The product of two empirical constants, the dimensionless fine-structure constant (α) and the von Klitzing constant (R k, an electrical resistance), turns out to be an exact dimensionless number. Then the accuracy and cosmological time variation (if any) of these two constants can be tied together. Also this product defines a natural unit of the electrical resistance, the inverse of a quantum of conductance. When the speed of light c is taken away from α, as has been shown elsewhere, the constancy of α implies the constancy of the ratio e 2/h (the inverse of the von Klitzing constant), e being the charge of the electron and h the Planck constant. This forces the charge of the electron e to be constant as long as the action h (an angular momentum) is a true constant too. From the constancy of the Rydberg constant the Compton wavelength, h/mc, is then a true constant and consequently there is no expansion at the quantum mechanical level. The momentum mc is also a true constant and then general relativity predicts that the universe is not expanding, as shown elsewhere. The time variation of the speed of light explains the observed Hubble red shift. And there is a mass-boom effect. From this a coherent cosmological system of constant units can be defined.  相似文献

The angular rotation velocities of stable, recurrent sunspots were investigated using data from the Greenwich Photoheliographic Results 1940 until 1968. We found constant rotation velocities during the passages on the solar disk with errors of about ±4 m s–1. During their lifetime these spots show a decreasing braking of their rotation velocities from 0.8 to 0.3 m s–1 per day. A plausible interpretation is found by assuming the spots to be coupled to a slowly rising subsurface flux tube and a rotation velocity which increases with depth.Mitteilungen aus dem Kiepenheuer-Institut Nr. 201.  相似文献

Laboratory measurements of seismic wave velocities and electrical properties of Apollo lunar samples and similar material of terrestrial origin are discussed in this paper. Measurements of the electrical properties show that in the frequency range above a few hundred Hz the outer region of the Moon may be considered as a low loss dielectric. This observation supports a longstanding speculation that dry, powdered rocks in which the dielectric loss tangent is frequency-independent over a wide range of frequency are present in the uppermost lunar surface layers. The surface layers of the Moon are likely to have an extremely low electrical conductivity. Thus future electromagnetic probing of the Moon to a few hundred kilometer depth is possible in the few kHz frequency range. Based on ultrasonic experiments with pressure as a variable, we next present the elastic constants and equations of state of lunar materials and characteristic dispersion of seismic wave velocities of the Moon. We find thatP andS wave velocities increase sharply within the first 30 km depth and then level off gradually. Combining this observation with lunar seismic and geophone data, we believe that the first 30 km of the Moon may be interpreted as a scattering region. If H2O exists on the Moon, H2O may occur at some shallow depth beneath the outermost surface layer in solid ice interlocking cracks and pores and mineral grains. The rocks in this permafrost state have relatively low seismic velocity and highQ. If permafrost does exist, we would expect a wide range of electrical conductivity and dielectric constant. Future electromagnetic probing of the Moon should yield very usefull information on the physical state of the lunar interior; when this electrical information is combined with the seismic information, we should learn much more about the internal constitution and the state of the Moon than is known today.  相似文献

We have solved the equation of radiative transfer in spherical symmetry with scattering and absorbing medium. We have set the albedo for single scattering to be equal to 0.5. We have set the Planck function constant throughout the medium in one case and in another case the Planck function has been set to vary asr –2. The geometrical extension of the spherical shell has been taken as large as one stellar radius. Two kinds of variations of the optical depth are employed (1) that remains constant with radius and (2) that varies asr –2. In all these cases the internal source vectors and specific intensities change depending upon the type of physics we have employed in each case.  相似文献

