The Fe3+/Fetot of all Fe-bearing minerals has been analysed by Mössbauer spectroscopy in a suite of biotite-rich to biotite-free graphitic metapelite xenoliths, proxies of an amphibolite-granulite transition through progressive biotite melting. Biotite contains 9 to 16% Fe3+/Fetot, whereas garnet, cordierite and ilmenite are virtually Fe3+ -free (0–1% Fe3+/Fetot) in all samples, regardless of biotite presence. Under relatively reducing conditions (graphite-bearing assemblages), biotite is the only carrier of Fe3+ during high-temperature metamorphism; therefore, its disappearance by melting represents an important event of iron reduction during granulite formation, because haplogranitic melts usually incorporate small amounts of ferric iron. Iron reduction is accompanied by the oxidation of carbon and the production of CO2, according to the redox reaction:
Depending on the nature of the peritectic Fe-Mg mineral produced (garnet, cordierite, orthopyroxene), the CO2 can either be present as a free fluid component, or be completely stored within melt and cordierite. The oxidation of graphite by iron reduction can account for the in situ generation of CO2, implying a consequential rather than causal role of CO2 in some granulites and migmatites. This genetic model is relevant to graphitic rocks more generally and may explain why CO2 is present in some granulites although it is not required for their formation.  相似文献

Comparison of polarized optical absorption spectra of natural Ca-rich diopsides and synthetic NaCrSi2O6 and LiCrSi2O6 clinopyroxenes, evidences as vivid similarities, as noticeable differences. The similarities reflect the fact that in all cases Cr3+ enters the small octahedral M1-site of the clinopyroxene structure. The differences are due to some iron content in the natural samples causing broad intense near infrared bands of electronic spin-allowed dd transitions of Fe2+(M1, M2) and intervalence Fe2+/Fe3+ charge-transfer transition, and by different symmetry and different local crystal fields strength of Cr3+ in the crystal structures. The positions of the spin-allowed bands of Cr3+, especially of the low energy one caused by the electronic 4 A 2g → 2 T 1g transition, are found to be in accordance with mean M1–O distances. The local relaxation parameter ε calculated for limCr 3+ → 0 from the spectra and interatomic á Cr - O ñ \left\langle {Cr - O} \right\rangle and á Mg - O ñ \left\langle {Mg - O} \right\rangle distances yields a very high value, 0.96, indicating that in the clinopyroxene structure the local lattice relaxation around the “guest” ion, Cr3+, deviates greatly from the “diffraction” value, ε = 0, than in any other known Cr3+-bearing systems studied so far. Under pressure the spin-allowed bands of Cr3+ shift to higher energies and decrease in intensity quite in accordance with the crystal field theoretical expectations, while the spin-forbidden absorption lines remain practically unshifted, but also undergo a strong weakening. There is no evident dependence of the Racah parameter B of Cr3+ reflecting the covalence of the oxygen-chromium bond under pressure: within the uncertainty of determination it may be regarded as practically constant. The values of CrO6 octahedral modulus, k\textpoly\textloc k_{\text{poly}}^{\text{loc}} , derived from high-pressure spectra of natural chromium diopside and synthetic NaCrSi2O6 kosmochlor are very close, ~203 and ~196 GPa, respectively, being, however, nearly twice higher than that of MgO6 octahedron in diopside, 105(4) GPa, obtained by Thompson and Downs (2008). Such a strong stiffening of the structural octahedron, i.e. twice higher value of k\textCr3 + \textloc k_{{{\text{Cr}}^{3 + } }}^{\text{loc}} comparing with that of k\textMg2 + \textloc k_{{{\text{Mg}}^{2 + } }}^{\text{loc}} , may be caused by simultaneous substitution of Ca2+ by larger Na+ in the neighboring M2 sites at so-called jadeite-coupled substitution Mg2+ + Ca2+ → Cr3+ + Na+. It is also remarkable that the values of CrO6 octahedral modulus of NaCrSi2O6 kosmochlor obtained here are nearly twice larger than that of 90(16) GPa, evaluated by high-pressure X-ray structural refinement by Origlieri et al. (2003). Taking into account that the overall compressibility of the clinopyroxene structure should mainly be due to the compressibility of M1- and M2-sites, our k\textCr3 + \textloc k_{{{\text{Cr}}^{3 + } }}^{\text{loc}} -value, ~196 GPa, looks much more consistent with the bulk modulus value, 134(1) GPa.  相似文献

The investigated Ni doped forsterite was grown with the floating zone technique. The EPR spectra were taken at room temperature using both 9.5 and 35 GHz. All specimens show EPR signals resulting from Mn2+ at M2 and Fe3+ at M1, M2, and Si positions. Ni2+ EPR signals are observed at 35 GHz but not at 9.5 GHz. The Ni2+ spectra are described by the spin Hamiltonian

