We study motions of charged particles in reconnecting current sheets (CS) which have both transverse (perpendicular to the current sheet plane) and longitudinal (parallel to the electric current inside the sheet) components of the magnetic field. Such CS, called non-neutral, are formed in regions of magnetic field line reconnection in the solar atmosphere. We develop an analytical technique which allows us to reproduce previous results concerning the influence of transverse fields on particle motion and acceleration. This technique also allows us to evaluate the effect of the longitudinal field. The latter increases considerably the efficiency of particle acceleration in CS. The energizing of electrons during the main phase of solar flares can be interpreted as their acceleration in non-neutral CS.  相似文献

During 23–28 August 1988, at the Huairou Solar Observation Station of Beijing Observatory, the full development process of the region HR 88059 was observed. It emerged near the center of the solar disk and formed a medium active region. A complete series of vector magnetograms and photospheric and chromospheric Dopplergrams was obtained. From an analysis of these data, combined with some numerical simulations, the following conclusions can be drawn. (1) The emergence of new magnetic flux from enhanced networks followed by sunspot formation is an interesting physical process which can be simply described by MHD numerical simulation. The phenomena accompanying it occur according to a definite law summarized by Zwaan (1985). The condition for gas cooling and sunspot formation seems to be transverse field strength > 50 G together with longitudinal field strength > 700 G. For a period of 4 to 5 hours, the orientation of the transverse field shows little change. The configuration of field lines may be derived from vector magnetograms. The arch filament system can be recognized as an MHD shock. (2) New opposite bipolar features emerge within the former bipolar field with an identical strength which will develop a sunspot group complex. Also, arch filament systems appear there located in the position of flux emergence. The neutral line is often pushed aside and curved, leading to faculae heating and the formation of a current sheet. In spite of complicated Dopplergrams, the same phenomena occur at the site of flux emergence as usual: upward flow appears at the location of the emerging and rapidly varying flux near the magnetic neutral line, and downdraft occurs over large parts of the legs of the emerging flux tubes. The age of magnetic emerging flux (or a sunspot) can be estimated in terms of transverse field strengths: when 50 G < transverse field < 200 G, the longitudinal magnetogram and Dopplergram change rapidly, which indicates a rigourously emerging magnetic flux. When the transverse field is between 200 and 400 G, the area concerned is in middle age, and some of the new flux is still emerging there. When the transverse field > 400 G, the variation of the longitudinal magnetogram slows down and the emerging arch becomes relatively stable and a photospheric Evershed flow forms at the penumbra of the sunspot.  相似文献

We model the dynamical interaction between magnetic flux tubes and granules in the solar photosphere which leads to the excitation of transverse (kink) and longitudinal (sausage) tube waves. The investigation is motivated by the interpretation of network oscillations in terms of flux tube waves. The calculations show that for magnetic field strengths typical of the network, the energy flux in transverse waves is higher than in longitudinal waves by an order of magnitude. But for weaker fields, such as those that might be found in internetwork regions, the energy fluxes in the two modes are comparable. Using observations of footpoint motions, the energy flux in transverse waves is calculated and the implications for chromospheric heating are pointed out.  相似文献

Joint vector magnetograph observations were carried out at Big Bear Solar Observatory (BBSO), Huairou Solar Observing Station (Huairou), and Mees Solar Observatory (MSO) in late September 1989. Comparisons of vector magnetograms obtained at the three stations show a high degree of consistency in the morphology of both longitudinal and transverse fields. Quantitative comparisons show the presence of noise, cross-talk between longitudinal field and transverse field, Faraday rotation and signal saturation effects in the magnetograms. We have tried to establish how the scatter in measurements from different instruments is apportioned between these sources of error.  相似文献

