Spinel lherzolite and pyroxenite xenoliths from the Rio Puerco Volcanic Field, New Mexico, were analyzed for oxygen isotope ratios by laser fluorination. In lherzolites, olivine δ18O values are high (+5.5‰), whereas δ18O values for pyroxenes are low (cpx=+5.1‰; opx=+5.4‰) compared to average mantle values. Pyroxenite δ18O values (cpx=+5.0‰; opx=+5.3‰) are similar to those of the lherzolites and are also lower than typical mantle oxygen isotope compositions. Texturally and chemically primary calcite in pyroxenite xenoliths is far from isotopic equilibrium with other phases, with δ18O values of +21‰. The isotopic characteristics of the pyroxenite xenoliths are consistent with a petrogenetic origin from mixing of lherzolitic mantle with slab-derived silicate and carbonatite melts. The anomalously low δ18O in the pyroxenes reflects metasomatism by a silicate melt from subducted altered oceanic crust, and high δ18O calcite is interpreted to have crystallized from a high δ18O carbonatitic melt derived from subducted ophicarbonate. Similar isotopic signatures of metasomatism are seen throughout the Rio Puerco xenolith suite and at Kilbourne Hole in the southern Rio Grande rift. The discrete metasomatic components likely originated from the subducted Farallon slab but were not mobilized until heating associated with Rio Grande rifting occurred. Oxygen diffusion modeling requires that metasomatism leading to the isotopic disequilibrium between calcite and pyroxene in the pyroxenites occurred immediately prior to entrainment. Melt infiltration into spinel-facies mantle (xenoliths) prior to eruption was thus likely connected to garnet-facies melting that resulted in eruption of the host alkali basalt.  相似文献

The Spessart district (SW Germany), located at the southwestern margin of the Permian Kupferschiefer basin in Central Europe, hosts abundant stratabound and structurally controlled base metal mineralization. The mineralization styles identified are (1) stratabound Cu-Pb-Zn-(Ag) ores in Zechstein sedimentary rocks, (2) structurally controlled Cu-As-(Ag) ores in Zechstein sedimentary rocks, (3) crosscutting Co-Ni-(Bi)-As and Cu-Fe-As veins, (4) stratabound metasomatic Fe-Mn carbonate ores in Zechstein dolomite, (5) barren barite veins, and (6) Fe-Mn-As veins in Permian rhyolites. Building on previous work that involved mineralogical, textural, and chemical characterization of the major mineralization types, we have performed a comprehensive sulfur isotope study that applied both conventional and novel laser-ablation multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry techniques. The δ34S values of sulfide minerals from the different ore types are consistently negative and highly variable, in the range between −44.5‰ and −3.9‰, whereas the δ34S values of barite are all positive in the range between 4.7‰ and 18.9‰. Remarkably, stratabound and structurally controlled mineralization in Zechstein sedimentary rocks has the least negative δ34S values, whereas vein-type deposits have consistently more negative δ34S values. The observed pattern of sulfide δ34S values can be best interpreted in terms of fluid mixing at the basement-cover interface. Hydrothermal fluids originating from the crystalline basement migrated upward along subvertical fault zones and were periodically injected into groundwaters that were flowing in the post-Variscan sedimentary cover. These groundwaters had interacted with the Zechstein sedimentary rocks, resulting in fluids characterized by elevated concentrations of reduced sulfur (with negative δ34S values) and alkaline pH. Repeated mixing between both chemically contrasting fluids caused rapid and efficient precipitation of sulfide ore minerals in hydrothermal veins with highly variable but distinctly negative δ34S values.  相似文献

