143Nd144Nd ratios measured in Quaternary lavas from Java and the Banda arc of Indonesia range from 0.51242 to 0.51280 and exhibit an inverse correlation with 87Sr86Sr. Isotopically, the Indonesian samples resemble Andean rather than island arc lavas. The samples from Java plot either within, or adjacent to the mantle array, towards higher 87Sr86Sr ratios. Samples from the Banda arc and the anomalous calc-alkaline volcano Papandajan are characterized by relatively low 143Nd144Nd and high 87Sr86Sr ratios. These characteristics are consistent with the interpretation that subducted terrigenous material was involved in the genesis of these lavas. Furthermore the Banda arc samples appear to lie on a mixing line between isotopic compositions characteristic of the mantle and upper continental crust. A high-K trachyte from the alkaline volcano Muriah, Java, has isotopic characteristics of the mantle (143Nd144Nd = 0.51270, 87Sr86Sr = 0.70424), which implies that the extreme enrichment in large-ion-lithophile elements in its source must have occurred only shortly before its formation. The inferred 143Nd144Nd ratio of the unmodified mantle beneath Java and the Banda arc is lower than that observed in mid-ocean ridge basalt, which may have important implications for a better understanding of the geochemical structure of the mantle.  相似文献

A black inclusion from the Krymka LL3 chondrite was analyzed for 20 trace elements and five noble gases, by radiochemical neutron activation and mass spectrometry. The trace element pattern somewhat resembles that of C1 or C2 chondrites, but with several unique features. Elements of nebular condensation T ? 1000 K (U, Re, Os, Ir, Ni, Pd, Au, Sb and Ge) are essentially undepleted, as in C1 chondrites, but ReIr is 1.49 × higher than the characteristic Cl value. Among elements condensing below 1000 K, Cs, Se, Te, and In are depleted to approximately C2 levels (~0.6 × C1), whereas Ag, Bi, Tl are enriched to ~ 1.6 × C1. Such enrichments are thought to be characteristic of late nebular condensates.The noble-gas pattern also is unique. Gas contents are higher than in C1s, by factors of 2.6 to 19 for Ne through Xe. The Ar36Xe132 ratio of 500 is higher than mean values for C1s or C2s (109 or 89) and exceeds even the highest value seen in C3Os, 420, whereas the He4Ne20 ratio of 62 is much lower than the values for C1s and C2s (200–370). The Xe129Xe132 and Xe136Xel32 ratios of 1.040 and 0.320 resemble those of C1 chondrites, and seem to imply typical proportions of radiogenic Xe129 and ‘fissiogenic’ xenon.It appears that the inclusion represents a new primitive meteorite type, similar to C-chondrites, but probably a late condensate from a region of higher nebular pressure.  相似文献

Pleistocene and Recent lavas from the Sunda arc range from those showing affinities with the island arc tholeiitic series, through a spectrum of calc-alkaline to high-K alkaline rocks. The tholeiitic rocks have relatively low 87Sr86Sr ratios averaging 0–7043; the calc-alkaline rocks show a wide range (from 0.7038 to 0.7059, averaging 0.7048); the high-K alkaline rocks average 0.7045. A rhyolitic ignimbrite from Sumatra has an 87Sr86Sr ratio of 0.7139.The relationship between 87Sr86Sr and major and trace element geochemistry is variable and complex. Lavas from the same volcano sometimes show significant differences in 87Sr86Sr despite close geochemical relationships. Rocks of the calc-alkaline suite show a regular decrease in 87Sr86Sr from West Java to Bali and there is some evidence for increasing 87Sr86Sr with increasing depth to the Benioff zone. Calc-alkaline and tholeiitic rocks from the Sunda arc have significantly higher 87Sr86Sr ratios than those from other island arcs, except from those arcs where continental crustal involvement has been inferred (e.g. New Zealand).A model of 87Sr enrichment due to isotopic equilibration of oceanic crust with sea water and disequilibrium melting in the slab and/or mantle is favoured to explain the Sr isotopic composition of the tholeiitic and normal calc-alkaline lavas. Calc-alkaline lavas with high 87Sr86Sr ratios are best explained by either sialic contamination, or the presence of alkali basalt as a component of the downgoing slab. The Sr isotopic data for the high-K alkaline lavas suggest a mantle origin. The high 87Sr86Sr ratio in the Lake Toba rhyolite implies a crustal origin.  相似文献