The diffusion of water in a peralkaline and a peraluminous rhyolitic melt was investigated at temperatures of 714–1,493 K and pressures of 100 and 500 MPa. At temperatures below 923 K dehydration experiments were performed on glasses containing about 2 wt% H2O t in cold seal pressure vessels. At high temperatures diffusion couples of water-poor (<0.5 wt% H2O t ) and water-rich (~2 wt% H2O t ) melts were run in an internally heated gas pressure vessel. Argon was the pressure medium in both cases. Concentration profiles of hydrous species (OH groups and H2O molecules) were measured along the diffusion direction using near-infrared (NIR) microspectroscopy. The bulk water diffusivity () was derived from profiles of total water () using a modified Boltzmann-Matano method as well as using fittings assuming a functional relationship between and Both methods consistently indicate that is proportional to in this range of water contents for both bulk compositions, in agreement with previous work on metaluminous rhyolite. The water diffusivity in the peraluminous melts agrees very well with data for metaluminous rhyolites implying that an excess of Al2O3 with respect to alkalis does not affect water diffusion. On the other hand, water diffusion is faster by roughly a factor of two in the peralkaline melt compared to the metaluminous melt. The following expression for the water diffusivity in the peralkaline rhyolite as a function of temperature and pressure was obtained by least-squares fitting:
where is the water diffusivity at 1 wt% H2O t in m2/s, T is the temperature in K and P is the pressure in MPa. The above equation reproduces the experimental data (14 runs in total) with a standard fit error of 0.15 log units. It can be employed to model degassing of peralkaline melts at water contents up to 2 wt%.  相似文献

Magnesium silicate perovskite is the predominant phase in the Earth’s lower mantle, and it is well known that incorporation of iron has a strong effect on its crystal structure and physical properties. To constrain the crystal chemistry of (Mg, Fe)SiO3 perovskite more accurately, we synthesized single crystals of Mg0.946(17)Fe0.056(12)Si0.997(16)O3 perovskite at 26 GPa and 2,073 K using a multianvil press and investigated its crystal structure, oxidation state and iron-site occupancy using single-crystal X-ray diffraction and energy-domain Synchrotron Mössbauer Source spectroscopy. Single-crystal refinements indicate that all iron (Fe2+ and Fe3+) substitutes on the A-site only, where \( {\text{Fe}}^{ 3+ } /\Upsigma {\text{Fe}}\sim 20\,\% \) based on Mössbauer spectroscopy. Charge balance likely occurs through a small number of cation vacancies on either the A- or the B-site. The octahedral tilt angle (Φ) calculated for our sample from the refined atomic coordinates is 20.3°, which is 2° higher than the value calculated from the unit-cell parameters (a = 4.7877 Å, b = 4.9480 Å, c = 6.915 Å) which assumes undistorted octahedra. A compilation of all available single-crystal data (atomic coordinates) for (Mg, Fe)(Si, Al)O3 perovskite from the literature shows a smooth increase of Φ with composition that is independent of the nature of cation substitution (e.g., \( {\text{Mg}}^{ 2+ } - {\text{Fe}}^{ 2+ } \) or \( {\text{Mg}}^{ 2+ } {\text{Si}}^{ 4+ } - {\text{Fe}}^{ 3+ } {\text{Al}}^{ 3+ } \) substitution mechanism), contrary to previous observations based on unit-cell parameter calculations.  相似文献

Three Al-Cr exchange isotherms at 1,250°, 1,050°, and 796° between Mg(Al, Cr)2O4 spinel and (Al, Cr)2O3 corundum crystalline solutions have been studied experimentally at 25 kbar pressure. Starting from gels of suitable bulk compositions, close approach to equilibrium has been demonstrated in each case by time studies. Using the equation of state for (Al, Cr)2O3 crystalline solution (Chatterjee et al. 1982a) and assuming that the Mg(Al, Cr)2O4 can be treated in terms of the asymmetric Margules relation, the exchange isotherms were solved for Δ G *, and . The best constrained data set from the 1,250° C isotherm clearly shows that the latter two quantities do not overlap within three standard deviations, justifying the choice of asymmetric Margules relation for describing the excess mixing properties of Mg(Al, Cr)2O4 spinels. Based on these experiments, the following polybaric-polythermal equation of state can be formulated: , P expressed in bars, T in K, G m ex and W G,i Sp in joules/mol. Temperature-dependence of G m ex is best constrained in the range 796–1,250° C; extrapolation beyond that range would have to be done with caution. Such extrapolation to lower temperature shows tentatively that at 1 bar pressure the critical temperature, T c, of the spinel solvus is 427° C, with dTc/dP≈1.3 K/kbar. The critical composition, X c, is 0.42 , and changes barely with pressure. Substantial error in calculated phase diagrams will result if the significant positive deviation from ideality is ignored for Al-Cr mixing in such spinels.  相似文献

