Sediment components and their fluxes of Cores MD12-3428(water depth: 903 m), MD12-3433(water depth: 2125 m),and MD12-3434(water depth: 2995 m), obtained along a transect on the continental slope of the northern South China Sea, have been conducted to reveal the spatiotemporal variations and the controlling factors of the sediment components and of their fluxes.Results show that deep-sea sediments in the northern South China Sea are composed mainly of terrigenous(59–89%) and carbonate(6–38%) particles, with minor components of opal(1.6–9.4%) and organic matter(0.7–1.9%). Fluxes of terrigenous and carbonate particles reach up to 2.4–21.8 and 0.4–6.5 g cm–2 kyr–1, respectively, values that are one to two orders of magnitude higher than the fluxes of opal and organic matter. Temporal variations of the percentages and fluxes of deep-sea sediment components have displayed clear glacial-interglacial cyclicity since the last glaciation. Terrigenous, opal, and organic matter percentages and their fluxes increas clearly during marine isotope stage 2, while carbonate percentages and fluxes show an opposite variation pattern or are characterized by an unremarkable increase. This implies that deep-sea carbonate in the South China Sea is affected by the dilution of terrigenous inputs during the sea-level lowstand. With increasing water depth along the transect, the terrigenous percentage increases but with largely decreased fluxes. Both the percentage and flux of carbonate decrease, while the percentages and fluxes of opal and organic matter display much more complicated variational features. The spatiotemporal variations of deep-sea sediment components and of their fluxes since the last glaciation in the northern South China Sea are strongly controlled by sea-level fluctuations. Simultaneously, terrigenous supply associated with monsoonal rainfall, marine primary productivity,and the dilution effect between terrigenous and biogenic particles, also play interconnected roles in the sediment accumulation processes.  相似文献

Paleoearthquakes in the Yanqing-Huailai basin and on the Haiyuan fault are studied in detail.The result indicates that the recurrence behavior of large earthquakes is of a wide variety.Characteristic earthquakes show the behavior characteristics of the activity of most faults,butthey are of different grades,the recurrence interval of large earthquakes is of staged nature,and the interaction between faults has effects on the recurrence sequence of large earthquakes.Thus,when the recurrence behavior of large earthquakes is staged in time or when thegradation of characteristic earthquakes has led to a sharp difference in recurrence intervalbetween paleoearthquakes of different intensities,for estimating the large earthquake risk bythe deterministic method and time-dependent probabilistic method,it is necessary to calculatethe recurrence interval value separately for each specific stage or grade in order that theaverage recurrence interval values of different stages can be determined.  相似文献

In this paper,the focal mechanisms of the fore-main-after shocks of the 1989 Datong-Yanggao earthquake are determined by fitting Pnl and SH waveforms,and the earthquake processes and seismotectonics are inferred.The results show that the fore-main-after shocks occurred on a composite fault plane,The fault motion at the shallow part is right-lateral strike-slip with mechanisms:strike 201,dip 75,rake 191; at the deeper part,the fault movement is strike 201,dip 58,rake 222.The epicentral area is subject to a ENE-WSW horizontal compression and a NNW-SSE extension which is consistent with the tectonic stress orientation of North China.The P-axis at greater depth has an azimuth of 54.5 and a plunge of 51.The relatively large P-axis plunge in depth corresponds with the great depressive deformation in this area.In addition,the similarities and differences between the Datong-Yanggao earthquakes and general graben-associated earthquakes are discusses.  相似文献

Comprehensive records are available in ENA data of ring current activity recorded by the NUADU instrument aboard TC-2 on 15 May, 2005 during a major magnetic storm(which incorporated a series of substorms). Ion fluxes at 4-min temporal resolution derived from ENA data in the energy ranges 50–81 and 81–158 ke V are compared with in situ particle fluxes measured by the LANL-SOPA instruments aboard LANL-01, LANL-02, LANL-97, and LANL-84(a series of geostationary satellites that encircle the equatorial plane at ~6.6 R_E). Also, magnetic fields measured simultaneously by the magetometers aboard GOES-10 and GOES-12(which are also geostationary satellites) are compared with the particle data. It is demonstrated that ion fluxes in the ring current were enhanced during geomagnetic field tailward stretching in the growth phases of substorms rather than after Earthward directed dipolarization events. This observation, which challenges the existing concept that ring current particles are injected Earthward from the magnetotail following dipolarization events, requires further investigation using a large number of magnetic storm events.  相似文献

