It is shown that during contact eclipsing binaries evolution under the influence of stellar wind, magnetic stellar wind and with matter transfer by gas flow, in binary stellar systems there may take place a process of star merger (low mass stars) within 105–107 yr and a fast increase of distance between stars of massive binaries. W UMa-type stars are a finite evolutionary stage of very close and low mass binary pairs. As for contact systems of early spectral types (CE-systems), they are more varied in evolution.  相似文献

A new evaluation of chemical evolution coefficients has been made using recent stellar evolution and nucleosynthesis data. The role of the low and intermediate mass stars in galactic nucleosynthesis has been emphasized. A significant amount of4He,12C and neutron-rich species is found to be contributed by these stars. Comparison with observed abundances suggests a primary origin of14N. The simple model of galactic evolution with the new coefficients has been used to derive the ratio of helium to heavy element enrichment in the Galaxy. The new stellar evolution data do not explain the large value of this ratio that has been determined observationally.  相似文献

We review the flaring activity of stars across the HR-diagram. Brightenings have been reported along the entire Main Sequence and in many stars off the Main Sequence. Some stars are decidedly young, others are in advanced stages of stellar evolution. Flares are common on stars with outer convection zones and outbursts have been reported also on other types of stars, although confirmations are needed for some of them.Analyses of flare occurrence sometimes find flares to be randomly distributed in time, and sometimes indicate a tendency for flares to come in groups. Preferred active longitudes have been suggested. Recent solar results, where the occurrence rate for flares is found to exhibit a periodicity of 152 days, suggest that stellar flare data should be reanalyzed over long time baselines to see if the present confusing situation can be resolved. The radiation from stellar flares is dominated by continuum emission and about equal amounts of energy have been recorded in the optical, UV, and X-ray regions of the spectrum. In solar flares strong continuum emission is rarely recorded and a large collection of bright emission lines takes prominence. Small flares occur more frequently than large ones and the latter have longer time-scales. Flare energies can exceed 1037 erg. The most productive flare stars are those where the convective envelopes occupy large volumes. Slow stellar rotation rates are believed to reduce the level when the star has been braked significantly from its young rotation rate.  相似文献

The differential velocity field in cool stars can be measured effectively on photographic plates by the use of a PDS micro-densitometer, from which it is shown that radial velocity gradients are larger for stars with larger turbulent velocities, which are determined from the high resolution echellograms. This indicates that the stellar turbulence may have something to do with the differential velocity field in stellar atmospheres. As an observational probe of the mixing processes in red giant stars, stellar abundances that are sensitive to mixing are determined on the basis of high resolution Fourier Transform spectroscopy. For example, the12C/13C ratio has now been determined for large number of red giant stars and shows characteristic changes through the first red giant branch to the asymptotic giant branch, including both the pre-thermal pulsing and the thermal pulsing phases. This information, together with additional information on the16O/17O ratio and on CNO abundances, provides useful constraints on the theory of mixing in red giant stars.Paper presented at the IAU Third Asian-Pacific Regional Meeting, held in Kyoto, Japan, between 30 September-6 October, 1984.  相似文献

The PPM catalogue contains the most complete and accurate information concerning positions, proper motions and some astrophysical data for practically all stars (about 379000) down to 10m-11m over the whole sky. The systems and rms errors of the PPm positions, proper motions, stellar magnitudes and spectral classification are studied by comparison with catalogues of stellar characteristics and on the basis of the PPM data itself. The residual errors of stellar data in the PPM catalogue are small and/or they can be determined and eliminated.  相似文献

In this work, we select spectra of stars with high signal-to-noise ratio from LAMOST data and map their MK classes to the spectral features. The equivalent widths of prominent spectral lines, which play a similar role as multi-color photometry, form a clean stellar locus well ordered by MK classes. The advantage of the stellar locus in line indices is that it gives a natural and continuous classification of stars consistent with either broadly used MK classes or stellar astrophysical parameters. We also employ an SVM-based classification algorithm to assign MK classes to LAMOST stellar spectra. We find that the completenesses of the classifications are up to 90% for A and G type stars, but they are down to about 50% for OB and K type stars. About 40% of the OB and K type stars are mis-classified as A and G type stars, respectively. This is likely due to the difference in the spectral features between late B type and early A type stars or between late G and early K type stars being very weak. The relatively poor performance of the automatic MK classification with SVM suggests that the direct use of line indices to classify stars is likely a more preferable choice.  相似文献