The mangrove or mud crab, Scylla serrata, is an important component of mangrove fisheries throughout the Indo-Pacific. Understanding crab diets and habitat use should assist in managing these fisheries and could provide additional justification for conservation of the mangrove ecosystem itself. We used multiple chemical tracers to test whether crab movements were restricted to local mangrove forests, or extended to include adjacent seagrass beds and reef flats. We sampled three mangrove forests on the island of Kosrae in the Federated States of Micronesia at Lelu Harbor, Okat River, and Utwe tidal channel. Samples of S. serrata and likely food sources were analyzed for stable carbon (δ13C), nitrogen (δ15N), and sulfur (δ34S) isotopes. Scylla serrata tissues also were analyzed for phosphorus (P), cations (K, Ca, Mg, Na), and trace elements (Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, and B). Discriminant analysis indicated that at least 87% of the crabs remain in each site as distinct populations. Crab stable isotope values indicated potential differences in habitat use within estuaries. Values for δ13C and δ34S in crabs from Okat and Utwe were low and similar to values expected from animals feeding within mangrove forests, e.g., feeding on infauna that had average δ13C values near −26.5‰. In contrast, crabs from Lelu had higher δ13C and δ34S values, with average values of −21.8 and 7.8‰, respectively. These higher isotope values are consistent with increased crab foraging on reef flats and seagrasses. Given that S. serrata have been observed feeding on adjacent reef and seagrass environments on Kosrae, it is likely that they move in and out of the mangroves for feeding. Isotope mixing model results support these conclusions, with the greatest mangrove ecosystem contribution to S. serrata diet occurring in the largest mangrove forests. Conserving larger island mangrove forests (> 1 km deep) appears to support crab foraging activities.  相似文献

Whereas most of the reported δ34S values of dissolved sulphate are positive in the Llobregat basin, Calders stream, which is a tributary of the Llobregat River, is characterised by negative values. Stream waters, sampled monthly between 1997 and 1998, and quarterly in 1999, show an overall increase in δ34S from −10‰ to 0‰, coupled with an increase in Na and Cl concentration. On the other hand, the oxygen isotopic composition of dissolved sulphate, δ18O, displayed an opposite trend with a slight decrease, from +9‰ to +6‰. Detailed sampling up stream in November 2000 indicated that, contrary to most of the surficial waters of the Llobregat basin with a δ34SSO4 mainly controlled by evaporites, in Calders stream, sulphate is derived from pyrite oxidation. The dual-isotope approach, coupled with chemical data, allowed us to identify the contribution of 34S-rich sulphate effluents from anthropogenic sources, while mixing models, calculated between natural and anthropogenic sources, enabled us to estimate their contribution. Sudden increases of δ34S and δ18O of dissolved sulphate in stream waters are believed to be caused by a sulphate reduction process related to oil spillage. The long-term enrichment in δ34S, coupled with a decrease in δ18OSO4, from Jan-97 to Aug-99, is interpreted as a progressive increase in the contribution of pig manure.  相似文献

To characterize the isotopic composition of organisms at the base of the food web and the controls on their variability, the concentration and δ13C isotopic composition of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) and plankton δ13C, δ15N, and δ34S were measured. The measurements were made during periods of high and low river flow in Apalachicola Bay, Florida, United States, over 3 yr. DIC concentration and δ13C values were related to salinity, indicating that conservative mixing of riverine and marine waters was responsible for the overall distributions. The usefulness of DIC δ13C data for characterizing the trophic processes within the estuary was dependent upon the residence time of water within the season. Plankton δ13C values varied from −22‰ to −30‰ and were directly related to estuarine DIC δ13C, offset by a factor of roughly −20‰. This offset factor varied with salinity. Values of δ34S in estuarine plankton (station means ranged from 11.4‰ to 13.1‰) were depleted relative to marine plankton (17.7±0.4‰) possibly due to the admixture of34S-depleted sedimentary sulfide with estuarine samples. Values of δ34S in plankton were not related to δ13C values of plankton and were only weakly correlated to the salinity of the water from which the plankton were collected, indicating that marine sulfate was the primary source of planktonic sulfur. Values of δ15N in plankton varied from 5.5‰ to 10.7‰ and appeared related to dominance of the sample by phytoplankton or zooplankton. Estuarine plankton was15N enriched relative to offshore plankton and estuarine sediment.  相似文献

