We introduce a general mathematical framework to model the internal transport of angular momentum in a star hosting a close-in planetary/stellar companion. By assuming that the tidal and rotational distortions are small and that the deposit/extraction of angular momentum induced by stellar winds and tidal torques are redistributed solely by an effective eddy-viscosity that depends on the radial coordinate, we can formulate the model in a completely analytic way. It allows us to compute simultaneously the evolution of the orbit of the companion and of the spin and the radial differential rotation of the star. An illustrative application to the case of an F-type main-sequence star hosting a hot Jupiter is presented. The general relevance of our model to test more sophisticated numerical dynamical models and to study the internal rotation profile of exoplanet hosts, submitted to the combined effects of tides and stellar winds, by means of asteroseismology are discussed.  相似文献

We construct an idealized spherically symmetric relativistic model of an exploding object within the framework of the theory of surface layers in GR. A Vaidya solution for a radially radiating star is matched through a spherical shell of dust to a Schwarzschild solution. The (incomplete) equations for the motion of the spherical shell of dust and the radiation density of the Vaidya solution, as given by the matching conditions, are reduced to a first-order system and a general analysis of the characteristics of the motion is given. This system of differential equations is completed, adding a relation between the unknowns which represents the simplest way to avoid an unphysical singularity in the motion. The results of a numerical integration of the equations are presented in two cases which we think may have some relationship to stellar explosions. A comparative set of results for other solutions is also given, and some possible generalizations of the model are pointed out.  相似文献

In an autonomous Hamiltonian system with three or more degrees of freedom, a family of periodic orbits may become unstable when two pairs of characteristic multipliers coallesce on the unit circle at points not equal to ±1, and then move off the unit circle. This paper develops normal forms suitable for the neighbourhood of such an, instability, and, at this approximation, demonstrates the bifurcation from the periodic orbit of a family of invariant two-dimensional tori. The theory is illustrated with numerical computations of orbits of the planar general three-body problem.  相似文献

An approximate analytical technique for computing the change in the binding energy of a binary due to an incoming third star moving in a distant parabolic orbit is presented. This is an example of a tidal encounter since we assume that the distance of the third star always considerably exceeds the size of the binary. The perturbation is also adiabatic, varying on a time scale much exceeding the binary period, and the change has an exponential form. Different cases arise depending on the choice of the masses and the angle of inclination of the plane in which the star moves. Some numerical experiments are performed as a means of checking the analytical theory.  相似文献

Various compact dark matter objects (CDOs) were discussed in the literature. Typically parameters of CDOs, such as the mass and the distance, were evaluated by using the gravitational microlensing effect. However, this method has limitations. We propose an alternative method for detecting and measuring parameters of CDOs. It is based on the scenario where there is a star having one planet, such that the orbital plane of the planet does not contain the star. This indicates the presence of a gravitating object located far away at the axis directed from the star to the planetary orbital plane. If in this direction there is no visible star, this could mean that the distant gravitating object is a CDO. We derived analytical expressions for determining the unknown mass of the CDO and its unknown distance from the star based on the parameters of the planetary orbit. We believe that this method could help obtaining additional observational data on the CDOs in particular and therefore on dark matter in general.  相似文献

The total energy E of a star as a function of its angular momentum J and mass M in the Newtonian theory, E=E(J, M) [in general relativity, the gravitational mass of a star as a function of its angular momentum J and rest mass m, M=M(J, m)], is used to determine the remaining parameters (angular velocity, chemical potential, etc.) in the case of rigid rotation. Expressions are derived for the energy release during accretion onto a cool (with constant entropy), rapidly rotating neutron star (NS) in the Newtonian theory and in general relativity. A separate analysis is performed for the cases where the NS equatorial radius is larger and smaller than the radius of the marginally stable orbit in the disk plane. An approximate formula is proposed for the NS equatorial radius for an arbitrary equation of state, which matches the exact equation of state at J=0.  相似文献

