The complex micro-interfacial interaction theories of heavy metal ions such as Pb(Ⅱ)and Cd(Ⅱ)adsorption on fine sediment in aqueous solution were not systematically investigated. The aim of this work was to reflect the micro-interfacial adsorption characteristics.Sediment samples were collected from an estuary. The Isothermal and kinetics adsorption experiment were done to acquire the data.Isothermal, kinetics, film diffusion and intraparticle diffusion models were adopted to fit the adsorption experimental data. The results indicated that the Langmuir,Freundlich and Temkin models were suitable for analyzing the isothermal experimental data. The maximum adsorption capacities of Pb(Ⅱ)and Cd(Ⅱ)on the sediment were 1.1377 and 0.9821 mg·g-1,respectively.The qm and KL of the Langmuir model,Kf and nF of the Freundlich model, and b and A of the Temkin model all exhibited a power function relationship with the initial adsorbate concentration. The pseudo-second-order model provided a better fit for the experimental kinetics data compared with the fit of the pseudo-first-order and Elovich models. The pseudo-second-order parameters k2 and qe of Pb(Ⅱ)and qe of Cd(Ⅱ)both had a power function relationship with adsorption time, additionally, the k2 of Cd(Ⅱ)had an exponential function relationship with adsorption time. The liquid-film diffusion parameters kfd of Pb(Ⅱ)and Cd(Ⅱ)were 0.0569 and 0.1806 min1,respectively.The intraparticle diffusion parameter kid values of Pb(Ⅱ)and Cd(Ⅱ)were 0.0055 mg$g1$min1/2 and 0.0049 mg$g1$min1/2,respectively.The physical significance of the model parameters showed that Pb(Ⅱ)adsorption on sediment was stronger than Cd(Ⅱ).The results of this study provided a theoretical reference for the micro-interfacial mechanism of heavy metal ion adsorption on sediment.  相似文献

Adsorption behaviors of acetaminophen onto sediment in the Weihe River were described. The impact factors in the processes of adsorption, such as contact time, solution pH,temperature, and ionic strength, were determined by experiments. The experimental results were analyzed by kinetic and isotherm models. The adsorption kinetics was found to follow a pseudo-first-order model. The equilibrium adsorption data fitted well with the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. However, the Langmuir isotherm was more suitable to describe the adsorption.Thermodynamics parameters such as Gibbs-free energy change(△C~0),enthalpy change(△H~0) and entropy change(△S~0) were calculated. Results showed that the adsorption was feasible, spontaneous, entropy increasing, and endothermic in nature, which reached equilibrium in about 24 hours. The adsorption capacity did not cause obvious change at solution pH 3.0-9.0,and decreased in solution pH 9.0-11.0.The presence of electrolytes such as NaCl in aqueous solution had a significant negative effect on the adsorption. The mechanisms controlling the adsorption were supposed to be chemisorption.  相似文献

The adsorption of cobalt ions was evaluated using sediment samples from water bodies to investigate the adsorption properties of sediment and the behavior of these natural materials in the presence of nuclear and industrial waste. The two sediments(S1 and S2)were treated to eliminate humic and fulvic acids and then they were characterized by several techniques. The minerals found in both the sediments(X-ray diffraction)were quartz and albite;plus, goethite and muscovite in S1,and kaolinite and montmorillonite in S2.Point of zero charge(PZC)of S1 and S2 was 6.00 and 5.22,respectively.The specific area of S1(63.3 m2/g)is higher than S2(1.5 m2/g).Adsorption kinetics data for S1 and S2 were best fitted to the pseudo second-order model. The removal efficiency of S1 for cobalt was 96%with an adsorption capacity(qe)of 0.93 mg/g,and for S2 was 45%with a qeof 0.40 mg/g.The experimental data of the adsorption isotherms were adjusted to Langmuir and Freundlich models for S1 and S2,respectively.The thermodynamic parameters(enthalpy, entropy, and Gibb’s free energy)indicated that the adsorption processes were endothermic, spontaneous, and chemisorption mechanism. The results show that the adsorption capacities of the sediments depend on their composition. These water sediments have important adsorption properties for cobalt, and they can be used in the treatment of nuclear and industrial aqueous wastes.  相似文献