The southern Jiangxi Province(SJP) and northern Jiangxi-southern Anhui provinces(NJSAP) are the two most important tungsten metallogenic districts in South China. The SJP district is a well-known tungsten producer in South China where distributes several ore concentrated areas such as the "Chongyi-Dayu-Shangyou", "Yudu" and "Longnan-Quanan-Dingnan"areas, with many large and super large tungsten deposits including the famous Xihuashan, Piaotang, Pangushan and Dajishan deposits. In recent years, major prospecting breakthrough for W-polymetallic resources has been made in the NJSAP district.Several large and super large W-Cu(Mo) deposits, such as the Dahutang, Zhuxi, Dongyuan and Baizhangyan deposits, are discovered. These deposits are all genetically associated with the Yanshanian(Mesozoic) granitic magmatism. In this study, a systematic comparison of the temporal and spatial distribution, petrology, geochronology, and geochemical characteristics of the tungsten-bearing granites between the SJP and NJSAP districts has been made, with an aim to improving the understanding of the petrogenesis of the granites and associated metal enrichment mechanisms in the two tungsten ore districts in South China. The following conclusions can be drawn:(1) The ages of the tungsten-bearing granites and associated mineralization are different in the two districts, in the SJP district the ages are mainly concentrated in 165–150 Ma, whereas in the NJSAP district it displays two age periods, one is 150–140 Ma(Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous), and the other is 135–120 Ma(Early Cretaceous).(2) The tungsten-bearing granites from both the NJSAP and SJP districts are highly fractionated granitic rocks, but the SJP granites have experienced higher degree of fractional crystallization and more extensive fluid metasomatism than the NJSAP granites.(3) The petrogeneses of the tungsten-bearing granites from the two districts are different, those from the NJSAP district originated from partial melting of less mature sandstone-mudstone intercalated with meta-volcanic rocks of the Neoproterozoic Shuangqiaoshan Group which are both W and Cu enriched, in contrast those from the SJP district were likely derived from the highly mature,clay-rich mudstones of the Mesoproterozoic age which are only W enriched. In summary, the different source rocks with different metal enrichment features and different magmatic evolution and fractional degrees for the granites in the two districts might be the key factors that controlled the different matallogenic characteristics of tungsten ore deposits in the two districts in South China.  相似文献

This paper presents a new correction method, "instant correction method(ICM)", to improve the accuracy of numerical prediction products(NPP) and provide weather variables at grid cells. The ICM makes use of the continuity in time of the forecast errors at different forecast times to improve the accuracy of large scale NPP. To apply the ICM in China, an ensemble correction scheme is designed to correct the T213 NPP(the most popular NPP in China) through different statistical methods. The corrected T213 NPP(ICM T213 NPP) are evaluated by four popular indices: Correlation coefficient, climate anomalies correlation coefficient, root-mean-square-errors(RMSE), and confidence intervals(CI). The results show that the ICM T213 NPP are more accurate than the original T213 NPP in both the training period(2003–2008) and the validation period(2009–2010). Applications in China over the past three years indicate that the ICM is simple, fast, and reliable. Because of its low computing cost, end users in need of more accurate short-range weather forecasts around China can benefit greatly from the method.  相似文献

The fishbone model is a simplified numerical model for moment-resisting frames that is capable of modelling the effects of column-beam strength and stiffness ratios. The applicability of the fishbone model in simulating the seismic responses of reinforced concrete moment-resisting frames of different sets of column-beam strength and stiffness ratios are evaluated through nonlinear static, dynamic and incremental dynamic analysis on six prototype buildings of 4-, 8-and 12-stories. The results show that the fishbone model is practically accurate enough for reinforced concrete frames, although the assumption of equal joint rotation does not hold in all cases. In addition to the ground motion characteristics and the number of stories in the structures, the accuracy of the model also varies with the column-beam stiffness and strength ratios. The model performs better for strong column-weak beam frames, in which the lateral drift patterns are better controlled by the continuous stiffness provided by the strong columns. When the inelastic deformation is large, the accuracy of the model may be subjected to large record-to-record variability. This is especially the case for frames of weak columns.  相似文献

The northeastern part of the Tibetan Plateau is a region where different tectonic blocks collide and intersect, and large earthquakes are frequent. In the past century, great progress has been made worldwide in our understanding of forest-water relationship. The successful forestation programs implemented in China-which have improved the ecological environmental conditions-have gained the attention of many researchers and highlighted the relationship between forestation and water yields. The arid and semi-arid Loess Plateau has received attention from water engineers and eco-hydrological researchers in China because of a shortage in water resources. We selected one of the oldest stations conducting soil and water conservation experiments, the Xifeng soil and water conservation station, and chose the Nanxiaohe catchment and its paired catchments (Yangjiagou catchment and Dongzhuanggou catchment) as our research areas. Trends in precipitation, air temperature, streamflow over the past 50 years, and the effect of changing land use on streamflow were analyzed. The Mann-Kendall test showed that precipitation had a negative trend (downward trend), whereas air temperature showed a positive trend (upward trend) from the past to present in the Nanxiaohe catchment. However, the trends seen in precipitation, air temperature did not contain any "jumping points." The paired catchment approach is used to detect the effects of land cover change on hydrology in the Yangjiagou and the contrast catchment, i.e., Dongzhuanggou catchment in our study. The results showed a large change in land use in the Yangjiagou catchment from 1954 to 2008. An increase in forested land (from 0% to 40.08% from 1954 to 2008) and a reduction of bare land (from 51.26% to 5.50% from 1954 to 2008) accounted for a large part of the change in land use. However, the land use changed little in the contrast catchment. The comparison of streamfiow in the paired catchments showed that forestation reduced streamflow by 49.63% (or 6.5 mm) each year.  相似文献

