The radial–azimuthal instability of a hot two-temperature accretion disc with advection is examined in this paper. We find that the inclusion of very little advection has significant effects on two acoustic modes for a geometrically thin, cooling-dominated two-temperature disc, but has no effect on acoustic modes for a geometrically slim, cooling-dominated two-temperature disc. We also find that, when azimuthal perturbations are considered, the stability properties of the disc are different from those in the pure radial perturbation case. An increase of the azimuthal wavenumber will stabilize the acoustic modes but make the viscous and thermal modes more unstable for a geometrically thin, cooling-dominated two-temperature disc. It makes the thermal mode more unstable and the acoustic mode more stable, but only affects the instability of the viscous mode for short-wavelength perturbations for a geometrically slim, cooling-dominated two-temperature disc. For a geometrically slim, advection-dominated two-temperature disc, the increase of the azimuthal perturbation makes the I- and O-modes more stable and the thermal mode more unstable, but has no effect on the viscous mode.  相似文献

We consider the power of a relativistic jet accelerated by the magnetic field of an accretion disc. It is found that the power extracted from the disc is mainly determined by the field strength and configuration of the field far from the disc. Comparing it with the power extracted from a rotating black hole, we find that the jet power extracted from a disc can dominate over that from the rotating black hole. However, in some cases, the jet power extracted from a rapidly rotating hole can be more important than that from the disc, even if the poloidal field threading the hole is not significantly larger than that threading the inner edge of the disc. The results imply that the radio-loudness of quasars may be governed by its accretion rate, which might be regulated by the central black hole mass. It is proposed that the different disc field generation mechanisms might be tested against observations of radio-loud quasars if their black hole masses are available.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate, by linear modal analysis, the one-armed dynamical instability of a two-dimensional fluid disc that has a massive object at its centre. The model of the disc is chosen to avoid the artificial instabilities that originate from the unrealistic disc configurations that have been adopted in previous studies. We find a one-armed instability for which the central massive object is displaced from the centre, which is generally called the 'eccentric instability'. However, to excite the eccentric instability, the mass of the central object should be appreciably smaller than that of the disc, and this mass ratio is far smaller than what was originally proposed. The instability shown in this paper is likely to be excited in a stellar system with a central massive object, e.g. a galactic nucleus harbouring a massive black hole, and further studies are desirable via techniques such as numerical simulations.  相似文献

We excite an epicyclic motion, the amplitude of which depends on the vertical position, z , in a simulation of a turbulent accretion disc. An epicyclic motion of this kind may be caused by a warping of the disc. By studying how the epicyclic motion decays, we can obtain information about the interaction between the warp and the disc turbulence. A high-amplitude epicyclic motion decays first by exciting inertial waves through a parametric instability, but its subsequent exponential damping may be reproduced by a turbulent viscosity. We estimate the effective viscosity parameter, α v, pertaining to such a vertical shear. We also gain new information on the properties of the disc turbulence in general, and measure the usual viscosity parameter, α h, pertaining to a horizontal (Keplerian) shear. We find that, as is often assumed in theoretical studies, α v is approximately equal to α h and both are much less than unity, for the field strengths achieved in our local box calculations of turbulence. In view of the smallness (∼0.01) of α v and α h we conclude that for β p gas p mag∼10 the time-scale for diffusion or damping of a warp is much shorter than the usual viscous time-scale. Finally, we review the astrophysical implications.  相似文献

We consider the properties of the warped accretion disc in NGC 4258 which is delineated by maser emission. We use our analytical models to consider whether the disc could be warped by Lense–Thirring precession. We show that such models fit the shape of the disc well and we determine the goodness of fit for various combinations of the warp radius and the disc and black hole configurations. Though the fits are compelling evidence, we note that such a model has implications for the formation and longevity of the disc which might be problematic for the current understanding of Seyfert galaxies.  相似文献

A planet of low mass orbiting in a two-dimensional gaseous disc generates a one-armed spiral wake. We explain this phenomenon as the result of constructive interference between wave modes in the disc, somewhat similar to the Kelvin wedge produced in the wake of a ship. The same feature is not expected in a three-dimensional disc with thermal stratification.  相似文献

The radial structure of a thin accretion disc is calculated in the presence of a central dipole magnetic field aligned with the rotation axis. The problem is treated using a modified expression for the turbulent magnetic diffusion, which allows the angular momentum equation to be integrated analytically. The governing algebraic equations are solved iteratively between 1 and 104 stellar radii. An analytic approximation is provided that is valid near the disruption radius at about 100 stellar radii. At that point, which is approximately 60 per cent of the Alfvén radius and typically about 30 per cent of the corotation radius, the disc becomes viscously unstable. This instability results from the fact that both radiation pressure and opacity caused by electron scattering become important. This in turn is a consequence of the magnetic field which leads to an enhanced temperature in the inner parts. This is because the magnetic field gives rise to a strongly enhanced vertically integrated viscosity, so that the viscous torque can balance the magnetic torque.  相似文献

