We analyze the influence of the evolution of light absorption by gray dust in the host galaxies of type Ia supernovae (SN Ia) and the evolution of the mean combined mass of close-binary carbon-oxygen white dwarfs merging due to gravitational waves (SN Ia precursors) on the interpretation of Hubble diagrams for SN Ia. A significant increase in the mean SN Ia energy due to the higher combined masses of merging dwarfs should be observable at redshifts z > 2. The observed relation between the distance moduli and redshifts of SN Ia can be interpreted not only as evidence for accelerated expansion of the Universe, but also as indicating time variations of the gray-dust absorption of light from these supernovae in various types of host galaxies, observational selection effects, and the decreasing mean combined masses of merging degenerate dwarfs.  相似文献

BV RI data are presented for the majority of steep-spectrum objects in the RC catalog with m R <23.5m. Previously developed programs are applied to these data to estimate the redshifts and ages of the stellar systems of the host galaxies. Applying this program to the color data (BV RI JHK) for distant radio galaxies with spectroscopic redshifts indicates that this approach provides accurate estimates of the redshifts of such radio galaxies, close to those obtained using field galaxies (~20%). The age estimates are much less trustworthy, but a lower limit to the ages of objects that are not very distant (z<1.5) can be determined with certainty. We have identi fied several galaxies whose formal ages exceed the age of the Universe at the corresponding z in simple Cold Dark Matter models for the Universe. The possibility of using such objects to elucidate the role of “dark energy” is discussed. This paradox disappears in models with cosmological constants (Λ terms) equal to 0.6–0.8.  相似文献

We use UBVRI CCD photometry to study star-forming regions (SFRs) in the galaxies NGC 5585 and IC 1525. The observations were acquired with the 1.5-m telescope of the Mt. Maidanak Observatory of the Astronomical Institute of the Uzbek Academy of Sciences (Uzbekistan), with seeing of 0.8″–1.8″. We identified 47 SFRs in NGC 5585 and 16 SFRs in IC 1525. We estimated the ages and internal extinctions of the SFRs using the PEGASE2 evolution models. The sizes of the SFRs were also determined. We discuss in detail the techniques applied to evaluate the SFR parameters from photometric analysis. The age range for the studied SFRs is (2–40) × 106 yrs, and the internal extinctions are A(V ) ≤ 1.5m. The age distributions of the SFRs in both galaxies are typical of stellar systems with intense, extended star formation. The internal extinction in the SFRs decreases with distance from the galactic centers: A(V ) ∝ −r. For both galaxies, the scale length for the decrease of the dust surface density, estimated from the A(V )−r relation for SFRs, is close to the scale length for the disk brightness decrease in the V and R bands. Relatively larger and older SFRs are observed in the galaxies’ rings, while such SFRs are not found in the spiral arms. We detected different SFR parameters for different spiral arms of NGC 5585.  相似文献

The results of spectroscopic observations of the host galaxies of objects in the RC catalog (the “Big Trio” program) obtained using the new SCORPIO spectrograph of the Special Astrophysical Observatory are presented. The spectroscopic redshifts of the objects are compared with their photometric color redshifts, and the errors in the latter are estimated. Based on BV RI observations obtained on the 6-m telescope of the SAO, the errors for the population of powerful radio galaxies are close to those found previously for radio quiet galaxies (about 10–20%). The detection of Ly α in the B filter in RC 1626+0448 is confirmed. This object is the second spectrally studied FR II radio source from the RC catalog to have a redshift z>2.5. Star formation in its host galaxy began at a redshift z>3.3. This first use of the new SCORPIO spectrograph demonstrates its promise for studies of very distant steep-spectrum radio galaxies brighter than 23m–24m in V.  相似文献

We study the evolution of the [O/Fe]-[Fe/H] relation and the dependence of the iron abundance on distance from the galactic plane z in a one-zone model for a disk galaxy, starting from the beginning of star formation. We obtain good agreement with the observational data, including, for the first time, agreement for the [Fe/H]-z relation out to heights of 16 kpc. We also study the influence of the presence of dark matter in the galaxies on the star-formation rate. Comparison of the observed luminosity of the Galaxy with the model prediction places constraints on the fractional mass of dark matter, which cannot be much larger than the fractional mass of visible matter, at least within the assumed radius of the Galaxy, ~20 kpc. We studied the evolution of disk galaxies with various masses, which should obey the Tully-Fisher relation, M ? R2. The Tully-Fisher relation can be explained as a combination of a selection effect related to the observed surface brightnesses of galaxies with large radii and the conditions for the formation for elliptical galaxies.  相似文献