A mineralogic geobarometer based on the reaction garnet+clinopyroxene+quartz=2 orthopyroxene+anorthite is proposed. The geobarometric formulations for the Fe- and Mg- end member equilibria are $$\begin{gathered} P_{({\text{Fe}})} {\text{ }}({\text{bars}}){\text{ = 32}}{\text{.097 }}T{\text{ }} - {\text{ 26385 }} - {\text{ 22}}{\text{.79 (}}T - 848 - T1{\text{n(}}T/848{\text{))}} \hfill \\ {\text{ }} - (3.655 + 0.0138T){\text{ }}\left( {\frac{{{\text{(}}T - 848{\text{)}}^{\text{2}} }}{T}} \right) \hfill \\ {\text{ }} - {\text{(3}}{\text{.123) }}T1{\text{n }}\frac{{(a_{a{\text{n}}}^{{\text{Plag}}} )(a_{{\text{fs}}}^{{\text{P}}\ddot u{\text{x}}} )^2 }}{{(a_{{\text{alm}}}^{{\text{Gt}}} )(a_{{\text{hed}}}^{{\text{Opx}}} )}} \hfill \\ P_{({\text{Mg}})} {\text{ (bars) = 9}}{\text{.270 }}T + 4006 - 0.9305{\text{ }}(T - 848 - T1{\text{n (}}T/848{\text{)}}) \hfill \\ {\text{ }} - (1.1963{\text{ }} - {\text{ }}6.0128{\text{ x 10}}^{ - {\text{3}}} T)\left( {\frac{{(T - 848)^2 }}{T}} \right) \hfill \\ {\text{ }} - 3.489{\text{ }}T1{\text{n }}\frac{{(a_{an}^{{\text{Plag}}} ){\text{ }}(a_{{\text{ens}}}^{{\text{Opx}}} )}}{{{\text{(}}a_{{\text{pyr}}}^{{\text{Gt}}} {\text{) (}}a_{{\text{diop}}}^{{\text{Cpx}}} {\text{)}}}}. \hfill \\ \end{gathered}$$ The end member thermodynamic data have been taken from the data base of Helgeson et al. (1978) and Saxena and Erikson (1983). The activities of pyroxene components and anorthite in plagioclase have been modelled after Wood and Banno (1973) and Newton (1983) respectively. The activities of pyrope and almandine are calculated from the binary interaction parameters for garnet solid solutions proposed by Saxena and Erikson (1983). Pressures computed from these equations for fifty sets of published mineral data from several granulite areas are comparable with those obtained from dependable geobarometers. The pressure values determined from the Fe-end member equilibrium appear to be more reasonable than those from the Mg-end member reaction. It is likely that the difference in pressures computed from the Fe- and Mg-end members, ΔP *, have been caused by non-ideal mixing in the phases, especially in garnets.  相似文献

Experiments at high pressure and temperature indicate that excess Ca may be dissolved in diopside. If the (Ca, Mg)2Si2O6 clinopyroxene solution extends to more Ca-rich compositions than CaMgSi2O6, macroscopic regular solution models cannot strictly be applied to this system. A nonconvergent site-disorder model, such as that proposed by Thompson (1969, 1970), may be more appropriate. We have modified Thompson's model to include asymmetric excess parameters and have used a linear least-squares technique to fit the available experimental data for Ca-Mg orthopyroxene-clinopyroxene equilibria and Fe-free pigeonite stability to this model. The model expressions for equilibrium conditions \(\mu _{{\text{Mg}}_{\text{2}} {\text{Si}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}_{\text{6}} }^{{\text{opx}}} = \mu _{{\text{Mg}}_{\text{2}} {\text{Si}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}_{\text{6}} }^{{\text{cpx}}} \) (reaction A) and \(\mu _{{\text{Ca}}_{\text{2}} {\text{Si}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}_{\text{6}} }^{{\text{opx}}} = \mu _{{\text{Ca}}_{\text{2}} {\text{Si}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}_{\text{6}} }^{{\text{cpx}}} \) (reaction B) are given by: 1 $$\begin{gathered} \Delta \mu _{\text{A}}^{\text{O}} = {\text{RT 1n}}\left[ {\frac{{(X_{{\text{Mg}}}^{{\text{opx}}} )^2 }}{{X_{{\text{Mg}}}^{{\text{M1}}} \cdot X_{{\text{Mg}}}^{{\text{M2}}} }}} \right] - \frac{1}{2}\{ W_{21} [2(X_{{\text{Ca}}}^{{\text{M2}}} )^3 - (X_{{\text{Ca}}}^{{\text{M2}}} ] \hfill \\ {\text{ + 2W}}_{{\text{22}}} [X_{{\text{Ca}}}^{{\text{M2}}} )^2 - (X_{{\text{Ca}}}^{{\text{M2}}} )^3 + \Delta {\text{G}}_{\text{*}}^{\text{0}} (X_{{\text{Ca}}}^{{\text{M1}}} \cdot X_{{\text{Ca}}}^{{\text{M2}}} )\} \hfill \\ {\text{ + W}}^{{\text{opx}}} (X_{{\text{Wo}}}^{{\text{opx}}} )^2 \hfill \\ \Delta \mu _{\text{B}}^{\text{O}} = {\text{RT 1n}}\left[ {\frac{{(X_{{\text{Ca}}}^{{\text{opx}}} )^2 }}{{X_{{\text{Ca}}}^{{\text{M1}}} \cdot X_{{\text{Ca}}}^{{\text{M2}}} }}} \right] - \frac{1}{2}\{ 2W_{21} [2(X_{{\text{Mg}}}^{{\text{M2}}} )^2 - (X_{{\text{Mg}}}^{{\text{M2}}} )^3 ] \hfill \\ {\text{ + W}}_{{\text{22}}} [2(X_{{\text{Mg}}}^{{\text{M2}}} )^3 - (X_{{\text{Mg}}}^{{\text{M2}}} )^2 + \Delta {\text{G}}_{\text{*}}^{\text{0}} (X_{{\text{Mg}}}^{{\text{M1}}} \cdot X_{{\text{Mg}}}^{{\text{M2}}} )\} \hfill \\ {\text{ + W}}^{{\text{opx}}} (X_{{\text{En}}}^{{\text{opx}}} )^2 \hfill \\ \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ where 1 $$\begin{gathered} \Delta \mu _{\text{A}}^{\text{O}} = 2.953 + 0.0602{\text{P}} - 0.00179{\text{T}} \hfill \\ \Delta \mu _{\text{B}}^{\text{O}} = 24.64 + 0.958{\text{P}} - (0.0286){\text{T}} \hfill \\ {\text{W}}_{{\text{21}}} = 47.12 + 0.273{\text{P}} \hfill \\ {\text{W}}_{{\text{22}}} = 66.11 + ( - 0.249){\text{P}} \hfill \\ {\text{W}}^{{\text{opx}}} = 40 \hfill \\ \Delta {\text{G}}_*^0 = 155{\text{ (all values are in kJ/gfw)}}{\text{.}} \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ . The predicted concentrations of Ca on the clinopyroxene Ml site are low enough to be compatible with crystallographic studies. Temperatures calculated from the model for coexisting ortho- and clinopyroxene pairs fit the experimental data to within 10° in most cases; the worst discrepancy is 30°. Phase relations for clinopyroxene, orthopyroxene and pigeonite are successfully described by this model at temperatures up to 1,600° C and pressures from 0.001 to 40 kbar. Predicted enthalpies of solution agree well with the calorimetric measurements of Newton et al. (1979). The nonconvergent site disorder model affords good approximations to both the free energy and enthalpy of clinopyroxenes, and, therefore, the configurational entropy as well. This approach may provide an example for Febearing pyroxenes in which cation site exchange has an even more profound effect on the thermodynamic properties.  相似文献

