In this work, some numerical solutions of magnetohydrodynamic equations are investigated in the presence of radial and azimuthal components of magnetic field with the use of previously developed algorithm. In this algorithm, the thin shell approximation and a special separation of variables is used to obtain the radial and latitudinal variations of physical parameters in spherical coordinates. The solutions are obtained via this separation of variables in the components of momentum transfer equation. The analysis yields three important parameters which are the sphericity, density and radial components shape parameters in the latitudinal distributions of physical variables. The magnetic field profile, used here, produces comparable magnetic fluxes found in previous works. There is a considerable change in density with respect to reference model. Other physical parameters also reveal important physical results. It is as well shown that the spherical symmetric distributions of physical parameters are broken for the region of study.  相似文献

The physical characteristics of possible axisymmetric equilibria are examined on the basis of the integrals of hydromagnetic equations. It is shown for nearly spherical configurations that a surface differential rotation is possible only in the absence of a meridional circulation with either purely toroidal or purely poloidal magnetic field. In the presence of a meridional circulation, it is shown that no surface rotation or constant rotation is possible if the magnetic field is purely toroidal, and that no rotation is possible if the magnetic field is purely poloidal. A brief discussion is given on the possible solutions including the case of stellar winds with force-free magnetic fields. The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

Within the kinematic dynamo theory, we construct a mathematical model for the evolution of the solar toroidal magnetic field, excited by the differential rotation of the convective zone in the presence of a poloidal field of a relic origin. We use a velocity profile obtained by decoding the data of helioseismological experiments. For the model of ideal magnetic hydrodynamics, we calculate the latitudinal profiles of the increasing-with-time toroidal field at different depths in the solar convection zone. It is found that, in the region of differential rotation, the excited toroidal field shows substantial fluctuations in magnitude with depth. Based on the simulations results, we propose an explanation for the “incorrect polarity” of magnetic bipolar sunspot groups in solar cycles.  相似文献

One of the possible magnetic field effects on the stellar pulsations is known to be a splitting in the observed frequencies. Using this knowledge in the solar convection zone, there are two aims in this work Considering the Sun as an incompressible fluid, our first objective was to investigate the variation of the physical parameters in the 30% outermost convective solar layer, during a pulsation period. The second purpose was to calculate, by means of the spherical harmonics, the shifts on the low-l p-mode frequencies which could be caused by the presence of the magnetic field in the Sun. The first order perturbation approximation was used in order to calculate analytically the resulting frequency shifts and the small perturbations on the magnetic field, as well as the physical parameters, such as density, pressure and temperature, of a Standard Solar Model excluding both rotation and magnetic field (Christensen-Dalsgaard et al., 1996) in the unperturbed equilibrium case.  相似文献

The effect of rotation and a general magnetic field on the luminosity, radius, and effective temperature of the upper Main-Sequence stars has been investigated using a perturbation analysis. The magnetic field profile prevailing inside the star is assumed to have both poloidal and toroidal components. The case of constant as well as differential rotation is admitted. Model calculations indicate that these stellar parameters modify considerably as a result of coupling between rotation and the magnetic field.  相似文献

2D numerical simulations of magnetorotational (MR) supernova mechanism are described. It is shown that magnetic field is amplified due to the differential rotation after core collapse. When magnetic pressure reaches some level, a compression wave starts to move outwards. Moving along steeply decreasing density profile the compression wave transforms quickly into fast MHD shock. The magnetorotational instability (MRI) was found in our simulations. MRI leads to the exponential growth of the components of the magnetic field. The MRI significantly reduces MR supernova explosion time. Configuration of the initial magnetic field qualitatively defines the shape of MR supernova explosion. For the quadrupole-like initial poloidal field the MR supernova explosion develops mainly along equatorial plane, the dipole-like initial field results in MR supernova developing as mildly collimated jet along axis of rotation. The explosion energy of MR supernova found in our simulations is ∼0.5–0.6×1051 erg.  相似文献