Gossan Hill is an Archean (∼3.0 Ga) Cu–Zn–magnetite-rich volcanic-hosted massive sulfide (VHMS) deposit in the Yilgarn Craton of Western Australia. Massive sulfide and magnetite occur within a layered succession of tuffaceous, felsic volcaniclastic rocks of the Golden Grove Formation. The Gossan Hill deposit consists of two stratigraphically separate ore zones that are stratabound and interconnected by sulfide veins. Thickly developed massive sulfide and stockwork zones in the north of the deposit are interpreted to represent a feeder zone. The deposit is broadly zoned from a Cu–Fe-rich lower ore zone, upwards through Cu–Zn to Zn–Ag–Au–Pb enrichment in the upper ore zone. New sulfur isotope studies at the Gossan Hill deposit indicate that the variation is wider than previously reported, with sulfide δ34S values varying between −1.6 and 7.8‰ with an average of 2.1 ± 1.4‰ (1σ error). Sulfur isotope values have a broad systematic stratigraphic increase of approximately 1.2‰ from the base to the top of the deposit. This variation in sulfur isotope values is significant in view of typical narrow ranges for Archean VHMS deposits. Copper-rich sulfides in the lower ore zone have a narrower range (δ34S values of −1.6 to 3.4‰, average ∼1.6 ± 0.9‰) than sulfides in the upper ore zone. The lower ore zone is interpreted to have formed from a relatively uniform reduced sulfur source dominated by leached igneous rock sulfur and minor magmatic sulfur. Towards the upper Zn-rich ore zone, an overall increase in δ34S values is accompanied by a wider range of δ34S values, with the greatest variation occurring in massive pyrite at the southern margin of the upper ore zone (−1.0 to 7.8‰). The higher average δ34S values (2.8 ± 2.1‰) and their wider range are explained by mixing of hydrothermal fluids containing leached igneous rock sulfur with Archean seawater (δ34S values of 2 to 3‰) near the paleoseafloor. The widest range of δ34S values at the southern margin of the deposit occurs away from the feeder zone and is attributed to greater seawater mixing away from the central upflow zone. The isotopic composition of dissolved boron, in combination with the elemental concentrations of B, Cl and salinities in freshwater-seawater mixed samples taken from the estuary of the Changjiang River, the largest one in China, was investigated in detail in this study. Brackish water and seawater samples from the estuary of the Changjiang River were collected during low water season in November, 1998. Boron isotopic compositions were determined by the Cs2BO^+2-graphite technique with a analytical uncertainty of 0.2‰ for NIST SRM 951 and an average analytical uncertainty of 0.8‰ for the samples. The isotopic compositions of boron, expressed in δ^11B, and boron concentrations in the Changjiang River at Nanjing and seawater from the open marine East Sea, China, are characterized by δ^11B values of -5.4‰ and 40.0‰, as well as 0.0272 and 4.43 mg B/L, respectively. Well-defined correlations between δ^11B values, B concentrations and Cl concentrations are interpreted in terms of binary mixing between fiver input water and East Sea seawater by a process of straightforward dilution. The offsets of δ^11B values are not related to the contents of clastic sediment and to the addition of boron. These relationships favor a conservative behavior of boron at the estuarine of the Changjiang River.  相似文献

Mid-Proterozoic anorthosite-suite magmatism is a major volumetric component of the southern Grenville Province, and provides an important probe of the compositions and types of lower crustal rocks. The ∼1.15 Ga Morin Complex (Quebec) consists of two anorthosite plutons with distinct compositions. Plagioclase from the western lobe of the anorthosite has δ18O values that average 9.6 ± 0.7‰, which is ∼3‰ higher than the values found in “normal” anorthosites and in mantle-derived mafic igneous rocks worldwide. Plagioclase from the eastern lobe of the massif (deformed by the Morin Shear Zone) has δ18O values that average 8.7 ± 0.6‰, also high compared to mantle-derived rocks. Numerous lines of evidence, including homogeneity of δ18O values within individual plutons, O–Sr–Nd mixing relations, and preservation of igneous δ18O in adjacent mangerite units argue against anorthosite interaction with high δ18O fluids as the cause of the high δ18O values seen in both anorthosite lobes. High δ18O values are best explained as primary magmatic compositions resulting from melting and assimilation of crustal materials by the anorthosite's parent magma. The Morin and Marcy massifs are located in the Allochthonous Monocyclic Belt of the Grenville Province, and have the highest known δ18O values for anorthosites in the Grenville. Although the Monocyclic Belt is juvenile in terms of radiogenic isotope systematics, the new oxygen isotope data indicate the presence high δ18O supracrustal materials at the base of the crust, probably buried during the ∼1.2 Ga Elzevirian orogeny in the Monocyclic Belt prior to anorthosite magmatism. This process is not recognized in other parts of the Grenville Province and points to differences in the pre-1.2-Ga continental margins. Received: 29 September 1999 / Accepted: 7 March 2000  相似文献