Laboratory-scale-simulated experiments were carried out using Cr(III) solutions to identify the Cr(III) retention behavior of natural red earth (NRE), a natural soil available in the northwestern coastal belt of Sri Lanka. The effects of solution pH, initial Cr(III) concentration and the contact time were examined. The NRE showed almost 100 % Cr(III) adsorption within the first 90 min. [initial [Cr(III)] = 0.0092–0.192 mM; initial pH 4.0–9.0]. At pH 2 (298 K), when particle size ranged from 125 to 180 μm the Cr(III) adsorption data were modeled according to Langmuir convention assuming site homogeneity. The pH-dependent Cr(III) adsorption data were quantified by diffused layer model assuming following reaction stoichiometries: $$ \begin{aligned} 2\, {>}{\text{AlOH}}_{{({\text{s}})}} + {\text{ Cr }}\left( {\text{OH}} \right)_{{ 2\,({\text{aq}})}}^{ + } \, \to \, \left( { {>}{\text{AlO}}} \right)_{ 2} {\text{Cr}}_{{({\text{s}})}}^{ + } + {\text{ 2H}}_{ 2} {\text{O}} \quad {\text{log K 15}}. 5 6\\ 2\, {>}{\text{FeOH}}_{{({\text{s}})}} + {\text{ Cr}}\left( {\text{OH}} \right)_{{ 2\,({\text{aq}})}}^{ + } \, \to \, \left( { {>}{\text{FeO}}} \right)_{ 2} {\text{Cr}}_{{({\text{s}})}}^{ + } + {\text{ 2H}}_{ 2} {\text{O}}\quad {\text{log K 5}}.0 8.\\ \end{aligned} $$ The present data showed that NRE can effectively be used to mitigate Cr(III) from aqueous solutions and this method is found to be simple, effective, economical and environmentally benign.  相似文献

We investigated rutile needles with a clear shape preferred orientation in garnet from (ultra) high-pressure metapelites from the Kimi Complex of the Greek Rhodope by electron microprobe, electron backscatter diffraction and TEM techniques. A definite though complex crystallographic orientation relationship between the garnet host and rutile was identified in that Rt[001] is either parallel to Grt<111> or describes cones with opening angle 27.6° around Grt<111>. Each Rt[001] small circle representing a cone on the pole figure displays six maxima in the density plots. This evidence together with microchemical observations in TEM, when compared to various possible mechanisms of formation, corroborates a precipitate origin. A review of exchange vectors for Ti substitution in garnet indicates that rutile formation from garnet cannot occur in a closed system. It requires that components are exchanged between the garnet interior and the rock matrix by solid-state diffusion, a process we refer to as “open-system precipitation” (OSP). The kinetically most feasible reaction of this type will dominate the overall process. The perhaps most efficient reaction involves internal oxidation of Fe2+ to Fe3+ and transfer from the dodecahedral to the octahedral site just vacated by $ {\text{Ti}}^{ 4+ }: 6\,{\text{M}}^{ 2+ }_{ 3} {\text{TiAl}}\left[ {{\text{AlSi}}_{ 2} } \right]{\text{O}}_{ 1 2} + 6\,{\text{M}}^{ 2+ }_{ 2, 5} {\text{TiAlSi}}_{ 3} {\text{O}}_{ 1 2} = 10\,{\text{M}}^{ 2+ }_{ 3.0} {\text{Al}}_{ 1. 8} {\text{Fe}}_{0. 2} {\text{Si}}_{ 3} {\text{O}}_{ 1 2} + {\text{M}}^{2+} + 2 {\text{e}}^{-} + 1 2\,{\text{TiO}}_{ 2} . $ OSP is likely to occur at conditions where the transition of natural systems to open-system behaviour becomes apparent, as in the granulite and high-temperature eclogite facies.  相似文献

