We present an analysis of the Hipparcos and ASAS photometry of the W UMa star EL Aqr. The Wilson-Devinney code is employed in conjunction with recent spectroscopic mass ratio of 0.203 to model the V band light curve. We confirm that the system is an A type contact binary however our analysis suggests that it is over massive for its spectral class and has a relatively high fillout of 44%. We determine the atmospheric parameters of the secondary in the close binary system FF Aqr and analyze its chemical composition. A series of high-resolution spectra are taken at different orbital phases using the coude echelle spectrometer of the 1.5-m Russian-Turkish Telescope (RTT150). We show that the absorption line intensity of heavy elements varies with phase due to the spotty nature of the cool component. We determine the abundances of heavy elements in the star’s atmosphere by modelling the synthetic spectra and performing a differential analysis of the chemical composition of FF Aqr relative to the solar composition. Our analysis of the averaged spectrum of FF Aqr yielded 539 abundance estimates for 21 chemical elements. We found the metallicity of the star ([Fe/H] = −0.11 ± 0.08) to be close solar, in agreement with the hypothesis that FF Aqr should belong to the Galactic disk. The inferred chemical composition of the objects exhibits no anomalous abundances of the α-, r-, and s-process elements like those earlier found in other systems (IN Com, LW Hya, V471 Tau). The lack of such anomalies in FF Aqr must be due to the fact that the elements heavier than 16 O cannot be synthesized in the core of the primary during the last stages of its evolution.  相似文献

This paper presents detailed analysis of photometric observations of two eclipsing binary systems, DD Aqr and RR Lep. The V light curve of the neglected binary star DD Aqr from the All Sky Automated Survey was solved for the first time. The 1982–1987 UBV light curves of RR Lep from Vyas and Abhyankar (1989) were re-analysed. The final solutions give these two β Lyr-type binary stars as having near contact configurations in which the secondary components almost fill their Roche limiting lobes. Using O-C residuals formed by the updated minima times, orbital period changes of the systems were analysed. The O-C diagram of DD Aqr displays a cyclic variation, while that of RR Lep shows a quasi-sinusoidal variation superimposed on a downward parabolic form. The parabolic variation, which suggests a secular orbital period decrease in RR Lep, was interpreted in terms of the combined effect of mass transfer and loss. The cyclic O-C variations were interpreted in terms of the light travel time effect due to unseen components in these two systems. The absolute parameters of the components of the systems were estimated, and their present evolutionary status is also discussed.  相似文献

We present ultraviolet spectra of the AE Aqr binary system taken by the International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) during the period from 1978 to 1993, to accomplish a large scale study of what happens to the ultraviolet fluxes of different emission lines during different orbital phases. Five profiles of AE Aqr binary system show variations of line fluxes at different orbital phases are presented. We concentrated on studying N V emission line at 1240 Å, O I emission line at 1306 Å, He II emission line at 1640 Å, N III emission line at 1749 Å and Si III emission line at 1892 Å, produced in the line emitting gas (Eracleous et al., 1994, Eracleous and Horne, 1996), by calculating the line fluxes of these spectral lines. Our results show that there are spectral variations of line fluxes for the aforementioned emission lines at different times, similar to the light curves found for AE Aqr binary system by using ASCA, XMM – Newton and Chandra X-ray observations (Mauche, 2006). We attributed these spectral variations to the variations of the mass-transfer rate (Ikhsanov et al., 2004) and to the collisions between the compact blobs and the fluffy blobs, where the collisions are supersonic, shocking the gas, causing heating, then expansion (Eracleous et al., 1994, Eracleous and Horne, 1996, Horne, 2009).  相似文献

