The rapid proliferation of Phragmites australis in North America has challenged resource managers to curb its expansion and reduce the loss of functional tidal marsh. We investigated whether native plant competition could reduce the ability of Phragmites to invade a tidal marsh, and if plant diversity (species richness, evenness, and composition) altered the competitive outcome. Immature Phragmites shoots and four native halophytes were transplanted to small but dense field plots (~1,200 shoots m−2) comprising three community structure types (Phragmites alone, Phragmites + 1 native species, and Phragmites + 4 native species). Interspecific competition significantly reduced Phragmites aboveground biomass, shoot length production, density, and survival by approximately 60%. Additionally, plots planted with greater native diversity contained Phragmites with the lowest growth and survival, potentially indicating diversity-enhanced resource competition. Competition consistently reduced the growth of Phragmites even under favorable conditions: lack of strong tidal flooding stresses as well as elevated nutrient pools.  相似文献

This study was carried out to evaluate the seasonal variations of seaweed biomass and species composition at six different sites along the coastal areas in Bushehr Province. Sampling depths varied among sites, from 0.3 to 2.0 m below mean sea level. A total of 37 (i.e., 10 Chlorophyta, 12 Phaeophyta and 15 Rhodophyta) seaweed species were collected. Studies were conducted for quantifying the seaweeds during four seasons from October 2008 until July 2009. During present research, Ulva intestinalis and Cladophora nitellopsis of green, Polycladia myrica, Sirophysalia trinodis and Sargassum angustifolium of brown and Gracilaria canaliculata and Hypnea cervicornis of red seaweeds showed highest biomass in coastal areas of Bushehr Province. The Cheney‘s ratio of 2.1 indicated a temperate algal flora to this area. All sites exhibited more than 50% similarity of algal species, indicating a relatively homogenous algal distribution. Total biomass showed the highest value of 3280.7 ± 537.8 g dry wt m − 2 during summer and lowest value of 856.9 ± 92.0 g dry wt m − 2 during winter. During this study, the highest and lowest seaweed biomass were recorded on the site 2 (2473.7 ± 311.0 g dry wt m − 2) and site 5 (856.7 ± 96.8 g dry wt m − 2), respectively.  相似文献

Berm breaching of intermittently closed estuaries, either naturally or due to management practices, results in a physicochemical disturbance due to the flushing of water, material and biota into the ocean and the subsequent tidal influx. In 2007 and 2008 comparative and controlled studies were employed in three New Zealand estuaries: Sawmill Creek (46°04′ S 170°12′ E), Otokia Creek (45°57′ S 179°20′ E) and Kaikorai Lagoon (45°56′ S 170°23′ E), to investigate the impact of berm breaching on the hyperbenthic macroinvertebrate community in intermittently closed estuaries. Significant changes in community structure occurred in both the weekly comparative and the controlled studies (ANOSIM P < 0.01). Furthermore, the catch per unit effort of both total and key invertebrate taxa significantly increased after breaching (ANOVA P < 0.01). However, substantial numbers of individuals were expelled into the ocean (5,800 individuals, 20-min sample) while new taxa immigrated into the estuaries. Along with migration-related changes to community structure, berm breaches also resulted in the loss of ∼80% of inundated habitat and the concentration of existing populations. Consequently, the management of intermittent estuary connections to the ocean has implications for the ecology of individual, managed estuaries and also for regional coastal populations of epibenthic invertebrates.  相似文献

The Bleikvassli massive sulfide ore deposit is hosted by Proterozoic pelitic, quartzofeldspathic, and amphibolitic rocks of the Uppermost Allochthon of the Scandinavian Caledonides. Staurolite-garnet-biotite and kyanite-staurolite-biotite assemblages indicate that metamorphism reached the kyanite zone of the amphibolite facies. Geothermobarometry was conducted on rocks in and around the deposit using a variety of silicate and sulfide calibrations. Temperature determinations are most reliant on the garnet-biotite exchange reaction, with analyses obtained from 259 garnet rims and adjacent biotite. Results from nine calibrations of the garnet-biotite geothermometer are considered, but compositional limitations of many calibrations involving high Ca and Mn contents in garnet and AlVI and Ti in biotite make many of the coexisting mineral pairs