Experiments were conducted to determine the water solubility of alkali basalts from Etna, Stromboli and Vesuvius volcanoes, Italy. The basaltic melts were equilibrated at 1,200°C with pure water, under oxidized conditions, and at pressures ranging from 163 to 3,842 bars. Our results show that at pressures above 1 kbar, alkali basalts dissolve more water than typical mid-ocean ridge basalts (MORB). Combination of our data with those from previous studies allows the following simple empirical model for the water solubility of basalts of varying alkalinity and fO2 to be derived: \textH 2 \textO( \textwt% ) = \text H 2 \textO\textMORB ( \textwt% ) + ( 5.84 ×10 - 5 *\textP - 2.29 ×10 - 2 ) ×( \textNa2 \textO + \textK2 \textO )( \textwt% ) + 4.67 ×10 - 2 ×\Updelta \textNNO - 2.29 ×10 - 1 {\text{H}}_{ 2} {\text{O}}\left( {{\text{wt}}\% } \right) = {\text{ H}}_{ 2} {\text{O}}_{\text{MORB}} \left( {{\text{wt}}\% } \right) + \left( {5.84 \times 10^{ - 5} *{\text{P}} - 2.29 \times 10^{ - 2} } \right) \times \left( {{\text{Na}}_{2} {\text{O}} + {\text{K}}_{2} {\text{O}}} \right)\left( {{\text{wt}}\% } \right) + 4.67 \times 10^{ - 2} \times \Updelta {\text{NNO}} - 2.29 \times 10^{ - 1} where H2OMORB is the water solubility at the calculated P, using the model of Dixon et al. (1995). This equation reproduces the existing database on water solubilities in basaltic melts to within 5%. Interpretation of the speciation data in the context of the glass transition theory shows that water speciation in basalt melts is severely modified during quench. At magmatic temperatures, more than 90% of dissolved water forms hydroxyl groups at all water contents, whilst in natural or synthetic glasses, the amount of molecular water is much larger. A regular solution model with an explicit temperature dependence reproduces well-observed water species. Derivation of the partial molar volume of molecular water using standard thermodynamic considerations yields values close to previous findings if room temperature water species are used. When high temperature species proportions are used, a negative partial molar volume is obtained for molecular water. Calculation of the partial molar volume of total water using H2O solubility data on basaltic melts at pressures above 1 kbar yields a value of 19 cm3/mol in reasonable agreement with estimates obtained from density measurements.  相似文献

Partitioning of Mg and Fe between coexisting biotite and orthopyroxene has been experimentally determined at temperatures 700, 750 and 800° C and 490 MPa total pressure in the system KAlO2-MgO-FeO-SiO2-H2O. Oxygen fugacity was controlled by the QFM buffer. Starting materials were synthetic minerals of differing Fe/(Fe+Mg) values. Run products were analyzed for partitioning of components by a microprobe. Orthopyroxene was established to be notably inhomogeneous, whereas biotite was essentially homogeneous. To establish equilibrium relations, statistical treatment of the results of each experiment in addition to the whole complex of experimental data was applied. The regression equations for isotherms of the Fe-Mg partitioning between the minerals studied have been obtained. As a result, the equation for a two-dimensional regression may be written as: $$\begin{gathered} Y = (A + A_1 t + A_2 t^2 )(X - X^4 ) + (B + B_1 t + B_1 t^2 )(X^2 - X^4 ) + \hfill \\ (C + C_1 t + C_1 t^2 )(X^3 - X^4 ) + X^4 {\text{ where }}Y = X_{{\text{Opx}}}^{{\text{Fe}}} ;{\text{ X}} = {\text{X}}_{{\text{Bi}}}^{{\text{Fe}}} ; \hfill \\ t = 1000/T,K, \hfill \\ \begin{array}{*{20}c} {A = {\text{ }}4.59398,} & {A_1 = - {\text{ }}8.29838,} & {A_2 = {\text{ }}4.97316,} \\ {B = - 11.13731,} & {B_1 = {\text{ }}28.19304,} & {B_2 = - 20.98240,} \\ {A = {\text{ }}8.25072,} & {C_1 = - 20.80485,} & {C_2 = {\text{ }}15.35967} \\ \end{array} \hfill \\ {\text{ }}\sigma = 0.0143{\text{ }} \hfill \\ \end{gathered}$$ . This equation enables extrapolation of partitioning isotherms over a wide range of temperatures.  相似文献

Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) study of single crystals of chromium-doped forsterite grown by the Czochralski method in two different research laboratories has revealed, apart from the known paramagnetic centers Cr3+(M1), Cr3+(M2) and Cr4+, a new center \textCr 3+ (M 1)-V\textMg 2+ (M 2) {\text{Cr}}^{ 3+ } (M 1){-}V_{{{\text{Mg}}^{ 2+ } }} (M 2) formed by a Cr3+ ion substituting for Mg2+ at the M1 structural position with a nearest-neighbor Mg2+ vacancy at the M2 position. For this center, the conventional zero-field splitting parameters D and E and the principal g values and A values of the 53Cr hyperfine splitting have been determined as follows: D = 33.95(3) GHz, E = 8.64(1) GHz, g = [1.9811(2), 1.9787(2), 1.9742(2)], A = [51(3), 52(2), 44(3)] MHz. The center has been identified by comparing EPR spectra with those of the charge-uncompensated ion Cr3+(M1) and the ion pair Cr3+(M1)–Li+(M2) observed in forsterite crystals codoped with chromium and lithium. It has been found that the concentration of the new center decreases to zero, whereas that of the Cr3+(M1) and Cr3+(M1)–Li+(M2) centers increases with an increase of the Li content from 0 up to ~0.03 wt% (at the same Cr content ~0.07 wt%) in the melt. The known low-temperature luminescence data pertinent to the centers under consideration are also discussed.  相似文献

