In this paper the formulation of the problem and preliminary numerical computation results of the thermosphere-ionosphere-protonosphere system parameters are discussed. The model constructed describes time-dependent distributions of the multicomponent near-earth space plasma parameters by means of numerical integration of the appropriate three-dimensional plasma hydrodynamic equations. In the thermospheric block of the model, global distribution of neutral gas temperature and N2, O2, O concentrations, as well as three-dimensional circulation of the neutral gas are calculated in the range of height from 80 km to 520 km. In the ionospheric section of the model, global time-dependent distribution of ion and electron temperatures, as well as molecular and atomic O+, H+ ion concentrations are calculated. Global two-dimensional distribution of electric potential is calculated taking into account computed thermosphere and ionosphere parameters. The inputs needed for our global model are the solar EUV spectrum; the auroral precipitation pattern; the distribution of the field-aligned currents and the model of the geomagnetic field.Preliminary results are obtained without regard to electromagnetic plasma drift for the solar minimum, low geomagnetic activity and spring equinox conditions. Global distributions of the calculated parameters in the magnetic dipole latitude-longitude frame are presented for 1200 UT. In the summary ignored processes and future direction are discussed.  相似文献

The Global Coupled Ionosphere–Thermosphere-Electrodynamics Model developed at Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (GCITEM-IGGCAS), is introduced in this paper. This new model self-consistently calculates the time-dependent three-dimensional (3-D) structures of the main thermospheric and ionospheric parameters in the height range from 90 to 600 km, including neutral number density of major species O2, N2, and O and minor species N(2D), N(4S), NO, He and Ar; ion number densities of O+ ,O2+, N2+, NO+, N+ and electron; neutral, electron and ion temperature; and neutral wind vectors. The mid- and low-latitude electric fields can also be self-consistently calculated. GCITEM-IGGCAS is a full 3-D code with 5° latitude by 7.5° longitude cells in a spherical geographical coordinate system, which bases on an altitude grid. We show two simulations in this paper: a March Equinox one and a June Solstice one, and compare their simulation results to MSIS00 and IRI2000 empirical model. GCITEM-IGGCAS can reproduce the main features of the thermosphere and ionosphere in both cases.  相似文献

Dew samples were collected between October 2007 and February 2008 from a suburban site in Agra. pH, conductivity, major inorganic ions (F?, Cl?, NO 3 ? , SO 4 2? , Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, and NH 4 + ), and some trace metals (Cr, Sn, Zn, Pb, Cd, Ni, Mn, Fe, Si, Al, V, and Cu) were determined to study the chemistry of dew water. The mean pH was 7.3, and the samples exhibited high ionic concentrations. Dew chemistry suggested both natural and anthropogenic influences, with acidity being neutralized by atmospheric ammonia and soil constituents. Ion deposition flux varied from 0.25 to 3.0?neq?m?2?s?1, with maximum values for Ca2+ followed by NH 4 + , Mg2+, SO 4 2? , Cl?, NO 3 ? , Na+, K+, and F?. Concentrations of trace metals varied from 0.13 to 48?μg?l?1 with maximum concentrations of Si and minimum concentration of Cd. Correlation analysis suggested their contributions from both crustal and anthropogenic sources.  相似文献

The relative rate constants of O2(b1Σ g + , v= 1–4) production at an inelastic interaction between electronically excited N(2D) atoms and O2(X3Σ g ? , v = 0) oxygen molecules have been calculated. It was shown that an increase in equilibrium distances between oxygen atoms in NO2 quasi-molecule, produced during the interaction, substantially increases the calculated relative production rates of O2(b1Σ g + , v > 1). The obtained coefficients are used to calculate the O2(b1Σ g + , v= 1–4) relative populations at 110 km (T = 250 K) and 150 km (T = 500 K) altitudes of the polar ionosphere. The calculated populations have been compared with the results of the published measurements of the Atmospheric system band luminosity intensities, and satisfactory agreement has been obtained for low altitudes.  相似文献

Ion Chemistry of the Ionosphere at E- and F-Region Altitudes: A Review   总被引:2,自引:2,他引:0
The current state of knowledge of E- and F-region ion chemistry is reviewed. Considerable attention is given to the progress in the chemistry of unexcited N2 +, O2 +, NO+, O+(4S), N+, H+, He+, Fe+, Mg+, Na+, Ca+, and K+ ions and electronically excited O+(2D), O+(2P), O+(4P), and $ {\text{O}}^{ + } (^{2} {\text{P}}^{*} ) $ ions. Achievements in our understanding of the role of vibrationally excited N2 +, O2 +, and NO+ ions in the ionosphere are discussed.  相似文献