A method for determining the thickness of the stellar disk of a galaxy from a photometric image of the galaxy in the plane of the sky is proposed and justified. The method can be applied to determine the thickness of plane-parallel exponential disks with an arbitrary, radius-independent, luminosity distribution perpendicular to the plane of the disk J(r, z) = exp(-r/h)f(z). A special feature and advantage of the method is that it enables determination of the thicknesses of disks viewed at arbitrary angles to the plane of the sky (but not strictly edge-on or face-on). The key idea of the method is finding the true inclinations of galaxies viewed at arbitrary angles not from their isophotes, but instead from the azimuthal distribution of the exponential parameter h. The difference between the inclination determined in the traditional way using the isophotes and the true inclination enables estimation of the thickness of the disk. The effectiveness of the method for determining the inclinations of plane-parallel disks is confirmed using a sample of model isothermal galactic disks: I(r, z) = I0 exp(-r/h)sech2(z/z0). The inclinations of the planes of the model galaxies to the line of sight and the relative thicknesses in the model sample vary arbitrarily, making it possible to determine the limits of applicability of the method: z0/h < 0.7 and 10° <i < 75°.A sample of 44 piecewise-exponential disks of galaxies of the southern sky clusters is used to illustrate the application of the technique to observational data. Comparing the distribution of inclinations calculated using the new method and the traditional isophote method shows that the new method yields a more uniform distribution of inclinations to the plane of the sky for the sample galaxies. The derived average disk thicknesses and the disk-thickness distributions are consistent with statistical estimates and observational data from the literature for samples of galaxies viewed edge-on

The four well studied spiral galaxies M33, M81, M100, and M101 are used to analyze the dependences of the star-formation rate (SFR) and star-formation efficiency (SFE = SFR/M gas ) on galactocentric distance R and the photometric and some kinematic parameters of galactic disks. The dependences SFR(R) were estimated based on UV and far-infrared data using published extinction-corrected UV brightness profiles of the galaxies. The local SFE values are most closely related to the surface brightness (density) of the galactic disk at a given R, with this dependence being the same for all four galaxies (except for their central regions). In order to explain the observed disk densities in terms of a simple conservative model (“toy model”) for the evolution of the gas density, the local value of the parameter N in the Schmidt law for the disk (SFR ~ σ gas N ) must not exceed unity. In this case, the observed dependences σ gas (R) and SFE(R) can be matched assuming that accretion is occuring in the central regions of the disks.  相似文献

New arguments supporting the reality of large-scale fluctuations in the density of the visible matter in deep galaxy surveys are presented. A statistical analysis of the radial distributions of galaxies in the COSMOS and HDF-N deep fields is presented. Independent spectral and photometric surveys exist for each field, carried out in different wavelength ranges and using different observing methods. Catalogs of photometric redshifts in the optical (COSMOS-Zphot) and infrared (UltraVISTA) were used for the COSMOS field in the redshift interval 0.1 < z < 3.5, as well as the zCOSMOS (10kZ) spectroscopic survey and the XMM-COSMOS and ALHAMBRA-F4 photometric redshift surveys. The HDFN-Zphot and ALHAMBRA-F5 catalogs of photometric redshifts were used for the HDF-N field. The Pearson correlation coefficient for the fluctuations in the numbers of galaxies obtained for independent surveys of the same deep field reaches R = 0.70 ± 0.16. The presence of this positive correlation supports the reality of fluctuations in the density of visible matter with sizes of up to 1000 Mpc and amplitudes of up to 20% at redshifts z ~ 2. The absence of correlations between the fluctuations in different fields (the correlation coefficient between COSMOS and HDF-N is R = ?0.20 ± 0.31) testifies to the independence of structures visible in different directions on the celestial sphere. This also indicates an absence of any influence from universal systematic errors (such as “spectral voids”), which could imitate the detection of correlated structures.  相似文献

We probed the relation between properties of Seyfert nuclei and morphology of their host galaxies. We selected Seyfert galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey with redshifts less than 0.2 identified by the Vé ron Catalog (13th). We used the FracDev parameter from SDSS galaxy fitting models to represent the bulge fractions of the Seyfert host galaxies. We found that the host galaxies of Seyfert 1 and Seyfert 2 are dominated by large bulge fractions, and Seyfert 2 galaxies are more likely to be located in disk galaxies whereas most of the Seyfert 1 galaxies are located in bulge-dominant galaxies. These results indicate that the types of AGNs are related to their host galaxies and cannot be explained by the traditional unification model of Seyfert galaxies.  相似文献

