Various spectropolarimetric observations show peculiar Stokes profiles that reveal the coexistence of at least two magnetic components in the same resolution element. An example is given by observations of the full Stokes vector in a complex active region performed with the ZIMPOL I Stokes polarimeter. In order to deduce the physical parameters of the observed regions from such measured profiles, we have extended an existing inversion code, so that it can now fit the data with models composed of up to three different atmospheric components. Two of these components are magnetic and may possess different field strengths, field geometries, temperature stratifications, and velocity fields. The third component describes the field free atmosphere surrounding the magnetic features. The so extended inversion code has then been applied to the ZIMPOL I data. In this paper we present and discuss sample fits. The code is able to reproduce the observed complex Stokes profiles with good accuracy and provides physical parameters for both of the coexisting magnetic atmospheres. Inversion tests with a 2-component model (with one magnetic and one non-magnetic component) applied to the same profiles do not reproduce the measurements sufficiently well.  相似文献

The analysis procedure proposed by Auer et al. (1977) for deducing magnetic field vectors from Stokes profiles has been tested to investigate the influence of magneto-optical effects on the deduced field parameters. The quality of the fit between synthetic profiles generated with the inclusion of magneto-optical effects and the profiles returned by the inversion routine is also investigated. The results show that magneto-optical effects should be included in the inversion routine especially to increase the accuracy of the deduced, azimuth of the magnetic field.  相似文献

The topic of magnetic field diagnostics with the Zeeman effect is currently vividly discussed. There are some testable inversion codes available to the spectropolarimetry community and their application allowed for a better understanding of the magnetism of the solar atmosphere. In this context, we propose an inversion technique associated with a new numerical code. The inversion procedure is promising and particularly successful for interpreting the Stokes profiles in quick and sufficiently precise way. In our inversion, we fit a part of each Stokes profile around a target wavelength, and then determine the magnetic field as a function of the wavelength which is equivalent to get the magnetic field as a function of the height of line formation. To test the performance of the new numerical code, we employed “hare and hound” approach by comparing an exact solution (called input) with the solution obtained by the code (called output). The precision of the code is also checked by comparing our results to the ones obtained with the HAO MERLIN code. The inversion code has been applied to synthetic Stokes profiles of the Na D1 line available in the literature. We investigated the limitations in recovering the input field in case of noisy data. As an application, we applied our inversion code to the polarization profiles of the Fe i λ 6302.5 Å observed at IRSOL in Locarno.  相似文献

The application of Unno's (1956) solution of the transfer equation for polarized radiation to the determination of thevector magnetic field is investigated. An analysis procedure utilizing non-linear least squares techniques is developed that allows one to automate the reduction of measured spectral profiles of the Stokes parameters to determine the field angles, strength as well as other parameters. The method is applied to synthetic spectra generated using a model solar atmosphere and yields results of remarkably high accuracy. The influence of additional factors upon determination of the vector field are also considered. These factors include effects of asymmetric profiles, magneto-optical effects, magnetic field gradients, unresolved field elements, scattered light, and instrumental noise. The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.Operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc., under contract with the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

A simple method is proposed to infer the vector magnetic field at the surface of the Sun from Stokes profiles. This is based on the assumption that the variations of thermodynamical and magnetic field parameters with depth near the surface are so small that the displacements of the wavelengths at which the Stokes profiles reach their extrema can be ignored. And hence the polarized radiative transfer equations are greatly reduced to a set of non-linear equations with vector magnetic field parameters (, , ) which can be solved by a numerical iteration method. By fitting the synthetic profiles, it is shown that this proposed method can produce information on the vector field at the surface. It is also used to revise the observed profiles and it is found that the observed sunspot has the magnetic field structure of the fan model with the lines of magnetic field twisted.  相似文献

For the case of pure absorption lines (LTE) a method is described which enables the general computation of Zeeman-split line profiles. The magnetic field vector, the Doppler shift and the line absorption coefficient is permitted to vary arbitrarily with optical depth. Elliptical birefringence (e.g., Faraday rotation) of the solar atmosphere is taken into account. Some numerical examples are given and some interesting behaviors of the line profiles are discussed.

The temperature distribution with depth in the atmosphere of the magnetic star HD21699 is modelled for each observed rotational phase using Hδ line profiles obtained with a signal to noise ratio S/N = 1000. The observed temperature distributions were averaged within and outside the region of the magnetic spots. It appears that these average temperatures are equal to within the limits of error. This shows that the magnetic field does not affect the physical condition of the matter in the star and does not disturb its thermodynamic state.  相似文献

Analysis of spectral data of two neighboring infrared lines, Fe I 15648.5 Å (g = 3) and FeI 15652.9 Å (geff = 1.53) are carried out for a simple sunspot when it was near the solar disk center (μ = 0.92), to understand the basic structure of sunspot magnetic field. Inversions of Stokes profiles are carried out to derive different atmospheric parameters both as a function of location within the sunspot and height in the atmosphere. As a result of the inversion we have obtained maps of magnetic field strength, temperature, line‐of‐sight velocity, field inclination and azimuth for different optical depth layers between log(τ5) = 0 and log(τ5) = –2.0. In this paper we present few results from our inversion for a layer averaged between log(τ5) from 0.0 to –0.5.  相似文献