Analysis of δ18O in igneous zircons of known age traces the evolution of intracrustal recycling and crust-mantle interaction through time. This record is especially sensitive because oxygen isotope ratios of igneous rocks are strongly affected by incorporation of supracrustal materials into melts, which commonly have δ18O values higher than in primitive mantle magmas. This study summarizes data for δ18O in zircons that have been analyzed from 1,200 dated rocks ranging over 96% of the age of Earth. Uniformly primitive to mildly evolved magmatic δ18O values are found from the first half of Earth history, but much more varied values are seen for younger magmas. The similarity of values throughout the Archean, and comparison to the composition of the “modern” mantle indicate that δ18O of primitive mantle melts have remained constant (±0.2‰) for the past 4.4 billion years. The range and variability of δ18O in all Archean zircon samples is subdued (δ18O(Zrc)=5–7.5‰) ranging from values in high temperature equilibrium with the mantle (5.3± 0.3‰) to slightly higher, more evolved compositions (6.5–7.5‰) including samples from: the Jack Hills (4.4–3.3 Ga), the Beartooth Mountains (4.0–2.9 Ga), Barberton (3.5–2.7 Ga), the Superior and Slave Provinces (3.0 to 2.7 Ga), and the Lewisian (2.7 Ga). No zircons from the Archean have been analyzed with magmatic δ18O above 7.5‰. The mildly evolved, higher Archean values (6.5–7.5‰) are interpreted to result from exchange of protoliths with surface waters at low temperature followed by melting or contamination to create mildly elevated magmas that host the zircons. During the Proterozoic, the range of δ18O(Zrc) and the highest values gradually increased in a secular change that documents maturation of the crust. After ∼1.5 Ga, high δ18O zircons (8 to >10‰) became common in many Proterozoic and Phanerozoic terranes reflecting δ18O(whole rock) values from 9 to over 12‰. The appearance of high δ18O magmas on Earth reflects nonuniformitarian changes in the composition of sediments, and rate and style of recycling of surface-derived material into magmas within the crust. Stable isotopic ratios of carbon and oxygen (δ13C and δ18O) from mollusk shells reflect the water quality characteristics of Florida Bay and can be used to characterize the great temporal variability of the bay. Values of δ18O are directly influenced by temperature and evaporation and may be related to salinity, δ13C values of δ13C are sensitive to organic and inorganic sources of carbon and are influenced by productivity. Analyses of eight mollusk species from five short-core localities across Florida Bay show large ranges in the values of δ13C and δ18O, and reflect the variation of the bay over decades. Samples from southwester Florida Bay have distinct δ13C values relative to samples collected in northeastern Florida Bay, and intermediate localities have intermediate values.13C values of δ13C grade from marine in the southwest bay to more estuarine in the northeast. Long cores (>1m), with excellent chronologies were analyzed from central and eastern Florida Bay. Preliminary analyses ofBrachiodontes exustus andTransenella spp. from the cores showed that both δ13C and δ18O changed during the first part of the twentieth century. After a century of relative stability during the 1800s, δ13C decreased between about 1910 and 1940, then stabilized at these new values for the next five decades. The magnitude of the reduction in δ13C values increased toward the northeast. Using a carbon budget model, reduced δ13C values are interpreted as resulting from decreased circulation in the bay, probably associated with decreased freshwater flow into the Bay. Mollusk shell δ18O values display several negative excursions during the 1800s, suggesting that the bay was less evaporitic than during the twentieth century. The isotope records indicate a fundamental change took place in Florida Bay circulation early in the twentieth century. The timing of the change links it to railroad building and early drainage efforts in South Florida rather than to flood control and water management measures initiated after World War II.  相似文献

