An analysis of a two-dimensional steady-free convection and mass transfer flow of an incompressible, viscous, and electrically conductive non-Newtonian fluid through a porous medium bounded by a vertical infinite limiting surface (plane wall) has been presented in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. Approximate solutions to the coupled nonlinear equations governing the flow are derived and expression for the velocity, temperature, concentration, the rate of heat transfer, and the skin-friction are derived. Effects of Gr (Grashof number), Gm (modified Grashof number),M * (non-Newtonian parameter),N (magnetic parameter), and permeabilityK of the porous medium on the velocity, the skin-friction and the rate of heat transfer are discussed when the surface is subjected to a constant suction velocity.  相似文献

The paper examines the evolutionary behaviour of acceleration waves in a perfectly conducting inviscid radiating gas permeated by a transverse magnetic field. Solution of the problem in the characteristic plane has been determined. It is shown that a linear solution in the characteristic plane exhibits nonlinear behaviour in the physical plane. Transport equation governing the behaviour of acceleration waves has been derived. The effect of radiative heat transfer under the influence of magnetic field on the formation of shock wave with generalized geometry is analyzed. The critical amplitude of the initial disturbance has been obtained such that the initial amplitude of any compressive wave greater than the critical one always terminates into shock wave. Critical time, when the compressive wave will grow into a shock wave, has been determined. Also, it is assessed as to how the radiative heat transfer in the presence of magnetic field affects the shock formation.  相似文献

An analytical study is performed to examine the heat source characteristics on the free-convection and mass transfer flow past an impulsively started infinite non-conducting vertical plate of a viscous, incompressible electrically-conducting fluid under the action of a uniform magnetic field through porous medium. The effects of various parameters on the velocity field are extensively discussed.  相似文献

The problem of magnetohydrodynamic free-convection flow, with radiative heat transfer in porour media subject to time-dependent suction of an incompressible and optically transparent medium has been solved making fairly realistic assumption. For a small-time-dependent perturbation of the fluid velocity and temperatures, the nonlinear problem is tackled by asymptotic approximation, giving solutions for steady-flow on which a first-order transient component is superimposed. The effect of heat radiation and free convection on the flow of the fluid is demonstrated analytically and quantitatively. The flow field is seen to be affected mainly by radiation and convection parameters, in addition to the porosity and magnetic factors.  相似文献

We investigate the growth of jet plus entrained mass in simulations of supermagnetosonic cylindrical and expanding jets. The entrained mass spatially grows in three stages: from an initially slow spatial rate to a faster rate and finally at a flatter rate. These stages roughly coincide with the similar rates of expansion in simulated radio intensity maps, and also appear related to the growth of the Kelvin–Helmholtz instability through linear, nonlinear, and saturated regimes. In the supermagnetosonic cylindrical jets, we found that a jet with an embedded primarily toroidal magnetic field is more stable than a jet with a primarily axial magnetic field. Also, pressure-matched expanding jets are more stable and entrain less mass than cylindrical jets with equivalent inlet conditions. Analytical study is performed to examine heat and mass transfer characteristics of natural convection flow of an incompressible, rarefied visco-elastic fluid past an infinite vertical porous plate with constant suction in the presence of transverse magnetic field under combined buoyancy force effects of thermal and mass diffusion. The effects of various parameters on mean velocity and mean skin-friction are shown graphically followed by a comparative study of Newtonian and non-Newtonian (visco-elastic). rarefied states.  相似文献

An analysis of a two-dimensional steady free convective flow of a conducting fluid, in the presence of a magnetic field and a foreign mass past an infinite, vertical porous and unmoving surface is carried out, when we have constant heat flux at the limiting surface and the magnetic Reynolds number of the flow is not small. If we assume constant suction at the surface, approximate solutions of coupled nonlinear equations are derived for the velocity field, temperature field, magnetic field and for their related quantities. During the course of discussion, the effectsM (magnetic parameter),Gr (Grashof number), andGm (modified Grashof number) have been presented.  相似文献