We study the turbulent behaviour induced by the magnetic shear instability for a magnetized, incompressible fluid in a spherical shell. A differential rotation that is decreasing outwards but hydrodynamically stable according to the Rayleigh criterion is prescribed, and an external, uniform magnetic field is imposed parallel to the rotation axis. Our main concern in this paper is the fully global treatment of this magnetohydrodynamical system, so we focus particular attention on the influence of the boundary conditions. Non-linear, steady solutions are presented for stress-free as well as for rigid boundary conditions for one specific model with a fixed strength of the external magnetic field and a fixed differential rotation rate. We calculate the eddy viscosity νT and the viscosity alpha αSS resulting from the total stress tensor. These turbulence parameters turn out to differ drastically depending on the boundary conditions for the flow. An investigation of the radial structure of the viscosity alpha (whilst varying the differential rotation law) shows that the enhanced generation of turbulence takes place mainly in the boundary layers of the shell.  相似文献

We present a straightforward comparison of model calculations for the α-effect, helicities, and magnetic field line twist in the solar convection zone with magnetic field observations at atmospheric levels. The model calculations are carried out in a mixing-length approximation for the turbulence with a profile of the solar internal rotation rate obtained from helioseismic inversions. The magnetic field data consist of photospheric vector magnetograms of 422 active regions for which spatially-averaged values of the force-free twist parameter and of the current helicity density are calculated, which are then used to determine latitudinal profiles of these quantities. The comparison of the model calculations with the observations suggests that the observed twist and helicity are generated in the bulk of the convection zone, rather than in a layer close to the bottom. This supports two-layer dynamo models where the large-scale toroidal field is generated by differential rotation in a thin layer at the bottom while the α-effect is operating in the bulk of the convection zone. Our previous observational finding was that the moduli of the twist factor and of the current helicity density increase rather steeply from zero at the equator towards higher latitudes and attain a certain saturation at about 12 – 15. In our dynamo model with algebraic nonlinearity, the increase continues, however, to higher latitudes and is more gradual. This could be due to the neglect of the coupling between small-scale and large-scale current and magnetic helicities and of the latitudinal drift of the activity belts in the model.  相似文献

We have studied the 27-day variations and their harmonics in Galactic cosmic ray (GCR) intensity, solar wind velocity, and interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) components during the recent prolonged solar minimum 23/24. The time evolution of the quasi-periodicity in these parameters connected with the Sun’s rotation reveals that the synodic period of these variations is ≈?26?–?27 days and is stable. This means that the changes in the solar wind speed and the IMF are related to the Sun’s near-equatorial regions in considering the differential rotation of the Sun. However, the solar wind parameters observed near the Earth’s orbit provide only the conditions in the limited local vicinity of the equatorial region in the heliosphere (within ±?7° in latitude). We also demonstrate that the observed period of the GCR intensity connected with the Sun’s rotation increased up to ≈?33?–?36 days in 2009. This means that the process that drives the 27-day GCR intensity variations takes place not only in the limited local surroundings of the equatorial region but in the global 3-D space of the heliosphere, covering also higher latitude regions. A relatively long period (≈?34 days) found for 2009 in the GCR intensity gives possible evidence of the onset of cycle 24 due to active regions at higher latitudes and rotating slowly because of the Sun’s differential rotation. We also discuss the effect of differential rotation on the theoretical model of the 27-day GCR intensity variations.  相似文献

The Sun’s general magnetic field has shown polarity reversal three times during the last three solar cycles. We attempt to estimate the upcoming polarity reversal time of the solar magnetic dipole by using the coronal field model and synoptic data of the photospheric magnetic field. The scalar magnetic potential of the coronal magnetic field is expanded into a spherical harmonic series. The long-term variations of the dipole component ( $g^{0}_{1}$ ) calculated from the data of National Solar Observatory/Kitt Peak and Wilcox Solar Observatory are compared with each other. It is found that the two $g^{0}_{1}$ values show a similar tendency and an approximately linear increase between the Carrington rotation periods CR 2070 and CR 2118. The next polarity reversal is estimated by linear extrapolation to be between CR 2132.2 (December 2012) and CR2134.8 (March 2013).  相似文献