We present a homogeneous set of stellar atmospheric parameters ( T eff, log  g , [Fe/H]) for a sample of about 700 field and cluster stars which constitute a new stellar library in the near-IR developed for stellar population synthesis in this spectral region ( λ 8350–9020) . Having compiled the available atmospheric data in the literature for field stars, we have found systematic deviations between the atmospheric parameters from different bibliographic references. The Soubiran, Katz & Cayrel sample of stars with very well determined fundamental parameters has been taken as our standard reference system, and other papers have been calibrated and bootstrapped against it. The obtained transformations are provided in this paper. Once most of the data sets were on the same system, final parameters were derived by performing error weighted means. Atmospheric parameters for cluster stars have also been revised and updated according to recent metallicity scales and colour–temperature relations.  相似文献

The mean density of the UV Cet-type flare stars in the solar neighbourhood is estimated. If differences of activity levels on different flare stars are taken into account, their summary flare activity is equivalent to 0.03 YZ CMi's flare activity per cubic parsec or to 4×1026 erg s–1 pc–3 in U-passband. From the X-ray flare observation on YZ CMi of 19.10.74 we estimate the luminosity of stellar flares in soft and intermediate X-ray. The ratio of X-ray to optical radiation for stellar flares is close to the respective ratio for strong solar chromospheric flares. It is shown the set of red-dwarf flare stars has all essential features of an ensemble of discrete X-ray sources to represent the galactic diffuse X-ray background.  相似文献

We study the effect of systematic variations in stellar parallaxes over the celestial sphere on the results of a kinematic analysis of stellar proper motions. Our approach is based on the representation of stellar parallaxes by scalar spherical harmonics and on the decomposition of stellar proper motions into a system of vector spherical harmonics. We derive theoretical relations that relate the coefficients of the decomposition of stellar proper motions into toroidal and spheroidal harmonics to the coefficients of the decomposition of stellar parallaxes into scalar spherical harmonics. We have established that the systematic variations of parallaxes over the celestial sphere distort all parameters of the linear Ogorodnikov-Milne model and can be responsible for the appearance of beyond-the-model harmonics. We have performed a kinematic analysis of the proper motions of blue-white and red giants based on Hipparcos data. The parallaxes of blue-white giants show a strong dependence on Galactic latitude (with predominant contraction along the Galactic equator). In contrast, the deviations of the parallaxes from the mean for red giants are localized only in two regions of the celestial sphere. For these samples, the effect of parallax variations over the celestial sphere on kinematic parameters has turned out to be comparable to their rms errors. The global solutions performed using both samples have revealed strong beyond-the-model kinematic effects described by second-order toroidal harmonics and third-order spheroidal harmonics. Using the solutions performed separately in the northern and southern Galactic hemispheres, we have established that not the systematic variations of parallaxes over the celestial sphere but the retardation of Galactic rotation with increasing distance of stars from the principal Galactic plane is mainly responsible for the appearance of these harmonics. Based on these samples of stars, we have estimated the magnitude of the vertical Galactic rotation velocity gradient to be 18.0±2.9 and 22.7±2.2 km s?1 kpc?1, respectively.  相似文献

Measuring solar-like oscillations in an ensemble of stars in a cluster, holds promise for testing stellar structure and evolution more stringently than just fitting parameters to single field stars. The most-ambitious attempt to pursue these prospects was by Gilliland et al. who targeted 11 turn-off stars in the open cluster M67 (NGC 2682), but the oscillation amplitudes were too small (<20 μmag) to obtain unambiguous detections. Like Gilliland et al. we also aim at detecting solar-like oscillations in M67, but we target red giant stars with expected amplitudes in the range 50–  500 μmag  and periods of 1 to 8 h. We analyse our recently published photometry measurements, obtained during a six-week multisite campaign using nine telescopes around the world. The observations are compared with simulations and with estimated properties of the stellar oscillations. Noise levels in the Fourier spectra as low as  27 μmag  are obtained for single sites, while the combined data reach  19 μmag  , making this the best photometric time series of an ensemble of red giant stars. These data enable us to make the first test of the scaling relations (used to estimate frequency and amplitude) with an homogeneous ensemble of stars. The detected excess power is consistent with the expected signal from stellar oscillations, both in terms of its frequency range and amplitude. However, our results are limited by apparent high levels of non-white noise, which cannot be clearly separated from the stellar signal.  相似文献