Equilibrium alumina contents of orthopyroxene coexisting with spinel and forsterite in the system MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 have been reversed at 15 different P-T conditions, in the range 1,030–1,600° C and 10–28 kbar. The present data and three reversals of Danckwerth and Newton (1978) have been modeled assuming an ideal pyroxene solid solution with components Mg2Si2O6 (En) and MgAl2SiO6 (MgTs), to yield the following equilibrium condition (J, bar, K): $$\begin{gathered} RT{\text{ln(}}X_{{\text{MgTs}}} {\text{/}}X_{{\text{En}}} {\text{) + 29,190}} - {\text{13}}{\text{.42 }}T + 0.18{\text{ }}T + 0.18{\text{ }}T^{1.5} \hfill \\ + \int\limits_1^P {\Delta V_{T,P}^{\text{0}} dP = 0,} \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ where $$\begin{gathered} + \int\limits_1^P {\Delta V_{T,P}^{\text{0}} dP} \hfill \\ = [0.013 + 3.34 \times 10^{ - 5} (T - 298) - 6.6 \times 10^{ - 7} P]P. \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ The data of Perkins et al. (1981) for the equilibrium of orthopyroxene with pyrope have been similarly fitted with the result: $$\begin{gathered} - RT{\text{ln(}}X_{{\text{MgTs}}} \cdot X_{{\text{En}}} {\text{) + 5,510}} - 88.91{\text{ }}T + 19{\text{ }}T^{1.2} \hfill \\ + \int\limits_1^P {\Delta V_{T,P}^{\text{0}} dP = 0,} \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ where $$\begin{gathered} + \int\limits_1^P {\Delta V_{T,P}^{\text{0}} dP} \hfill \\ = [ - 0.832 - 8.78{\text{ }} \times {\text{ 10}}^{ - {\text{5}}} (T - 298) + 16.6{\text{ }} \times {\text{ 10}}^{ - 7} P]{\text{ }}P. \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ The new parameters are in excellent agreement with measured thermochemical data and give the following properties of the Mg-Tschermak endmember: $$H_{f,970}^0 = - 4.77{\text{ kJ/mol, }}S_{298}^0 = 129.44{\text{ J/mol}} \cdot {\text{K,}}$$ and $$V_{298,1}^0 = 58.88{\text{ cm}}^{\text{3}} .$$ The assemblage orthopyroxene+spinel+olivine can be used as a geothermometer for spinel lherzolites, subject to a choice of thermodynamic mixing models for multicomponent orthopyroxene and spinel. An ideal two-site mixing model for pyroxene and Sack's (1982) expressions for spinel activities provide, with the present experimental calibration, a geothermometer which yields temperatures of 800° C to 1,350° C for various alpine peridotites and 850° C to 1,130° C for various volcanic inclusions of upper mantle origin.  相似文献

The specific heat capacity (C p) of six variably hydrated (~3.5 wt% H2O) iron-bearing Etna trachybasaltic glasses and liquids has been measured using differential scanning calorimetry from room temperature across the glass transition region. These data are compared to heat capacity measurements on thirteen melt compositions in the iron-free anorthite (An)–diopside (Di) system over a similar range of H2O contents. These data extend considerably the published C p measurements for hydrous melts and glasses. The results for the Etna trachybasalts show nonlinear variations in, both, the heat capacity of the glass at the onset of the glass transition (i.e., C p g ) and the fully relaxed liquid (i.e., C p l ) with increasing H2O content. Similarly, the “configurational heat capacity” (i.e., C p c  = C p l  ? C p g ) varies nonlinearly with H2O content. The An–Di hydrous compositions investigated show similar trends, with C p values varying as a function of melt composition and H2O content. The results show that values in hydrous C p g , C p l and C p c in the depolymerized glasses and liquids are substantially different from those observed for more polymerized hydrous albitic, leucogranitic, trachytic and phonolitic multicomponent compositions previously investigated. Polymerized melts have lower C p l and C p c and higher C p g with respect to more depolymerized compositions. The covariation between C p values and the degree of polymerization in glasses and melts is well described in terms of SMhydrous and NBO/T hydrous. Values of C p c increase sharply with increasing depolymerization up to SMhydrous ~ 30–35 mol% (NBO/T hydrous ~ 0.5) and then stabilize to an almost constant value. The partial molar heat capacity of H2O for both glasses (\( C_{{{\text{p}}\;{\text{H}}_{2} {\text{O}}}}^{\text{g}} \)) and liquids (\( C_{{{\text{p}}\;{\text{H}}_{2} {\text{O}}}}^{\text{l}} \)) appears to be independent of composition and, assuming ideal mixing, we obtain a value for \( C_{{{\text{p}}\;{\text{H}}_{2} {\text{O}}}}^{\text{l}} \) of 79 J mol?1 K?1. However, we note that a range of values for \( C_{{{\text{p}}\;{\text{H}}_{2} {\text{O}}}}^{\text{l}} \) (i.e., ~78–87 J mol?1 K?1) proposed by previous workers will reproduce the extended data to within experimental uncertainty. Our analysis suggests that more data are required in order to ascribe a compositional dependence (i.e., nonideal mixing) to \( C_{{{\text{p}}\;{\text{H}}_{2} {\text{O}}}}^{\text{l}} \).  相似文献