We give an expression for the radiation produced by a uniformly charged particle when it traverses normally a semi-infinite boundary between two media, both of the same constant; refractive indexn, measured in the appropriate rest frames of the media. The media are taken to slip relative to each other with constant velocity parallel to the boundary. We compute the differential power output and show that (a) the emitted radiation has a flat spectrum up to a frequency such thatn can no longer be considered constant; (b) the angular dependence of the emitted radiation is peaked at an angle to the direction of motion of the particle; (c) there is a back-scattered component to the radiation. in view of the complexity of the analytic formulae for the differential power output we give some numerical examples forn>1 andn<1 to illustrate the different angular dependences of the power output in both cases.Since high energy charged particles are currently thought to be produced in the magnetospheres of pulsars, and since such particles must then escape from the environment of the pulsar by traversing the differentially shearing magnetosphere, it would seem that the simple calculations reported here illustrate a new mechanism for radiation production which is of astrophysical interest.  相似文献

In a recent series of papers, Sandage and Tammann reach the conclusion according to which the Hubble constant is everywhere the same. This result arises from the analysis of two samples (a nearby one and a remote one) of Sc-type galaxies, each sample separately giving the same <H 0> mean value. We attempt to check whether or not the whole data from both the samples together are consistent with theH 0=constant hypothesis at a suitable level of statistical significance.  相似文献

We have calculated the changes that would occur in mean intensity due to the presence of aberration and advection terms in radiative transfer equation. We have considered an absorbing medium with velocities 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, and 5000 km s–1 (-0.0033, 0.017, where =V/C,V is the velocity of the medium andC is the velocity of the light). Calculations have been done in a comoving frame with monochromatic radiation field. We have calculated the deviation in mean intensity defined as 0)]/J(V = 0)]$$ " align="middle" border="0"> , whereJ is the mean intensity. We have taken two types of absorbing media (1) with a source of constant emission and (2) with emission source. As the emission decreases as 1/n 2 wheren is the number of layer, wheren=1 corresponds to max and n=N corresponds to =0We find that for a total optical depth of one, the maximum change is about 2% whenB(r)=1 and about 6%, whenB(r)1/n 2 whereB(r) is the Planck function. When the optical depth increases to 5 the maximum change in the case of the constant source function falls to 1.5%, where as in the other case in which the Planck function changes as 1/r 2 the maximum changes remains at 6%. Further increase of the optical depth will reduce the changes to less than 2%. The amplification factor in the case of the Planck function varying as 1/r 2 is more than when the emission sources are constant.  相似文献

Spectral lines formed in a rotating and expanding atmosphere have been computed in the frame of the observer at infinity. Two kinds of velocity laws are employed: (i) a uniform radial velocity of the gas and (ii) velocity increasing with radius (i.e. velocity gradients). The atmosphere has been assumed to be rotating with constant velocity. We have considered maximum radial and rotational velocities to be 10 and 3 mean thermal units respectively in an atmosphere whose geometrical thickness is 10 times the stellar radius. The total radial optical depth at line centre is taken to be about 100. In all cases, Doppler profile and a source function which is varying as 1/r 2 have been used. Generally, the lines are broadened when rotation is introduced. However, when radial motion is also present, broadening becomes asymmetric and the red emission and blue absorption are enhanced.  相似文献