87Sr86Sr ratios have been determined in fifteen volcanic rocks from the northwestern part of the Hellenic arc. They range from 0.7041 to 0.7134. There is no apparent correlation of strontium isotope values with any major chemical component or with Rb/Sr ratios. The 87Sr86Sr ratios appear to increase in a general way with increasing depth to the Benioff zone. The strontium isotope ratios are higher than from most island arcs; this is believed to be due to contamination.  相似文献

Sulfur isotope investigations carried out on elemental sulfur and sulfates of the Nea Kameni solfataras, Santorini, Aegean Sea, Greece, show a clear enrichment in the heavy sulfur isotope 34S against the assumed primordial 32S34S ratio of 22,220. Within the same crater, different vents, only a few meters apart from each other, produced δ differences up to 10‰, which remained constant for several years. This enrichment is most probably due to contamination by heavy sulfur from a nonvolcanic source. An enrichment in the same order of magnitude was observed in sulfur of recent and older lavas (δ 34S = ?1 ? +11‰).Potential contaminants like sulfide sulfur in hydrothermal ore veins of Athinios has a δ 34S mean value close to 0‰, sulfide and sulfate in the sedimentary basement has a δ 34S mean value of +2.6‰. Seawater sulfate from the area gives a value of δ 34S = 20‰, while sulfide from bacterial reduction of pore-water sulfate in recent iron ore sediments has δ 34S values between ?8 and ?5‰. Sulfate remaining in the pore solutions gave δ 34S = +27‰.The most probable explanation for the observed high δ 34S values in the solfataric sulfur and in some of the lavas of the Santorini area is contamination of the volcanic vents by Mediterranean Sea water.  相似文献

230Th-238U disequilibrium systematics reveal several important characteristics of the mantle source regions and petrogenesis of volcanic rocks in the presumed hot spots of Hawaii, Marion Island (Prince Edward hot spot), and Samoa. The (230Th232Th) activity ratios of lavas from these three hot spots (1.06 ± 0.07, 1.04 ± 0.08, and 0.81 ± 0.06, respectively) imply that the source regions are each nearly homogeneous with ThU weight ratios of 2.9, 3.0, and 3.8. For Marion Island and Mauna Kea, Hawaii, negligible secular variation occurs in the (230Th232Th) initial ratios. This supports other evidence for very short transfer time between source and surface. Significant residence time at depth prior to eruption cannot be ruled out for the Samoan lavas we have studied; however, the data for one of these flows deviate from the proposed (230Th232Th)-87Sr86Sr correlation (Condomineset al., 1981a) in the opposite sense from that expected for such residence. If it is assumed that the measured (230Th232Th) ratios of the young lavas reflect ThU in their mantle sources, then the observed variations among these three hot spots, combined with those reported by other workers for Iceland, the Azores and Tristan de Cunha, suggest that these sources are characterized by ThU ratios ranging from values similar to that of MORB source (~2.5) to values similar to those of bulk earth (~3.8). Mixing of different proportions of depleted and enriched mantle may be responsible for the observed range.  相似文献

Abundances and isotopic compositions of He, Ne, Ar, and Xe have been measured in eight recently fallen chondrites. Ratios of concentrations of cosmic ray-produced 3He, 21Ne, 22Ne and 38Ar indicate that all eight samples experienced less than average cosmic ray shielding. 3He and 21Ne exposure ages were calculated using shielding corrected chondritic production rates and the measured 22Ne21Ne. Exposure ages calculated from 22Na22Ne and 26Al21Ne ratios and constant relative production rates show a bias between the two ages due to variations in 22Na26Al. Arguments are presented that this bias is due to irradiation hardness differences, and therefore the use of constant values for both the 22Na22Ne and 26Al21Ne production ratios is not permitted. Dwaleni, Swaziland, was found to be an unusual gas-rich chondrite with high concentrations of solar-derived He and Ne and planetary-type Xe.  相似文献

15 ordinary chondrites for which unusually high spallogenic Ne22Ne21 or He3Ne21 ratios had been reported and one meteorite with marked shock characteristics were selected in order to investigate the relations between Ne22Ne21 ratios, Al26 contents and depth. We report Al26 and K contents of 13 samples from 11 of these and-noble gas contents of 30 samples from all of these stones.A decrease in the Al26 production rate accompanies the increase of Ne22Ne21 towards the pre-atmospheric surface: Alobs26Alcalc26 = 3.2?2.0 Ne22Ne21 for 1.08 ≤ Ne22Ne21 ≤ 1.2. Large deviations from this relationship may indicate that a meteorite experienced an abnormal flux of cosmic rays.For Ne2Ne21 > 1.2 this trend continues but the data scatter more, probably because of the steadily increasing influence of pre-atmospheric size. Ne22Ne21 ratios increase most rapidly in the outermost few centimeters according both to a plot of Ne22Ne21 vs (recovered mass)13 and to track studies. The increase seems to derive from the enhanced importance of nuclear reactions on Si.Ne22Ne21 < 1.08 defines a region where the Al26 production rates are less sensitive to depth and vanish in the limit of large shielding; the weak correlation between Ne22Ne21 and Al26 in this region rules out the use of the Ne22Ne21 ratio as a basis for a shielding correction to Al26.  相似文献