Pulsating of the generalized ion and neutral polar winds   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
A three-dimensional, time-dependent model of the ion and neutral polar winds was used to study their dynamic evolution during the May 4, 1998 magnetic storm. The simulation tracked the dynamics of five species (O+, H+, Hs, Os, and electrons) and covered a 9-h period. During the storm, Dst decreased to −210 nT, Ap reached 300, and Kp was elevated. The IMF Bz component was southward at the start of the storm and for several hours thereafter and then turned northward. However, the magnetospheric energy input to the ionosphere exhibited a 50-min oscillation, with the plasma convection and particle precipitation patterns expanding and contracting in a periodic manner. As a consequence, the ion and neutral polar winds pulsated with an approximate 50-min period. The H+ and O+ ions displayed cyclic upflows and downflows in the topside ionosphere as well as a highly structured spatial distribution that varied with time. The vertical flux of the neutral Hs atoms was upward at the top of the ionosphere, but the magnitude varied in a cyclic manner in response to the oscillating stormtime energy input. The vertical flux of neutral Os atoms was downward at the top of the ionosphere and varied significantly with the stormtime energy input. For H+, O+, and Hs, the maximum total (integrated) vertical flux during the storm was upward at the top of the ionosphere, with values of 8–9×1025 particles/s for H+, 2–4×1026 particles/s for O+, and 2–3×1027 particles/s for Hs. The corresponding total vertical Os flux was predominately downward, with only localized areas with positive fluxes.  相似文献

It has been clearly established that there is a substantial outflow of ionospheric plasma from the Earth's ionosphere in both the northern and southern polar regions. The outflow consists of both light thermal ions (H+ and He+) and an array of energized ions (NO+, O2+, N2+, O+, N+, He+, and H+). If the outflow is driven by thermal pressure gradients in the ionosphere, the outflow is called the “classical” polar wind. On the other hand, if the outflow is driven by energization processes either in the auroral oval or at high altitudes in the polar cap, the outflow is called the “generalized” polar wind. In both cases, the field-aligned outflow occurs in conjunction with magnetospheric convection, which causes the plasma to drift into and out of the sunlit hemisphere, cusp, polar cap, nocturnal auroral oval, and main trough. Because the field-aligned and horizontal motion are both important, three-dimensional (3-D) time-dependent models of the ionosphere–polar wind system are needed to properly describe the flow. Also, as the plasma executes field-aligned and horizontal motion, charge exchange reactions of H+ and O+ with the background neutrals (H and O) act to produce low-energy neutrals that flow in all directions (the neutral polar wind). This review presents recent simulations of the “global” ionosphere–polar wind system, including the classical, generalized, and neutral polar winds. The emphasis is on displaying the 3-D and dynamical character of the polar wind.  相似文献

