A gap in the distribution of a parameter is simply the absence of the parameter for the values corresponding to the gap. The gap in the emission line redshift (z) of QSOs thus represents absence of QSOs with emission line redshift values corresponding to the gap region. Gaps in emission line redshifts of QSOs have been analysed statistically with updated data consisting of 1549 values. The study indicates: (i) There is a critical redshiftz c =2.4, which separates two distinct phases in the creation of QSOs. Forz>z c , the creation appears to have been a slow process. Atz?z c there was a triggering action which produced a burst of QSOs simultaneously. Forz c , the rate of production of QSOs have been fast. (ii) The distribution of gaps atz c ; appear to be consequence of periodicities, provided the periodicities involved are perfect and the redshift values are accurate. (iii) The distribution of gaps atz>z c are not random, but follow a definite trend.  相似文献

A Fourier analysis on galaxy number counts from redshift data of both the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and the 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey indicates that galaxies have preferred periodic redshift spacings of Δz= 0.0102, 0.0246, and 0.0448 in the SDSS and strong agreement with the results from the 2dF GRS. The redshift spacings are confirmed by the mass density fluctuations, the power spectrum P(z) and N pairs calculations. Application of the Hubble law results in galaxies preferentially located on co-moving concentric shells with periodic spacings. The combined results from both surveys indicate regular co-moving radial distance spacings of 31.7±1.8 h?1?Mpc, 73.4±5.8 h?1?Mpc and 127±21 h?1? Mpc. The results are consistent with oscillations in the expansion rate of the universe over past epochs.  相似文献

Early physical cosmologies were based on interpretations of the cosmic redshift for which there was insufficient evidence and on theories of gravitation that appear to be falsified by galactic dynamics. Eventually, the big bang paradigm came to be guarded against refutation by ad hoc hypotheses (dark matter, cosmic inflation, dark energy) and free parameters. Presently available data allow a more satisfactory phenomenological approach. Using data on magnitude and redshift from 892 type Ia supernovae, it is first shown that these suggest that the redshift factor (1+z) is simply an exponential function of distance and that, for “standard candles”, magnitude m=5log[(1+z)ln(1+z)]+const. While these functions are incompatible with a big bang, they characterize certain tired light models as well as exponential expansion models. However, the former are falsified by the stretched light curves of distant supernovae and the latter by the absence of a predicted 1+z increase in the angular sizes of galaxies. Instead, the observations suggest that physical processes speed up and objects contract uniformly as an exponential function of time, standards of measurement not excluded, and only free waves being excepted. Distant events proceed, then, more slowly, while angular sizes remain unaffected, approximately as observed. Since all objects contract in proportion, the Universe retains a static appearance. A corresponding physical theory, which should also explain galactic dynamics, remains yet to be derived from first principles. A way to do this, satisfying also Mach’s principle, is vaguely suggested.  相似文献

Doppler redshifts of a sample of Mg II associated absorbers of SDSS DR7 quasars are analysed. We find that there might be three Gaussian components in the distribution of the Doppler redshift. The first Gaussian component, with the peak being located at z Dopp?=???0.0074, probably arises from absorbers with outflow histories observed in the direction close to jets of quasars. The second Gaussian component, with the peak being located at z Dopp?=???0.0017, possibly arises from absorbers with outflow histories observed in the direction far away from jets of quasars. Whereas, the third Gaussian component, with the peak being located at z Dopp?=???0.0004, might arise from the random motion of absorbers with respect to quasars.  相似文献