The sediment deposited behind a dam(DS) and its inorganic materials(IM-DS) were characterized and used for the removal of praseodymium(Pr) from aqueous solutions. Quartz, albite, and kaolinite were found in the sediment by X-ray diffraction. Kinetic data fit well to a pseudo second-order model, the equilibrium time for DS and IM-DS was 2 h and 3 min, respectively, and the adsorption capacity was higher for Pr/DS(qe= 4.91 mg/g) than for Pr/IM-DS(qe= 3.01 mg/g) in these condi...  相似文献

Estimation of sedimentation in reservoirs helps in the management and design of the reservoir's useful capacity. This research was done on the Awash River basin at the Koka Dam Reservoir in Ethiopia. The method applied was the loose integration of the Soil and Water Assessment Tool(SWAT) model and Hydrologic Engineering Center-River Analysis System(HEC-RAS) model for the estimation of the sediment load reaching the reservoir. The SWAT model was used for the estimation of erosion at the catchment level, and the HEC-RAS model was applied to estimate the sediment transport in the river channel. The implemented method allows sedimentation in the floodplains and bed shear stress to be considered in the sediment modeling, which cannot be considered in the SWAT model. In addition, the river cross sectional properties and the hydrodynamic processes in the rivers were considered in the modeling process. The data used in this study are a combination of i) observed data collected by government agencies, ii) data available online in data repositories, and iii) data extracted from remote sensing in the Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission(SRTM) Digital Elevation Model(DEM). The calibration and validation of the SWAT model was done by using Sequential Uncertainty Fitting(SUIF-2) calibration and validation tools. The HEC-RAS model was calibrated by adjusting the roughness factor. The output from the integrated approaches gives better estimates of flow and sediment near the inlet to the reservoir, with coefficients of determination of 0.85 and 0.67, respectively, and Nash Sutcliffe coefficients of model fit efficiency of 0.90 and 0.62, respectively, for daily simulations.  相似文献

Model calibration and validation are necessary before applying it for scenario assessment and watershed management. This study presented the methodology of evaluating Soil and Water Assessment Tool(SWAT) and tested the feasibility of SWAT on runoff and sediment load simulation in the Zhifanggou watershed located in hilly-gullied region of China.Daily runoff and sediment event data from 1998-2008 were used in this study;data from 1998-2003 were used for calibration and 2004-2008 for validation. The evaluation statistics for the daily runoff simulation showed that the model results were acceptable, but the model underestimated the runoff for high-flow events. For sediment load simulation, the SWAT performed well in capturing the trend of sediment load, while the model tended to underestimate sediment load during both the calibration and validation periods. The disparity between observed and simulated data most likely resulted from limitations of the existing SCS-CN and MUSLE methods in the model. This study indicated that the modification of SWAT components is needed to take rainfall intensity and its duration into account to enhance the model performance on peak flow and sediment load simulation during heavy rainfall season.  相似文献

The performance of a linear resuspension model developed in the Baltic Sea was studied in the conditions of a eutrophic Lake Kirkkoj(a|¨)rvi(southern Finland). The model predicts sediment resuspension rate using data on vegetation cover, wind and sediment quality as an input. When the original model coefficients were used, the model resulted on average 1.8 fold overestimation of the resuspension rate in Kirkkoj(a|¨)rvi. This was due to lower fetch and water depth, and less consolidated sediment of Kirkkoj(a|¨)rvi compared with the Baltic Sea study site. When coefficients were adjusted for Kirkkoj(a|¨)rvi, the model predictions were 1.1 times the measured values.Due to the continuous resuspension, the effect of the wind term in the model was so low that it could be excluded without affecting the accuracy of model predictions. The study demonstrated that in a shallow eutrophic lake accurate predictions on resuspension rate can be made using only data on sediment quality and on factors inhibiting resuspension(macrophytes). The model residuals increased with increasing resuspension rate and high rates of resuspension were underestimated by the model.Due to the fluffy sediment in Kirkkoj(a|¨)rvi, erosion of sediment increases more than linear with increasing shear stress. Thus in such conditions, even better predictions could be achieved by a non-linear resuspension model.  相似文献