Two marine sediment cores from offshore mid-western Taiwan were subsampled and pre-treated using a sequential extraction procedure to separate carbonate and reducible fractions. Aliquots of these extracts were analyzed to determine their chemical composition to evaluate the geochemical processes responsible for heavy metal distribution and accumulation in the coastal environment. Our data demonstrate that sedimentation rates derived from excess 210Pb associated with metal fluxes show large increases circa A.D. 1990. A well-synchronized increase in metal flux in both geochemical fractions was found and validated by Pearson’s correlation. Principal component analysis revealed the heavy metal fluxes to be highly correlated with the sediment deposition rate, with metal contamination potentially driven by a sole contributor. This study emphasizes the changes in sedimentation rate is potentially caused by activities associated with the inland economic development during this time, rather than by raising heavy metal pollution dominated the accumulation offshore mid-western Taiwan.  相似文献

Measurements of turbulent fluctuations of velocity, salinity, and suspended particulate matter (SPM) are presented. The data show persistent countergradient buoyancy fluxes. These countergradient fluxes are controlled by the ratio of vertical turbulent kinetic energy (VKE) and available potential energy (APE) terms in the buoyancy flux equation. The onset of countergradient fluxes is found to approximately coincide with larger APE than VKE. It is shown here that the ratio of VKE to APE can be written as the square of a vertical Froude number. This number signifies the onset of the dynamical significance of buoyancy in the transport of mass. That is when motions driven by buoyancy begin to actively determine the vertical turbulent transport of mass. Spectral and quadrant analyses show that the occurrence of countergradient fluxes coincides with a change in the relative importance of turbulent energetic structures and buoyancy-driven motions in the transport of mass. Furthermore, these analyses show that with increasing salinity-induced Richardson number (Ri), countergradient contributions expand to the larger scales of motions and the relative importance of outward and inward interactions increases. At the smaller scales, at moderate Ri, the countergradient buoyancy fluxes are physically associated with an asymmetry in transport of fluid parcels by energetic turbulent motions. At the large scales, at large Ri, the countergradient buoyancy fluxes are physically associated with convective motions induced by buoyancy of incompletely dispersed fluid parcels which have been transported by energetic motions in the past. Moreover, these convective motions induce restratification and enhanced settling of SPM. The latter is generally the result of salinity-induced convective motions, but SPM-induced buoyancy is also found to play a role.  相似文献

Concentrations and calculated fluxes of trace metals into Bermuda nearshore marine and lake sediments are presented. In areas affected by anthropogenic activity, metal profiles show surface sediment enrichments similar to those observed in North American and European lacustrine and estuarine sediments. Atmospheric fluxes of Cu, Zn and Pb into the lake sediments are higher than those of rural areas in North America. These high fluxes are assumed to be due to jet-fuel combustion. Sediment profiles in the Hamilton City area indicate increased anthropogenic input of Cu and Pb compared to other marine locations.  相似文献

Measurements of dissolved Cd, Co, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn have been made on a seasonal basis at five stations on a north–south transect across the central English Channel between Cherbourg and the Isle of Wight. Vertical and horizontal distributions of dissolved Cd, Pb, Cu and Zn are relatively uniform except for sampling sites near the English coast. Dissolved Mn and Co show increased concentrations in the English coastal waters, and for Mn the seasonal trend in concentration follows the pattern seen in the Strait of Dover with higher values in the late summer. Ni and Cu are higher in concentration on the English side, which reflects mainly riverine sources. Measurements were also made of particulate forms of the metals above plus particulate Al, Ca, Fe, Mg, Sr and Ti. Water column concentrations of particulate metals broadly follow the distribution of suspended particulate matter, with highest concentrations near the UK coast. Trace metal concentrations have been integrated with modelled data on fluxes of water to provide estimates of fluxes for these elements into the eastern Channel, and an initial comparison is made with data for fluxes of metals through the Strait of Dover obtained during an earlier study. A major influence on the fluxes of particulate metals through the Isle of Wight-Cherbourg transect is the gyre system to the South east to the Isle of Wight, which has important east to west as well as west to east transport components. For those elements where the dissolved form of the metal dominates, the large flow of water in the central Channel waters leads to major fluxes of the metals towards the east and the Strait of Dover. However, the high suspended particulate matter loadings in the coastal waters and impact of the gyre system lead to net east to west fluxes of particulate Al, Fe, Mn and Ti. Comparison of these fluxes with data on the net west to east transport of these materials through the Strait of Dover infers that there must be a significant supply of these particulate metals to the eastern Channel.  相似文献

