particularly hydrogen and magnesium, are in neutral state. The main physical parameters of the pinchrosphere are derived.  相似文献

We identified the family of the binary asteroid 423 Diotima consisting of 411 members in the phase space of orbital elements—semimajor axes a (or mean motions n), eccentricities e, and inclinations i—by using an electronic version of the ephemerides of minor planets EMP-2003 containing osculating orbital elements for 34992 asteroids of the main belt. The 9/4 resonance with Jupiter clearly separates the family of 423 Diotima from the family of Eos, which, according to EMP for 2003, contains 1204 asteroids.  相似文献

The first image under the flow of the restricted three-body problem of the pq resonant strips — that appear in the study of the pq resonant orbits — do not have, in general, intersection with the strip. We use optical and infrared imaging data of a complete hard X-ray selected sample of AGN to investigate the host galaxies of nearby Seyfert 1 nuclei. We disentangle the emission due to the unresolved point source and the resolved host galaxy by means of luminosity profile fitting. The stellar colours in the nucleus are redder inB — V andV — K than in normal spiral bulges or current stellar evolutionary models, probably due to dust obscuration.J — H colour is quite normal butH — K usually very red, probably indicating a large contribution from reradiating hot dust to the IR colours. No significant difference in IR colours oi the stellar component is found with respect to a comparison sample of Liners and starbursts, except that the reradiating dust in Seyferts tends to be hotter and lie closer to the nucleus.B — V colour gets slightly bluer towards the nucleus, whereasV — K andJ — K have red gradients.B — V andJ — K gradients are not correlated and are likely to be caused by different mechanisms. There is a clear correlation between the AGN and host luminosity. Finally, we present optical colour ratio maps of two Seyfert nuclei, NGC 3227 and NGC 7469. The blue, ringlike or elongated structure in the maps and its correspondence with molecular CO geometry is interpreted as evidence for circumnuclear star formation in these AGN.  相似文献

Exploring one of the most pristine bodies in our solar system — a comet — with a spacecraft will be a great step towards a deeper understanding of our solar system's beginnings. We here present the advanced space experiment CoMA (cometarymatteranalyzer), which will be flown on NASA's cometary rendezvous and asteroid flyby mission CRAF. CoMA is a high resolution time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometer. It will analyze m-sized cometary dust grains and cometary gases with an unprecedented mass resolution and will yield data about the elemental, isotopic, and molecular composition.  相似文献

I investigate the problem of high dynamic range continuum synthesis imaging in the presence of confusing sources, using scaling arguments and simulations. I derive a quantified cost equation for the computer hardware needed to support such observations for the EVLA and the SKA. This cost has two main components – from the data volume, scaling as D−6 (where D is the antenna diameter), and from the non-coplanar baselines effect, scaling as D−2, for a total scaling of D−8. A factor of two in antenna diameter thus corresponds to 12 years of Moore’s law (18 month doubling time) cost reduction in computing hardware. For a SKA built with 12.5 m antennas observing with 1 arcsecond at 1.4 GHz, I find the computing load to be about 150 Petaflops (costing about $500 million in 2015). For 25 m antennas, the load is about 256 times lower, costing $2 million in 2015. This new cost equation differs from that of Perley and Clark (2003), which has scaling as D−6. This is because I find that the excellent Fourier plane coverage of the small antenna design does not significantly change the convergence rate of the Clean algorithm, which is already satisfactory in this regime.The National Radio Astronomy Observatory is operated by Associated Universities, Inc., under cooperative agreement with the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