Rotation effect on the hydromagnetic free-convection flow of an electrically conducting, viscous, and incompressible fluid past a steadily moving vertical porous plate has been analysed in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. The free-stream velocity oscillates in time about a constant mean, while the suction velocity, normal to the porous plate, is constant. The magnetic Reynolds number of the flow is taken small enough so that the induced magnetic field can be neglected. The plate temperature is constant and the difference between the temperature of the plate and the free stream is moderately large causing the free-convection currents. The flow field is described by nonlinar coupled system of equations. With viscous dissipative heat taken into account, approximate solutions of the problem are obtained for the components of velocity field and temperature field as well as for the skin-friction components and rate of heat transfer.  相似文献

An exact similarity solution is presented for developing mixed convection flows of electrically conducting fluids over a semi-infinite horizontal plate with vectored mass transfer at the wall which are subjected to an applied transverse magnetic field. This solution is given for the case of a wall temperature that is inversely proportional to the square root of the distance from the leading edge. By application of appropriate coordinate transformations, the governing momentum and energy boundary-layer equations are expressed as a set of coupled ordinary differential equations that depend on a magnetic parameter, the buoyancy parameter, and the Prandtl number. The shear stress, the total heat transfer, and the displacement thickness are calculated for different values of both buoyancy and magnetic parameters.  相似文献

Hall effects on the hydromagnetic free convection resulting from the combined effects of thermal and mass diffusion of an electrically conducting liquid past an infinite vertical porous plate in a rotating system have been analysed. The expressions for the mean velocity, mean temperature in the boundary layer and the mean skin friction, the mean rate of heat transfer on the plate are derived. The effects of magnetic parameterM, Hall parameterm, Schmidt number Sc, and Ekman numberE on the flow field, are discussed with the help of graphs and tables.  相似文献

The white dwarf in AM Her systems is strongly magnetic and keeps in synchronous rotation with the orbit by magnetic coupling to the secondary star. As the latter evolves through mass loss to a cool, degenerate brown dwarf it can no longer sustain its own magnetic field and coupling is lost. Angular momentum accreted then spins up the white dwarf and the system no longer appears as an AM Her system. Possible consequences are run-away mass transfer and mass ejection from the system. Some of the unusual cataclysmic variable systems at low orbital periods may be the outcome of this evolution.  相似文献

We present an analytical model to explore the magnetic field turbulent spectrum by coupled high-frequency kinetic Alfvén wave (KAW) and slow mode of Alfvén wave (AW). The spectrum is computed as a realization of energy cascades from larger to smaller scales for a specific case of solar wind plasma at 1 AU. A two-fluid technique is implemented for the derivation of model equations leading two wave modes. These coupled, nonlinear equations are solved numerically. The nonlinearity in the system arises due to nonlinear ponderomotive force, which is believed to be responsible for the wave localization and magnetic islands formation. The numerical results show that the magnetic islands grow with time and attain a quasi-steady state after the modulation instability is saturated. The magnetic field spectrum and associated spectral indices are computed near the time of saturation of instability. The simulated spectrum in dispersion region follows a power-law with an index of ?2.5. The steeper spectrum could be attributed as energy transfer from larger to smaller scales and helps to study turbulence in solar wind. The magnetic field spectrum and spectral index show a good agreement with the observation of solar wind turbulent spectra.  相似文献

The flow of an electrically conducting incompressible rarefied gas due to the combined buoyancy effects of thermal and mass diffusion past an infinite vertical porous plate with constant suction has been studied in the presence of uniform transverse magnetic field. The problem has been solved for velocity, temperature, and concentration fields. It has been observed that mean velocity and the mean temperature are affected by the Grashof numbersG 1 andG 2, the slip parameterh 1, temperature jump coefficienth 2, concentration jump coefficienth 3 and magnetic field parameterM. The amplitude and the phase of skin-friction and the rate of heat transfer are affected by frequency in addition to the above parameters. They are shown graphically. The numerical values of the mean skin-friction and the mean rate of heat transfer are also tabulated.  相似文献

The paper considers the fully-developed slip flow in a vertical channel with radiative heat transfer and mass transfer in the presence of an externally applied magnetic field. The problem is modelled by the compressible Navier-Stokes equations, so that the gas is only slightly rarefied. Invoking the exact integral equation for radiation, the problem is reduced to a set of ordinary integro-differential equations. By realistic assumptions, the set is linearized and the temperature is reduced to a mixed Fredholm-Volterra integral equation which is solved by standard iterative procedure. Thereafter the concentration equation is solved by the WKB approximation while the velocity is obtained by the finite difference scheme. These solutions are discussed qualitatively.  相似文献