We have analyzed the continuum emission of limb spectra acquired by the Cassini/CIRS infrared spectrometer in order to derive information on haze extinction in the 3–0.02 mbar range (∼150–350 km). We focused on the 600–1420 cm−1 spectral range and studied nine different limb observations acquired during the Cassini nominal mission at 55°S, 20°S, 5°N, 30°N, 40°N, 45°N, 55°N, 70°N and 80°N. By means of an inversion algorithm solving the radiative transfer equation, we derived the vertical profiles of haze extinction coefficients from 17 spectral ranges of 20-cm−1 wide at each of the nine latitudes. At a given latitude, all extinction vertical profiles retrieved from various spectral intervals between 600 and 1120 cm−1 display similar vertical slopes implying similar spectral characteristics of the material at all altitudes. We calculated a mean vertical extinction profile for each latitude and derived the ratio of the haze scale height (Hhaze) to the pressure scale height (Hgas) as a function of altitude. We inferred Hhaze/Hgas values varying from 0.8 to 2.4. The aerosol scale height varies with altitude and also with latitude. Overall, the haze extinction does not show strong latitudinal variations but, at 1 mbar, an increase by a factor of 1.5 is observed at the north pole compared to high southern latitudes. The vertical optical depths at 0.5 and 1.7 mbar increase from 55°S to 5°N, remain constant between 5°N and 30°N and display little variation at higher latitudes, except the presence of a slight local maximum at 45°N. The spectral dependence of the haze vertical optical depth is uniform with latitude and displays three main spectral features centered at 630 cm−1, 745 cm−1 and 1390 cm−1, the latter showing a wide tail extending down to ∼1000 cm−1. From 600 to 750 cm−1, the optical depth increases by a factor of 3 in contrast with the absorbance of laboratory tholins, which is generally constant. We derived the mass mixing ratio profiles of haze at the nine latitudes. Below the 0.4-mbar level all mass mixing ratio profiles increase with height. Above this pressure level, the profiles at 40°N, 45°N, 55°N, at the edge of the polar vortex, display a decrease-with-height whereas the other profiles increase. The global increase with height of the haze mass mixing ratio suggest a source at high altitudes and a sink at low altitudes. An enrichment of haze is observed at 0.1 mbar around the equator, which could be due to a more efficient photochemistry because of the strongest insolation there or an accumulation of haze due to a balance between sedimentation and upward vertical drag.  相似文献

We discuss observations of the Moon at a wavelength of 49.3 cm made with the Owens Valley Radio Observatory Interferometer. These observations have been fit to models in order to estimate the lunar dielectric constant, the equatorial subsurface temperature, the latitude dependence of the subsurface temperature, and the subsurface temperature gradient. The models are most consistent with a dielectric constant of 2.52 ± 0.01 (formal errors), an equatorial subsurface temperature of 249?5+8K, and a change in the subsurface temperature with latitude (ψ), which is proportional to cos0.38ψ. Since the temperature of the Moon has been measured by the Apollo Lunar Heat Flow Experiment, we have been able to use our determination of the equatorial temperature to estimate the error in the flux density calibration scale at 49.3cm (608 MHz). This results in a correction factor of 1.03 ± 0.04, which must be applied to the flux density scale. This factor is much different from 1.21 ± 0.09 estimated by Muhleman et al. (1973) from the brightness temperature of Venus and apparently indicates that the observed decrease in the brightness temperature of Venus at long wavelengths is a real effect. The estimates of the temperature gradient, which are based on the measurement of limb darkening, are small and negative (temperature decreases with depth) and may be insignificantly different from zero since they are only as large as their formal errors. We estimate that a temperature gradient in excess of 0.6K/m at 10m depth would have been observed. Thus, a temperature gradient like that measured in situ at the Apollo 15 and 17 landing sites in the upper 2m of the regolith is not typical of the entire lunar frontside at the 10m depths where the 49.3 cm wavelength emission originates. This result may indicate that the mean lunar heat flow is lower than that measured at the Apollo landing sites, that the thermal conductivity is greater at 10m depth than it is at 2m depth, or that the radio opacity is greater at 10m depth than at 2m depth. The negative estimates of the temperature gradient indicate that the Moon appeared limb bright and might be explained by scattering of the emission from boulders or an interface with solid rock. The presence of solid rock at 10m depths will probably cause heat flows like those measured by Apollo to be unobservable by our interferometric method at long wavelengths, since it will cause both the thermal conductivity and radio opacity of the regolith to increase. Thus, our data may be most consistent with a change in the physical properties of the regolith to those of solid rock or a mixture of rock and soil at depths of 7 to 16m. Our results show that future radio measurements for heat flow determinations must utilize wavelengths considerably shorter than 50 cm (25 cm or less) to avoid the rock regions below the regolith.  相似文献