Five common placolith-bearing coccolithophorid algae—Gephyrocapsa oceanica, Coccolithus pelagicus, Calcidiscus leptoporus, Umbilicosphaera sibogae (var. sibogae and var. foliosa), and Emiliania huxleyi—were cultured to investigate controls on Sr partitioning in coccolith calcite. For identical temperature and media composition, Sr partitioning varies by more than 30% in exponential phase cultures of the five species and is linearly related to rates of calcite production/cell (ρ=0.91). Exponential phase culture experiments with three strains of C. leptoporus and six strains of G. oceanica at varying temperatures show variations in Sr partitioning of 20% and 30%, respectively. With C. leptoporus, Sr partitioning is equally correlated with temperature and calcification rate (ρ=0.8), which themselves are highly correlated; the slope of the relationship between DSr and calcification rate is comparable to that observed in all species at constant temperature. However, in G. oceanica, increased temperature appears to enhance Sr incorporation by up to 2% to 1.6% °C−1 in the range of 15 to 30 °C. The strong influence of calcification rate on Sr partitioning may be useful for inferring past variations in coccolithophorid productivity from Sr partitioning in coccolith sediments if the influence of temperature on Sr partitioning can be resolved. Because the relationship between calcite production and Sr partitioning is linear, a proportional change in calcification should be expressed much more strongly in the Sr/Ca ratio of large species with rapid calcite production than in smaller species, which produce calcite more slowly. Consequently, it may be possible to separate temperature and calcification influences on coccolith Sr/Ca by separately analyzing Sr/Ca in species that produce calcite rapidly and those that produce calcite slowly, if both undergo comparable relative changes in calcification rates.  相似文献

I compute the maximum number of observable brown dwarfs for various infrared surveys by combining the maximum possible Oort limit (0.1 missing Mpc–3 with all possible brown dwarf mass and age distributions. This approach shows what limits will be placed on the contribution of brown dwarfs to any possible missing mass if no brown dwarfs are observed. I consider brown dwarfs with masses of 0.01—0.08 M and ages of 109—1010 years.The full range of predicted numbers of brown dwarfs above 6 times the noise of each of the below surveys is: IRAS Point Source Catalog 0.02—6 IRAS Faint Source Catalog |b| > 10° 0.05—16 ISO (2 week 12µm survey) 0.15—80 SIRTF (2 week 12µm survey) 2.50—1600 WIRE (4 month 12µm survey) 21.80—6000 DENIS (half sky) |b| > 10° 0.00—2000 2MASS (full sky) |b| > 10° 0.00—8000A failure to find brown dwarfs in the IRAS FSC would just barely rule out about half of the mass—age range for Oort limit total masses. A failure to find brown dwarfs in 2MASS/DENIS would rule out roughly the same mass—age range, but would set a limit of 0.1—0.01 times the Oort mass in that mass—age region. No limits would be set for the other half of the mass—age range since both IRAS and 2MASS/DENIS have insufficient sensitivity for brown dwarfs with T < 750 K.A failure to find brown dwarfs with ISO would rule out almost all of the mass—age range for Oort limit total masses, but would not set a significantly lower limit to the brown dwarf mass limit. A failure to find brown dwarfs with SIRTF or WIRE would rule out the entire mass—age range for Oort limit total masses and set an upper limit of 0.1—0.001 times the Oort mass.To date, about 18% of the IRAS FSC has been searched down to 6, and no brown dwarfs have been found. This sets a 95% upper limit of 3 in 18% of the sky, or 13 in the entire FSC for |b| > 10°. To begin to set useful limits from 2MASS or DENIS, approximately 400 square degrees needs to be analyzed. To date, only a few square degrees of results from the 2MASS prototype camera have been examined, with no brown dwarfs found so far.  相似文献

Some classic expansions of the elliptic motion — cosmE and sinmE — in powers of the eccentricity are extended to highly eccentric orbits, 0.6627...<e<1. The new expansions are developed in powers of (ee*), wheree* is a fixed value of the eccentricity. The coefficients are given in terms of the derivatives of Bessel functions with respect to the eccentricity. The expansions have the same radius of convergence (e*) of the extended solution of Kepler's equation, previously derived by the author. Some other simple expansions — (a/r), (r/a), (r/a) sinv, ..., — derived straightforward from the expansions ofE, cosE and sinE are also presented.  相似文献