The propagation of an instantaneous burst of isotropic radiation from the time of its onset at some redshift z 0 to the time of its detection at the present epoch (at z = 0) is considered within the framework of a flat Universe. The Thomson scattering by free electrons and the scattering in the primordial hydrogen Lα and Lβ lines and in the He I 1s2–1s2p, 1s3p (1S–1P*) lines are taken into account. It is shown that the relative amplitude of the spectral distortions due to the scattering in these lines at the corresponding frequencies can be a factor of 103?104 greater than the maximum possible amplitude from the scattering in the subordinate hydrogen lines considered previously (Dubrovich and Grachev 2015). In the linear approximation in optical depth, the distortion profiles in the resonance lines turn out to be purely absorption ones and depend neither on the direction nor on the distance to the burst center, in contrast to the profiles in the subordinate lines. The profiles contain jumps at frequencies corresponding to the instant the source (burst) appears at a given redshift z 0. For example, at z 0 = 5000 the jumps in the hydrogen Lα and Lβ lines lie at frequencies of 493 and 584 GHz, respectively, while in the above two helium lines they lie at frequencies of 855 and 930 GHz at z 0 = 6000. The relative magnitude of the jumps ranges from 10?4 to 3 × 10?3.  相似文献

The results of a comprehensive analysis of continuous radio spectra of a sample of Gigahertz-Peaked Spectrum (GPS) sources are reported. The sources are selected from a flux-density-complete sample (S ν ≥ 200 mJy at 4.8 or 5 GHz) using multifrequency measurements of the RATAN-600 radio telescope and data from the CATS astrophysical catalogs support system. The analysis revealed a very small number (1–2%) of “classical” GPS objects, which is significantly less than the expected fraction of 10%. GPS galaxies are found to have narrower and steeper radio spectra than quasars. The low-frequency part of the spectrum is seen to become steeper with increasing redshift. Galaxies and quasars at the same z have comparable angular sizes, whereas their luminosities may differ by one order of magnitude. At large redshifts there is a deficit of objects with low (several GHZ) peak frequencies. The number of GPS galaxies decreases sharply with redshift, and most of them are found at z between 0.01 and 1.81. GPS quasars are found at large redshifts, from 0.11 to 3.99. A quarter of the sample consists of blazars whose spectra may temporarily have a convex shape when the object is in active state.  相似文献

Our HST WFPC2 survey of 110 BL Lac objects, from six complete X-ray-, radio-, and optically-selected catalogs, probes the host galaxies of low-luminosity radio sources in the redshift range 0<z<1.35. The host galaxies are luminous ellipticals, well matched in radio power and galaxy magnitude to FR I radio galaxies. Similarly, the host galaxies of high luminosity quasars occupy the same region of this plane as FR II radio galaxies (matched in redshift). This strongly supports the unification of radio-loud AGN, and suggests that studying blazars at high redshift is a proxy for investigating less luminous (to us) but intrinsically identical radio galaxies, which are harder to find at high z. Accordingly, the difference between low-power jets in BL Lac objects and high-power jets in quasars can then be related to the FR I/FR II dichotomy; and the evolution of blazar host galaxies or their nuclei (jets) should correspond to the evolution of radio galaxies.  相似文献

We investigate the properties of the Lα absorption lines in the high resolution spectra of nine quasars, B2 1225+31.7, PKS 2126-158, Q 0002-422, Q 1453-423, PHL 957, PKS 0528-250, PKS 0805+046, PKS 1448-232 and PKS 1442+101. Their emission line redshift range is 2.20 ? zem ? 3.54; a total of 350 Lα absorption lines cover the range 1.70 ? zabs ? 3.54. Our analysis support the following conclusions; 1) the number density of Lα absorption lines is not significantly different in different quasars. 2) The number density does not vary significantly with redshift. 3) Their equivalent width spectrum does not vary significantly with redshift. 4) Their properties are the same whether in the wing of the Lα emission or in the continuum. 5) Their two-point correlation function is flat within the limit of resolution, which is different from the behaviour of galaxies. These results show that the Lα absorption lines in high-redshift quasars are very probably produced by intergalactic hydrogen clouds uniformly distributed throughout space.  相似文献

To reconstruct dark energy models the redshift z eq , marking the end of radiation era and the beginning of matter-dominated era, can play a role as important as z t , the redshift at which deceleration parameter experiences a signature flip. To implement the idea we propose a variable equation of state for matter that can bring a smooth transition from radiation to matter-dominated era in a single model. A popular Λ ρ dark energy model is chosen for demonstration but found to be unacceptable. An alternative Λ ρ a 3 model is proposed and found to be more close to observation.  相似文献