Hydrogen and oxygen isotope analyses have been made of hydrous minerals in gabbros and basaltic xenoliths from the Eocene Kap Edvard Holm intrusive complex of East Greenland. The analyzed samples are of three types: (1) primary igneous hornblendes and phlogopites that crystallized from partial melts of hydrothermally altered basaltic xenoliths, (2) primary igneous hornblendes that formed during late–magmatic recrystallization of layered gabbroic cumulates, and (3) secondary actinolite, epidote and chlorite that formed during subsolidus alteration of both xenoliths and gabbros. Secondary actinolite has a δ18O value of −5.8‰ and a δD value of −158‰. These low values reflect subsolidus alteration by low–δ18O, low–δD hydrothermal fluids of meteoric origin. The δD value is lower than the −146 to −112‰ values previously reported for amphiboles from other early Tertiary meteoric–hydrothermal systems in East Greenland and Scotland, indicating that the meteoric waters at Kap Edvard Holm were isotopically lighter than typical early Tertiary meteoric waters in the North Atlantic region. This probably reflects local climatic variations caused by formation of a major topographic dome at about the time of plutonism and hydrothermal activity. The calculated isotopic composition of the meteoric water is δD=−110 ± 10‰, δ18O ≈−15‰. Igneous hornblendes and phlogopites from pegmatitic pods in hornfelsed basaltic xenoliths have δ18O values between −6.0 and −3.8‰ and δD values between −155 and −140‰. These are both much lower than typical values of fresh basalts. The oxygen isotope fractionations between pegmatitic hornblendes and surrounding hornfelsic minerals are close to equilibrium fractionations for magmatic temperatures, indicating that the pegmatites crystallized from low–δ18O partial melts of xenoliths that had been hydrothermally altered and depleted in 18O prior to stoping. The pegmatitic minerals may have crystallized with low primary δD values inherited from the altered country rocks, but these values were probably overprinted extensively by subsolidus isotopic exchange with low–δD meteoric–hydrothermal fluids. This exchange was facilitated by rapid self–diffusion of hydrogen through the crystal structures. Primary igneous hornblendes from the plutonic rocks have δ18O values between +2.0 and +3.2‰ and δD values between −166 and −146‰. The 18O fractionations between hornblendes and coexisting augites are close to equilibrium fractionations for magmatic temperatures, indicating that the hornblendes crystallized directly from the magma and subsequently underwent little or no oxygen exchange. The hornblendes may have crystallized with low primary δD values, due to contamination of the magma with altered xenolithic material, but the final δD values were probably controlled largely by subsolidus isotopic exchange. This inference is based partly on the observation that coexisting plagioclase has been extensively depleted in 18O via a mineral–fluid exchange reaction that is much slower than the hydrogen exchange reaction in hornblende. It is concluded that all hydrous minerals in the study area, whether igneous or secondary, have δD values that reflect extensive subsolidus isotopic equilibration with meteoric–hydrothermal fluids. An integrated faunal and geochemical dataset has been generated by the study of a late Miocene (early Tortonian) sedimentary section outcropping at Manassi, Levkas Island (eastern Mediterranean). Quantitative analysis of benthic foraminifers from the 25-m-thick section indicates changes of bottom palaeoecological conditions in this part of the eastern Mediterranean, during the analyzed time interval. Benthic foraminifer assemblages are typical of a bathyal environment and testify to relatively oxygenated conditions with low to moderate food supply alternating with periods with an increase in organic matter content. The long-term palaeoceanographic analyses indicate an anti-estuarine circulation model based on the benthic foraminifer and stable isotope results, which evolved in a strong estuarine circulation. The positive relationship existing between the plankton δ18O and δ13C, in most of the record, agrees well with the hypothesis of a variable contribution of runoff. In three stratigraphic levels, samples record heavy bottom water δ18O and δ13C values and light surface δ18O values, representing a wet, warm, estuarine climate with a stratified water column. In two stratigraphic levels, samples have depleted δ13C and δ18O values for both surface and bottom waters. These two samples represent wet, warm climates with some ocean mixing and stratification. The stable isotope signal of foraminifer tests from the Manassi section was influenced by the global temperature changes, but the local factors also played an important role. The palaeoenvironments derived from stable isotope analysis in this study are interpreted as responses to the local tectonic instability together with monsoon intensities that enhanced continental runoff, characteristic for the time interval studied in the study area. Due to the limited data available from this study, no correlations with the precessional, obliquity, or eccentricity cycles can be made.  相似文献

The present study focused on detecting variations in trophic relationships among blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) consumers according to water quality along two estuaries in North Carolina. Stable isotope (δ15N and δ13C) analyses of particulate organic matter and bivalve(Rangia cuneata andCorbicula fluminea) food sources were examined in combination with an Isosource mixing model. Results suggest that blue crab δ13C values increased significantly with increasing salinity from upper to lower sites along the Neuse River estuary (NRE; R2 = 0.87, p < 0.01) and Alligator River estuary (R2 = 0.92, p < 0.01). There was a positive relationship between blue crab δ15N values and nitrate concentrations for the NRE (R2 = 0.48, p = 0.12). This study found that blue crab δ13C values increased with salinity from upper to lower regions along both estuaries. Results suggest that blue crab production may have used alternative food sources that were isotopically (δ13C) depleted, especially in the upper NRE, and enriched sources in the mid to lower regions of both estuaries. Consumers sampled from the upper NRE may be influenced by higher nitrogen input from urban land use and municipal wastewater.  相似文献