unsuitable. Average temperatures calculated from the two calibrations that most closely address the garnet-biotite compositions observed at Bleikvassli are 584 °C ± 49 °C and 570 °C ± 40 °C. The application of two calibrations of the garnet-staurolite geothermometer on a limited number of samples yields 581 °C ± 2 °C and 589 °C ± 12 °C, assuming a H2O=0.84, based upon calculations of the modal proportions of gaseous species. Pressure determinations are less constrained. Phengite and plagioclase-biotite-garnet-muscovite geobarometers give average pressures of approximately 5.0 kbar and 8.5 ± 1.2 kbar, respectively. Pressures obtained from the sphalerite-hexagonal pyrrhotite-pyrite barometer average 7.7 ± 1.0 kbar. In consideration of these results, the peak metamorphic conditions at the Bleikvassli deposit are estimated to be 580 °C and 8 kbar. Received: 18 June 1997 / Accepted: 14 May 1998  相似文献

We described seasonal fish-assemblages in an estuarine marsh fringing Matagorda Bay, Gulf of Mexico. Habitat zones were identified by patterns of fish species abundance and indicator species optima along gradients in salinity, dissolved oxygen (DO), and depth in our samples. Indicators of the lower brackish zone (lower lake and tidal bayou closest to the bay) were gulf menhaden (Brevoortia patronus), bay anchovy (Anchoa mitchilli), silver perch (Bairdiella chrysoura), and spotted seatrout (Cynoscion nebulosus) at salinity >15‰, DO 7–10 mg l−1, and depth <0.5 m. Indicators of the upper brackish zone (lake and fringing salt marsh) were pinfish (Lagodon rhomboides) and spot (Leiostomus xanthurus) at salinity 10–20‰, DO >10 mg l−1, and depth <0.5 m. In the freshwater wetland zone (diked wetland, ephemeral pool, and perennial scour pool), indicators were sheepshed minnow (Cyprinod on variegatus), rainwater killifish (Lucania parva), mosquitofish (Gambusia affinis), and sailfin molly (Poecilia latipinna) at salinity <5‰, DO <5 mg l−1, and depth ≥1 m. In the freshwater channelized zone (slough and irrigation canal), indicators were three sunfish species (Lepomis), white crappie (Pomoxis annularis), and gizzard shad (Dorosoma cepedianum) at salinity <5‰, DO <5 mg l−1, and depth >1.5 m. In brackish zones, seasonal variation in species diversity among sites was positively correlated with temperature, but assemblage structure also was influenced by depth and DO. In the freshwater zones, seasonal variation in species diversity among sites was positively correlated with depth, DO, and salinity, but assemblage structure was weakly associated with temperature. Species diversity and assemblage structure were strongly affected by the connectivity between freshwater wetland and brackish zones. Uncommon species in diked wetlands, such as tarpon (Megalops atlanticus) and fat sleeper (Dormitator maculatus), indicated movement of fishes from the brackish zone as the water level rose during natural flooding and scheduled (July) releases from the diked wetland. From September to July, diversity in the freshwater wetland zone decreased as receding waters left small isolated pools, and fish movement became blocked by a water-control structure. Subsequently, diversity was reduced to a few species with opportunistic life histories and tolerance to anoxic conditions that developed as flooded vegetation decayed.  相似文献

We determined how the species used for calibration affects the accuracy of in situ chlorophyll a (chl a) measurements by fluorometry using single-species cultures and natural phytoplankton populations from Winyah Bay, South Carolina, USA. When a diatom was used for calibration, chl a in a dinoflagellate culture was overestimated by 66 ± 7%, whereas concentrations of a cryptophyte, chlorophyte, and cyanobacterium were underestimated by 16 ± 20%, 40 ± 7%, and 71 ± 33%, respectively. In natural populations, the combination of species-specific and environmentally induced variation in the ratio of fluorescence to chl a (F Chl−1) led to an overestimate by the in situ fluorometer of 40–169% for an April experiment and an underestimate of 4–50% in July. Even when field samples were dominated by diatoms, environmental effects resulted in highly variable predictions of chl a. Thus, while a carefully selected calibration species can improve estimates of in vivo chl a in the laboratory, calibration of in situ fluorometers should be done with natural communities collected from the site of interest.  相似文献