The problem of incipient fragmentation of interstellar matter to form condensation is investigated taking into account the porosity, viscosity, thermal conductivity, and effect of finite ion-Larmor radius (FLR) on the self-gravitating plasma having a uniform magnetic field acting in vertical direction. Relevant linearized equations are stated and dispersion relation is obtained. Wave propagation in longitudinal and transverse direction to the magnetic field is considered. Stability and instability of the medium is discussed. It is found that if the Jeans's instability condition is not fulfilled the medium must remain stable. Magnetic field, FLR and porosity do not affect the Jeans's criterion of instability in longitudinal direction but in transverse direction, the magnetic field and FLR have stabilizing effect which is reduced due to porosity of the medium. Thermal conductivity destabilizes the medium in both the directions. In transverse direction contribution of FLR on the Jeans's expression for instability is not observed in thermally conducting medium.  相似文献

By comparison of photoelectric magnetograms with high resolution Hα pictures it is possible to formulate a set of rules by which the magnetic field may be derived directly from the filtergrams. This is possible because of the regularities of magnetic field configurations on the sun and because chromospheric morphology is determined by the magnetic field. Off-band pictures (preferably 0.5 Å red) show a well-defined enhanced chromospheric network, the boundaries of which coincide with the 5 G contour of longitudinal field on the Mt. Wilson magnetograms. The actual fields are presumably more concentrated along the dark structure of the network. Higher fields are marked by filled-in cells. Regions of predominantly transverse fields may be inferred from the absence of normal network structure and the presence of chromospheric fibrils. The quiet chromosphere is recognized by the presence of oscillatory motion and the absence of fibrils or strong network structure. Thus, the chromosphere may be divided into three types of regions: enhanced network, horizontal field, and quiet network. The polarity of the magnetic field may be recognized by plage-antiplage asymmetry; that is, the fact that only following magnetic fields show bright plage in the center of Hα.  相似文献

We study the spatial properties of solar magnetic fields using data from the Solar Vector Magnetograph of the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) (FeI 5250.2 Å) and SOHO/MDI longitudinal magnetic field measurements (Ni 6767.8 Å) (96-min full-disk maps). Our study is focused on two objects: the fractal properties of sunspots and the fractal properties of the spatial magnetic field distribution of active and quiet regions considered as global structures. To study the spatial structure of sunspots, we use a well-known method of determining the fractal dimension based on an analysis of the perimeter—area relation. To analyze the fractal properties of the spatial magnetic field distribution over the solar surface, we use a technique developed by Higuchi. We have revealed the existence of three families of self-similar contours corresponding to the sunspot umbra, penumbra, and adjacent photosphere. The fractal coefficient has maxima near the umbra—penumbra and penumbra—photosphere boundaries. The fractal dependences of the longitudinal and transverse magnetic field distributions are similar, but the fractal numbers themselves for the transverse fields are larger than those for the longitudinal fields approximately by a factor of 1.5. The fractal numbers decrease with increasing mean magnetic field strength, implying that the magnetic field distribution is more regular in active regions.  相似文献

Electron and proton acceleration by a super-Dreicer electric field is investigated in the non-neutral reconnecting current sheet (RCS) with a non-zero longitudinal component of the magnetic field ('guiding field'). The guiding field is assumed parallel to the direction of electric field and constant within an RCS. The other two magnetic field components, transverse and tangential, are considered to vary with distances from the X null point of an RCS. The proton and electron energy spectra are calculated numerically from a motion equation using the test particle approach for model RCSs with constant and variable densities. In the presence of a strong or moderate guiding field, protons were found fully or partially separated from electrons at ejection from an RCS into the opposite, 'electron' and 'proton', semiplanes. In the case of a weak guiding field, both protons and electrons are ejected symmetrically in equal proportions as neutral beams. The particles ejected from an RCS with a very weak or very strong guiding field have power-law energy spectra with spectral indices of about 1.5 for protons and 2.0 for electrons. For a moderate guiding field, the energy spectra of electrons ejected into the opposite semiplanes are mixed, i.e. in the 'electron-dominated' semiplane power-law energy spectra for electrons and thermal-like for protons, while in the 'proton' semiplane they are symmetrically mirrored.  相似文献