An investigation of the orbital period changes of the neglected eclipsing binaries, RY Aqr, SZ Her, RV Lyr and V913 Oph, is presented based on all published minima times. Although the explanation of magnetic activity on the surface of the secondaries of the studied Algols is still open, the preferred light‐time effect due to the unseen components around the systems seems more plausible in explaining the tilted sinusoidal variations with relatively high‐amplitudes. The minimal mass values of possible tertiary components have been estimated to be about 1.06, 0.25, 0.78 and 2.85 M for RY Aqr, SZ Her, RV Lyr and V913 Oph, respectively and the results indicate that their contributions to the total light of the eclipsing pairs are measurable with high accuracy photometric and spectroscopic data, if they exist. Applegate's (1992) model has been discussed as an alternative mechanism assuming that the cooler components have magnetic cycles. It is found that the model parameters of RY Aqr and V913 Oph are consistent with the required values in Applegate's model. In addition to the first detailed orbital study on these systems, a statistical survey on the character of the OC variations of classical Algols has revealed that about 50 percent of the systems show cyclic behavior. Multicolor photometric observations of the W UMa binaries CSS J113505.5+332031, ASAS J142124+1813.1 and HR Boo are presented. They led to improvement of the orbital periods of CSS J113505.5+332031 and HR Boo. The light curve solutions revealed that all the targets are overcontact binaries with moderate fill-out factors whose components are of G and K spectral types. ASAS J142124+1813.1 and HR Boo undergo total eclipses and their mass ratios are well-determined. The small mass ratio of ASAS J142124+1813.1 puts this target in the list of W UMa binaries with extreme low mass ratios. The possible solutions for the partially-eclipsed binary CSS J113505.5+332031 and their precision are discussed in detail. Masses, radii and luminosities of the target components were estimated by our light curve solutions and GAIA distances.  相似文献

We present a Roche tomography reconstruction of the secondary star in the cataclysmic variable AE Aqr. The tomogram reveals several surface inhomogeneities that are due to the presence of large, cool star-spots. In addition to a number of lower latitude spots, the maps also show the presence of a large, high-latitude spot similar to that seen in Doppler images of rapidly rotating isolated stars, and a relative paucity of spots at a latitude of 40°. In total, we estimate that some 18 per cent of the Northern hemisphere of AE Aqr is spotted.
We have also applied the entropy landscape technique to determine accurate parameters for the binary system. We obtain optimal masses   M 1= 0.74 M, M 2= 0.50 M  , a systemic velocity  γ=−63 km s−1  and an orbital inclination   i = 66°  .
Given that this is the first study to successfully image star-spots on the secondary star in a cataclysmic variable, we discuss the role that further studies of this kind may play in our understanding of these binaries.  相似文献

The apsidal motion analysis of the eccentric eclipsing binaries: V397 Cep, V493 Car and BW Aqr have been presented. The method described by Lacy (1992) [Lacy, C.H S., 1992. AJ 104, 2213] has been used for the apsidal motion analysis. The apsidal motion periods have been found to be 174.2 ± 1.4, 277.3 ± 21.3 and 7195 ± 174 years for V397 Cep, V493 Car and BW Aqr, respectively.  相似文献

We present the results of searching for new candidates of eclipsing binaries with eccentric orbits in the ASAS Catalog of Variable Stars (ACVS) using publicly available data from the All Sky Automated Survey (ASAS) and the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). Unsupervised machine learning techniques were applied to find anomalies among the light curves of eclipsing binaries. The light curves modeling were performed using JKTEBOP code. The pulsation analysis was done with FAMIAS. We identified 19 new eclipsing binary candidates with non-zero eccentricities in the ACVS, including 10 candidates with eccentricities e ≥ 0.1. Estimates of eccentricities are given. We also report on possible presence of the small-amplitude stellar pulsations at least in two of the reported systems.  相似文献