We measured seasonal variations in microzooplankton grazing in Long Island Sound (LIS) and San Francisco Bay (SFB). There was consistent evidence of nutrient limitation in LIS, but not SFB. We found higher chlorophyll a concentrations in LIS compared with SFB. In spite of differences in phytoplankton, there were no differences in microzooplankton abundance (summer: LIS, 12.4 ± 1.8 × 103 indiv. L−1; SFB, 14.1 ± 3.0 × 103 indiv. L−1), biomass (summer: LIS, 30.4 ± 5.0 μg C L−1; SFB, 26.3 ± 5.9 μg C L−1), or grazing rates (summer: LIS, 0.66 ± 0.19 day−1; SFB, 0.65 ± 0.18 day−1) between the two estuaries. In common with many other investigators, we found many instances of saturated as well as insignificant grazing. We suggest that saturation in some cases may result from high particle loads in turbid estuarine systems and that insignificant grazing may result from extreme saturation of the grazing response due to the need to process non-food particles.  相似文献

The composition and distribution of diatom algae inhabiting estuaries and coasts of the subtropical Americas are poorly documented, especially relative to the central role diatoms play in coastal food webs and to their potential utility as sentinels of environmental change in these threatened ecosystems. Here, we document the distribution of diatoms among the diverse habitat types and long environmental gradients represented by the shallow topographic relief of the South Florida, USA, coastline. A total of 592 species were encountered from 38 freshwater, mangrove, and marine locations in the Everglades wetland and Florida Bay during two seasonal collections, with the highest diversity occurring at sites of high salinity and low water column organic carbon concentration (WTOC). Freshwater, mangrove, and estuarine assemblages were compositionally distinct, but seasonal differences were only detected in mangrove and estuarine sites where solute concentration differed greatly between wet and dry seasons. Epiphytic, planktonic, and sediment assemblages were compositionally similar, implying a high degree of mixing along the shallow, tidal, and storm-prone coast. The relationships between diatom taxa and salinity, water total phosphorus (WTP), water total nitrogen (WTN), and WTOC concentrations were determined and incorporated into weighted averaging partial least squares regression models. Salinity was the most influential variable, resulting in a highly predictive model (r apparent2 = 0.97, r jackknife2 = 0.95) that can be used in the future to infer changes in coastal freshwater delivery or sea-level rise in South Florida and compositionally similar environments. Models predicting WTN (r apparent2 = 0.75, r jackknife2 = 0.46), WTP (r apparent2 = 0.75, r jackknife2 = 0.49), and WTOC (r apparent2 = 0.79, r jackknife2 = 0.57) were also strong, suggesting that diatoms can provide reliable inferences of changes in solute delivery to the coastal ecosystem.  相似文献

The composition of the zooplankton community in a macrotidal (8 m tidal range), tropical estuarine system (Darwin Harbour, Australia; 12o28′ S, 130o50′ E) was studied over a 2 year period with the goal of describing biodiversity and determining the environmental factors that have the greatest impact on community structure. Most (82–84%) of the >73 μm plankton was composed of copepod nauplii and copepodites, and plankton samples taken with larger, coarser meshed (150 and 350 μm) nets did not contain significant numbers of larger (non-copepod) organisms. In all, 32 copepod species were recorded, with small euryhaline marine copepod species such as Parvocalanus crassirostris, Bestiolina similis and Oithona aruensis dominating the zooplankton. Plankton abundances ranged between 30,000 and 110,000 m−3, and there were significant year (2003 > 2004), season (wet > dry) and site differences (inner harbour sites > outer harbour sites), but negligible diurnal differences. Multivariate analyses identified three sample groups: (1) middle and outer harbour sites, (2) inner harbour and river sites and (3) the river site during the wet seasons. Middle and outer harbour stations were characterised by a diverse mixture of coastal copepods, whereas inner harbour and river sites were dominated by P. crassirostris and O. aruensis. During the wet season, there was a distinct copepod community within the Blackmore River, dominated by Acartia sinjiensis, Oithona nishidai and Pseudodiaptomus spp. Environmental variables (nutrients and chlorophyll a) were correlated with salinity, which had the strongest influence on community structure. There was a significant drop in species richness from harbour to river sites. Small copepods of the families Paracalanidae and Oithonidae dominate tide-dominated Australian tropical estuaries, whereas copepods belonging to the family Centropagidae (such as Gladioferens spp.) appear to be characteristic of wave-dominated estuaries in southern Australia.  相似文献