Rock masses contain ubiquitous multiscale heterogeneities, which (or whose boundaries) serve as the surfaces of discontinuity for some characteristics of the stress state, e.g., for the orientation of principal stress axes. Revealing the regularities that control these discontinuities is a key to understanding the processes taking place at the boundaries of the heterogeneities and for designing the correct procedures for reconstructing and theoretical modeling of tectonic stresses. In the present study, the local laws describing the refraction of the axes of extreme principal stresses T 1 (maximal tension in the deviatoric sense) and T 3 (maximal compression) of the Cauchy stress tensor at the transition over the elementary area n of discontinuity whose orientation is specified by the unit normal n are derived. It is assumed that on the area n of discontinuity, frictional contact takes place. No hypotheses are made on the constitutive equations, and a priori constraints are not posed on the orientation on the stress axes. Two domains, which adjoin area n on the opposite sides and are conventionally marked + and ?, are distinguished. In the case of the two-dimensional (2D) stress state, any principal stress axis on passing from domain ? to domain + remains in the same quadrant of the plane as the continuation of this axis in domain +. The sign and size of the refraction angle depend on the sign and amplitude of the jump of the normal stress, which is tangential to the surface of discontinuity. In the three-dimensional (3D) case, the refraction of axes T 1 and T 3 should be analyzed simultaneously. For each side, + and ?, the projections of the T 1 and T 3 axes on the generally oriented plane n form the shear sectors S + and S ?, which are determined unambiguously and to whose angular domains the possible directions p + and p ? of the shear stress vectors belong. In order for the extreme stress axes T 1 + ,T 3 + and T 1 ? , T 3 ? to be statically compatible on the generally oriented plane n, it is required that sectors S + and S ? had a nonempty intersection. The direction vectors p + and p ? are determined uniquely if, besides axes T 1 ? , T 3 ? and T 1 + , T 3 + , also the ratios of differential stresses R + and R ? (0 ≤ R ± ≤ 1) are known. This is equivalent to specifying the reduced stress tensors T R + and T R ? The necessary condition for tensors T R + and T R ? being statically compatible on plane n is the equality p + = p ?. In this paper, simple methods are suggested for solving the inverse problem of constructing the set of the orientations of the extreme stress axes from the known direction p of the shear stress vector on plane n and from the data on the shear sector. Based on these methods and using the necessary conditions of local equilibrium on plane n formulated above, all the possible orientations of axes T 1 + , T 3 + are determined if the projections of axes T 1 ? , T 3 ? axes on side — are given. The angle between the projections of axes T 1 + , T 1 ? and/or T 3 + , T 3 ? on the plane can attain 90°. Besides the general case, also the particular cases of the contact between the degenerate stress states and the special position of plane n relative to the principal stress axes are thoroughly examined. Generalization of the obtained results makes it possible to plot the local diagram of the orientations of axes T 1 + , T 3 + for a given sector S ?. This diagram is a so-called stress orientation sphere, which is subdivided into three pairs of areas (compression, tension, and compression-extension). The tension and compression zones cannot contain the poles of T 3 + and T 1 + axes, respectively. The compression-extension zones can contain the poles of either T 1 + or T 3 + axis but not both poles simultaneously. In the particular case when the shear stress vector has a unique direction p ? on side ?, the areas of compression-extension disappear and the diagram is reduced to a beach-ball plot, which visualizes the focal mechanism solution of an earthquake. If area n is a generally oriented plane and if the orientation of the pairs of the statically compatible axes T 1 ? , T 3 ? and T 1 + , T 3 + is specified, then, the stress values on side + are uniquely determined from the known stress values on side ?. From the value of differential stress ratio R ?, one can calculate the value of R +, and using the values of the principal stresses on side ?, determine the total stress tensor T + on side +. The obtained results are supported by the laboratory experiments and drilling data. In particular, these results disclose the drawbacks of some established notions and methods in which the possible refraction of the stress axes is unreasonably ignored or taken into account improperly. For example, it is generally misleading to associate the slip on the preexisting fault with the orientation of any particular trihedron of the principal stress axes. The reconstruction should address the potentially statically compatible principal stress axes, which are differently oriented on opposite sides of the fault plane. The fact that, based on the orientation of the intraplate principal stresses at the base of the lithosphere, one cannot make a conclusion on the active or passive influence of the mantle flows on the lithospheric plate motion is another example. The present relationships linking the stress values on the opposite sides of the fault plane on which the orientations of the principal stress axes are known demonstrate the incorrectness of the existing methods, in which the reduced stress tensors within the material domains are reconstructed without allowance for the dynamic interaction of these domains with their neighbors. In addition, using the obtained results, one can generalize the notion of the zone of dynamical control of a fault onto the case of the existence of discontinuities in this region and analyze the stress transfer across the system of the faults.  相似文献

A model of auroral precipitation (AP) developed on the basis of statistical processing of DMSP F6 and F7 satellite data (Vorobjev and Yagodkina, 2005, 2007) was used for the calculation of the global distribution of the auroral luminosity in different spectral ranges. The algorithm for the calculation of the integral intensity in bands N2 LBH (170.0 nm), ING N 2 + (391.4 nm), 1PG N2 (669.0 nm), and (OI) 557.7-nm emission is shown in detail. The processes of formation of electronically excited atoms O(1S) as a result of the transport of excitation energy from metastable state N2(A3Σ u + ), excitation of O(3P) by primary and secondary electrons, and dissociative recombination were taken into account to calculate the intensity of emission at 557.7 nm. A high correlation between the model distribution of the auroral luminosity in the UV spectral range and the observations of the Polar satellite is demonstrated.  相似文献