We present classifications, optical identifications, and radio spectra for 19 radio sources from three complete samples, with declinations 4°–6° (B1950, S 3.9 GHz > 200 mJy), 10°–12°30′ (J2000, S 4.85 GHz > 200 mJy), and 74°–75° (J2000, S 4.85 GHz > 100 mJy). We also present corresponding information for the radio source J0527+0331. The right ascensions are 0–24h and the Galactic latitudes |b| > 15° for all the samples. Our observations were obtained with the 6 m telescope from the Special Astrophysical Observatory in the range 4000–9000 Å or 4000–7500 Å and the RATAN-600 radio telescope at frequencies in the range 0.97–21.7 GHz. We obtained flux densities for the radio sources and optical spectra for their optical counterparts. Nine objects were classified as quasars with redshifts from z = 1.029 to 3.212; nine objects are emission-line galaxies with redshifts from 0.172 to 0.546, and one is a galaxy with burstlike star formation at z = 0.156, and one is a BL Lac object with z = 0.509. The spectra of five radio sources were decomposed into extended and compact components. The radio source J0527+0331, identified with a BL Lac object, displays significant variations of time scales from several days to several years. Data on flux variations are presented for 11 radio sources, as well as their spectra at several epochs.  相似文献

We present the results of spectroscopy of 71 objects with steep and ultra-steep spectra (α < −0.9, Sν α) from the “Big Trio” (RATAN-600-VLA-BTA) project, performed with the “Scorpio” spectrograph on the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory (Russian Academy of Sciences). Redshifts were determined for these objects. We also present several other parameters of the sources, such as their R magnitudes, maximum radio sizes in seconds of arc, flux densities at 500, 1425, and 3940 MHz, radio luminosities at 500 and 3940 MHz, and morphology. Of the total number of radio galaxies studied, four have redshifts 1 ≤ z < 2, three have 2 ≤ z < 3, one has 3 ≤ z < 4, and one has z = 4.51. Thirteen sources have redshifts 0.7 < z < 1 and 15 have 0.2 < z < 0.7.Of all the quasars studied, five have redshifts 0.7 < z < 1, seven have 1 ≤ z < 2, four have 2 ≤ z < 3, and one has z = 3.57. We did not detect any spectral lines for 17 objects.  相似文献

Results of studies of bright radio sources in the constellation Cetus are presented. More than 50% of the sources have radio spectral indices steeper than 0.9. Optical identifications have been determined for 35 sources. A large fraction of the radio sources are identified with weak blue galaxies. Given their spectral indices, it is likely that these objects have redshifts z=0.4–1.0. More than 20% of the steep-spectrum sources do not have optical identifications and appear to be weak galaxies with z>2.  相似文献

We consider the observed continuum linear polarization of extragalactic objects with various redshifts z, most of which have degrees of polarization p ≤ 10%. We propose that this polarization is due to multiple scattering of the radiation in magnetized accretion disks around the Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN; the Milne problem in an optically thick atmosphere). The structure of the accretion disks and the polarization of the emergent radiation depend on the main parameters of the AGN—the mass of the central body M BH , accretion rate $ \dot M $ \dot M , magnetic field at the black-hole event horizon B H , angular momentum a *, and the explicit form of the magnetic-field distribution in the accretion disk. Theoretical expressions for the degree of polarization are averaged over all angles of the disks to the line of sight, and the resulting formula compared with the mean observed polarizations in redshift intervals Δz = 0.25. The dependence of the observed degree of polarization and the main parameters on the redshift z is derived. The degrees of polarization of 305 objects from the catalog of Hutsemekers et al. with redshifts from zero to z = 2.25 are used for the analysis.  相似文献

Results of reducing and selecting data from the Ratan Zenith Field (RZF) are presented. A deep survey in the region 0h ≤ R.A. ≤ 24h, 40.5° ≤ DEC ≤ 42.5° carried out on the RATAN-600 radio telescope was used. Within +2′ of the center of the survey region, 448 objects were detected, 69 of them with ultra-steep spectra (USS). The SDSS digital optical survey (DR12), NVSS radio maps, and the FIRST catalogs have been used to cross-identify 208 radio sources from the RZF catalog, obtained as part of the “Genetic Code of the Universe” project. The characteristics of these objects are studied, and the distribution of the SDSS galaxies in a two-color diagram is obtained. Photometric redshifts and radio luminosities at 3940 and 1400 MHz are determined for 27 objects with spectral indices α < −1.1 (Sνα) for which magnitudes in various filters are presented in the SDSS. In the sample of USS objects, 12 galaxies have redshifts z < 0.5, are detected at wavelength λ = 7.6 cm, and have relatively high radio luminosities (type FR II or intermediate type FR I–FR II). Only one radio galaxy proved to be a rare nearby galaxy with relatively low radio luminosity L1400 MHz = 1.51 × 1024 W/Hz (type FR I). Two objects are candidate GHz-Peaked Spectrum objects.