A model is presented for an accretion disc with turbulent viscosity and a magnetically influenced wind. The magnetic field is generated by a dynamo in the disc, involving the turbulence and radial shear. Disc-wind solutions are found for which the wind mass flux is sufficient to play a major part in driving an imposed steady inflow, but small enough for most material to be accreted on to the central object. Constraints arise for the magnetic Reynolds and Prandtl numbers in terms of the turbulent Mach number and vertical length-scale of the disc's horizontal magnetic field. It is shown that the imposition of a stellar boundary condition enhances the wind mass flux in the very inner region of the disc and may result in jet formation.  相似文献

We consider the shape of an accretion disc whose outer regions are misaligned with the spin axis of a central black hole and calculate the steady state form of the warped disc in the case where the viscosity and surface densities are power laws in the distance from the central black hole. We discuss the shape of the resulting disc in both the frame of the black hole and that of the outer disc. We note that some parts of the disc and also any companion star maybe shadowed from the central regions by the warp. We compute the torque on the black hole caused by the Lense–Thirring precession, and hence compute the alignment and precession time-scales. We generalize the case with viscosity and hence surface density independent of radius to more realistic density distributions for which the surface density is a decreasing function of radius. We find that the alignment time-scale does not change greatly but the precession time-scale is more sensitive. We also determine the effect on this time-scale if we truncate the disc. For a given truncation radius, the time-scales are less affected for more sharply falling density distributions.  相似文献

We consider observational and theoretical estimates of the accretion disc viscosity parameter α. We find that in thin, fully ionized discs, the best observational evidence suggests a typical range α∼ 0.1–0.4, whereas the relevant numerical simulations tend to derive estimates for α which are an order of magnitude smaller. We discuss possible reasons for this apparent discrepancy.  相似文献

Most astrophysical sources powered by accretion on to a black hole, either of stellar mass or supermassive, when observed with hard X-rays show signs of a hot Comptonizing component in the flow, the so-called corona , with observed temperatures and optical depths lying in a narrow range (0.1≲ τ ≲1 and 1×109 K≲ T ≲3×109 K). Here we argue that these facts constitute strong supporting evidence for a magnetically dominated corona. We show that the inferred thermal energy content of the corona, in all black hole systems, is far too low to explain their observed hard X-ray luminosities, unless either the size of the corona is at least of the order of 103 Schwarzschild radii, or the corona itself is in fact a reservoir , where the energy is mainly stored in the form of a magnetic field generated by a sheared rotator (probably the accretion disc). We briefly outline the main reasons why the former possibility is to be discarded, and the latter preferred.  相似文献

The problem of the effect of a strongly magnetic star on a surrounding accretion disc is considered. For stellar rotation periods greater than a critical value, a numerical solution is found for a steady disc with turbulent magnetic diffusion, including electron scattering opacity and radiation pressure. Inside the corotation radius, the extraction of disc angular momentum by magnetic coupling to the star becomes strong and this leads to enhanced viscous stress and dissipation. The resulting elevated temperature causes electron scattering opacity and radiation pressure to become significant further from the star than in the absence of its magnetic field. The disc ends as its height increases rapidly due to the large central pressure, its density decreases and magnetically induced viscous instability occurs.  相似文献

The theory of waves and instabilities in a differentially rotating disc containing a poloidal magnetic field is developed within the framework of ideal magnetohydrodynamics. A continuous spectrum, for which the eigenfunctions are localized on individual magnetic surfaces, is identified but is found not to contain any instabilities associated with differential rotation. The normal modes of a weakly magnetized thin disc are studied by extending the asymptotic methods used previously to describe the equilibria. Waves propagate radially in the disc according to a dispersion relation which is determined by solving an eigenvalue problem at each radius. The dispersion relation for a hydrodynamic disc is re-examined and the modes are classified according to their behaviour in the limit of large wavenumber. The addition of a magnetic field introduces new, potentially unstable, modes and also breaks up the dispersion diagram by causing avoided crossings. The stability boundary to the magnetorotational instability in the parameter space of polytropic equilibria is located by solving directly for marginally stable equilibria. For a given vertical magnetic field in the disc, bending of the field lines has a stabilizing effect and it is shown that stable equilibria exist which are capable of launching a predominantly centrifugally driven wind.  相似文献