The isotopic composition of Ag and the concentration of Ag and Pd have been determined in Canyon Diablo (IA), Grant (IIIB), Hoba, Santa Clara, Tlacotepec and Warburton Range (IVB), Piñon and Deep Springs (anom.). Troilite from Grant and Santa Clara have also been analyzed. All of these meteorites, with the exception of Canyon Diablo, give 107Ag109Ag in the metal phase that is greater than the terrestrial value with the enrichments of 107Ag ranging from ~2% to 212%. These data show that Ag of anomalous isotopic composition is common to all IVB and anomalous meteorites. The results on Grant suggest that the anomalies may be widespread including more common meteorite groups. There is a general correlation of 107Ag109Ag with PdAg except for the data from FeS of Santa Clara. It is concluded that the excess 107Ag is the result of decay of 107Pd, a nuclide that is extinct at present with an abundance of 107Pd108Pd of about 3 × 10?5. The troilite in Grant exhibits normal 107Ag109Ag to within errors, a high Ag concentration and a low ratio of 108Pd109Ag ~0.17. Grant metal has 107Ag109Ag that is ~2% greater than normal and a high ratio of 108Pd109Ag ~ 103. The data from Grant appear to represent a 107Pd-107Ag isochron and indicate that the cooling rate at elevated temperatures was sufficiently rapid to preserve substantial isotopic differences between metal and troilite. Troilite in Santa Clara was found to contain Ag with a very high 107Ag109Ag ratio (108% above normal), an Ag concentration only a factor of three above the metal and a high value of 108Pd109Ag ~1.3 × 104. The troilite has a higher 107Ag109Ag than the metal. These data are not compatible with a simple model of in situ decay and subsequent local Ag redistribution between metal and troilite during cooling. These data suggest that Ag in Santa Clara and possibly other IVB meteorites is made up of almost pure 107Ag produced from 107Pd decay and 109Ag produced by nuclear reactions with only a small amount of “normal” Ag. This indicates an intense energetic particle bombardment history in the early solar system (~1020 p/m2) which occurred after the formation of small planetary bodies. We infer that a T-Tauri activity by the early sun contributed to some late stage “nucleosynthesis” and the heating of a dust cloud. In addition, implications on the early thermal evolution of iron meteorites are presented based on 107Pd decay and models of the cooling history.  相似文献

Approximately one thousand drilled wells were investigated for their natural radioactivity. The determinations of 238U, 234U, 226Ra and 222Rn from 310 samples showed a high state of radioactive disequilibrium between the members of the uranium series present in water. The 238U226Ra activity ratio usually fell in the range 1–20 and the 238U222Rn activity ratio in the range 1–20 × 10?4, the highest activity ratios being from samples with an elevated uranium content. The 234U238U activity ratio varied between 0.76 and 4.67, the most frequent values showing a 60% excess of 234U in the samples. Most of the 234U238U activity ratios near unity were found in samples with a high uranium content. Several drilled wells with anomalously high uranium contents were found in southern Finland. The average 226Ra and 222Rn contents of these wells were not exceptionally high, which suggests high mobility of uranium in groundwater from the areas involved.  相似文献

The synthetic chelating agent ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) has been used to evaluate the stoichiometric solubility product of galena (PbS) at 298°K: Ks2 = aPb2+aHS?aH+ This method circumvents the possible uncertainties in the stoichiometry and stability of lead sulfide complexes. At infinite dilution, Log Ks2 = ?12.25 ±0.17, and at an ionic strength corresponding to seawater (I = 0.7 M), Log Ks2 = ?11.73 ± 0.05. Using the value of Ks2 at infinite dilution, and the free energies of formation of HS? and Pb2+ at 298°K (literature values), the free energy of formation of PbS at 298°K is computed to be ?79.1 ± 0.8 KJ/mol (?18.9 Kcal/mol). Galena is shown to be more than two orders of magnitude more soluble than indicated by calculations based on previous thermodynamic data.  相似文献