We report initial results of data modeling and assimilation studies for several MU radar experiments. Various inputs to a one-dimensional ionospheric model are adjusted to provide agreement with observation and also to learn the sensitivity of the model to their variations. Certain observations are also used directly in the model to anchor or constrain its behavior. In particular, studies of the electron density from 100 to 500 km altitude in the ionosphere are carried out with the help of a theoretical model of O+, NO+, O+2 and N+2 densities and MU radar observations of the power, ion-drift and plasma-temperature profiles. Four typical cases are selected to study quantitatively the effects of the (A) perpendicular-north component of the plasma drift (15 December 1986), (B) atmospheric composition (7 October 1986), (C) solar EUV flux (2 August 1989) and (D) upper-boundary O+ density (5 October 1989) on the model NmF2, hmF2 and Ne profile, as well as on the neutral wind calculation from hmF2 and drift data. It is found that the measured vertical ion drift explains quantitatively well the measured hmF2 (particularly at low solar activity) while the model gives a better match with the measured Ne when it uses the hmF2-based wind rather than the measured plasma drift. Different model values of the atmospheric O/N2 ratio and EUV flux and different values of the upper-bound O+ density may modify not only NmF2 markedly but also hmF2: a lower O/N2 ratio results in higher hmF2; the EUVAC model gives higher hmF2 at high solar activity than does the EUV91 model; with a smaller upper-bound O+ density, hmF2 is lower by day but little changed by night. We specifically note that the meridional wind needed by the model to reproduce the observed hmF2 differed according to how well the model reproduced the observed NmF2. The uncertainties in the MSIS86 and EUV model predictions are also discussed. It is found that if the MSIS and EUV91 models are used together, the model gives an NmF2 higher than that measured at high solar activity. Thus the O/N2 ratio needs to be reduced from the MSIS value if EUV91 is used. If EUVAC is used, no large modification is required. At equinox for low solar activity, modeling with either EUV model produces NmF2 values lower than those measured, and so the true O/N2 ratio may be higher than that given by MSIS model.  相似文献

The use of submersed macrophyte tissue δ 15N to quantify the level of WWTP effluent use in a highly urbanized and agricultural river was evaluated using several methods. Macrophytes, NH4 + and NO3 ? were collected by canoe along two 10 km reaches of river, upstream and downstream of two major municipal WWTPs over 3 years. NH4 + decreased in concentration while δ 15N–NH4 + increased as a function of distance downstream of both WWTPs, changing in one survey from 13 to 31 ‰ over 1 km. This increase is attributed to the combined effects of volatilization, nitrification and uptake. While NO 3 ? concentrations increased downstream of the WWTP over one of the survey reaches, δ 15N–NO 3 ? showed no prominent trend with distance at either. Macrophyte tissue δ 15N increased with distance downstream of both WWTPs, with a slope not significantly different from that of δ 15N–NH4 + suggesting that macrophytes incorporate effluent NH4 + as their main N source in those areas. However, mixing models suggest that towards the end of the reach, where source separation is distinct, macrophytes may utilize background NO 3 ? . Our study indicates the difficulty of deriving precise estimates of effluent use by macrophytes in a system where the δ 15N of the effluent changes rapidly. It also illustrates the utility of macrophytes in describing those changes where the effluent is too attenuated to allow for direct isotopic analysis.  相似文献

It is now well known that there is a substantial outflow of ionospheric plasma from the terrestrial ionosphere at high latitudes. The outflow consists of light thermal ions (H+, He+) as well as both light and heavy energized ions (H+, He+, O+, N+, NO+, O2+, N2+). The thermal ion outflows tend to be associated with the classical polar wind, while the energized ions are probably associated with either auroral energization processes or nonclassical polar wind processes. Part of the problem with identifying the exact cause of a given outflow relates to the fact that the ionosphere continuously convects into and out of the various high-latitude regions (sunlight, cusp, polar cap, nocturnal oval) and the time-constant for outflow is comparable to the convection time. Therefore, it is difficult to separate and quantify the possible outflow mechanisms. Some of these mechanisms are as follows. In sunlit regions, the photoelectrons can heat the thermal electrons and the elevated electron temperature acts to increase the polar wind outflow rate. At high altitudes, the escaping photoelectrons can also accelerate the polar wind as they drag the thermal ions with them. In the cusp and auroral oval, the precipitating magnetospheric electrons can heat the thermal electrons in a manner similar to the photoelectrons. Also, energized ions, in the form of beams and conics, can be created in association with field-aligned auroral currents and potential structures. The cusp ion beams and conics that have been convected into the polar cap can destabilize the polar wind when they pass through it at high altitudes, thereby transferring energy to the thermal ions. Additional energization mechanisms in the polar cap include Joule heating, hot magnetospheric electrons and ions, electromagnetic wave turbulence, and centrifugal acceleration. Some of these causes of ionospheric outflow will be briefly reviewed, with the emphasis on the recent simulations of polar wind dynamics in convecting flux tubes of plasma.  相似文献