Measurements of magnetic fields and electric currents in the pre-eruptive corona are crucial to the study of solar eruptive phenomena, like flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs). However, spectro-polarimetric measurements of certain photospheric lines permit a determination of the vector magnetic field only at the photosphere. Therefore, there is considerable interest in accurate modeling of the solar coronal magnetic field using photospheric vector magnetograms as boundary data. In this work, we model the coronal magnetic field above multiple active regions with the help of a potential field and a nonlinear force-free field (NLFFF) extrapolation code over the full solar disk using Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (SDO/HMI) data as boundary conditions. We compare projections of the resulting magnetic field lines with full-disk coronal images from the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (SDO/AIA) for both models. This study has found that the NLFFF model reconstructs the magnetic configuration closer to observation than the potential field model for full-disk magnetic field extrapolation. We conclude that many of the trans-equatorial loops connecting the two solar hemispheres are current-free.  相似文献

Solar eruptive phenomena, like flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs), are governed by magnetic fields. To describe the structure of these phenomena one needs information on the magnetic flux density and the electric current density vector components in three dimensions throughout the atmosphere. However, current spectro-polarimetric measurements typically limit the determination of the vector magnetic field to only the photosphere. Therefore, there is considerable interest in accurate modeling of the solar coronal magnetic field using photospheric vector magnetograms as boundary data. In this work, we model the coronal magnetic field for global solar atmosphere using nonlinear force-free field (NLFFF) extrapolation codes implemented to a synoptic maps of photospheric vector magnetic field synthesized from the Vector Spectromagnetograph (VSM) on Synoptic Optical Long-term Investigations of the Sun (SOLIS) as boundary condition. Using the resulting three-dimensional magnetic field, we calculate the three-dimensional electric current density and magnetic energy throughout the solar atmosphere for Carrington rotation 2124 using our global extrapolation code. We found that spatially, the low-lying, current-carrying core field demonstrates a strong concentration of free energy in the active-region core, from the photosphere to the lower corona (about 70 Mm). The free energy density appears largely co-spatial with the electric current distribution.  相似文献

The present work applies the method of characteristics to study the behaviour of planar and cylindrical wave-heads propagating through a perfectly electrically conducting and thermally radiating inviscid gas under the optically thin limit in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. The true nonlinear progress of the flow variable gradients at the wavefront is predicted and the critical distance at which the characteristics pile up at the wavefront to form a shock wave is obtained. It is investigated as to how the effects of radiative flux, the magnetic field strength and the specific heat ratio influence the process of steepening or flattening of the characteristic wavefront.  相似文献

We present a parameter study of simulations of fragmentation regulated by gravity, magnetic fields, ambipolar diffusion, and nonlinear flows. The thin-sheet approximation is employed with periodic lateral boundary conditions, and the nonlinear flow field (“turbulence”) is allowed to freely decay. In agreement with previous results in the literature, our results show that the onset of runaway collapse (formation of the first star) in subcritical clouds is significantly accelerated by nonlinear flows in which a large-scale wave mode dominates the power spectrum. In addition, we find that a power spectrum with equal energy on all scales also accelerates collapse, but by a lesser amount. For a highly super-Alfvénic initial velocity field with most power on the largest scales, the collapse occurs promptly during the initial compression wave. However, for trans-Alfvénic perturbations, a subcritical magnetic field causes a rebound from the initial compression, and the system undergoes several oscillations before runaway collapse occurs. Models that undergo prompt collapse have highly supersonic infall motions at the core boundaries. Cores in magnetically subcritical models with trans-Alfvénic initial perturbations also pick up significant systematic speeds by inheriting motions associated with magnetically-driven oscillations. Core mass distributions are much broader than in models with small-amplitude initial perturbations, although the disturbed structure of cores that form due to nonlinear flows does not guarantee subsequent monolithic collapse. Our simulations also demonstrate that significant power (if present initially) can be maintained with negligible dissipation in large-scale compressive modes of a magnetic thin sheet, in the limit of perfect flux freezing.  相似文献