A diagnostic method for the determination of the vector magnetic field through the interpretation of spectropolarimetric profiles observed in solar active regions is presented. An inversion routine, that is based on the analytical solution of the radiative transfer equation for polarized radiation given by Unno and Rachkowsky, is described; the routine performs a comparison among theoretical profiles depending on eight parameters and the observed profiles by means of a non linear least square fit. The routine has been applied to the interpretation of the spectropolarimetric profiles observed on 15 September, 1980 in a sunspot with the spectropolarimeter (Stokes II) of the High Altitude Observatory, National Center for Atmospheric Research*. One of the eight parameters (the line center) gives information on the plasma motions. The significance of these motions inside the sunspot is discussed. The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

We address the magnetic field structure of solar pores. The data were obtained at the Gregory Coudè telescope at Izaña using the AT1 CCD camera system to observe pores with three spectral lines: one magnetically sensitive line, recording all 4 Stokes profiles, and two g = 0 lines where only the intensity profiles were measured. The data reduction included the standard procedure (removing dark current and flatfielding) as well as destretching of the polarimetric spectra and removing the non-magnetic straylight by means of a 2-d deconvolution of the observed intensity variation using a Lucy-Richardson restoration algorithm. In the following analysis we first determined the temperature- and pressure stratification of the pore using the g = 0 lines and then applied an inversion of the Stokes profiles to get the parameters of the magnetic field. Across the pore we find a strong variation of the resulting field strength as well as of the inclination and the azimuth, consistent with the assumption of a canopy forming in the higher atmosphere.  相似文献

We aim to study the physical nature of a central umbral dot (UD) close to disk center by analyzing full-Stokes spectra of the two Fe?i lines at 630 nm recorded by the spectropolarimeter on Hinode. Thermal and magnetic properties of the UD were directly inferred from Stokes profiles. Then, we applied the inversion code SIR to retrieve a single-component magnetic model atmosphere that recovers the observed full-Stokes profiles. The inversion results and direct inferences from the iron line pair are consistent. The studied UD does not show any signatures of upflows, but tends to show downflows. At the deeper-half of the photosphere (logτ>?1.0), the UD exhibits rapid changes in temperature with respect to its surroundings. The UD has a large magnetic field strength of about 3000 G without significant reduction at its center. Magnetic field lines are more vertical and twisted in the UD area than in the magnetic field of its surroundings. To explain the observational findings, we propose that the UD perturbs the funnel magnetic field of the umbra, making a tilt-ankle-knee configuration. A new interesting inference, deduced from the blending spectral lines in the observed wavelength interval, is that the shape and surface span of the UD in normalized intensity filtergrams computed at the core of the blending lines differ from the UD area seen in continuum intensity and in the filtergrams computed at the core of the iron line pair.  相似文献

We have computed the physical parameters for the Venus atmosphere between 0–64 km altitude by using Vega measurements. The proposed model can be used in order to study the structure of Venus atmosphere and its chemical comoposition between 60–64 km, where an inversion in temperature profiles has been measured by Vega.  相似文献

Semiempirical models of the photosphere of an Ellerman bomb in the NOAA 11024 active region were obtained using profiles of Stokes parameters I, Q, U, and V of photospheric lines. Spectropolarimetric observations were conducted using the French–Italian THEMIS telescope (Tenerife, Spain). The SIR inversion code [28] was used in the modeling. The models have two components: a magnetic flux tube and nonmagnetic surroundings. The dependences of temperature, magnetic field strength, inclination of the magnetic field vector, and line-of-sight velocity in the tube on the optical depth were obtained. The models demonstrate that the thermodynamic parameters of the Ellerman bomb photosphere differ considerably from those of the quiet photosphere. The temperature in the tube model varied nonmonotonically with height and deviated by up to 700–900 K from its values for the quiet photosphere. Downflows were observed in the lower and the upper photospheric layers. The line-of-sight velocity in the upper layers of the photosphere was as high as 17 km/s. The magnetic field strength in the models varied from 0.1–0.13 T in the lower photospheric layers to 0.04–0.07 T in the upper ones. The physical state of the photosphere did change in the course of observations.  相似文献

A magnetopause that separates two regimes of different flow, additional to the separation of a magnetic field from a field-free plasma, gives rise to the formation of asymmetric Stokes profiles. Using a simple two-layer model atmosphere, where one layer comprises a magnetic field, the other being field-free, it is shown by analytical derivation that a wide variety of Stokes V profiles can be produced, having amplitude asymmetries a in the range –a. These include two-humped V profiles, which have two lobes of equal sign. For the most simple models, the asymmetry depends on the ratio of continuum intensity to the Planck radiation intensity of the magnetic layer at the wavelength of the spectral line under consideration, and on the line depth. Two-humped profiles (|a|>1) require the temperature of the magnetic layer to surpass the temperature of the line-core forming region, implying a temperature inversion, so that the V profile is partially in emission. The confrontation of this formation scenario with properties of observed one-lobe profiles of quiet-Sun network regions is inconclusive due to insufficient spatial resolution and lack of a sufficient sample of simultaneously recorded Stokes spectral lines of varying line depths. It seems, however, to be in good agreement with the observed frequent occurrence of abnormal V profiles of the very strong Nai D 2 and D 2 spectral line. A possible observational verification for the present formation scenario of abnormal Stokes V profiles and a novel method of Stokes inversion are discussed.  相似文献