Formation mechanism of the spring–autumn asymmetry of the F2-layer peak electron number density of the midlatitudinal ionosphere, NmF2, under daytime quiet geomagnetic conditions at low solar activity are studied. We used the ionospheric parameters measured by the ionosonde and incoherent scatter radar at Millstone Hill on March 3, 2007, March 29, 2007, September 12, 2007, and September 18, 1984. The altitudinal profiles of the electron density and temperature were calculated for the studied conditions using a one-dimensional, nonstationary, ionosphere–plasmasphere theoretical model for middle geomagnetic latitudes. The study has shown that there are two main factors contributing to the formation of the observed spring–autumn asymmetry of NmF2: first, the spring–autumn variations of the plasma drift along the geomagnetic field due to the corresponding variations in the components of the neutral wind velocity, and, second, the difference between the composition of the neutral atmosphere under the spring and autumn conditions at the same values of the universal time and the ionospheric F2-layer peak altitude. The seasonal variations of the rate of O+(4S) ion production, which are associated with chemical reactions with the participation of the electronically excited ions of atomic oxygen, does not significantly affect the studied NmF2 asymmetry. The difference in the degree of influence of O+(4S) ion reactions with vibrationally excited N2 and O2 on NmF2 under spring and autumn conditions does not significantly change the spring–autumn asymmetry of NmF2.  相似文献

The accumulation of data sets of past tsunamis is the most basic but reliable way to prepare for future tsunamis because the frequency of tsunami occurrence and their magnitude can be estimated by historical records of tsunamis. Investigation of tsunami deposits preserved in geological layers is an effective measure to understand ancient tsunamis that occurred before historical records began. However, the areas containing tsunami deposits can be narrower than the area of tsunami inundation, thus resulting in underestimation of the magnitude of past tsunamis. A field survey was conducted after the 2010 Chile tsunami and 2011 Japan tsunami to investigate the chemical properties of the tsunami-inundated soil to examine the applicability of tsunami inundation surveys considering water-soluble salts in soil. The soil and tsunami deposits collected in the tsunami-inundated areas are rich in water-soluble ions (Na+, Mg2+, Cl?, Br? and SO 4 2? ) compared with the samples collected in the non-inundated areas. The analytical result that the ratios of Na+, Mg2+, Br? and SO 4 2? to Cl? are nearly the same in the tsunami deposits and in the tsunami-inundated soil suggests that the deposition of these ions resulting from the tsunami inundation does not depend on whether or not tsunami deposits exist. Discriminant analysis of the tsunami-inundated areas using the ion contents shows the high applicability of these ions to the detection of tsunami inundation during periods when the amount of rainfall is limited. To examine the applicability of this method to palaeotsunamis, the continuous monitoring of water-soluble ions in tsunami-inundated soil is needed as a future study.  相似文献

Tsunamis are most destructive at near to regional distances, arriving within 20–30 min after a causative earthquake; effective early warning at these distances requires notification within 15 min or less. The size and impact of a tsunami also depend on sea floor displacement, which is related to the length, L, width, W, mean slip, D, and depth, z, of the earthquake rupture. Currently, the primary seismic discriminant for tsunami potential is the centroid-moment tensor magnitude, M w CMT , representing the product LWD and estimated via an indirect inversion procedure. However, the obtained M w CMT and the implied LWD value vary with rupture depth, earth model, and other factors, and are only available 20–30 min or more after an earthquake. The use of more direct discriminants for tsunami potential could avoid these problems and aid in effective early warning, especially for near to regional distances. Previously, we presented a direct procedure for rapid assessment of earthquake tsunami potential using two, simple measurements on P-wave seismograms—the predominant period on velocity records, T d , and the likelihood, T 50 Ex , that the high-frequency, apparent rupture-duration, T 0, exceeds 50–55 s. We have shown that T d and T 0 are related to the critical rupture parameters L, W, D, and z, and that either of the period–duration products T d T 0 or T d T 50 Ex gives more information on tsunami impact and size than M w CMT , M wp, and other currently used discriminants. These results imply that tsunami potential is not directly related to the product LWD from the “seismic” faulting model, as is assumed with the use of the M w CMT discriminant. Instead, information on rupture length, L, and depth, z, as provided by T d T 0 or T d T 50 Ex , can constrain well the tsunami potential of an earthquake. We introduce here special treatment of the signal around the S arrival at close stations, a modified, real-time, M wpd(RT) magnitude, and other procedures to enable early estimation of event parameters and tsunami discriminants. We show that with real-time data currently available in most regions of tsunami hazard, event locations, m b and M wp magnitudes, and the direct, period–duration discriminant, T d T 50 Ex can be determined within 5 min after an earthquake occurs, and T 0, T d T 0, and M wpd(RT) within approximately 10 min. This processing is implemented and running continuously in real-time within the Early-est earthquake monitor at INGV-Rome (http://early-est.rm.ingv.it). We also show that the difference m b  ? log10(T d T 0) forms a rapid discriminant for slow, tsunami earthquakes. The rapid availability of these measurements can aid in faster and more reliable tsunami early warning for near to regional distances.  相似文献