We study the dynamical evolution of an f(R) model of gravity in a viscous and anisotropic background which is given by a Bianchi type-I model of the Universe. We find viable forms of f(R) gravity in which one is exactly the Einsteinian model of gravity with a cosmological constant and other two are power law f(R) models. We show that these two power law models are stable with a suitable choice of parameters. We also examine three potentials which exhibit the potential effect of f(R) models in the context of scalar tensor theory. By solving different aspects of the model and finding the physical quantities in the Jordan frame, we show that the equation of state parameter satisfy the dominant energy condition. At last we show that the two power law f(R) models behave like quintessence model at late times and also the shear coefficient viscosity tends to zero at late times.  相似文献

We develop a new method to find solutions of the equations of motion in Hamiltonian Dynamical Systems. The idea of the method is to express the solution of the nonlinear ODE in the formx=N/D n , whereN andD are Fourier series andn is an appropriate constant. We apply this method to a galactic potential with three degrees of freedom.Paper presented at the 11th European Regional Astronomical Meetings of the IAU on New Windows to the Universe, held 3–8 July, 1989, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain.  相似文献

We studied the kinematic evolution of the 8 October 2007 CME in the corona based on observations from Sun – Earth Connection Coronal and Heliospheric Investigation (SECCHI) onboard satellite B of Solar TErrestrial RElations Observatory (STEREO). The observational results show that this CME obviously deflected to a lower latitude region of about 30° at the beginning. After this, the CME propagated radially. We also analyze the influence of the background magnetic field on the deflection of this CME. We find that the deflection of this CME at an early stage may be caused by a nonuniform distribution of the background magnetic-field energy density and that the CME tended to propagate to the region with lower magnetic-energy density. In addition, we found that the velocity profile of this gradual CME shows multiphased evolution during its propagation in the COR1-B FOV. The CME velocity first remained constant: 23.1 km s−1. Then it accelerated continuously with a positive acceleration of ≈7.6 m s−2.  相似文献

As large-distance rays (say, 10?–?24°) approach the solar surface approximately vertically, travel times measured from surface pairs for these large separations are mostly sensitive to vertical flows, at least for shallow flows within a few Mm of the solar surface. All previous analyses of supergranulation have used smaller separations and have been hampered by the difficulty of separating the horizontal and vertical flow components. We find that the large-separation travel times associated with supergranulation cannot be studied using the standard phase-speed filters of time–distance helioseismology. These filters, whose use is based upon a refractive model of the perturbations, reduce the resultant travel-time signal by at least an order of magnitude at some distances. More effective filters are derived. Modeling suggests that the center–annulus travel-time difference [δt oi] in the separation range Δ=10?–?24° is insensitive to the horizontally diverging flow from the centers of the supergranules and should lead to a constant signal from the vertical flow. Our measurement of this quantity, 5.1±0.1 seconds, is constant over the distance range. This magnitude of the signal cannot be caused by the level of upflow at cell centers seen at the photosphere of 10 m?s?1 extended in depth. It requires the vertical flow to increase with depth. A simple Gaussian model of the increase with depth implies a peak upward flow of 240 m?s?1 at a depth of 2.3 Mm and a peak horizontal flow of 700 m?s?1 at a depth of 1.6 Mm.  相似文献

We use a compilation of cosmic microwave anisotropy data to constrain the epoch of reionization in the Universe, as a function of cosmological parameters. We consider spatially flat cosmologies, varying the matter density Ω0 (the flatness being restored by a cosmological constant), the Hubble parameter h and the spectral index n of the primordial power spectrum. Our results are quoted both in terms of the maximum permitted optical depth to the last-scattering surface, and in terms of the highest allowed reionization redshift assuming instantaneous reionization. For critical-density models, significantly tilted power spectra are excluded as they cannot fit the current data for any amount of reionization, and even scale-invariant models must have an optical depth to last scattering of below 0.3. For the currently favoured low-density model with Ω0=0.3 and a cosmological constant, the earliest reionization permitted to occur is at around redshift 35, which roughly coincides with the highest estimate in the literature. We provide general fitting functions for the maximum permitted optical depth, as a function of cosmological parameters. We do not consider the inclusion of tensor perturbations, but if present they would strengthen the upper limits that we quote.  相似文献