We report the results of experiments designed to separate the effects of temperature and pressure from liquid composition on the partitioning of Ni between olivine and liquid, \(D_{\text{Ni}}^{\text{ol/liq}}\). Experiments were performed from 1300 to 1600 °C and 1 atm to 3.0 GPa, using mid-ocean ridge basalt (MORB) glass surrounded by powdered olivine in graphite–Pt double capsules at high pressure and powdered MORB in crucibles fabricated from single crystals of San Carlos olivine at one atmosphere. In these experiments, pressure and temperature were varied in such a way that we produced a series of liquids, each with an approximately constant composition (~12, ~15, and ~21 wt% MgO). Previously, we used a similar approach to show that \(D_{\text{Ni}}^{\text{ol/liq}}\) for a liquid with ~18 wt% MgO is a strong function of temperature. Combining the new data presented here with our previous results allows us to separate the effects of temperature from composition. We fit our data based on a Ni–Mg exchange reaction, which yields \(\ln \left( {D_{\text{Ni}}^{\text{molar}} } \right) = \frac{{ -\Delta _{r(1)} H_{{T_{\text{ref}} ,P_{\text{ref}} }}^{ \circ } }}{RT} + \frac{{\Delta _{r(1)} S_{{T_{\text{ref}} ,P_{\text{ref}} }}^{ \circ } }}{R} - \ln \left( {\frac{{X_{\text{MgO}}^{\text{liq}} }}{{X_{{{\text{MgSi}}_{ 0. 5} {\text{O}}_{ 2} }}^{\text{ol}} }}} \right).\) Each subset of constant composition experiments displays roughly the same temperature dependence of \(D_{\text{Ni}}^{\text{ol/liq}}\) (i.e.,\(-\Delta _{r(1)} H_{{T_{\text{ref}} ,P_{\text{ref}} }}^{ \circ } /R\)) as previously reported for liquids with ~18 wt% MgO. Fitting new data presented here (15 experiments) in conjunction with our 13 previously published experiments (those with ~18 wt% MgO in the silicate liquid) to the above expression gives \(-\Delta _{r(1)} H_{{T_{\text{ref}} ,P_{\text{ref}} }}^{ \circ } /R\) = 3641 ± 396 (K) and \(\Delta _{r(1)} S_{{T_{\text{ref}} ,P_{\text{ref}} }}^{ \circ } /R\) = ? 1.597 ± 0.229. Adding data from the literature yields \(-\Delta _{r(1)} H_{{T_{\text{ref}} ,P_{\text{ref}} }}^{ \circ } /R\) = 4505 ± 196 (K) and \(\Delta _{r(1)} S_{{T_{\text{ref}} ,P_{\text{ref}} }}^{ \circ } /R\) = ? 2.075 ± 0.120, a set of coefficients that leads to a predictive equation for \(D_{\text{Ni}}^{\text{ol/liq}}\) applicable to a wide range of melt compositions. We use the results of our work to model the melting of peridotite beneath lithosphere of varying thickness and show that: (1) a positive correlation between NiO in magnesian olivine phenocrysts and lithospheric thickness is expected given a temperature-dependent \(D_{\text{Ni}}^{\text{ol/liq}} ,\) and (2) the magnitude of the slope for natural samples is consistent with our experimentally determined temperature dependence. Alternative processes to generate the positive correlation between NiO in magnesian olivines and lithospheric thickness, such as the melting of olivine-free pyroxenite, are possible, but they are not required to explain the observed correlation of NiO concentration in initially crystallizing olivine with lithospheric thickness.  相似文献

Shock-induced melt veins in amphibolites from the Nördlinger Ries often have chemical compositions that are similar to bulk rock (i.e., basaltic), but there are other veins that are confined to chlorite-rich cracks that formed before the impact and these are poor in Ca and Na. Majoritic garnets within the shock veins show a broad chemical variation between three endmembers: (1) \({}^{\text{VIII}}{{\text{M}^{2+}}_3} {}^{\text{VI}}{\text{Al}}_{2} ({}^{\text{IV}}{\text{SiO}}_{4} )_{3}\) (normal garnet, Grt), (2) \({}^{\text{VIII}}{{\text{M}^{2+}}_3} {}^{\text{VI}}[{\text{M}}^{2 + } ({\text{Si,Ti}})]({}^{\text{IV}}{\text{SiO}}_{4} )_{3}\)  (majorite, Maj), and (3) \({}^{\text{VIII}}({{\text {Na} {\text M}^{2+}}_2}) {}^{\text{VI}}[ ({\text{Si,Ti}}){\text {Al}}]({}^{\text{IV}}{\text{SiO}}_{4} )_{3}\) (Na-majorite50Grt50), whereby M2+ = Mg2+, Fe2+, Mn2+, Ca2+. In particular, we observed a broad variation in VI(Si,Ti) which ranges from 0.12 to 0.58 cations per formula unit (cpfu). All these majoritic garnets crystallized during shock pressure release at different ultrahigh pressures. Those with high VI(Si,Ti) (0.36–0.58 cpfu) formed at high pressures and temperatures from amphibole-rich melts, while majoritic garnets with lower VI(Si,Ti) of 0.12–0.27 cpfu formed at lower pressures and temperatures from chlorite-rich melts. Furthermore, majoritic garnets with intermediate values of VI(Si,Ti) (0.24–0.39) crystallized from melts with intermediate contents of Ca and Na. To the best of our knowledge the ‘MORB-type’ Ca–Na-rich majoritic garnets with maximum contents of 2.99 wt% Na2O and calculated crystallisation pressures of 16–18 GPa are the most extreme representatives ever found in terrestrial shocked materials. At the Ries, the duration of the initial contact and compression stage at the central location of impact is estimated to only ~ 0.1 s. We used a ~ 200-µm-thick shock-induced vein in a moderately shocked amphibolite to model its pressure–temperature–time (PTt) path. The graphic model manifests a peak temperature of ~ 2600 °C for the vein, continuum pressure lasting for ~ 0.02 s, a quench duration of ~ 0.02 s and a shock pulse of ~ 0.038 s. The small difference between the continuum pressure and the pressure of majoritic garnet crystallization underlines the usefulness of applying crystallisation pressures of majoritic garnets from metabasites for calculation of dynamic shock pressures of host rocks. Majoritic garnets of chlorite provenance, however, are not suitable for the determination of continuum pressure since they crystallized relatively late during shock release. An extraordinary glass- and majorite-bearing amphibole fragment in a shock-vein of one amphibolite documents the whole unloading path.  相似文献