In this paper we report energetic ion behavior and its composition variations observed by the Cluster/RAPID instrument when the spacecraft was travelling in the high latitude magnetospheric boundary region on the day of the 31 March, 2001, strongest magnetic storm in the past 50 years. The Dst index reached −360 nT at about 09:00 UT. During its early recovery phase, large amounts of oxygen and helium ions were observed; the ratio of oxygen to hydrogen in the RAPID energy range reached as high as 250%, which suggests that the observed energetic particles might be of magnetospheric origin. The observations further show that enhanced energetic electron fluxes are confined in a very narrow region, while protons have occupied a larger region, and heavy ions have been observed in an even larger region. The flux of energetic electrons show a slight enhancement in a region where the magnetic field magnitude is around zero. These observed energetic ions could be quasi-trapped by the current sheet in the stagnation region of the cusp.  相似文献

The potential for using fallout (unsupported) Pb-210 (210Pb) measurements to estimate rates of overbank sediment deposition on the floodplains of lowland rivers is explored. A model which distinguishes the contribution from direct atmospheric fallout and the catchment-derived input associated with the deposition of suspended sediment has been developed to interpret the fallout Pb-210 inventories at floodplain sampling sites and to estimate average sediment accumulation rates over the past 100 years. The approach has been successfully used to estimate rates of overbank sedimentation on the floodplains of the Rivers Culm and Exe in Devon, U.K. A detailed investigation of the pattern of longer-term sedimentation rates within a small reach of the floodplain of the River Culm indicated a range of deposition rates between 0.07 and 0.59 g cm−2 a−1, which was in close agreement with estimates of current sedimentation rates obtained using sedimentation traps.  相似文献

Sediments are very important as trace metal ‘sinks’ in coastal areas. In this paper we present data on the concentrations and calculated fluxes of the trace metals, Fe, Mn, Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd and Ag at nearshore sites in Long Island Sound. In both areas a percentage of the metal accumulation can be ascribed to local human activities with the highest anthropogenic metal fluxes occurring closest to their source.  相似文献

High time and space resolution optical and radar measurements have revealed the influence of electric fields on E-region electron density profiles in small-scale auroral structures. Large electric fields are present adjacent to auroral filaments produced by monoenergetic electron fluxes. The ionisation profiles measured within and beside the auroral filaments show the effects of plasma convection due to electric fields as well as the consequences of the response time to large and dynamic fluxes of energetic electrons. Without high-resolution optical measurements, the interpretation of the radar data is limited.  相似文献

Freshwater reservoirs are essential owing because of their ecological, economic, and social importance. They are particularly vulnerable to contamination, as of metal and metalloids, derived from anthropogenic activities like mining. The temporal variations in trace element concentrations (arsenic (As), mercury (Hg), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), lead (Pb), and zinc (Zn)), enrichment, fluxes, and possible sources were evaluated by studying two sediment cores from the La Angostura (ANG) Reservoir (northwest Mexico), using 210Pb geochronology. The enrichment factors showed from null to minor enrichment for most elements, but moderate to severe enrichment of mercury (Hg). Most trace element concentrations had a detrital origin, and notable Hg concentration increases since the past decade were associated with severe drought periods, likely resulting from wildfires. The observed sediment concentrations of As and Hg can cause adverse effects on biota in the ecosystem since they are above the probable effect level (PEL). Development of strategies for metal attenuation in this reservoir is recommended and metals should be controlled until specific ecotoxicological studies are performed.  相似文献

A Lagrangian technique is developed and applied to calculate stratosphere-troposphere exchange in an extratropical cyclone. This exchange is computed from the potential vorticity or PV along trajectories, calculated from ECMWF circulation data. Special emphasis is put on the statistical significance of the results. The computed field of the cross-tropopause flux is dominated by elongated patterns of statistically significant large downward and small upward fluxes. The downward fluxes mainly occur in the lower part of the considered tropopause folds. The upward fluxes are found near the entrance of the folds, in the tropopause ridges. The ratio between the area averaged downward and upward cross-tropopause fluxes increases with increasing strength of the cyclone. Since the largest fluxes are shown to occur in the regions with the largest wind shear, where PV-mixing is thought to cause large cross-tropopause fluxes, the results are expected to be reliable, at least in a qualitative sense. The position of a tropopause fold along the northwest coast of Africa is confirmed by total ozone observations. The results indicate that the applied Lagrangian technique is an appropriate tool for diagnosing stratosphere-troposphere exchange.  相似文献