In the recent years, the Red Sea coast of Yemen has been severely affected by intensive anthropogenic activities. The current study constitutes a thorough inquiry to evaluate the extent of heavy metals pollution in Yemen's Red Sea coast sediment and identifies the possible sources of pollution. The concentrations of five metals(copper(Cu),zinc(Zn),cadmium(Cd),lead(Pb),and nickel(Ni))collected from nine sites along the Red Sea coast of Yemen were assessed using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer(ASS).Sediment quality indices, such as the sediment quality guidelines(SQGs),potential ecological risk(RI),contamination factor(CF),pollution load index(PLI),geoaccumulation index(Igeo),and modified degree of contamination(mCd)were computed. In addition, multivariate statistical techniques(principal component analysis(PCA),hierarchical cluster analysis, and Pearson's correlation analysis)were applied to identify the potential sources of metals. The mean concentrations of Cu,Zn,Cd,Pb,and Ni were 51.3,61.9,4.02,9.9,and 33.4 mg/kg dry wt,respectively. The spatial distribution revealed that the metals concentrations were high at the middle zone and low southward of Hodeida city.According to the SQGs,the adverse biological effects of metals were occasionally associated with Cu and Cd,frequently associated with Ni,and not expected to occur with Zn and Pb.The RI indicated that the sediment of the studied sites pose low(RI<50)to considerable(100≤RI<200)ecological risk. The mean effect range-median quotient(M-ERM-Q)indicated that the combination of the studied metals had the toxicity probability of 21%at all studied sites.Igeo and CF indicated that the metals concentrations were in the descending order of:Zn>Ni>Pb>Cd>Cu,whereas the PLI and mCd indicated that Ras Isa(Site 5)and Urj village(Site 6)were the most polluted sites.PCA,cluster analysis, and correlation analysis found that Cd,Pb,and Ni mostly originated from anthropogenic sources while Cu and Zn were mainly derived from natural sources. Thus,it is evident that the intensive anthropogenic activities had negative influence on metals accumulation in the sediment of the Red Sea coast of Yemen leading to detrimental effects to the whole ecosystem. These comprehensive findings provide valuable information and data for future monitoring studies regarding heavy metals pollution and sediment quality at the Red Sea coast of Yemen.  相似文献

Most of the studies on Artificial Neural Network (ANN) models remain restricted to smaller rivers and catchments. In this paper, an attempt has been made to correlate variability of sediment loads with rainfall and runoff through the application of the Back Propagation Neural Network (BPNN) algorithm for a large tropical river. The algorithm and simulation are done through MATLAB environment. The methodology comprised of a collection of data on rainfall, water discharge, and sediment discharge for the Narmada River at various locations (along with time variables) and application to develop a threelayer BPNN model for the prediction of sediment discharges. For training and validation purposes a set of 549 data points for the monsoon (16 June-15 November) period of three consecutive years (1996–1998) was used. For testing purposes, the BPNN model was further trained using a set of 732 data points of monsoon season of four years (2006–07 to 2009–10) at nine stations. The model was tested by predicting daily sediment load for the monsoon season of the year 2010–11. To evaluate the performance of the BPNN model, errors were calculated by comparing the actual and predicted loads. The validation and testing results obtained at all these locations are tabulated and discussed. Results obtained from the model application are robust and encouraging not only for the sub-basins but also for the entire basin. These results suggest that the proposed model is capable of predicting the daily sediment load even at downstream locations, which show nonlinearity in the transportation process. Overall, the proposed model with further training might be useful in the prediction of sediment discharges for large river basins.  相似文献