A discussion of gravitational instability of a finitely conducting medium with streams of variable velocity distribution is made in the presence of a uniform magnetic field. It is found that the variable streaming motion shows a destabilizing effect and affects the instability criterion only in the case of general wave propagation. For purely parallel propagation to the direction of the magnetic field and the streaming motion, the criterion is independent of the variation in the streaming motion and further the Jeans's criterion is found to remain unaffected in this case. For purely transverse propagation, the criterion is independent of any streaming motion and the Jeans's criterion remains unaffected. The criterion is further independent of the magnetic field and the finite conductivity except in the case of transverse propagation where the magnetic field exhibits a stabilizing influence in case of an infinitely conducting medium.  相似文献

Analysis of the effects of polarization in lines used in longitudinal (Babcock) and transverse (Severny) magnetographs shows that previous straightforward analyses of observations may lead to spurious results. Measures of the longitudinal magnetic-field strengths in prominences and in the chromosphere have been underestimated by more than 10% whenever the measured field has been less than 10 gauss. Transverse magnetograph results are subject to resonance polarization effects that may dominate the magnetic signal. The panchromatic transverse magnetograph results discussed by Dollfus and Leroy are based solely on curve of growth polarization interpretations. Again, except within a few degrees of the center of the disk, resonance polarization effects can dominate, and radically change, the interpretations of the observations.  相似文献

The influence of the momentum addition, which may be associated with the average or fluctuation transverse component of the magnetic field or others, on the acceleration the solar wind or stellar wind is studied in a local streamtube. The results show that the larger the momentum addition the stronger the acceleration of the wind. For example, if the typical transverse magnetic field is about 0.1 of the longitudinal field, the velocity of the solar wind at 1 AU may be increased by 40%. The coronal hole may be considered as a streamtube, the presence of a high stream from the coronal hole may be explained by the existence of an average or fluctuation transverse magnetic field in the streamtube. A similar conclusion may be applied to the polar region, where the velocity of the solar wind will be larger than elsewhere as if there is a transverse component of magnetic field, as well as to the stellar wind. The influence of other parameters on the acceleration of the solar wind is also discussed. From the viewpoint of the solar wind mechanism, the present paper shows that the momentum addition in the subsonic flow region can increase the velocity of the solar wind at 1 AU.  相似文献

Field-aligned currents (FAC) can be generated during a plasma jet or the motion of a body with a plasma shell in a transverse magnetic field. They can be investigated in an active space experiment. For the proper choice of diagnostics and for evaluation of expected results a laboratory simulation is carried out. The preliminary results show FAC generation in conditions correlated with conditions in space.  相似文献

VLBI total intensity and linear polarization images of the BL Lacertae object OJ 287 have been obtained at     using a global ground array and the HALCA orbiting antenna, and at     two weeks earlier using the VLBA. In the ground-based 6-cm images, the source is dominated by a core–jet double structure the components of which are essentially unresolved. The baselines to the orbiting antenna resolve both of these compact components. In the VSOP images, the ground-based 'core' breaks up into several distinct components, demonstrating that this region is dominated by the contribution of bright, optically thin knots of jet emission. A very similar structure is observed in the 1.3-cm image. The magnetic field in the core is transverse, becomes longitudinal in the inner jet, then makes a sharp transition to a region of transverse field further from the core. This suggests that the field in the outer jet has become highly ordered in the transverse direction owing to the action of a shock; the physical nature of the extended region of longitudinal field closer to the core is not clear. The availability of nearly simultaneous observations with comparable resolution at widely spaced frequencies enabled detection of a ≃90° rotation in polarization position angle for the core, owing to the transition from the optically thick (6 cm) to the optically thin (1.3 cm) regime.  相似文献

Current sheet (CS) creation in a region with anX-type zero magnetic field line in plasma was simulated by numerically solving the 3D MHD equations for conditions which were close to the solar corona: the disturbance propagated from the photosphere boundary under which the magnetic field sources were situated. Some of values (B,,V) were set on the photosphere boundary, while others were determined from the conditions inside the region. Several Alfvén times after its creation, the CS motion practically ceased, and the plasma velocity changed its direction above the sheet, so that the plasma flow was directed into the CS from both sides.  相似文献