Eclipse photographs indicate that large regions of the inner solar corona are confined in various types of closed magnetic configurations and, as a result, do not participate in the general solar wind expansion. In this paper, the rotation of initially poloidal loop configurations of this type, as influenced by differential rotation of the footpoints, is investigated. The analysis is restricted to axially symmetric fields and it is assumed that the toroidal magnetic field induced by differential rotation is small as compared to the initial poloidal field. This restricts the validity of the analysis to times less than about one month. The most interesting physical situation is that of flux tubes existing in one solar hemisphere only, one end of the tube being fixed in the photosphere at a higher latitude than the other. As a consequence, the lower end of the tube rotates at a faster rate than the upper end. Solution of the pertinent equations reveals that the angular velocity measured along a field line increases monotonically from its value at the poleward footpoint to that at the lower footpoint. The variation of angular velocity along the field depends upon the field geometry only and is not directly related to the variation of angular velocity along the solar surface between the footpoints. Depending upon the field configuration, both outward radial increases and decreases are possible. Using the Newton and Nunn model for the surface differential rotation rate, the angular velocity distribution on two particularly simple types of closed magnetic loop systems is determined analytically. It is shown that the angular velocity increases outward in the polar regions but decreases outward near the equator - leading to a decrease in differential rotation with height. The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

Gough & McIntyre have suggested that the dynamics of the solar tachocline are dominated by the advection–diffusion balance between the differential rotation, a large-scale primordial field and baroclinicly driven meridional motions. This paper presents the first part of a study of the tachocline, in which a model of the rotation profile below the convection zone is constructed along the lines suggested by Gough & McIntyre and solved numerically. In this first part, a reduced model of the tachocline is derived in which the effects of compressibility and energy transport on the system are neglected; the meridional motions are driven instead by Ekman–Hartmann pumping. Through this simplification, the interaction of the fluid flow and the magnetic field can be isolated and is studied through non-linear numerical analysis for various field strengths and diffusivities. It is shown that there exists only a narrow range of magnetic field strengths for which the system can achieve a nearly uniform rotation. The results are discussed with respect to observations and to the limitations of this initial approach. A following paper combines the effects of realistic baroclinic driving and stratification with a model that closely follows the lines of work of Gough & McIntyre.  相似文献

The characteristics of differential rotation of the solar corona for the period 1976?–?2004 were studied as a function of the distance from the center of the Sun. For this study, we developed a method using the coronal magnetic field as a tracer. The field in a spherical layer from the base of the corona up to the source surface was determined from photospheric measurements. Calculations were performed for 14 heliocentric distances from the base of the corona up to 2.45 \(R_{\odot }\) solar radii (the vicinity of the source surface) and from the equator to \(\pm 75^{\circ }\) of latitude at \(5^{\circ }\) steps. For each day, we calculated three spherical components, which were then used to obtain the field strength. The coronal rotation periods were determined by the periodogram method. The rotation periods were calculated for all distances and latitudes under consideration. The results of these calculations make it possible to study the distribution of the rotation periods in the corona depending on distance, time, and phase of the cycle. The variations in the coronal differential rotation during the time interval 1976?–?2004 were as follows: the gradient of differential rotation decreased with the increase of heliocentric distance; the rotation remaining differential even in the vicinity of the source surface. The highest rotation rates (shortest rotation periods) were recorded at the cycle minimum at small heliospheric distances, i.e. small heights in the corona. The lowest rotation rate was observed at the middle of the ascending branch at large distances. At the minimum of the cycle, the differential rotation is most clearly pronounced, especially at small heliocentric distances. As the distance increases, the differential rotation gradient decreases in all phases. The results based on magnetic data and on the brightness of the coronal green line 530.3 nm Fe xiv used earlier show a satisfactory agreement. Since the rotation of the magnetic field at the corresponding heights in the corona is probably determined by the conditions in the field generation region, an opportunity arises to use this method for diagnostics of differential rotation in the subphotospheric layers.  相似文献

By analyzing data on background magnetic fields (BMF) covering a significant portion of solar activity cycles 20 and 21, it is shown that cellular structure is characteristic for BMF, irrespective of the cycle phase. According to present views, cellular structure in the distribution of different parameters, the magnetic field in particular, can be a consequence of the mass motion of a convective or some other origin. The size, lifetime and some rotation characteristics of BMF cells are estimated experimentally. It is found that BMF cell rotation characteristics undergo cyclic variations. The character of the cyclic variations in rotation differentiality of BMF cells is in agreement with those observed for sunspots, chromospheric filaments, green corona and coronal holes. It is shown that a detailed correspondence exists between cyclic variations in rotation differentiality of BMF cells and coronal holes, which undoubtedly bears witness to the presence of a correlation between these phenomena.  相似文献