In the IERS Standards (1989), for the Moon the adopted value of the tide Love number, k 2, is equal to 0.0222. In this paper using the latest geodetic parameters of the Moon a group of internal structure models are constructed for this celestial body (see Table V), then the dependence of the Moon's core size on calculated value of k 2 is explored. The obtained results indicate that the second degree Love number, k 2 = 0.02664, of the lunar model 91–04 is near its observed value (0.027 ± 0.006). This implies that the Moon may possess an outer core of 660 km radius and of 300 kbar mean rigidity. With the same method the static Love numbers from degree 2 to 30 are computed for the terrestrial planets — Mercury, Venus, and Mars (see Table VII), and the influence of some parameters (such as the rigidity) of the outer core on low degree Love numbers is discussed. Finally, the likely range of the second degree Love numbers is determined for the terrestrial planets (see Table XI). It seems that if low degree Love numbers of a terrestrial planet can be detected in the future space explorations, there is some possibility to improve the planetary internal structure model. For example, as soon as space techniques yield an observed value of k 2 > 0.10 for Mercury, there will be reason to anticipate that a partly melted iron core exists in this planet.  相似文献

Measurements of the Paschen discontinuity in stars withT eff104K leads to the conclusion that theD P/DB ratio increases with temperature faster than expected. The increase ofD P/DB with (logg)–1 is also steep.

On the basis of empirical (D)-dependency at the frequency of 5 GHz constructed using 15 planetary nebulae with the independently measured distances (10–171×10–20 W m–2 Hz–1 ster–1), we evaluated distances of 335 objects. Independent evidence of the correctness of the accepted scale are given. Then(D)-dependency is constructed and it is shown that atD<0.08 pc the mean electron density is higher than the one determined by the Seaton method. We showed that the filling factor diminishes with the increase of the PN diameter (1 atD0.08 pc and 0.2 atD0.4 pc). the ionized mass of 33 PNs is determined. With the diameter increase the ionized mass grows and atD0.4 pc reaches the valueM0.07M . We used the new distance scale when investigating the space distribution of PNs. The mean scale height =130±15 pc and the mean gradient of the change of surface densitym=0.37, which allowed us to estimate the total number of nebulae in the GalaxyN4×104. We divided the PNs according to their velocities (withV LSR>35 km s–1 andV LSR<35 km s–1) and permitted us to confirm that the PN belong to different sub-systems of the Galaxy. The estimated local formation rate of PNs [=(4.6±2.2)×10–12 pc–3 yr–1] is a little higher than the one of the white dwarfs. That can be explained by a large number of PNs having binary cores, which used in our sample. The statistical estimation of PN expansion velocity showed thatV ex increases from 5–7 km s–1 (atD0.03 pc) to 40–50 km s–1 (atD0.8 pc).  相似文献

This paper gives the results of a programme attempting to exploit ‘la seule bréche’ (Poincaré, 1892, p. 82) of non-integrable systems, namely to develop an approximate general solution for the three out of its four component-solutions of the planar restricted three-body problem. This is accomplished by computing a large number of families of ‘solutions précieuses’ (periodic solutions) covering densely the space of initial conditions of this problem. More specifically, we calculated numerically and only for μ = 0.4, all families of symmetric periodic solutions (1st component of the general solution) existing in the domain D:(x 0 ∊ [−2,2],C ∊ [−2,5]) of the (x 0, C) space and consisting of symmetric solutions re-entering after 1 up to 50 revolutions (see graph in Fig. 4). Then we tested the parts of the domain D that is void of such families and established that they belong to the category of escape motions (2nd component of the general solution). The approximation of the 3rd component (asymmetric solutions) we shall present in a future publication. The 4th component of the general solution of the problem, namely the one consisting of the bounded non-periodic solutions, is considered as approximated by those of the 1st or the 2nd component on account of the `Last Geometric Theorem of Poincaré' (Birkhoff, 1913). The results obtained provoked interest to repeat the same work inside the larger closed domain D:(x 0 ∊ [−6,2], C ∊ [−5,5]) and the results are presented in Fig. 15. A test run of the programme developed led to reproduction of the results presented by Hénon (1965) with better accuracy and many additional families not included in the sited paper. Pointer directions construed from the main body of results led to the definition of useful concepts of the basic family of order n, n = 1, 2,… and the completeness criterion of the solution inside a compact sub-domain of the (x 0, C) space. The same results inspired the ‘partition theorem’, which conjectures the possibility of partitioning an initial conditions domain D into a finite set of sub-domains D i that fulfill the completeness criterion and allow complete approximation of the general solution of this problem by computing a relatively small number of family curves. The numerical results of this project include a large number of families that were computed in detail covering their natural termination, the morphology, and stability of their member solutions. Zooming into sub-domains of D permitted clear presentation of the families of symmetric solutions contained in them. Such zooming was made for various values of the parameter N, which defines the re-entrance revolutions number, which was selected to be from 50 to 500. The areas generating escape solutions have being investigated. In Appendix A we present families of symmetric solutions terminating at asymptotic solutions, and in Appendix B the morphology of large period symmetric solutions though examples of orbits that re-enter after from 8 to 500 revolutions. The paper concludes that approximations of the general solution of the planar restricted problem is possible and presents such approximations, only for some sub-domains that fulfill the completeness criterion, on the basis of sufficiently large number of families.  相似文献