Summary  Transmission M?ssbauer spectra of synthetic Ca-free P21/c Mg0.22Fe0.78SiO3 clinopyroxene were collected at temperatures in the range 4.2 to 745 K and in an external magnetic field of 60 kOe at 180 K. The magnetic order-disorder transition temperature was determined by M?ssbauer thermoscanning to be 21 ± 3 K. Above this temperature, all M?ssbauer spectra consist of a superposition of two doublets, respectively produced by Fe2+ ions at an almost regular octahedral M1 site and at a more distorted octahedral M2 site. The temperature variation of the Fe2+ center shifts were analyzed using the Debye model for the lattice vibrations. The characteristic M?ssbauer temperatures were found to be 356 K ± 35 K for M1 and 333 K ± 25 K for M2. From the external field (60 kOe) M?ssbauer spectrum recorded at 180 K, the principal component V zz of the electric field gradient (EFG) was determined to be positive for both sites but precise values for the magnitudes of the asymmetry parameters η of the EFG could not be determined. The temperature variations of the M1 and M2 quadrupole splittings ΔE Q(T ) are consistent with the higher distortion of the M2 octahedra. Using the crystal-field model to interpret ΔE Q(T ), the energy gaps δ1 and δ2 of the first excited electronic states within the 5D orbital term were estimated to be 410 ± 50 cm−1 and 730 ± 50 cm−1 for M1, and δ1 = 1050 ± 75 cm−1 for M2. The Archean Shawmere anorthosite lies within the granulite facies portion of the Kapuskasing Structural Zone (KSZ), Ontario, and is crosscut by numerous linear alteration veins containing calcite + quartz ± dolomite ± zoisite ± clinozoisite ± margarite ±paragonite ± chlorite. These veins roughly parallel the trend of the Ivanhoe Lake Cataclastic Zone. Equilibria involving clinozoisite + margarite + quartz ± calcite ± plagioclase show that the vein minerals were stable at T < 600 °C, XCO2 < 0.4 at P ≈ 6 kbar. The stabilities of margarite and paragonite in equilibrium with quartz are also consistent with T < 600 °C and XCO2 < 0.4 at 6 kbar. Additional assemblages consisting of calcite + clinochlore + quartz + talc + margarite indicate T < 500 °C with XCO2 > 0.9. Thus, vein formation, while clearly retrograde, spanned a range of temperatures, and fluid compositions evolved from H2O-rich to CO2-rich. The calcite in the retrograde veins has δ18O values that range from 8.4 to 11.2‰ (average = +9.7 ± 0.9‰) and δ13C values that range from −3.9 to −1.6‰ (average = −3.1 ± 0.6‰). These values indicate that the fluids from which calcite precipitated underwent extensive exchange with the anorthosite and other crustal lithologies. The fluids may have been initially derived either from devolatilization of metamorphic rocks or crystallization of igneous rocks in the adjacent Abitibi subprovince. Vein quartz contains CO2-rich fluid inclusions (final melting T = −57.0 to −58.7 °C) that range in size from 5 to 17 μm. Measured homogenization temperatures (T h) range from −44.0 to 14.5 °C, however for most inclusions (46 of S1), T h = −44.0 to −21.1 °C (ρCO2 ≈ 1.13 to 1.05 g/cm3). At 400 to 600 °C, these densities correspond to pressures of 3.5 to 7 kbar, which is the best estimate of pressures of vein formation. It has been argued that some high density CO2-rich fluid inclusions found in the KSZ were formed during peak metamorphism and thus document the presence of a CO2-rich fluid during peak granulite facies metamorphism (Rudnick et al. 1984). The association of high density CO2-rich fluid inclusions with clearly retrograde veins documents the formation of similar composition and density inclusions after the peak of metamorphism. Thus, the coincidence of entrapment pressures calculated from fluid inclusion density measurements with peak metamorphic pressures alone should not be considered strong evidence for peak metamorphic inclusion entrapment. All fluid inclusion results are consistent with an initially semi-isobaric retrograde PT path. Received: 2 April 1996 / Accepted: 15 November 1996  相似文献