We developed a generic formalism to estimate the event rate and the redshift distribution of Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) in our previous publication (Bera et al. 2016), considering FRBs are of an extragalactic origin. In this paper, we present (a) the predicted pulse widths of FRBs by considering two different scattering models, (b) the minimum total energy required to detect events, (c) the redshift distribution and (d) the detection rates of FRBs for the Ooty Wide Field Array (OWFA). The energy spectrum of FRBs is modelled as a power law with an exponent ?α and our analysis spans a range ?3≤α≤5. We find that OWFA will be capable of detecting FRBs with α≥0. The redshift distribution and the event rates of FRBs are estimated by assuming two different energy distribution functions; a Delta function and a Schechter luminosity function with an exponent ?2≤γ≤2. We consider an empirical scattering model based on pulsar observations (model I) as well as a theoretical model (model II) expected for the intergalactic medium. The redshift distributions peak at a particular redshift z p for a fixed value of α, which lie in the range 0.3≤z p ≤1 for the scattering model I and remain flat and extend up to high redshifts (z?5) for the scattering model II.  相似文献

We present the results of our optical identification of the hard X-ray source IGR J18257-0707 through its spectrophotometric observations with the optical RTT-150 telescope. The accurate position of the X-ray source determined using Chandra observations has allowed this source to be confidently associatedwith a faint optical object (m R ≈ 20.4) whose optical spectrumexhibits a broad H α emission line at redshift z = 0.037. Thus, the source IGR J18257-0707 is a type-1 Seyfert galaxy at redshift z = 0.037.  相似文献

We study the radio galaxy RC J0105+0501 by using observations with RATAN-600, VLA, and 6-m Special Astrophysical Observatory telescope. The radio source has a structure resembling the FRII type and the spectral index α=1.23; it is identified with a faint galaxy of $22\mathop .\limits^m 8$ in R c . The optical object is $1\mathop .\limits^m 5$ brighter in V than it is in B and has an extended structure, which we interpret as intense Lyα line emission with redshift z≈3.5 and a continuum depression in the adjacent short-wavelength region. Based on BVR c I c photometry, we also estimated the age of the stellar population of the radio galaxy.  相似文献

We investigate the evolution of a spherically symmetric dust-like cloud at the linear and nonlinear stages in the framework of ΛCDM models of the universe with nonzero three-space curvature. The evolution conditions are expressed for any redshift z ≥ 0 in terms of the amplitude δmin of the fluctuation which stops to expand at infinite time, the amplitude δ ta of the fluctuation which stops to expand at a given moment, and the amplitude δ c of the fluctuation which collapses at a given moment. These amplitudes are calculated as functions of cosmological model parameters and redshift. The ratios D nl r /D l of nonlinear amplitude estimates to linear ones and the typical fluctuation scales k nl /k are approximated by a function of the linear amplitude δ z .  相似文献

Om diagnostic is a useful geometric method to differentiate between different cosmological models without the accurate current value of matter density. We investigate the Om diagnostic for viscous Cardassian universe and find that the model can be easily distinguished from LCDM. We also investigate the influence of the bulk viscosity coefficient τ on the evolutive behavior of Om with respect to redshift z. According to the value of Om(z=0) for viscous Cardassian models, we obtain the current value of equation of state w k0.  相似文献