A two-dimensional mathematical model for simulating flow and sediment transport is presented. The model simulates flow and geo-morphological processes using a high order accurate, oscillation free scheme. The depth averaged Reynolds (shallow water) equations are used for flow simulation. Both equilibrium and non-equilibrium methods (by solving convection-diffusion equation) are used for sediment transport modeling while sediment carrying capacity is computed using different methods. A finite volume, flux difference splitting scheme is employed to solve the governing equations, which is able to simulate sub, super and transeritical flows with shock waves. Moreover, the numerical method is able to simulate flow over the variable topographies and it has a low level of numerical diffusion in the case of circulating flows like headlands. The computational grid of this model is triangular unstructured with variable size, which is flexible for arbitrary geometries and grid refinement. Using the model for simulating flow and sediment transport in some test cases such as a partially closed channel and comparing the results showed that the results obtained by the developed model were in a reasonable agreement with measurements and the other models cited.  相似文献

Soil susceptibility to detachment and transport sub-processes of erosion is generally controled by the aggregate breakdown mechanism. Measuring particle size and aggregation to the estimate erodibility potential of soils is important under erosive rainfall conditions. The Aggregate Size Distribution (ASD) is one of the most important determinants of soil structure along with soil organic matter content for describing the efficiency of applied, sustainable management strategies. This study aimed to compare the performances of three different aggregate size distribution models to predict the characteristic aggregate size parameter (median diameter, D50) for eroded sediment from interrill erosion processes of Rain- Splash Transport (RST) and Raindrop Impacted Flow Transport (RIFT). The ASDs of 1143 collected sediment samples from the RST and RIFT processes were measured and modeled by the Log-normal, Fractal, and Weibull approaches. The D50 value, as a characteristic parameter for aggregate size distributions, derived from the cumulative ASD curve was compared for soils from different land use types and different slope and rainfall intensity conditions. The performance of each model was evaluated using the Mean Square Error (MSE) and Coefficient of Determination (R^2). The Weibull approach was the most accurate model showing the best fit with the lowest MSE values (0.0002 ≤MSE≤ 0.0048) and having the greatest R2 values (0.936≤ R^2≤ 0.998) when compared with the Log-normal and Fractal models. Herewith, for semi-arid land use and soil, specific shape and scale parameters for the Weibull distribution, the respective ASDs were successfully re-generated for modeling the eroded sediment of the simulated RST and RIFT interill processes.  相似文献

Modeling of suspended sediment particle movement in surface water can be achieved by stochastic particle tracking model approaches. In this paper, different mathematical forms of particle tracking models are introduced to describe particle movement under various flow conditions,i.e.,the stochastic diffusion process, stochastic jump process, and stochastic jump diffusion process. While the stochastic diffusion process can be used to represent the stochastic movement of suspended particles in turbulent flows, the stochastic jump and the stochastic jump diffusion processes can be used to describe suspended particle movement in the occurrences of a sequence of extreme flows. An extreme flow herein is defined as a hydrologic flow event or a hydrodynamic flow phenomenon with a low probability of occurrence and a high impact on its ambient flow environment. In this paper, the suspended sediment particle is assumed to immediately follow the extreme flows in the jump process(i.e.the time lag between the flow particle and the sediment particle in extreme flows is considered negligible). In the proposed particle tracking models,a random term mainly caused by fluid eddy motions is modeled as a Wiener process, while the random occurrences of a sequence of extreme flows can be modeled as a Poisson process. The frequency of occurrence of the extreme flows in the proposed particle tracking model can be explicitly accounted for by the Poisson process when evaluating particle movement. The ensemble mean and variance of particle trajectory can be obtained from the proposed stochastic models via simulations. The ensemble mean and variance of particle velocity are verified with available data.Applicability of the proposed stochastic particle tracking models for sediment transport modeling is also discussed.  相似文献