Groundwater is of utmost significance to socio-economic development and ecological recovery for the Loess Plateau. However, studies regarding the mechanism governing groundwater recharge over this area appear to be inadequate. This study is to examine the spatio-temporal variations of δ2H and δ18O in precipitation and shallow groundwater. On the basis of this, the mechanisms governing shallow groundwater recharge were explored. Precipitation and groundwater were sampled monthly from May to October during the period 2004–2006 at 13 sites in the Chabagou Catchment (187 km2). In the Caopingxigou Experimental Watershed (0.1 km2), meteorological variables were observed and rainfall larger than 5 mm was sampled immediately after each rain event. Across the area, 90% of the precipitation occurred from May to September primarily in the form of heavy rains or rainstorms with great spatial variability. There were about 30 localized rains in each year. It was indicated that there existed notable seasonality and pronounced spatial variability in precipitation isotopic compositions. Contributing factors and indications of isotopic compositions, as well as their climatic indications such as monsoon intensities and mixing processes of water vapor, were investigated. The δ2H–δ18O relation of groundwater was found to be δ2H = 3.22 × δ18O − 38.1, deviating from the local meteoric water line δ2H = 7.57 × δ18O + 3.9. The range of δ values in groundwater is shrunken to be 15–21% of that in individual precipitations, and groundwater in the middle reaches shows a wider range of δ values. Isotopic results showed that groundwater originates from precipitation with hydrogen and oxygen isotopic compositions being −69 and −9.7‰, respectively, and most groundwater experiences serious evaporation and adequate mixing with old water during infiltration or percolation in the aerated zone. It was also founded that obvious fluctuations of isotopic compositions in groundwater mainly appear in the middle reaches especially at sites that are close to valleys, suggesting varying sources of groundwater from precipitation, precipitation runoff, isotopically enriched surface water and/or lateral recharge of adjacent groundwater.  相似文献

Summary The oxygen and strontium isotope compositions of the Cambro-Ordovician granitoids cropping out in the Wilson Terrane (Granite Harbour Intrusives–GHI) constrain the petrological evolution of the magmatism in Antarctica, related to the Ross Orogeny. The measured δ18OWR values of these intrusives define three different compositional groups: the metaluminous rocks (MAG), with δ18OWR ranging from 6.9 (olivine gabbro) to 11.4‰ (monzogranite); the unaltered peraluminous granites (PAG), having δ18OWR values ranging from 10.6 to 13.2‰, and the foliated peraluminous leucogranites (SKG), characterised by δ18OWR values above 14‰. The analysis of equilibrium mineral assemblages indicates that the high δ18OWR values are magmatic and unaffected by low-temperature processes. A few peraluminous granites sampled in the vicinity of Cenozoic intrusions show anomalously low δ18OWR, due to meteoric-hydrothermal alteration. The isotopic data indicate that the coeval and spatially related metaluminous mafic and felsic intrusives forming the GHI were not comagmatic: the mafic and intermediate rocks were likely derived from lower crustal contamination of a pristine basaltic magma; their δ18OWR values were also increased during emplacement, due to the interaction with the adjacent 18O-rich hydrous felsic magmas (mixing). Oxygen isotope data indicate that the crustal sources producing the Granite Harbour intrusives were not homogeneous: the felsic metaluminous intrusives were produced by partial melting of fertile rock with possible igneous origin, whereas partial melting of a metapelitic source rock is claimed for the genesis of the peraluminous granites. The sedimentary succession of Gallocanta lake, a closed saline lake located in the Iberian Range (NE Spain), documents two successive lacustrine stages: (1) brackish lake stage and (2) shallow saline lake stage. The saline stage corresponds to the present-day situation in which the lake water properties are mainly controlled by a strongly negative annual water balance. The carbonates of the brackish lake stage have relatively constant δ18O values, however, they are rather high (δ18ODo = 2.4‰ and δ18OCc = 4.5‰ mean values) suggesting a hydrologically closed lake with a long residence time of the waters. δ18O values of carbonates from the saline stage vary greatly, and are lighter than in the previous stage (δ18ODo = 0.5‰, δ18OCc = −0.7‰, δ18OMgs = −2.3‰ mean values). These carbonates also precipitated in a hydrologically closed lake, but in equilibrium with a lake water of more variable isotopic composition. The δ13C values for carbonates of both stages reflect a mixing of different pools of carbon, but during saline stage δ13C values have been more controlled by the equilibrium of the lake waters with atmospheric CO2. During the current stage, calcite and dolomite precipitate in Gallocanta lake mainly during spring and summer, although dolomite precipitation is more favoured towards the summer. Magnesite precipitates at the beginning of autumn, when the first rainfall re-dissolves the saline surface crust, producing saline waters with a high Mg2+ content. The isotopic composition of lake waters sampled in 2005 are far higher than those calculated from the carbonates. It is considered that this could be due to two factors: either because there have not been many extremely dry years (like the year 2005) during the development of the lake, or because the physical and chemical characteristics of the lake waters in such conditions are not appropriate for the development of these minerals.  相似文献