The statistical relation between the masses of supermassive black holes (SMBHs) in disk galaxies and the kinematic properties of their host galaxies is analyzed. Velocity estimates for several galaxies obtained earlier at the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the data for other galaxies taken from the literature are used. The SMBH masses correlate well with the rotational velocities at a distance of R ≈ 1 kpc, V 1, which characterize the mean density of the central region of the galaxy. The SMBH masses correlate appreciably weaker with the asymptotic velocity at large distances from the center and the angular velocity at the optical radius R 25. We have found for the first time a correlation between the SMBH mass and the total mass of the galaxy within the optical radius R 25, M 25, which includes both baryonic and “dark” mass. The masses of the nuclear star clusters in disk galaxies (based on the catalog of Seth et al.) are also related to the dynamical mass M 25; the correlations with the luminosity and rotational velocity of the disk are appreciably weaker. For a given value of M 25, the masses of the central cluster are, on average, an order of magnitude higher in S0-Sbc galaxies than in late-type galaxies, or than the SMBH masses. We suggest that the growth of the SMBH occurs in the forming “classical” bulge of the galaxy over a time < 109 yr, during a monolithic collapse of gas in the central region of the protogalaxy. The central star clusters form on a different time scale, and their stellar masses continue to grow for a long time after the growth of the central black hole has ceased, if this process is not hindered by activity of the nucleus.  相似文献

The equilibrium thickness of the isothermal layers of interstellar gas and volume gas densities ρ gas in the plane of the disk as a function of galactocentric distance R are computed for seven spiral galaxies (including the Milky Way) using an axisymmetrical model. In this model, the thickness of the stellar disk varies with R and remains approximately equal to the minimum thickness of a stable equilibrium disk. We found the disk thickness to increase toward the periphery in at least five of the seven galaxies. The density of the stellar disk decreases with R faster than ρ gas , so that gas dominates at the disk peripheries in terms of density. A comparison of the azimuthally averaged star formation rate SFR and the gas density shows the absence of a universal Schmidt law SFR ~ρ gas n for galaxies. However, the SFRs in various galaxies are better correlated with the volume than the gas surface density. The parameter n in the Schmidt law formally calculated using the least-squares method lies in the interval 0.8–2.4, being, on average, close to 1.5. The values of n calculated separately for the molecular gas display substantial scatter, but are, on average, close to unity. The value of n appears to increase with decreasing ρ gas , so that the fraction of gas that actively participates in star formation decreases with n.  相似文献

A new catalog of 8382 close quasar-galaxy pairs is presented. The catalog was composed using published catalogs of quasars and active galactic nuclei containing 11358 objects, as well as the LEDA catalog of galaxies, which contains on the order of 100 thousand objects. Based on these new data, the dependence of the number of pairs on a=z G /z Q is analyzed, where z G and z Q are the redshifts of the galaxy and quasar, respectively, revealing an excess of pairs with a<0.1 and a>0.9. This means that the galaxies in pairs are preferably located close to either the observer or the quasar and avoid intermediate distances along the line of sight to the quasar. Computer simulations demonstrate that it is not possible to explain this number of pairs with the observed distribution in a as the result of chance positional coincidences with a uniform spatial distribution of galaxies. Data on globular clusters show that the excess of pairs with a<0.1 and a>0.9 is consistent with the hypothesis that we are observing distant compact objects that are strongly gravitationally lensed by transparent lenses with a King mass distribution located in the halos of nearby galaxies. The Hubble diagram for galaxies and quasars is presented. Observational tests of the mesolensing hypothesis are formulated.  相似文献

We study a compact group of 18 galaxies in the cluster A1367 with redshifts z = 0.0208–0.025. The group’s center of activity in the radio is the galaxy NGC 3862, whose radio flux is an order of magnitude stronger than for the other members of the group. We present coordinates derived from the Palomar plate archive together with recessional velocities, and analyze other characteristics of the group’s galaxies. The results of 1400 MHz observations of NGC 3862 with the RATAN-600 radio telescope are presented. These observations indicate that the galaxy’s radio emission is variable.  相似文献