We present a set of Roche tomography reconstructions of the secondary stars in the cataclysmic variables AM Her, QQ Vul, IP Peg and HU Aqr. The image reconstructions show distinct asymmetries in the irradiation pattern for all four systems that can be attributed to shielding of the secondary star by the accretion stream/column in AM Her, QQ Vul and HU Aqr, and increased irradiation by the bright-spot in IP Peg. We use the entropy landscape technique to derive accurate system parameters (   M 1, M 2  , i and γ) for the four binaries. In principle, this technique should provide the most reliable mass determinations available, since the intensity distribution across the secondary star is known. We also find that the intensity distribution can systematically affect the value of γ derived from circular orbit fits to radial velocity variations.  相似文献

Taking advantage of the very precise de Jager et al. optical white dwarf orbit and spin ephemerides; ASCA , XMM–Newton and Chandra X-ray observations spread over 10 yr; and a cumulative 27-yr baseline, we have found that in recent years the white dwarf in AE Aqr is spinning down at a rate that is slightly faster than predicted by the de Jager et al. spin ephemeris. At the present time, the observed period evolution is consistent with either a cubic term in the spin ephemeris with     , which is inconsistent in sign and magnitude with magnetic dipole radiation losses, or an additional quadratic term with     , which is consistent with a modest increase in the accretion torques spinning down the white dwarf. Regular monitoring, in the optical, ultraviolet and/or X-rays, is required to track the evolution of the spin period of the white dwarf in AE Aqr.  相似文献

We have started a spectroscopic survey to identify new chromospherically active components and low-mass pre-main sequence (PMS) stars in recently discovered All Sky Automated Survey (ASAS) eclipsing binaries. In this paper, we briefly describe our scientific motivation, the observing tools and the results obtained from the first phase of this survey. Using the available observing facilities in India, the spectroscopic observations of a sample of 180 candidate eclipsing binary stars selected from ASAS-I&II releases were carried out during 2004–2006. The strength of Hα emission was used to characterize the level of chromospheric activity. Our spectroscopic survey reveals that out of 180 stars about 36 binary systems show excess Hα emission. One of the objects in our sample, ASAS 081700-4243.8, displays very strong Hα emission. Follow-up high-resolution spectroscopic observations reveal that this object is indeed very interesting and most likely a classical Be-type system with K0III companion.  相似文献

A 16-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope on the campus of Naresuan University of Thailand and several similar-size telescopes in China equipped with CCD cameras were used to observe 14 high amplitude delta Scuti stars: GP And, CY Aqr, BS Aqr, YZ Boo, AD CMi, VZ Cnc, EH Lib, DY Her, V927 Her, KZ Hya, BE Lyn, V1162 Ori, DY Peg, and CW Ser, between the years 1999 and 2010. Data were also collected from scientific journals and sources on the Internet for these variable stars. Times of light maximum of these delta Scuti stars were then either determined from the observations or obtained from the literature to analyze the pulsation period variations. For the 14 delta Scuti stars we concluded that 7 stars (BS Aqr, CY Aqr, AD CMi, EH Lib, KZ Hya, BE Lyn and DY Peg) are binary or multiple systems. 10 delta Scuti stars are found with periods increasing with rates between 5.86×10−9 and 2.34×10−6 per year and the other 4 stars (BS Aqr, DY Her, BE Lyn and DY Peg) show periods decreasing with rates of about 10−9 to 10−8 per year.  相似文献

New complete light and radial velocities curves were obtained for the eclipsing binaries CC Her and CM Lac. The data are analysed with modern techniques in order to derive the physical parameters of the systems and study their present evolutionary status. We found that CC Her is a classical Algol type binary, while CM Lac is a detached system with two Main Sequence stars in asynchronous orbit.  相似文献

A catalog of W UMa type eclipsing binary systems with tertiary components based on eclipse timing diagrams is presented listing the physical and orbital parameters (including third body parameters) of 150 W UMa type eclipsing binaries.In this study, the (O–C) diagrams of nine sample W UMa type eclipsing binary systems, based on the most reliable timings of minima in the literature, are analyzed to obtain the third-body parameters and significant statistical results are presented from the data in the catalog.  相似文献