For sulfates of Miocene evaporites in the Carpathian Foredeep, the waters of crystallization of gypsum (w.c.g.) have δD = ?38 to ?113%. and δ18O = 0 to ?11%. (SMOW). The δ34S and δ18O values of the sulfates are uniform and consistent with a marine origin. It is proposed that the original w.c.g. was equilibrated with marine water. Subsequently, it re-equilibrated towards very isotopically light water (δD ~ ?100%., δ18O ~ ?14%) during a glacial or postglacial period and is now trending towards current waters circulating through the deposits (δD ~ ?50%., δ18 ~ ?7%). The extent of reequilibration increased with decreasing crystal size.  相似文献

The concentrations of 238Pu, 239 + 240Pu, 241Am and 137Cs were determined in rain samples collected at Monaco in the course of 1978–1979. Based on these data, the annual deliveries of these radionuclides to the Mediterranean by rain are computed to be 0.18 ± 0.01 pCim?2 for 238Pu, 8.1 ± 0.1 pCim?2 for 239 + 240Pu, 0.58 ± 0.02 pCim?2 for 241Am and 351 ± 4 pCim?2 for 137Cs.Comparing the delivery data with the mixed layer inventories of 239 + 240Pu and 241Am in the Mediterranean, the upper limits of the mean residence time of these radionuclides in the mixed layer were estimated to be 12.3 yr for 239 + 240pu and 2.9 yr for 241Am. These values are consistent with the conclusion deduced from the vertical distribution pattern of these transuranic elements in the Mediterranean.Based on delivery values, the annual activity ratios for 238pu239 + 240Pu, 241Am239 + 240Pu and 239 + 240pu137Cs are found to be 0,022, 0.072 and 0.023 respectively. The 238pu239 + 240pu and 239 + 240Pu137Cs activity ratios vary within relatively narrow ranges with time, while a much wider variation was observed for the 241Am239 + 240Pu activity ratio. The cause of the wider variation of the 241Am239 + 240Pu ratio may be related to the difference in the mean age of fallout brought down in different seasons.  相似文献

Stability constants of hydroxocomplexes of Al(III):Al(OH)2+ and A1(OH)4? have been measured in the 20–70°C temperature range by reactions involving only dissolved species. The stability constant 1K1 of the first complex ion is studied by measuring pH of solutions of aluminium salts at several concentrations. 1β4 of aluminate ion is deduced from equilibrium constants of the reaction between the trioxalato aluminium (III) complex ion and Al3+ in acid medium, and between the same complex ion and A1(OH)4? in alkaline medium. The K values and the associated ΔH are 1K1 = 10?5.00 and ΔH1 = 11.8 Kcal; 1β4 = 10?22.20 and ΔH4 = 42.45 Kcal. These last results are not in agreement with the values of recent tables for ΔG0? and ΔH0? of Al3+ and Al(OH)4?. We suggest a consistent set of data for dissolved and solid Al species and for some aluminosilicates.  相似文献

Previous studies of the distribution of U and Th in parent versus weathered granites have shown both depletion and enrichment of these elements during weathering. In this study, the distribution of U and Th decay series isotopes was determined in a weathering profile of a granitic saprolite, which showed textural preservation indicating isovolumetric weathering. Two types of dissolution methods were used: a whole-rock dissolution and a sodium-citrate dithionite leach to preferentially attack noncrystalline phases of weathering products. Using volume-based activities, 45–70 percent of the total 232Th was gradually removed during weathering. Although the whole-rock 228Th232Th activity ratios were in equilibrium, there were large excesses of 228Th in the leachable fraction of both parent rock (228Th232Th = 2.06) and partially weathered saprolite (228Th232Th = 3–6.5), due to alpha recoil and release of daughter 228Th to the weathering rind of the mineral grain. For the most weathered sample, 81 percent of the thorium was in the teachable fraction and 228Th232Th = 1, indicating that even the more resistant minerals were attacked.The total U activities showed as much variation in the six parent rock samples as in the weathered profile, and 234U238U were in equilibrium in both the whole-rock and leachable fractions. 230Th was deficient relative to 234U and 226Ra in both fractions, suggesting recent addition of U and Ra to the entire profile. The large variation in U was not from absorption onto the intermediate weathering products, because only 11–23 percent of the U was in the leachable fraction.  相似文献