This is the first study of δ13C values that considers elevational influences of the Qilian mountains of China. The δ13C values of different parts of the Qilian juniper (Sabina przewalskii Kom.) at different elevations of the Qilian mountains, China, were measured. Relatively constant differences in δ13C values existed between the tree leaves and the trunk wood. No strong dependency of δ13C values on elevation was found. The temporal changes of wood δ13C values with directions, elevations and height in the tree showed general similarity. These results suggest that the isotopic effects of environmental factors expressed initially at the site of photosynthesis, i.e., the leaves could be contained in the trunks of a tree. Regardless of elevation, direction or height in the tree, wood δ13C values have been decreasing during the past 60 years. A composite 600-year δ13C chronology developed from four trees showed that δ13C values remain relatively constant before 1800. After 1800 AD, however, δ13C values became significantly more negative. The trend in wood δ13C values was consistent with that obtained for δ13C values in atmospheric CO2. The results showed that for Qilian juniper, tree-ring δ13C chronology could be established to ascertain fluctuations of the atmospheric δ13C.  相似文献

Substantial differences in isotopic compositions of micas and pyrophyllites from metasomatites related to various stages of the process that formed the giant Gai massive sulfide deposit have been established. The illite from the earliest and predominant chlorite-illite-quartz metasomatite is characterized by the least δD values of −(50–85)‰ and δ18O=7–11‰. The pyrophyllite-quartz metasomatite as well as illite and pyrophyllite schists developed locally in the southern part of the deposit that likely correspond to the site of discharge of late geothermal paleosystem, contain pyrophyllite and illite with much higher values of δD=−(25–45)‰ and δ18O=4–9‰. Local zones of illite-paragonite schist complete the mineral formation and are characterized by the transitional δD values of −(30–55)‰ and elevated δ18O of 10–11‰. The most plausible model of isotopic evolution in the hydrothermal system, with an initial temperature of mica formation at 250°C, assumes the mixing of transformed sea water with a magmatic (metamorphic) water at the initial stage when the background metasomatites and massive sulfide orebodies of the northern lode have been formed. Subsequently, after the burial of the northern lode beneath basaltic andesite flows, the repeated sea water invasions took place in the southern discharge site of the system. As a result, the pyrophyllite-quartz metasomatite was formed; the pyrophyllite and illite schists originated in tectonic compression zones. The interaction of this water with silicate rocks was completed by a formation of illite-paragonite schist. In general, the substantial contribution of sea water to the formation of metasomatic halo of the deposit casts no doubt.  相似文献