We have compiled a catalog of 903 candidates for type 1 quasars at redshifts 3 < z < 5.5 selected among the X-ray sources of the “serendipitous” XMM-Newton survey presented in the 3XMMDR4 catalog (the median X-ray flux is ≈5 × 10?15 erg s?1 cm?2 in the 0.5–2 keV energy band) and located at high Galactic latitudes |b| > 20° in Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) fields with a total area of about 300 deg2. Photometric SDSS data as well infrared 2MASS and WISE data were used to select the objects. We selected the point sources from the photometric SDSS catalog with a magnitude error δ mz′ < 0.2 and a color i′ ? z′ < 0.6 (to first eliminate the M-type stars). For the selected sources, we have calculated the dependences χ2(z) for various spectral templates from the library that we compiled for these purposes using the EAZY software. Based on these data, we have rejected the objects whose spectral energy distributions are better described by the templates of stars at z = 0 and obtained a sample of quasars with photometric redshift estimates 2.75 < z phot < 5.5. The selection completeness of known quasars at z spec > 3 in the investigated fields is shown to be about 80%. The normalized median absolute deviation (Δz = |z spec ? z phot|) is σ Δz /(1+z spec) = 0.07, while the outlier fraction is η = 9% when Δz/(1 + z спек.) > 0.2. The number of objects per unit area in our sample exceeds the number of quasars in the spectroscopic SDSS sample at the same redshifts approximately by a factor of 1.5. The subsequent spectroscopic testing of the redshifts of our selected candidates for quasars at 3 < z < 5.5 will allow the purity of this sample to be estimated more accurately.  相似文献

The cosmographic expansion history of the universe is investigated by using the 557 type Ia supernovae from the Union2 Compilation set along with the current estimates involving the product of the CMB acoustic scale ?A and the BAO peak at two different redshifts. Using a well-behaved parameterization for the deceleration parameter, q(z) = q0 + q1z/(1 + z), we estimate the accelerating redshift zacc = −q0/(q0 + q1) (at which the universe switches from deceleration to acceleration) and investigate the influence of a non-vanishing spatial curvature on these estimates. We also use the asymptotic value of q(z) at high-z to place more restrictive bounds on the model parameters q0 and q1, which results in a more precise determination of the epoch of cosmic acceleration.  相似文献

The new class of cosmological model of the early Universe is considered with f(R,T) modified theories of gravity (Harko et al. in Phys. Rev. D 84:024020, 2011). The exact solutions to the corresponding field equations are obtained in quadrature form. The cosmological parameters have been discussed in detail. We present the results of spectroscopic redshift measurements for the galaxy clusters from the first all-sky Planck catalogue that have been mostly identified based on the optical observations performed previously by our team (Planck Collaboration 2015a). Data on 13 galaxy clusters at redshifts from z ≈ 0.2 to z ≈ 0.8, including the improved identification and redshift measurement for the cluster PSZ1 G141.73+14.22 at z = 0.828, are provided. We have performed the measurements based on data from the Russian–Turkish 1.5-m telescope (RTT-150), the 2.2-m Calar Alto Observatory telescope, and the 6-m SAO RAS telescope (Bolshoy Teleskop Azimutalnyi, BTA).  相似文献

By the test particle method, we have investigated the kinematic characteristics of the electrons in the reconnecting current sheet with a guiding magnetic field Bz after they are accelerated by the supper-Dreicer electric field Ez. Firstly, the influence of the guiding magnetic field Bz on the particle acceleration is discussed under the assumption that Bz is constant in magnitude but different in orientation with respect to the electric field. In this case, the variation of the Bz direction directly leads to the variation of electron trajectories and makes electrons leave the current sheet along different paths. If Bz is parallel to Ez, the pitch angles of the accelerated electrons are close to 180°. If Bz is anti-parallel to Ez, the pitch angles of the accelerated electrons are close to 0°. The orientation of the guiding magnetic field just makes the electric field accelerate selectively the electrons in different regions, but does not change the energy distribution of electrons, and the finally derived energy spectrum is the common power-law spectrum E. In typical coronal conditions, γ is about 2.9. The further study indicates that the magnitude of γ depends on the strengths of the guiding magnetic field and reconnecting electric field, as well as the scale of the current sheet. Then, the kinematic characteristics of the accelerated electrons in the current sheet with multiple X-points and O-points are also studied. The result indicates that the existences of the X-points and O-points have the particles constrained in the accelerating region to obtain the maximum acceleration, and the final energy spectrum has the characteristics of multi-power law spectra.  相似文献