Crustal xenoliths from basanitic dikes and necks that intruded into continental sediments of the Cretaceous Salta Rift at Quebrada de Las Conchas, Provincia Salta, Argentina were investigated to get information about the age and the chemical composition of the lower crust. Most of the xenoliths have a granitoid composition with quartz-plagioclase-garnet-rutile ± K-feldspar as major minerals. The exceedingly rare mafic xenoliths consist of plagioclase-clinopyroxene-garnet ± hornblende. All xenoliths show a well equilibrated granoblastic fabric and the minerals are compositionally unzoned. Thermobarometric calculations indicate equilibration of the mafic xenoliths in the granulite facies at temperatures of ca. 900 °C and pressures of ca. 10 kbar. The Sm-Nd mineral isochron ages are 95.1 ± 10.4 Ma, 91.5 ± 13.0 Ma, 89.0 ± 4.2 Ma (granitoid xenoliths), and 110.7 ± 23.6 Ma (mafic xenolith). These ages are in agreement with the age of basanitic volcanism (ca. 130–100 and 80–75 Ma) and are interpreted as minimum ages of metamorphism. Lower crustal temperature at the time given by the isochrons was above the closure temperature of the Sm-Nd system (>600–700 °C). The Sm-Nd and Rb-Sr isotopic signatures (147Sm/144Nd = 0.1225–0.1608; 143Nd/144Ndt 0 = 0.512000–0.512324; 87Rb/86Sr = 0.099–0.172; 87Sr/86Srt 0 = 0.708188–0.7143161) and common lead isotopic signatures (206Pb/204Pb = 18.43–18.48; 207Pb/204Pb = 15.62–15.70; 208Pb/204Pb = 38.22 –38.97) of the granitoid xenoliths are indistinguishable from the isotopic composition of the Early Paleozoic metamorphic basement from NW Argentina, apart from the lower 208Pb/204Pb ratio of the basement. The Sm-Nd depleted mantle model ages of ca. 1.8 Ga from granitoid xenoliths and Early Paleozoic basement point to a similar Proterozoic protolith. Time constraints, the well equilibrated granulite fabric, P-T conditions and lack of chemical zoning of minerals point to a high temperature in a crust of nearly normal thickness at ca. 90 Ma and to a prominent thermal anomaly in the lithosphere. The composition of the xenoliths is similar to the composition of the Early Paleozoic basement in the Andes of NW Argentina and northern Chile. A thick mafic lower crust seems unlikely considering low abundance of mafic xenoliths and the predominance of granitoid xenoliths. Received: 21 July 1998 / Accepted: 27 October 1998  相似文献

Liquidus phase relations have been experimentally determined in the systems Qz-Ab-Or-(H2O), Qz-Ab-(H2O) and Qz-Or-(H2O) at H2O-undersaturated conditions (a H2O = 0.07) and P = 5 kbar. Starting materials were homogeneous synthetic glasses containing 1 wt% H2O. The liquidus temperatures were bracketed by crystallization and dissolution experiments. The results of kinetic studies showed that crushed glasses are the best starting materials to overcome undercooling and to minimize the temperature difference between the lowest temperature of complete dissolution (melting) and the highest temperature at which crystallization can be observed. At P = 5 kbar and a H2O = 0.07, the Qz-Ab eutectic composition is Qz32Ab68 at 1095 °C (±10 °C) and the Qz-Or eutectic is Qz38Or62 at 1030 °C (±10 °C). The minimum temperature of the ternary system Qz-Ab-Or is 990 °C (±10 °C) and the minimum composition is Qz32Ab35‐ Or33. The Qz content of the minimum composition in the system Qz-Ab-Or-H2O remains constant with changing a H2O. The normative Or content, however, increases by approximately 10 wt% with decreasing a H2O from 1 to 0.07. Such an increase has already been observed in the system Qz-Ab-Or-H2O-CO2 at high a H2O and it is concluded that the use of CO2 to reduce water activities does not influence the composition of the minima in quartz-feldspar systems. The determined liquidus temperature in melts with 1 wt% H2O is very similar to that obtained in previous nominally “dry” experiments. This discrepancy is interpreted to be due to problems in obtaining absolutely dry conditions. Thus, the hitherto published solidus and liquidus temperatures for “dry” conditions are probably underestimated. Received: 27 March 1997 / Accepted: 1 October 1997  相似文献

The crystal structures of 212 experimentally synthesized, igneous clinopyroxenes were modeled from electronprobe chemical data. The coexisting melts span a wide range of petrologically relevant, dry and hydrous compositions, characterized by variable enrichment in silica and alkalis. Experimental conditions pertain to Earth's crust and uppermost mantle (P = 0–24 kbar; garnet absent) and a variety of f O2 values (from CCO-buffered to air-buffered) and mineral assemblages (Cpx ± Opx ± Pig ± Ol ± Plag ± Spl ± Mt ± Amp ± Ilm). Unit-cell volume (Vcell) versus M1-polyhedron volume (VM1) relations were investigated over a range of pressures and temperatures using data derived from structure modeling and corrected for thermal expansivity and compressibility. The relationships between pressure and clinopyroxene structural parameters were found to be dependent on the nature of the coexisting melt. To reduce compositional effects, only clinopyroxenes belonging to mildly alkaline (MA) and tholeiitic (TH) series were considered. Pressure was modeled as a linear function of Vcell, VM1, and Mg/(Mg + Fe2+)Cpx ratio. A calibration based on the whole data set (MA+ TH) reproduced the experimental pressures within 1.4 kbar at the 1-σ level. The maximum residuals were 3.5 kbar and 3.9 kbar for MA- and TH-clinopyroxenes, respectively. Better statistics were obtained by considering MA- and TH-clinopyroxenes separately. A calibration based on the 69 MA-clinopyroxenes reproduced the experimental pressures within 1.1 kbar (1σ) and with a maximum residual of 2.7 kbar. A calibration based on the 143 TH-clinopyroxenes reproduced the experimental pressures within 1.0 kbar (1σ) and with a maximum residual of 3.4 kbar. When these geobarometers are applied to natural samples for which P is unknown, the correction for compressibility is necessarily made through a trial-and-error procedure. This expedient propagates an additional error that increases the above uncertainties and residuals by a factor of about 2. Applications to natural, igneous rocks for which the pressures of crystallization could be constrained based on experimental, petrological or geological evidence yielded pressure estimates that reproduced the expected values to within ca. 2 kbar. Compared to the MA-formulation, the TH-formulation appears to be less robust to variations in magma composition. When applied to high-pressure (>10 kbar) clinopyroxenes synthesized from very low Na (Na2O < 1.5%) melts, the latter geobarometer can underestimate P by as much as 6 kbar. Calculation of P through the present geobarometers requires clinopyroxene major-element composition and an independent, accurate estimate of crystallization T. Underestimating T by 20 °C propagates into a 1-kbar increase in calculated P. The proposed geobarometers are incorporated in the CpxBar software program, which is designed to retrieve the pressure of crystallization from a clinopyroxene chemical analysis. The breakdown of potassium feldspar at high water pressures   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The equilibrium position of the reaction between sanidine and water to form “sanidine hydrate” has been determined by reversal experiments on well characterised synthetic starting materials in a piston cylinder apparatus. The reaction was found to lie between four reversed brackets of 2.35 and 2.50 GPa at 450 °C, 2.40 and 2.59 GPa at 550 °C, 2.67 and 2.74 GPa at 650 °C, and 2.70 and 2.72 GPa at 680 °C. Infrared spectroscopy showed that the dominant water species in sanidine hydrate was structural H2O. The minimum quantity of this structural H2O, measured by thermogravimetric analysis, varied between 4.42 and 5.85 wt% over the pressure range of 2.7 to 3.2 GPa and the temperature range of 450 to 680 °C. Systematic variation in water content with pressure and temperature was not clearly established. The maximum value was below 6.07 wt%, the equivalent of 1 molecule of H2O per formula unit. The water could be removed entirely by heating at atmospheric pressure to produce a metastable, anhydrous, hexagonal KAlSi3O8 phase (“hexasanidine”) implying that the structural H2O content of sanidine hydrate can vary. The unit cell parameters for sanidine hydrate, measured by powder X-ray diffraction, were a = 0.53366 (±0.00022) nm and c = 0.77141 (±0.00052) nm, and those for hexasanidine were a = 0.52893 (±0.00016) nm and c = 0.78185 (±0.00036) nm. The behaviour and properties of sanidine hydrate appear to be analogous to those of the hydrate phase cymrite in the equivalent barium system. The occurrence of sanidine hydrate in the Earth would be limited to high pressure but very low temperature conditions and hence it could be a potential reservoir for water in cold subduction zones. However, sanidine hydrate would probably be constrained to granitic rock compositions at these pressures and temperatures. Received: 6 May 1997 / Accepted: 2 October 1997  相似文献

The origin of monzonitic intrusions that are associated with Proterozoic massif-type anorthosite complexes is controversial. A detailed oxygen isotope study of the Sybille intrusion, a monzonitic intrusion of the Laramie Anorthosite Complex (Wyoming), indicates that either derivation from a basaltic magma of mantle origin with a metasedimentary component (∼20%) incorporated early in its magmatic history, or a partial melt of lower crustal rocks is consistent with the data. The oxygen isotope compositions of plagioclase, pyroxene and zircon from the Sybille monzosyenite, the dominant rock type in the Sybille intrusion, were analyzed in order to establish the isotopic composition of the source