Ion composition measurements on board the ACTIVE satellite during the recovery phase of a strong geomagnetic storm of 10–12 April 1990 revealed extremely high concentrations (up to 103 cm−3) of the NO+, O+2, N+2 molecular ions in the topside F2-region of the European high-latitude zone. Concentrations of O+, N+, He+, H+ light ions were slightly decreased relative to prestorm quite conditions. Theoretical calculations were used to analyze the observed variations in ion concentration. Increased neutral temperature and [O2], [N2] are shown to be the main reasons for the observed ion concentration variations.  相似文献

Millstone Hill ionospheric storm time measurements of the electron density and temperature during the ionospheric storms (15-16 June 1965; 29–30 September 1969 and 17–18 August 1970) are compared with model results. The model of the Earth’s ionosphere and plasmasphere includes interhemispheric coupling, the H+, O+(4S), O+(2D), O+(2P), NO+, O+2 and N+2 ions, electrons, photoelectrons, the electron and ion temperature, vibrationally excited N2 and the components of thermospheric wind.In order to model the electron temperature at the time of the 16 June 1965 negative storm, the heating rate of the electron gas by photoelectrons in the energy balance equation was multiplied by the factors 5–30 at he altitude above 700 km for the period 4.50-12.00 LT, 16 June 1965. The [O]/[N2] MSIS-86 decrease and vibrationally excited N2 effects are enough to account for the electron density depressions at Millstone Hill during the three storms. The factor of 2 (for 27–30 September 1969 magnetic storm) and the & actor 2.7 (for 16–18 August 1970 magnetic storm) reduction in the daytime peak density due to enhanced vibrationally excited N2 is brought about by the increase in the O++N2 rate factor.  相似文献

The structure and dynamics of the ionosphere and plasmasphere at high solar activity under quiet geomagnetic conditions of June 2–3, 1979, and January 5–6, 1980, over Millstone Hill station and Argentine Islands ionosonde, the locations of which are approximately magnetically conjugate, have been theoretically calculated. The plasma drift velocity, determined by comparing the calculated and measured heights of the F 2 layer maximum (hmF2), and the correction of [N2] and [O2], found in the NRLMSISE-00 model, make it possible to coordinate the electron densities (NmF2) calculated at the hmF2 height and the measured anomalous variations in NmF2 over the Argentine Islands ionosonde as well as the calculated and measured NmF2 and electron temperature at the hmF2 height over Millstone Hill station. It has been shown that, if the interference of the diffusion velocities of O+(4S) and H+ ions is taken into account, the additional heating of plasmaspheric electrons leads to an increase in the flux of O+(4S) ions from the topside ionosphere to lower F 2 layer altitudes, as a result of which an anomalous nighttime increase in NmF2 6, observed on January 6, 1980, over Millstone Hill station, is mainly produced. The second component of the formation of anomalous night-time NmF2 is the plasma drift along the magnetic field caused by the neutral wind, which shifts O+(4S) ions to higher altitudes where the recombination rate of O+(4S) with N2 and O2 is lower and slows down a decrease in NmF2 in the course of time. It has been shown that the influence of electronically excited O+ ions and vibrationally excited N2 and O2 molecules on electron density (N e ) considerably differs under winter and summer conditions. This difference forms significant part of the winter anomaly in N e at heights of the F 2 region and topside ionosphere over Millstone Hill station.  相似文献