Numerical integration of particle trajectories is performed to evaluate the statistical acceleration coefficients D TT for 1 to 100 MeV protons in a solar wind corotating interaction region (CIR) seen at 2.5 and 5.0 AU. Acceleration is followed in the solar wind reference frame and is due to random wave-particle interactions and to random drift motion in moderate scale field gradients. D TT due to the first effect reaches a peak value of 4 × 10 –7 MeV2 s–1 post shock at 10 MeV at 2.5 AU consistent with estimates based both upon cyclotron resonance and transit time damping theory. D TT from the second effect is less well established but is of the order of 10–7 MeV2 s–1 at 10 MeV, 5 AU. A comparison is made between the time constant for statistical acceleration within this CIR and estimates for diffuse shock acceleration and adiabatic deceleration. All three time constants are of the same order, but deceleration is faster than shock acceleration which in turn is faster than statistical acceleration.  相似文献

It was shown in a previous paper, Smith (1975), that the determination of the structure of rotating polytropes by expansion in the small rotational parameter constitutes asingular perturbation problem as arises also, for example, in large Reynolds' number approximations in fluid dynamics. The technique used by him — the method of matched asymptotic expansions — is, in fact, just an extension of the Prandtl boundary layer theory familiar in this latter context. In this paper — the first of two — we introduce an alternative procedure: the method of strained co-ordinates; and for comparison purposes again consider rotating polytropes. The aim of the present paper will be to detail the procedure outlined in our previous investigations (Kopal, 1975; Kopalet al., 1976) for a solution of the elements of distorted eclipsing systems by a Fourier analysis of their light changes. This procedure—which constitutes an equivalent, in the frequency-domain, of rectification hitherto practised in the time-domain — should enable us to free the observed momentsA 2m of the light curves from all photometric effects of distortion (between minima as well as within eclipses) — a feat impossible in the time-domain except under very restricted conditions — and thus to make it possible to obtain the geometrical elements of the eclipses which should be free from any obvious source of systematic errors.  相似文献

IUE ultraviolet spectral recording for a low excitating planetary nebula NGC 6369 is obtained. The very strong doublet 2800 Mgii in emission as well as not less strong absorption line 2852 Mgi are discovered in the spectrum of this nebula. It is shown that the resonance line 2852 Mgi may originate only in a neutral envelope, around the nebula, consisting of neutral hydrogen, neutral magnesium, and dust particles (Hi+Mgi). The importance of this absorption line as a powerful indicator of the discovery of neutral envelopes around the planetary nebulae is outlined.The possibility of the existence of one more envelope—transition zone—immediately contacting with the bright that is ionized part of nebula (Hii+Mgii) is also shown. The transition zone consists of neutral hydrogen, ionized magnesium, and dust particles (Hi+Mgii), main parameters of this zone are also obtained (Table IV).The temperature of the central star of this nebula is obtained for the first time:T *=48000 K. Continuous background in the interval 2600–3000 Å is identified with Balmer continuum with electron temperatureT e =12500 K.  相似文献