of the magma. Plagioclase δ18O values range from 6.77 to 9.17‰. We interpret the higher plagioclase δ18O values (average 8.69 ± 0.30‰, n = 19) to be magmatic in origin, lower plagioclase δ18O values (average 7.51 ± 0.44‰, n = 22) to be the result of variable subsolidus alteration, and pyroxene δ18O values (average 6.34 ± 0.38‰, n = 19) to be the result of closed-system diffusional exchange during cooling. Low magnetic zircons, which have been shown to retain magmatic oxygen isotope values despite high grade metamorphism and extensive subsolidus hydrothermal alteration, have δ18O values (7.40 ± 0.24‰, n = 11) which are consistent with our interpretation of the plagioclase and pyroxene results. Oxygen isotope data from all three minerals indicate that the magmatic oxygen isotope composition of the Sybille intrusion is enriched in 18O relative to the composition of average or “normal” mantle-derived magmas. This enrichment is approximately twice the oxygen isotope enrichment that could result from closed-system fractionation, rendering a closed-system, comag- matic petrogenetic model between the Sybille intrusion and the mantle-derived anorthositic lithologies of the Laramie Anorthosite Complex improbable. The Géant Dormant gold mine is a sulfide-rich quartz vein gold deposit hosted by a volcano-sedimentary sequence and an associated felsic endogenous dome and dikes. The auriferous quartz-sulfide veins were preceded by two synvolcanic gold-bearing mineralizing events: early sulfidic seafloor-related and later disseminated pyrite in the felsic dome. This deposit differs from classical Archean auriferous quartz vein deposits by the low carbonate and high sulfide contents of the veins and by their formation prior to ductile penetrative deformation. The δ18O values of quartz associated with seafloor-related auriferous sulfides average 11.9 ± 0.6‰ (n = 3). The seafloor hydrothermal fluids had a δ18O value of 3.2‰ calculated at 250 °C. The oxygen isotope composition of quartz and chlorite from veins average 12.5 ± 0.3‰ (n = 20) and 5.9 ± 1.1‰ (n = 4) respectively. Assuming oxygen isotope equilibrium between quartz and chlorite, the veins formed at a temperature of ∼275 °C, which is consistent with the calculated temperature of 269 ± 10 °C from chlorite chemistry. The gold-bearing fluids had a δ18O value of 4.7‰ calculated at 275 °C. The δ34S values of sulfides from the three gold events range from 0.6 to 2.8‰ (n = 32) and are close to magmatic values. Sulfur isotope geothermometry constrains the sulfide precipitation in the gold-bearing veins at a temperature of ∼350 °C. The similarity of the isotope data, the calculated δ18O of the mineralizing fluids and the likely seawater fluid source suggest that the three mineralizing events are genetically related to a volcanogenic hydrothermal system. The high value of the auriferous fluids (δ18O = 4.7‰) is attributed to a significant magmatic fluid contribution to the evolved seawater-dominated convective hydrothermal system. The two-stage filling of veins at increasing temperature from quartz-chlorite (275 °C) to sulfides (350 °C) may reflect the progressive maturation of volcanogenic hydrothermal systems. These results, together with field and geochemical data, suggest that formation of gold-rich volcanogenic systems require specific conditions that comprise a magmatic fluid contribution and gold from arc-related felsic rocks, coeval with the mineralizing events. This study shows that some auriferous quartz-vein orebodies in Archean terranes are formed in volcanogenic rather than mesothermal systems. Granites and primary tin mineralization in the Erzgebirge were dated using (1) conventional U–Pb dating of uraninite inclusions in mica, (2) Rb–Sr dating of inclusions in quartz that represent highly evolved melts, (3) Re–Os dating of magmatic–hydrothermal molybdenite, and (4) chemical Th–U–Pb dating of uraninite. Conventional isotope dilution and thermal ion mass spectrometry and chemical Th–U–Pb dating of uraninite in granites from the Ehrenfriedersdorf mining district provide ages of 323.9 ± 3.5 Ma (2σ; Greifenstein granite) and 320.6 ± 1.9 and 319.7 ± 3.4 Ma (2σ, both Sauberg mine), in agreement with U–Pb apatite ages of 323.9 ± 2.9 and 317.3 ± 1.6 Ms (2σ, both Sauberg mine). Rb–Sr analysis of melt inclusions from Zinnwald gives highly radiogenic Sr isotopic compositions that, with an assumed initial Sr isotopic composition, permit calculation of precise ages from single inclusions. The scatter of the data indicates that some quartz-hosted melt inclusions have been affected by partial loss of fluid exsolved from the melt