We present an improved analytic calculation for the tidal radius of satellites and test our results against N -body simulations.
The tidal radius in general depends upon four factors: the potential of the host galaxy, the potential of the satellite, the orbit of the satellite and the orbit of the star within the satellite . We demonstrate that this last point is critical and suggest using three tidal radii to cover the range of orbits of stars within the satellite. In this way we show explicitly that prograde star orbits will be more easily stripped than radial orbits; while radial orbits are more easily stripped than retrograde ones. This result has previously been established by several authors numerically, but can now be understood analytically. For point mass, power-law (which includes the isothermal sphere), and a restricted class of split power-law potentials our solution is fully analytic. For more general potentials, we provide an equation which may be rapidly solved numerically.
Over short times (≲1–2 Gyr ∼1 satellite orbit), we find excellent agreement between our analytic and numerical models. Over longer times, star orbits within the satellite are transformed by the tidal field of the host galaxy. In a Hubble time, this causes a convergence of the three limiting tidal radii towards the prograde stripping radius. Beyond the prograde stripping radius, the velocity dispersion will be tangentially anisotropic.  相似文献

We discuss implementation of light time effects in a general binary star program that solves for third body orbit parameters and binary star parameters together. The program combines radial velocities and light curves within a coherent analysis and can use data that are very unevenly distributed over time. By analyzing whole curves, the program has access to more information than only from eclipse timings. Results for λ Tau and VV Ori are shown.  相似文献

Existing instruments are unable to detect planets about stars other than the Sun but such detection would be important for the theory of origin of our solar system and in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence. Infrared offers an advantage of about 105 over visible light as regards the ratio of power received from star and planet. Infrared interferometry from Earth orbit would allow discrimination against the stellar infrared by the placement of an interference null on the star and a spinning infrared interferometer would modulate the planetary emission to permit extraction by synchronous detection from the background level. The limit to sensitivity will be set by thermal emission from the zodiacal light particles near the Earth's orbit unless the interferometer is launched out of the ecliptic or out to the orbit of Jupiter, in which case instrumental limitations will dominate. Technological developments in several fields will be required as also with astrometry, spectroscopic radial velocity measurement, and direct photography from orbit, three approaches with which infrared interferometry should be carefully compared.  相似文献

We calculate the disc and boundary layer luminosities for accreting rapidly rotating neutron stars with low magnetic fields in a fully general relativistic manner. Rotation increases the disc luminosity and decreases the boundary layer luminosity. A rapid rotation of the neutron star substantially modifies these quantities as compared with the static limit. For a neutron star rotating close to the centrifugal mass shed limit, the total luminosity has contribution only from the extended disc. For such maximal rotation rates, we find that well before the maximum stable gravitational mass configuration is reached, there exists a limiting central density, for which particles in the innermost stable orbit will be more tightly bound than those at the surface of the neutron star. We also calculate the angular velocity profiles of particles in Keplerian orbits around the rapidly rotating neutron star. The results are illustrated for a representative set of equation of state models of neutron star matter.  相似文献

Changes of the orbit of a star passing through a homogeneous spherical cluster have been estimated. Before entering the cluster the star is supposed to move in a Keplerian parabolic orbit. When passing through the cluster the star is subject both to the attraction of the smoothed-out distribution of matter in the cluster and to dynamical friction. Due to dynamical friction the energy of the star becomes negative which leads to the elliptic-type motion of the star after leaving the cluster and to capturing the star by the cluster. The formulae for the changes of the star orbit in the cluster are given. Numerical estimation shows that open clusters transform star orbits more noticeably than do globular clusters.  相似文献

We consider disk and spherical subsystems of stars with nearly radial orbits under conditions when the well-known radial orbit instability is not possible. This requires that the precession of stellar orbits be retrograde, i.e., in the direction opposite to the orbital rotation of stars. We show that an instability that is an analogue of the loss-cone instability known in plasma physics can then develop in the presence of a “loss cone” in the angular momentum distribution of stars, which ensures a deficit or even absence of stars with low angular momenta. Examples of systems with a loss cone are the centers of galaxies or star clusters with massive black holes. The instability can produce a flux of stars onto the galactic center, i.e., it can serve as a mechanism of fueling the nuclear activity of galaxies. Mathematically, the problem is reduced to analyzing simple characteristic equations that describe small perturbations in a disk and a sphere of radially highly elongated stellar orbits. In turn, these characteristics equations are derived through a number of successive simplifications of the general linearized Vlasov equations (i.e., the system that includes the collisionless Boltzmann kinetic equation and the Poisson equation) in action—angle variables.  相似文献