Determinations of 40Ar39Ar ages are reported for seven severely shock-heated chondrites. Shaw gives a plateau age of 4.29 Gyr. Louisville, Farmington, and Wickenburg give well-defined intercept ages of 0.5–0.6 Gyr. Orvinio, Arapahoe, and Lubbock show complex 40Ar39Ar release curves, with age minima of 0.7–1.0 Gyr. Degassing times of 0.5–1.0 Gyr are suggested for these meteorites. Most severely shocked chondrites were apparently not totally degassed of 40Ar by the event, but retained from ~ 2 to ~45% of their 40Ar. When calculated values of the diffusion parameter, Da2, for Ar are examined in Arrhenius plots, they show two distinct linear relationships, which apparently correspond to the degassing of different mineral phases with distinct KCa ratios and different average temperatures for Ar release. The experimentally determined values of Da2 for the high temperature phase of several severely shocked chondrites are ~10?7 to 10?5sec?1 for their determined shock-heating temperatures of ~950°C to ~ 1200°C. The inferred reheating temperatures, Da2 values, and fraction of 40Ar loss during the reheating event for these seven chondrites suggest post-shock cooling rates and burial depth of ~ 10?2 10?4°C/sec and ~0.5–2m, respectively. For three chondrites these cooling rates agree with those determined from Ni diffusion in metal grains: for five chondrites the cooling rates derived from 40Ar and Ni disagree by a factor of ~105. It is suggested that five of these severely shocked chondrites were part of large ejecta blankets containing hot material and cold clasts with a distribution of sizes and that the cooling rate of this ejecta appreciably decreased as a function of time.  相似文献

The 3He4He ratios measured in 27 Southern Africa diamond stones, four from Premier Mine and the rest of unidentified origin, range from 4.2 × 10?8 to 3.2 × 10?4, with three stones above 1 × 10?4. We conclude that the initial helium isotopic ratio (3He4He)0 in the earth was significantly higher than that of the planetary helium-A (3He4He = 1.42 × 10?4), but close to the solar helium (3He4He ? 4 × 10?4).The apparent K-Ar ages for the twelve diamonds of unidentified origin show enormously old age, indicating excess argon-40. 3He4He evolution in diamonds suggests that the diamonds with the high 3He4He ratio (>2 × 10?4) may be as old as the earth.Noble gas elemental abundance in the diamonds relative to the air noble gas abundance shows monotonie decrease with a decreasing mass number.This paper discusses the implications of these observations on the early solar system and the origin of diamonds.  相似文献

18O16O, 13C12C and 87Sr86Sr ratios have been measured on the same samples for carbonatite complexes. The results show that besides the ‘carbonatite box’ of Tayloret al. (1967) there exist higher δ18O and δ13C values than can be explained by late magmatic or deuteric processes. These processes correspond to high concentrations of CO2 and lead to big enrichments in 18O and 13C as well as in some ‘volatile’ elements. Strontium results are consistent with a model of selective contamination of deep-seated material by highly radiogenic strontium. The whole study leads to the opinion that parent magmas of carbonatites differentiated in a crustal environment with or without significant contamination.  相似文献

The inert gases have been measured in six size fractions covering the range below 500 μm, in a single feldspathic fragment weighing 523 μg, and in an agglutinate particle weighing 465 μg. The two size fractions between 125 and 250 μm as well as 250 and 500 μm were separated into magnetic and non-magnetic portions, which were measured separately. Like the Apollo and Luna 16 fines, the terra fines represented by Luna 20 are very rich in trapped solar-wind gases, but they contain relatively less He4 and Ne20, which is revealed by their average He4Ne20 ratio of 35 and Ne20Ar36 ratio of 2.9. Obviously the terra materials are less retentive for solar-wind He and Ne than typical mare fines such as 10084. Whether this is due to the relatively small TiO2 or the relatively large plagioclase content of the former is not resolved. (Ar36Kr84)trapped and (Ar36Xe132)trapped ratios are relatively large; the average values are 2800 and 14400, respectively. The apparent Ne21 radiation ages of all the size fractions are in the range 209–286 × 106 yr; the average is 260 × 106 yr. This is in the range of values known for the Apollo and Luna 16 fines. The feldspathic fragment has a much greater apparent Nec21 age of 780 × 106 yr. The Ar40-Ar36 systematic reveals the presence of two Ar40 components, because Ar40 = (1.41 ± 0.076)Ar36 + (0.490 ± 0.130) × 10?4 (cm3 STP/g). The Ar40Ar36 slope of 1.41 is not inconsistent with an origin of the sample from a relatively old terra region.  相似文献