It was indicated in this study that there were negative relations between the concentrations of suspended solid (SS) and transparency according to the analysis of measured data of Lake Taihu. Their relations in pervious studies were reviewed, which showed that the changes of transparency in Lake Taihu could be reflected by simulating suspended solid concentration (SSC). Measured data showed that the changes of SSC with wind speed were similar at different water depths. SSC increased with the increasing of wind speed. Both wave and lake current of Lake Taihu had positive relations with SSC. However, wave was the main factor affecting sediment suspension, while flow took the second place. In this study, a numerical model coupling lake current, wave and SSC of Lake Taihu was developed. In the SS model, the combined effects of wave and current were included. The amounts of suspended and deposited sediments near the lake bed surface layer were treated separately. The stochastic characteristics of turbulent flow pulsation near lake beds were also considered, and the start-up conditions of sediment suspension were introduced to the model. The model elucidated the mutual exchange processes between sediment particles in SS and active sediments within and on the bed surface layer. Simulated results showed that lake current had relatively significant effects on the SSC at littoral areas of Lake Taihu, while SSC at the central area of the lake was mainly influenced by wave. The changes of transparency with SSC were simulated for Lake Taihu using this model. Calculated results were validated by measured data with good fitness, which indicated that the model is basically suitable for the simulation and prediction of transparency of Lake Taihu.  相似文献

Pollutants are carried by sediment-laden flow dissolved in water or adsorbed on sediment particles. A transient three-dimensional model based on a compressible VOF(volume of fluid) method was developed to simulate the transport of dissolved and particulate pollutants.VOF is a numerical technique for acquiring and tracking the free surface of water flow.Local scouring, deposition and re-suspension were simulated and the processes of adsorption and desorption of pollutants on suspended sediment were analyzed.A series of experiments and numerical simulations were performed to study the transportation and dispersion of pollutants in the flow around a non-submerged spur dyke in a straight flume of rectangular shape. The simulation results agreed well with the experimental results.A certain volume of pollutants solution was released into the flow at upstream of the spur dyke. The concentration reduced with time. The concentration reduction was slower in the circumfluence zone than in the main flow. The ratio of adsorption to desorption coefficients was different for pollutants on suspended sediment with different diameter. The peak concentration of dissolved pollutants increased with the ratio of the adsorption to the desorption coefficients. The angle of the spur dyke affected the peak concentration around the dyke. The effect of the angle on dissolved pollutants decreased with the ratio of adsorption to desorption coefficients. The adsorption and desorption coefficients,as well as the saturated adsorption capacity had no effect on the concentration of particulate pollutants.  相似文献

The last two decades have witnessed the development and application of well-balanced numerical models for shallow flows in natural rivers. However, until now there have been no such models for flows with non-uniform sediment transport. This paper presents a 1D well-balanced model to simulate flows and non-capacity transport of non-uniform sediment in alluvial rivers. The active layer formulation is adopted to resolve the change of bed sediment composition. In the framework of the finite volume Slope Llmiter Centred(SLIC) scheme,a surface gradient method is incorporated to attain well-balanced solutions to the governing equations. The proposed model is tested against typical cases with irregular topography, including the refilling of dredged trenches, aggradation due to sediment overloading and flood flow due to landslide dam failure. The agreement between the computed results and measured data is encouraging.Compared to a non-well-balanced model, the well-balanced model features improved performance in reproducing stage, velocity and bed deformation. It should find general applications for non-uniform sediment transport modelling in alluvial rivers, especially in mountain areas where the bed topography is mostly irregular.  相似文献

Yangshan near-shore sea area is the multi-island and multi-channel area with strong flow velocity and high suspended sediment concentration. Based on the characteristics of tidal currents, waves, and sediment in the Yangshan area, a two-dimensional numerical model of tidal currents, sediment transport, and sea bed deformation is developed. In the model, the effects of tidal currents and wind waves on sediment transport are considered. According to characteristics of the study area, unstructured grids are applied to fit the boundaries of the near-shore sea area. The results show that the calculated values are in good agreement with the measured data. The field of tidal currents, suspended sediment concentrations, and the deformation of the seabed can be successfully simulated.  相似文献

RATIONAL BASIS FOR SUSPENDED SEDIMENT MODELING   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This paper presents a rational basis to model the transport of suspended sediment. The loose-boundary condition for 3D models and the adjustment coefficients for both the depth-integrated 2D and laterally integrated 1D models are treated comprehensively. A combination of Dirichlet and Neumann conditions is proposed as the loose-boundary condition. The adjustment coefficient for 2D models is obtained on the basis of the proposed boundary condition and analytical solutions developed for some simple cases of non-equilibrium transport of sediment in uniform flows. The adjustment coefficient for 1D models for natural rivers is further obtained from lateral integration. Comparisons with analytical solutions and a considerable amount of laboratory and prototype data show that mathematical models developed along the proposed line of attack would well simulate the transport of suspended sediment in practical problems.  相似文献