We examine the longitudinal distribution of the stars escaping from a cluster along tidal tails. Using both theory and simulations, we show that, even in the case of a star cluster in a circular galactic orbit, when the tide is steady, the distribution exhibits maxima at a distance of many tidal radii from the cluster.  相似文献

The effect of a neutron-proton vortex system on the rotation dynamics of neutron stars is examined. The dynamics of the motion of a two component superfluid system in the core of a neutron star yields an equation for the evolution of the pulsar's rotation period. The spin down of the star owing to energy release at the core boundary, which is associated with a contraction of the length of the neutron vortex as it moves radially and magnetic energy of the vortical cluster is released, is taken into account. Evolutionary curves are constructed for pulsars with different magnetic fields and stellar radii. For certain values of the coefficient of friction between the superfluid and normal components in the core of the neutron star, at the end of its evolution a radio pulsar may become an anomalous x-ray pulsar or a source of soft gamma radiation with a period on the order of 10 seconds.  相似文献

By using the method of separating rapid and slow subsystem, we obtain an analytical solution for a stable three-dimensional motion of a circumbinary planet around a binary star. We show that the motion of the planet is more complicated than it was obtained for this situation analytically by Farago and Laskar (2010). Namely, in addition to the precession of the orbital plane of the planet around the angular momentum of the binary (found by Farago and Laskar (2010)), there is simultaneously the precession of the orbital plane of the planet within the orbital plane. We show that the frequency of this additional precession is different from the frequency of the precession of the orbital plane around the angular momentum of the binary. We demonstrate that this problem is mathematically equivalent both to the problem of the motion of a satellite around an oblate planet and to the problem of a hydrogen Rydberg atom in the field of a high-frequency linearly-polarized laser radiation, thus discovering yet another connection between astrophysics and atomic physics. We point out that all of the above physical systems have a higher than geometrical symmetry, which is a counterintuitive result. In particular, it is manifested by the fact that, while the elliptical orbit of the circumbinary planet (around a binary star) or of the satellite (around an oblate planet) or of the Rydberg electron (in the laser field) undergoes simultaneously two types of the precession, the shape of the orbit does not change. The fact that a system, consisting of a circumbinary planet around a binary star, possesses the hidden symmetry should be of a general physical interest. Our analytical results could be used for benchmarking future simulations.

The study of a previously proposed theory of gravitation in flat space-time (Petry, 1981a) is continued. A conservation law for the angular momentum is derived. Additional to the usual form, there must be added a term coming from the spin of the gravitational field. The equations of motion and of spin angular momentum for a spinning test particle in a gravitational field are given. An approximation of the equations of the spin angular momentum in the rest frame of the test particle is studied. For a gyroscope in an orbit of a rotating massive body (e.g., the Earth) the precession of the spin axis agrees with the result of Einstein's general theory of relativity.  相似文献

Tidal tails of star clusters are not homogeneous but show well-defined clumps in observations as well as in numerical simulations. Recently, an epicyclic theory for the formation of these clumps was presented. A quantitative analysis was still missing. We present a quantitative derivation of the angular momentum and energy distribution of escaping stars from a star cluster in the tidal field of the Milky Way and derive the connection to the position and width of the clumps. For the numerical realization we use star-by-star N -body simulations. We find a very good agreement of theory and models. We show that the radial offset of the tidal arms scales with the tidal radius, which is a function of cluster mass and the rotation curve at the cluster orbit. The mean radial offset is 2.77 times the tidal radius in the outer disc. Near the Galactic Centre the circumstances are more complicated, but to lowest order the theory still applies. We have also measured the Jacobi energy distribution of bound stars and showed that there is a large fraction of stars (about 35 per cent) above the critical Jacobi energy at all times, which can potentially leave the cluster. This is a hint that the mass loss is dominated by a self-regulating process of increasing Jacobi energy due to the weakening of the potential well of the star cluster, which is induced by the mass loss itself.  相似文献

We find that in general relativity slow down of the pulsar rotation due to the magnetodipolar radiation is more faster for the strange star with comparison to that for the ordinary neutron star of the same mass. Comparison with astrophysical observations on pulsars spindown data may provide an evidence for the strange star existence and, thus, serve as a test for distinguishing it from the neutron star.  相似文献