inclusion. Re–Os dating of two molybdenite samples from Altenberg provides ages of 323.9 ± 2.5 and 317.9 ± 2.4 Ma (2σ). Together with age data from the literature, our new ages demonstrate that primary tin mineralization and the emplacement of the large Sn-specialized granites in the Erzgebirge fall in a narrow range between 318 and 323 Ma. Primary Sn mineralization occurred within a short interval during post-collisional collapse of the Variscan orogen and was essentially synchronous over the entire Erzgebirge. In contrast to earlier claims, no systematic age difference between granites of the eastern and western Erzgebirge was established. Furthermore, our data do not support a large age range for Late-Variscan granites of the Erzgebirge (330–290 Ma), as has been previously suggested.  相似文献

Ion microprobe (SHRIMP) dating was carried out on different zircon domains from metamorphic rocks of the HP-HT terrane of central Rhodope, northern Greece, to constrain the timing of prograde and retrograde stages within a single tectono-metamorphic cycle. A well determined P-T-t(relative) path for the metamorphic rocks of this terrane was used as a petrological basis for the geochronological investigations. Ion microprobe work was assisted by cathodoluminescence (CL) images of the zircon crystals. The geochronological results revealed that Hercynian continental crust was subducted during the Eocene. Several stages of the Eocene tectono-metamorphic cycle – including both the prograde and retrograde parts of the P-T path above ca 300 °C, 0.3 GPa – were dated using zircons from the following rock types: (1) A deformed quartz vein probably formed at ca 300 °C, 0.3 GPa. Zircons in this vein precipitated from a hydrothermal fluid; they yielded an age of 45.3 ± 0.9 Ma which corresponds to the time of a low-T prograde stage of metamorphism. (2) In kyanite eclogites, zircons were entirely reset during eclogite-facies metamorphism. Resetting was very probably enhanced by the presence of fluids derived by H2O liberating reactions close to the P-peak. They yielded an age of 42.2 ± 0.9 Ma. (3) Orthogneisses surrounding the kyanite eclogites contained zircons with magmatic oscillatory zoned cores, which yielded Hercynian ages of 294 ± 8 Ma (age of granitic protolith formation), whereas CL-bright, metamorphic rims yielded, like the eclogite zircons, ages of 42.0 ± 1.1 Ma. Therefore, both the eclogites and orthogneisses are interpreted to have approached maximum depth at around 42 Ma. (4) In a leucosome of a migmatized orthogneiss, oscillatory zoned zircons yielded an age of 40.0 ± 1.0 Ma. At this time the rocks reached maximum temperatures during early decompression. (5) A late pegmatite crosscutting the schistosity of amphibolites contained oscillatory zoned zircons that yielded a crystallization age of 36.1 ± 1.2 Ma. Thus, the whole tectono-metamorphic cycle above ca 300 °C, 0.3 GPa lasted from 45.3 ± 0.9 Ma to 36.1 ± 1.2 Ma, that is 9.2 Ma with an extreme error value of 2.1 Ma. Based on combined SHRIMP and petrological data, the average rates of heating and burial during subduction (above ca 300 °C, 0.3 GPa) are >94 °C/Ma and >15 mm/a, respectively. Rates of cooling and exhumation (also above 300 °C, 0.3 GPa) are calculated to be >128° C/Ma and >7.7 mm/a. The Eocene age of metamorphism in central Rhodope implies that the terrane of, at least, central Rhodope and the Cyclades very probably was part of the same continental crust. Phase relations and metamorphic conditions have been studied in metacarbonate rocks from the Nevado-Filábride Complex (Cordilleras Béticas) through forward modeling. In many rock samples, the assemblage titanite + rutile + calcite + quartz + graphite buffered the composition of the C-O-H fluid present during metamorphism. Over a wide range of P-T conditions, fluid compositions computed for this buffer are essentially binary H2O-CO2 mixtures. This buffer also constrains the chemical potentials of TiO2, CaO and SiO2. Consequently it is possible to make a thermodynamic projection through these components to predict the stable phase relations consistent with the buffer. Using this method, phase relations have been analyzed in a rock containing the buffer assemblage and paragonite, albite, phengite, epidote, and chlorite. The equilibrium P-T conditions for this assemblage are constrained, by minimization of the differences between predicted and observed mineral compositions, to be 560 ± 15 °C and 9.5 ± 1 kbar. Conditions obtained compare well with those estimated from other studies in different lithologic units. The inferred metamorphic fluid composition is H2O-rich ().