The variations of line profiles in the spectrum of FU Ori during several consecutive nights, from January 3 through January 8, 1999, have been traced for the first time in the entire history of studying this star. The variations of the Hα and Na I D line profiles are regular in pattern; at each time, the profiles of these lines were similar to a particular profile observed previously, suggesting that the phenomenon is periodic. We argue that the profile variations result from the axial rotation of the inner accretion-disk and disk-wind regions for which the temperature distribution and the wind-streamline orientation are not axisymmetric. The cause of the asymmetry could be the interaction of circumstellar matter with the stellar magnetic field if the magnetic axis is greatly inclined to the rotation axis. The possible binary nature of FU Ori seems a less likely cause of the asymmetry.  相似文献

Long-lived brightness structures in the solar electron corona persist over many solar rotation periods and permit an observational determination of coronal magnetic tracer rotation as a function of latitude and height in the solar atmosphere. For observations over 1964–1976 spanning solar cycle 20, we compare the latitude dependence of rotation at two heights in the corona. Comparison of rotation rates from East and West limbs and from independent computational procedures is used to estimate uncertainty. Time-averaged rotation rates based on three methods of analysis demonstrate that, on average, coronal differential rotation decreases with height from 1.125 to 1.5 R S. The observed radial variation of differential rotation implies a scale height of approximately 0.7 R S for coronal differential rotation.Model calculations for a simple MHD loop show that magnetic connections between high and low latitudes may produce the observed radial variations of magnetic tracer rotation. If the observed tracer rotation represents the rotation of open magnetic field lines as well as that of closed loops, the small scale height for differential rotation suggests that the rotation of solar magnetic fields at the base of the solar wind may be only weakly latitude dependent. If, instead, closed loops account completely for the radial gradients of rotation, outward extrapolation of electron coronal rotation may not describe magnetic field rotation at the solar wind source. Inward extrapolations of observed rotation rates suggest that magnetic field and plasma are coupled a few hundredths of a solar radius beneath the photosphere.  相似文献

It is argued that differential rotation of the photospheric magnetic fields will induce currents in the corona. The work done against surface magnetic stresses will increase the energy content of the coronal magnetic field. The electrical conductivities are high and the foot points of field lines move with the differential rotation. The force-free field equations are solved with this constraint to obtain a minimum estimate of the energy increase for a quadrupole field. During a solar rotation the magnetic energy increases by 25%. Local release of this energy in the corona would have a significant effect. The expansion of field lines as a result of the differential rotation should increase the amount of flux and the field strength in the solar wind region. The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

It is presumed that a north-southern asymmetry of a solid-body rotation of large spots, depending on even and odd solar activity cycles (Gigolashvili and Khutsishvili 1 1989, 1990) may possibly be explained by the asymmetry of the appearance of large structures with strong magnetic fields in the corresponding hemispheres. Spectral analysis of the observational data shows the presence of cyclic variations of differential rotation of large- and middle-sized spots. Variations of differential rotation of small spots are either absent or overlapped by noise. It is also supposed that the discovered and most frequently realized component of the spectrum of solar differential rotation variations — a four-years periodicity — may be either a real phenomenon or the result of overlapping of multiple quasi bi-annual variations.  相似文献

A two-component theoretical model of the physical libration of the Moon in longitude is constructed with account taken of the viscosity of the core. In the new version, a hydrodynamic problem of motion of a fluid filling a solid rotating shell is solved. It is found that surfaces of equal angular velocity are spherical, and a velocity field of the fluid core of the Moon is described by elementary functions. A distribution of the internal pressure in the core is found. An angular momentum exchange between the fluid core and solid mantle is described by a third-order differential equation with a right-hand side. The roots of a characteristic equation are studied and the stability of rotation is proved. A libration angle as a function of time is found using the derived solution of the differential equation. Limiting cases of infinitely large and infinitely small viscosity are considered and an effect of lag of a libration phase from a phase of action of an external moment of forces is ascertained. This makes it possible to estimate the viscosity and sizes of the lunar fluid core from data of observations.  相似文献

The effect of fluctuations in both the interstellar electron number density and galactic magnetic field on the propagation of high frequency radio waves is discussed in terms of the frequency dependent Faraday rotation. It is shown that when the fluctuations are representative of large scale disturbances (1–102 pc) in the interstellar medium, then the observed Faraday rotation is not a measure of the line of sight integral of the product of the magnetic field with the electron number density.Since evidence has been presented elsewhere for believing that such large scale disturbances do exist in our galaxy, some care must be exercised in the physical interpretation of Faraday rotation measurements.Alfred P.