Pre-Main-Sequence stars with masses between 2 and 5 M (Herbig Ae/Be stars) have radiative subphotospheric envelopes. However, they possess strong stellar winds and show definite signs of activity which could be linked to surface magnetic field. Therefore, they must lose angular momentum at a significant rate.We investigate the effect of such angular momentum losses on the internal structure of these stars, and on the distribution of angular velocity inside them. This paper presents a preliminary analysis guided by an analogy with laboratory and geophysical fluids. We propose that the friction exerted at the stellar surface by the angular momentum losses produces a mixed layer below the surface, separated from the unperturbed interior by an interface. Using scaling laws established by experimental studies of sheared stratified fluids, we discuss a simplified model for the evolution of the mixed layer.Although this model is still too preliminary to allow quantitative predictions, we show that for a reasonable choice of parameters, the mixed layer penetrates into the stellar interior on a time-scale of 106 years, comparable to the Kelvin time-scale for the Herbig Ae/Be stars.  相似文献

Based on archival Hubble Space Telescope ACS/WFC images, we have performed stellar photometry for the young tidal dwarf galaxy Ho IX. We have determined that star formation in Ho IX began 110 Myr ago and ended 20 Myr ago. We have identified 20 young star clusters in the galaxy with ages from 25 to 100 Myr. For the main star-forming region of Ho IX along one direction, we have determined the change in the number density of stars with three ages: 30, 50, and 90 Myr. A relation has been found between the ages of stars and the spatial sizes of the subsystem formed by them. This relation can be explained by expansion of the stellar subsystems. Under this assumption, the expansion velocity is 9.8 km s?1 as the age changes from 50 to 90 Myr. Edge-on low-mass late-type galaxies have similar relations between the ages and sizes of their stellar subsystems.  相似文献

We present a method of determining lower limits on the masses of pre-main-sequence (PMS) stars and so constraining the PMS evolutionary tracks. This method uses the redshifted absorption feature observed in some emission-line profiles of T Tauri stars, indicative of infall. The maximum velocity of the accreting material measures the potential energy at the stellar surface, which, combined with an observational determination of the stellar radius, yields the stellar mass. This estimate is a lower limit owing to uncertainties in the geometry and projection effects. Using available data, we show that the computed lower limits can be larger than the masses derived from PMS evolutionary tracks for M   0.5 M. Our analysis also supports the notion that accretion streams do not impact near the stellar poles but probably hit the stellar surface at moderate latitudes.  相似文献

Based on the spectral observations of the LAMOST (DR2) survey, the radii, masses, and luminosities of 700 481 stars were estimated. These stars belong to spectral types A, F, G, and K, and have metallicities between ?0.845 and 0.0. To determine the properties of the stars, we used up-to-date models of the stellar interior structure, computed with account for the stellar evolution rate and the initial mass function. The use of evolutionary estimates for two types of stars—with and without rotation—allowed us to account for the uncertainty associated with the lack of data on the rotation velocity of the stars under consideration. The obtained stellar radii, together with the photometric estimates of interstellar extinction and angular diameters can be used to study the dependence of interstellar extinction on distance as well as to estimate the stellar distances.  相似文献

Using observational data, we consider the problem of instability of astronomical objects and systems of objects and its close connection with the star-formation process. We show that it is only due to the discovery and study of stellar associations that the enormous role of stellar instability in the formation of stars in the Galaxy (and in other galaxies) has been definitively explained. Many kinematic properties of stellar associations are inexplicable from the old point of view. This gives grounds for doubting the correctness of the classical hypothesis that stars form from diffuse matter.Translated fromAstrofizika, Vol. 38, No. 3, 1995.  相似文献