Gold Bar is one of several Carlin-type gold mining districts located in the Battle Mountain–Eureka trend, Nevada. It is composed of one main deposit, Gold Bar; five satellite deposits; and four resources that contain 1.6 Moz (50 t) of gold. All of the deposits and resources occur at the intersection of north-northwest- and northeast-trending high-angle faults in slope facies limestones of the Devonian Nevada Group exposed in windows through Ordovician basin facies siliciclastic rocks of the Roberts Mountains allochthon. Igneous intrusions and magnetic anomalies are notably absent. The Gold Bar district contains a variety of discordant and stratabound jasperoid bodies, especially along the Wall Fault zone, that were mapped and studied in some detail to identify the attributes of those most closely associated with gold ore and to constrain genetic models. Four types of jasperoids, J0, J1, J2, and J3, were distinguished on the basis of their geologic and structural settings and appearance. Field relations suggest that J0 formed during an early event. Petrographic observations, geochemistry, and δ18O values of quartz suggest it was overprinted by the hydrothermal event that produced ore-related J1, J2, and J3 jasperoids and associated gold deposits. The greater amount of siliciclastic detritus present in J0 jasperoids caused them to have higher δ18O values than J1,2,3 jasperoids hosted in underlying limestones. Ore-related jasperoids are composed of main-ore-stage replacements and late-ore-stage open-space filling quartz with variable geochemistry and an enormous range of δ18O values (24.5 and −3.7‰). Jasperoids hosted in limestones with the most anomalous Au, Ag, Hg, ±(As, Sb, Tl) concentrations and the highest δ18O values are associated with the largest deposits. The 28‰ range of jasperoid δ18O values is best explained by mixing between an 18O-enriched fluid and an 18O-depleted fluid. The positive correlation between the sizes of gold deposits and the δ18O composition of jasperoids indicates that gold was introduced by the 18O-enriched fluid. The lowest calculated δ18O value for water in equilibrium with late-ore-stage quartz at 200°C (−15‰) and the measured δD value of fluid inclusion water extracted from late-ore-stage orpiment and realgar (−116‰) indicate that the 18O-depleted fluid was composed of relatively unexchanged meteoric water. The source of the 18O-enriched ore fluid is not constrained. The δ34S values of late-ore-stage realgar, orpiment, and stibnite (5.7–15.5‰) and barite (31.5–40.9‰) suggest that H2S and sulfate were derived from sedimentary sources. Likewise, the δ13C and δ18O values of late-stage calcite (−4.8 to 1.5‰ and 11.5 to 17.4‰, respectively) suggest that CO2 was derived from marine limestones. Based on these data and the apparent absence of any Eocene intrusions in the district, Gold Bar may be the product of a nonmagmatic hydrothermal system.  相似文献

The Jinman deposit is a Ag-bearing copper vein deposit located at the north margin of the Lanping-Simao back-arc basin in West Yunnan. Systematic studies of fluid inclusions and stable isotopes are presented in this paper. The filling-replacement stage and the boiling-exhalative precipitation stage of mineralization took place atT 1 = 140–280°3 andT 2 = 94–204°C under pressure of (600 – 1200) x 105 Pa. The salinity of ore-forming solutions ranges from 5 wt% –20.8 wt% (NaCl). Sulphide δ34S(CDT) values are in the range of -9.6%.– +11.03%. with a range of 22. 66%. showing an apparent “pagoda”-shaped distribution in histogram. Meanwhile, the δ34S values of the various sulphides are consistent with the characters of isotope equilibrium fractionation, i.e., δ34 SPy34SCp34SBn. The TS/TOC ratios of the ores are widely variable between 0.16 and 5.54 with no correlation of any kind can be established. According to the model of Ohmoto, the oxidation-reduction ratios of sulfur species in ore-forming solutions at the two mineralization stages were calculated to be R′1 = 2.16 x 10-17 and R′2 = 1.55 x 104. δ13Coo2(PDB) values obtained from fluid inclusions in calcite and quartz are between -8.12%.-3.18%., averaging -5.26%., which are comparable with the isotopic composition of mantle-derived CO2. Inclusions in quartz yield δ13CCH4 (PEB) between -32. 11%. and -22.04%. (averaging -26.69%.), similar to that of methane in modern geothermal gases. For the ore-forming solutions, δ18 OH2O (SMOW) values are between -10.57%. and +9.77%. and δDH2O (SMOW) are between -51%. and -135%. Considering the effect of isotope exchange during water-rock reactions, most of the data are plotted along or close to the line defined by the reaction of meteoric water with clastic rocks, while a small part of the points fall near the reaction line of magmatic water with clastic rocks. In δ13C vs. δ18O diagram, the ore-forming solutions are plotted for the most part into the mixing area between the meteoric fluid and the deep-seated fluid and partially on the mixing line of P = 1. This project was founded by the “Eighth Five-Year Plan Period” State Key Program (85–901) and the Open Lab. of Ore Deposit Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences.  相似文献