The adiabatic motion of charged particles in the magnetosphere has been investigated using Mead-Fairfield magnetospheric field model (Mead and Fairfield, 1975). Since the motion of charged particles in a dipolar field geometry is well understood, we bring out in this paper some important features in characteristic motion due to non-dipolar distortions in the field geometry. We look at the tilt averaged picture of the field configuration and estimate theoretically the parameters like bounce period, longitudinal invariant and the bounce averaged drift velocities of the charged particle in the Mead-Fairfield field geometry. These parameters are evaluated as a function of pitch angle and azimuthal position in the region of ring current (5 to 7 Earth radii from the centre of the Earth) for four ranges of magnetic activity. At different longitudes the non-dipolar contribution as a percentage of dipole value in bounce period and longitudinal invariant show maximum variation for particles close to 90° pitch angles. For any low pitch angle, these effects maximize at the midnight meridian. The radial component of the bounce averaged drift velocity is found to be greatest at the dawn-dusk meridians and the contribution vanishes at the day and midnight meridians for all pitch angles. In the absence of tilt-dependent terms in the model, the latitudinal component of the drift velocity vanishes. On the other hand, the relative non-dipolar contribution to bounce averaged azimuthal drift velocity is very high as compared to similar contribution in other characteristic parameters of particle motion. It is also shown that non-dipolar contribution in bounce period, longitudinal invariant and bounce averaged drift velocities increases in magnitude with increase in distance and magnetic activity.  相似文献

The linear self-gravitational instability of finitely conducting, magnetized viscoelastic fluid is investigated using the modified generalized hydrodynamic (GH) model. A general dispersion relation is obtained with the help of linearized perturbation equations using the normal mode analysis and it is discussed for longitudinal and transverse modes of propagation. In longitudinal propagation, we find that Alfven mode is uncoupled with the gravitating mode. The Jeans criterion of instability is determined which depends upon shear viscosity and bulk viscosity while it is independent of magnetic field. The viscoelastic effects modify the fundamental Jeans criterion of gravitational instability. In transverse mode of propagation, the Alfven mode couples with the acoustic mode, compressional viscoelastic mode and gravitating mode. The growth rate of Jeans instability is compared in weakly coupled plasma (WCP) and strongly coupled plasma (SCP) which is larger for SCP in both the modes of propagations. The presence of finite electrical resistivity removes the effect of magnetic field in the condition of Jeans instability and expression of critical Jeans wavenumber. It is found that Mach number and shear viscosity has stabilizing while finite electrical resistivity has destabilizing influence on the growth rate of Jeans instability.  相似文献

Complex sunspots in four active regions of April and May 1980, all exhibiting regions of magnetic classification delta, were studied using data from the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center vector magnetograph. The vector magnetic field structure in the vicinity of each delta was determined, and the location of the deltas in each active region was correlated with the locations and types of flare activity for the regions. Two types of delta-configuration were found to exist, active and inactive, as defined by the relationships between magnetic field structure and activity. The active delta exhibited high flare activity, strong horizontal gradients of the longitudinal (line-of-sight) magnetic field component, a strong transverse (perpendicular to line-of-sight) component, and a highly non-potential orientation of the photospheric magnetic field, all indications of a highly sheared magnetic field. The inactive delta, on the other hand, exhibited little or no flare production, weaker horizontal gradients of the longitudinal component, weaker transverse components, and a nearly potential, non-sheared orientation of the magnetic field. We conclude that the presence of such sheared fields is the primary signature by which the active delta may be distinguished, and that it is this shear which produces the flare activity of the active delta.NASA Graduate Student Research Fellow.  相似文献

High resolution H filtergrams from Big Bear Solar Observatory reveal that some filamentary features in active regions have fine structure and hence magnetic field transverse to the gross structure and the zero longitudinal field line. These features are distinct from the usual active region filament, in which fine structure, magnetic field and filament are all parallel to the zero longitudinal field line. The latter occur on boundaries between regions of weaker fields while the former occur at boundaries between regions of stronger field.  相似文献