We consider the problem of dust grain survival in the disk winds from T Tauri and Herbig Ae stars. For our analysis, we have chosen a disk wind model in which the gas component of the wind is heated through ambipolar diffusion to a temperature of ~104 K. We show that the heating of dust grains through their collisions with gas atoms is inefficient compared to their heating by stellar radiation and, hence, the grains survive even in the hot wind component. As a result, the disk wind can be opaque to the ultraviolet and optical stellar radiation and is capable of absorbing an appreciable fraction of it. Calculations show that the fraction of the wind-absorbed radiation for T Tauri stars can be from 20 to 40% of the total stellar luminosity at an accretion rate ? a = 10?8-10?6 M yr?1. This means that the disk winds from T Tauri stars can play the same role as the puffed-up inner rim in current accretion disk models. In Herbig Ae stars, the inner layers of the disk wind (r ≤ 0.5 AU) are dust-free, since the dust in this region sublimates under the effect of stellar radiation. Therefore, the fraction of the radiation absorbed by the disk wind in this case is considerably smaller and can be comparable to the effect from the puffed-up inner rim only at an accretion rate of the order of or higher than 10?6 M yr?1. Since the disk wind is structurally inhomogeneous, its optical depth toward the observer can be variable, which should be reflected in the photometric activity of young stars. For the same reason, moving shadows from gas and dust streams with a spiral-like shape can be observed in high-angular-resolution circumstellar disk images.  相似文献

This paper calculates the stellar–substellar initial mass function (IMF) based on data from low-luminosity stars and substars. We find the mass spectrum for the stars and substars less than 10 million years in age, and we estimate the low-mass part of the stellar–substellar IMF for 10 million years ago.  相似文献

Abstract— We have measured the titanium isotopic compositions of 23 silicon carbide grains from the Orgueil (CI) carbonaceous chondrites for which isotopic compositions of silicon, carbon, and nitrogen and aluminum‐magnesium systematics had been measured previously. Using the 16 most‐precise measurements, we estimate the relative contributions of stellar nucleosynthesis during the asymptotic giant branch (AGB) phase and the initial compositions of the parent stars to the compositions of the grains. To do this, we compare our data to the results of several published stellar models that employ different values for some important parameters. Our analysis confirms that s‐process synthesis during the AGB phase only slightly modified the titanium compositions in the envelopes of the stars where mainstream silicon carbide grains formed, as it did for silicon. Our analysis suggests that the parent stars of the >1 μm silicon carbide grains that we measured were generally somewhat more massive than the Sun (2–3 M) and had metallicities similar to or slightly higher than solar. Here we differ slightly from results of previous studies, which indicated masses at the lower end of the range 1.5–3 M and metallicities near solar. We also conclude that models using a standard 13C pocket, which produces a good match for the main component of s‐process elements in the solar system, overestimate the contribution of the 13C pocket to s‐process nucleosynthesis of titanium found in silicon carbide grains. Although previous studies have suggested that the solar system has a significantly different titanium isotopic composition than the parent stars of silicon carbide grains, we find no compelling evidence that the Sun falls off of the array defined by those stars. We also conclude that the Sun does lie on the low‐metallicity end of the silicon and titanium arrays defined by mainstream silicon carbide grains.  相似文献

Observations with a matrix photometer are reported. The stellar magnitudes in the BVRcIc bands are estimated for 80 comparison stars in the neighborhoods of 10 galaxies with active nuclei: 2 Seyfert galaxies, 4 quasars, and 4 BL Lac objects. The stellar magnitudes of the observed stars range from 11 to 19m.5. For stars with magnitudes of 14–15m the typical photometric errors are 0m.011, 0m.008, 0m.006, and 0m.007 in the B, V, R, and I bands, respectively. The BVRI magnitudes for most of these stars were not known previously. 14′ × 14′ finding charts for these stars are included. These results can be used for differential BVRI photometry of active galactic nuclei. __________ Translated from Astrofizika, Vol. 50, No. 1, pp. 57–72 (February 2007).  相似文献