The W UMa system V758 Centauri has been observed photoelectrically in theUBV system at Bosque Alegre Station, and the comparison and check stars at Cerro Tololo Observatory. Full light curves were constructed from 1043 differentialUBV observations. A study of 11 photoelectric times of minimum light and of earlier photographic data shows that the period remained constant in the last century, V758 Cen shows a total occultation at secondary minimum, thus being an A-type W UMa system. Asymmetries are observed at primary minima whereas maxima are of different heights. Thermal decoupling of the components is suggested by the depth ratio of the minima; V758 Cen may be at the broken phase (or marginal contact) of a thermal relaxation oscillation.  相似文献

We consider a spherical, solid planet surrounded by a thin layer of an incompressible, inviscid fluid. The planet rotates with constant angular velocity.Within the constraints of the geostrophic approximation of hydrodynamics, we determine the equation that governs the motion of a vortex tube within this rotating ocean. This vorticity equation turns out to be a nonlinear partial differential equation of the third order for the stream function of the motion. We next examine the existence of particular solutions to the vorticity equation that represent travelling waves of permanent form but decaying at infinity. A particular solution is obtained in terms of I 1 and k 1, the modified Bessel functions of order one.The question whether these localized vortices that move like solitary waves could even be solitons depends on their behavior during and after collision with each other and has not yet been resolved.Retired, U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, D.C., U.S.A.  相似文献

The possibility that the cosmological term is proportional toGU, whereG is the gravitational coupling andU is the mass density of the universe is proposed and discussed. WithG = constant, a cosmological model is obtained, which avoids the flatness and horizon problems and does not affect the well known predictions on the cosmic helium abundance which come from standard big bang cosmology. In such model, the deceleration parameter is a null constant, there is matter creation process throughout the universe at the rate 10–47 g cm–3 s–1 and the cosmological term varies asH 2 =t –2, whereH is the Hubble constant andt is the cosmic time. The possibility of a time-dependentG is then considered. The main consequence of this is that there is a mass creation process on the local scale; the rate of mass creation inside a body of massM is dM/dt =M H. In Section 6 it is suggested that the new matter might be in the form of neutrinos. This suggestion leads to an interesting consequence in celestial mechanics: the radius of a binary system should depend on time according to the nature of the components (the radius of a binary star should decrease, the radius of a planet-moon system should expand, and the orbital radius of a planet should stay constant).  相似文献

The mechanisms of absorption formation in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) spectrum at the frequency of the 21-cm line of the transition between the ground-state hyperfine sublevels of the hydrogen atom are analyzed. We show that a strong nonlinearity at the compression stage of primordial matter density fluctuations can give rise to a significant (in depth) absorption even before the explosions of the first stars. In this case, the main effect is due to the heating of matter in a certain narrow range of temperatures under cloud compression. We consider a steady-state radiative transfer in the 21-cm line in a medium that represents a contracting primordial matter density fluctuation at a given redshift z modeled by a homogeneous spherically symmetric cloud in the state of collapse with an adiabatic change in the gas temperature. For a sequence of cloud states with different degrees of compression we have calculated the frequency profiles of the line in the flux of radiation emerging from the cloud. In the initial state we specify the cloud radius r0, while the gas density is assumed to be equal to the mean cosmological density for a given redshift. We show that for a separate cloud at z = 20, r0 = 1 kpc, and a degree of radius compression of 1.9 the absorption depth in the line center can reach 0.9 K. When averaged over an ensemble of clouds, the central frequency of the line and its width are determined by the details of the fluctuation evolution dynamics.