Applications of sediment transport and water flow characteristics based sediment transport simulation models for a river system are presented in this study. An existing water–sediment model and a new sediment–water model are used to formulate the simulation models representing water and sediment movement in a river system. The sediment–water model parameters account for water flow characteristics embodying sediment transport properties of a section. The models are revised formulations of the multiple water inflows model describing water movement through a river system as given by the Muskingum principle. The models are applied to a river system in Mississippi River basin to estimate downstream sediment concentration, sediment discharge, and water discharge. River system and the river section parameters are estimated using a revised and the original multiple water inflows models by applying the genetic algorithm. The models estimate downstream sediment transport rates on the basis of upstream sediment/water flow rates to a system. Model performance is evaluated by using standard statistical criteria;downstream water discharge resulting from the original multiple water inflows model using the estimated river system parameters indicate that the revised models satisfactorily describe water movement through a river system. Results obtained in the study demonstrate the applicability of the sediment transport and water flow characteristics-based simulation models in predicting downstream sediment transport and water flow rates in a river system.  相似文献

River sediment produced through weathering is one of the principal landscape modification processes on earth.Rivers are an integral part of the hydrologic cycle and are the major geologic agents that erode the continents and transport water and sediments to the oceans.Estimation of suspended sediment yield is always a key parameter for planning and management of any river system. It is always challenging to model sediment yield using traditional mathematical models because they are incapable of handling the complex non-linearity and non-stationarity.The suspended sediment modeling of the river depends on the number of factors such as rock type, relief, rainfall, temperature, water discharge and catchment area.In this study,we proposed a hybrid genetic algorithm-based multi-objective optimization with artificial neural network(GA-MOO-ANN)with automated parameter tuning model using these factors to estimate the suspended sediment yield in the entire Mahanadi River basin. The model was validated by comparing statistically with other models, and it appeared that the GA-MOO-ANN model has the lowest root mean squared error(0.009)and highest coefficient of correlation(0.885)values among all comparative models(traditional neural network, multiple linear regression, and sediment rating curve)for all stations. It was also observed that the proposed model is the least biased(0.001)model.Thus,the proposed GA-MOOANN is the most capable model, compared to other studied models, for estimating the suspended sediment yield in the entire Mahanadi river basin,India. The results also suggested that the proposed GA-MOO-ANN model is unable to estimate suspended sediment yield satisfactorily at gauge stations having very small catchment areas whereas performing satisfactorily on locations having moderate to the large catchment area. The models provide the best result at Tikarapara, the gauge station location in the extreme downstream, having the largest catchment area.  相似文献

Adsorption by nanoporous media is critically involved in many fundamental geological and geochemical processes including chemical weathering, element migration and enrichment, environmental pollution, etc.Yet,the adsorption behavior of metal ions on nanoporous materials has not been systematically investigated. In this study,MCM-41 material with a monodisperse pore size(4.4 nm)and a large BET specific surface area(839 m^2/g)was hydrothermally prepared and used as a model silica adsorbent to study the adsorption characteristics of Cu^2+as a representative metal ion.The Cu^2+adsorption capacity was found to increase with increasing suspension pH in the range from 3 to 5 and to decrease in the presence of NaNO3.At 25℃,pH=5,and a solid-to-liquid ratio of 5 g/L,the adsorption capacity was determined to be 0.29 mg/g,which can be converted to a dimensionless partition coefficient of 45,indicating a strong enriching effect of nanoporous silica. The adsorption isotherm and kinetic data were fitted to several commonly used thermodynamic, kinetic, and diffusion models. The adsorption mechanism was also studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and synchrotron-based X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The results suggest that Cu2+ion adsorption is an entropy-driven endothermal process, possibly involving both outer-sphere and inner-sphere complexes.  相似文献