We present a cylindrically symmetric model for a sunspot atmosphere using the similarity principle of Schlüter and Temesvary for the magnetic field configuration. The equations of magnetostatic equilibrium are used, augmented by a radial Evershed flow. The LTE radiative transfer equations for the Stokes vector were solved under a variety of conditions for a ray emerging from a typical penumbral point. The contribution from isolated lines to the broadband circular polarization in sunspot penumbrae is evaluated using a more realistic model sunspot atmosphere than has hitherto been considered. Results indicate that the inclusion of a velocity field along B is unable to give a net circular polarization of sufficient magnitude, although the variation with the angle between the line-of-sight and B is in qualitative agreement with observations. The corresponding results for the net linear polarization are satisfactory.  相似文献

In this paper, three-dimensional linear force-free field configurations that can be associated with filaments are considered. It is assumed that the field configurations are suitable to represent filaments if they contain magnetic dips. With the photospheric flux distribution chosen to be an arcade with a dextral/sinistral axial component, it is found that dipped configurations exist only for large values of alpha (where, ×B=B). The dips always lie above the polarity inversion line in the centre of the channel between the flux regions. When the dips are viewed from above to a depth of 1 Mm they resemble closely the shape of filaments viewed in absorption on the solar disk. As the magnitude of alpha increases, the horizontal and vertical extent of the dips also increases, giving active-region filaments for low values of alpha and quiescient filaments for high values of alpha. Dextral filaments only form for negative values of alpha and sinistral filaments for positive values of alpha. The portion of the field line that is dipped is always of inverse polarity and the magnitude of the field in the dipped region increases with height, both of which are consistent with Leroy, Bommier, and Sahal-Bréchot (1983). Overlying the region of dips there are arcades of normal polarity which have the correct left-bearing/right-bearing orientation for dextral/sinistral filaments. When the hypothesis of barbs occurring in dipped field lines is used, barbs that branch out of the main axis and to the right/left for dextral/sinistral filaments can be formed around minority polarity elements on either side of the polarity inversion line. No barbs are found around normal polarity elements. The model reproduces many of the observed features of filament channels, filaments and their barbs.  相似文献

We present the results of magnetic field measurements in three active prominences, July 24, 1981, July 24, 1999, and July 12, 2004, obtained from observations with the echelle spectrograph of the horizontal solar telescope at the Astronomical Observatory of the Taras Shevchenko Kiev National University. The magnetic fields were measured from the Zeeman splitting of the I ± V profiles in the He I D3 and H?? lines in the atmosphere at heights from 3 to 14 Mm. Our measurements of the effective magnetic fields B eff from the shift of the profile centroids have shown that the magnetic fields averaged over the entrance slit area were within the range from ?600 to +1500 G. The amplitude values of the local fields have been estimated from the splitting of the bisectors of the central parts of the line profiles at 0.9 of the peak intensity. The corresponding fields B 0.9 have turned out to be approximately twice B eff and reached 4000 G in absolute value. Narrow (1?C2 Mm) height peaks at heights of 6?C11 Mm have been found in the height distributions of the magnetic field. We have found an interesting effect in two prominences-an anticorrelation between the magnetic field strengths measured from the D3 and H?? lines.  相似文献

We clarify the uncertainty in the inferred magnetic field vector via the Hanle diagnostics of the hydrogen Lyman-\(\upalpha\) line when the stratification of the underlying atmosphere is unknown. We calculate the anisotropy of the radiation field with plane-parallel semi-empirical models under the nonlocal thermal equilibrium condition and derive linear polarization signals for all possible parameters of magnetic field vectors based on an analytical solution of the atomic polarization and Hanle effect. We find that the semi-empirical models of the inter-network region (FAL-A) and network region (FAL-F) show similar degrees of anisotropy in the radiation field, and this similarity results in an acceptable inversion error (e.g., \({\sim}\, 40~\mbox{G}\) instead of 50 G in field strength and \({\sim}\,100^{\circ}\) instead of \(90^{\circ}\) in inclination) when FAL-A and FAL-F are swapped. However, the semi-empirical models of FAL-C (averaged quiet-Sun model including both inter-network and network regions) and FAL-P (plage regions) yield an atomic polarization that deviates from all other models, which makes it difficult to precisely determine the magnetic field vector if the correct atmospheric model is not known (e.g., the inversion error is much larger than 40% of the field strength; \({>}\,70~\mbox{G}\) instead of \(50~\mbox{G}\)). These results clearly demonstrate that the choice of model atmosphere is important for Hanle diagnostics. As is well known, one way to constrain the average atmospheric stratification is to measure the center-to-limb variation of the linear polarization signals. The dependence of the center-to-limb variations on the atmospheric model is also presented in this paper.