The crystal chemistry of a ferroaxinite from Colebrook Hill, Rosebery district, Tasmania, Australia, was investigated by electron microprobe analysis in wavelength-dispersive mode, inductively coupled plasma–atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP–AES), 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy and single-crystal neutron diffraction at 293 K. The chemical formula obtained on the basis of the ICP–AES data is the following: \( ^{X1,X2} {\text{Ca}}_{4.03} \,^{Y} \left( {{\text{Mn}}_{0.42} {\text{Mg}}_{0.23} {\text{Fe}}^{2 + }_{1.39} } \right)_{\varSigma 2.04} \,^{Z1,Z2} \left( {{\text{Fe}}^{3 + }_{0.15} {\text{Al}}_{3.55} {\text{Ti}}_{0.12} } \right)_{\varSigma 3.82} \,^{T1,T2,T3,T4} \left( {{\text{Ti}}_{0.03} {\text{Si}}_{7.97} } \right)_{\varSigma 8} \,^{T5} {\text{B}}_{1.96} {\text{O}}_{30} \left( {\text{OH}} \right)_{2.18} \). The 57Fe Mössbauer spectrum shows unambiguously the occurrence of Fe2+ and Fe3+ in octahedral coordination only, with Fe2+/Fe3+ = 9:1. The neutron structure refinement provides a structure model in general agreement with the previous experimental findings: the tetrahedral T1, T2, T3 and T4 sites are fully occupied by Si, whereas the T5 site is fully occupied by B, with no evidence of Si at the T5, or Al or Fe3+ at the T1T5 sites. The structural and chemical data of this study suggest that the amount of B in ferroaxinite is that expected from the ideal stoichiometry: 2 a.p.f.u. (for 32 O). The atomic distribution among the X1, X2, Y, Z1 and Z2 sites obtained by neutron structure refinement is in good agreement with that based on the ICP–AES data. For the first time, an unambiguous localization of the H site is obtained, which forms a hydroxyl group with the oxygen atom at the O16 site as donor. The H-bonding scheme in axinite structure is now fully described: the O16H distance (corrected for riding motion effect) is 0.991(1) Å and an asymmetric bifurcated bonding configuration occurs, with O5 and O13 as acceptors [i.e. with O16···O5 = 3.096(1) Å, H···O5 = 2.450(1) Å and O16H···O5 = 123.9(1)°; O16···O13 = 2.777(1) Å, H···O13 = 1.914(1) Å and O16H···O13 = 146.9(1)°].  相似文献

A wide set of aqueous chemistry data (574 water analyses) from natural environments has been used to testify and validate of the solubility of synthetic hydroxyaluminosilicate (HASB), Al2Si2O5(OH)4. The ground and surface waters represent regolith and/or fissure aquifers in various (magmatic, sedimentary and metamorphic) bedrocks in the Sudetes Mts. (SW Poland). The solubility of HASB in natural waters was calculated using the method proposed by Schneider et al. (Polyhedron 23:3185–3191, 2004). Results confirm usefulness and validity of this method. The HASB solubility obtained from the field data (logKsp = −44.7 ± 0.58) is lower than it was estimated (logKsp = −40.6 ± 0.15) experimentally (Schneider et al. Polyhedron 23:3185–3191, 2004). In the waters studied the equilibrium with HASB is maintained at pH above 6.7 and at [Al3+] ≤ 10−10. Silicon activity (log[H4SiO4]) ranges between −4.2 and −3.4. Due to the calculation method used, the Ksp mentioned above cannot be considered as a classical solubility constant. However, it can be used in the interpretation of aluminium solubility in natural waters. The HASB has solubility lower than amorphous Al(OH)3, and higher than proto-imogolite. From water samples that are in equilibrium with respect to HASB, the solubility product described by the reaction, is calculated to be logKsp = 14.0 (±0.7) at 7°C.  相似文献

The impact of land-use change on the quality of groundwater in the Xiaotjiang watershed, China was assessed for the period 1982–2004. Groundwater samples were collected from 30 monitoring points across the watershed, and were representative of the various changes, determined by remote sensing and geographical information systems. The results indicate that 610 km2 (60% of the total watershed area) were subject to land-use change during the period. The most important changes were the conversion of 135 km2 of forested land to cultivated land, and 211 km2 of unused land to cultivated land. The main impact was ascribed to diffuse pollution from fertilizers applied to newly cultivated land, and from building development. Overall the groundwater pH value was significantly increased, as were the concentrations of ions , , , , and Cl in groundwater whilst the concentrations of Ca2+ and declined. More precisely, in the regions where forested land and unused land were converted into cultivated land, the pH value and the concentrations of Mg2+, , , , , Cl increased whilst the concentrations of Ca2+ and declined. However in the region where cultivated land was converted into construction land, the pH value and the concentrations of Ca2+, Mg2+, , , , , , Cl increased.
