In order to sample medium-temperature fumaroles, gases are collected by means of iron or glass tubings and conveyed to the condensation system through glass dewar tubes. One type of condenser was designed for condensate measurement and gas sampling for Radon activity determination; the other, with NaOH absorbing solution, for the S/Cl ratio measurement and the sampling of rare gases. Geostatistics applied to radiological evaluation of nuclear premises provides methods to estimate radiological activities, together with their associated uncertainty. It enables a sophisticated sampling methodology combining radiation map and destructive samples. The radiological assessment is divided in two steps: first, a regular control of the surface activity is performed. Then, to assess the true contamination, concrete samples are collected and analyses are performed at several locations within the premises. These two types of measurement are first dealt separately, then cokriging techniques are applied to estimate the contamination over the premise, taking both information into account. This paper presents a methodological study of geostatistical and computational approaches to target suitable areas for additional radiological measures. In order to compare the proposed augmented sampling designs, several optimization criteria are taken into account. Their diversity ensures the coverage of a wide range of real problematics. Two algorithms (greedy algorithm and simulated annealing) are developed to optimize the chosen criterion value as a function of the location of the additional points. The sampling scenarios obtained with the different algorithms are compared in terms of optimization performance and computational efficiency.  相似文献

A tracing technique is described which uses low concentrations of a nonradioactive tracer, the bromide ion. Concentrations may be so low that they do not constitute a health or pollution problem when added to segments of the hydrologic cycle. The tracer is detected by post sampling activation analysis techniques. Water samples containing the tracer are made radioactive when irradiated with neutrons. Radiation detectors are used to analyze the radiation emitted by each sample and the unique radiation characteristics of the tracer (80Br with a half life of 17.6 min) are sought. No chemical separation techniques are required.Given a “rabbit system” to transport irradiated samples to a Ge(Li) detector 3–5 samples per hour can be analyzed.The technique is safe, and tracers can be detected as low as 20 parts per billion (p.p.b.) over that of background concentrations. The bromide ion does not appear to be lost by precipitation, absorption or adsorption and is biologically stable.A spike concentration of 200 p.p.m. was used in field studies because it is lower than the limit set for drinking water. The technique was tried on sinkhole, conduit and spring systems in a carbonate terrain, in central Pennsylvania. Surface water entering a sinkhole had a background bromine concentration of 0.020 μg/ml and 0.027 μg/ml at the conduit outlet 0.6 miles distant. Although the flow rate into the sinkhole was 50 ft.3/min, no tracer was detected in the spring 16 h after the tracer was added.In a second study ammonium bromide was added in a conduit 500 ft. from its discharge point. Tracer first appeared at the discharge point 1 h after injection (0.11 p.p.m. vs. an average background of 0.03 p.p.m.). The maximum passed at 1 h 30 min and the spread of the spike was estimated to be over 5 h. For a peak maximum of 0.1 p.p.m., only 3 g of ammonium bromide would have been required in the second study. The inlet concentration would have been only 2.8 p.p.m. indicating the sensitivity of the method.Nine of many possible potential field applications are listed for this superior tracing technique.  相似文献

Sampling efficiency is directly linked to (faunistic) stability issues of any sampled site. It is more probable to sample a high proportion of the species occurring at a certain site, if communities remain constant in species composition with time. For this study 64 groundwater monitoring wells in Southwestern Germany were sampled six times to determine sampling efficiency. False-Negative (FN) rates and SIMPER values, two independent models expressing Faunistic values of the sampled bores, were calculated and three groups of faunistic stability could be identified based on calculated SIMPER-values. FN-rates as well as SIMPER values proved to be a valuable approach for the estimation of faunistic stability/instability, as these methods showed a highly negative correlation with each other. To collect 95% of species a number of 1.7–16.4 samples was calculated to be necessary depending on faunistic stability of the sampled habitat. On the six sampling occasions the sites harbouring a stable groundwater meiofauna resulted in 98.2% of occurring species, whereas the percentage decreased over intermediate sites (94.9%) and stressed sites (79.5%).A consequence of the data presented may be to view surveys using only two samples as campaign with orienting character, with further studies of stability issues of groundwater communities which would provide efficient and effective sampling for various kinds of sites.  相似文献

In the STAR/AQEM protocol microhabitats covering less than 5% of the sampling area were neglected. Driven by an ongoing discussion on the importance of these underrepresented microhabitats we tested the influence of sampling them. We investigated 48 streams representing 14 different stream types from all over Germany. Macroinvertebrates of underrepresented microhabitats were sampled in addition to the STAR/AQEM protocol. To ensure the method remains feasible in routine monitoring programmes the total sampling and sorting effort of additional sampling was limited to 20 min. Particularly those taxa were picked, which were not recognised during the routine STAR/AQEM sorting.To identify the effect of additional sampling on stream assessment results, we calculated the stream type-specific Multimetric Index (MMI) with the “main” and the “main+additional” data for each sample. The mean and median difference in MMI values between “main” and “main+additional” samples was 0.02 and 0.01, respectively. In seven of 48 samples (14.6%) a different ecological quality class was calculated with the “main+additional” dataset. Regarding common metrics within the MMI as well as intercalibration metrics differences between “main” and “main+additional” samples were analysed. The values differed most in richness metrics (e.g., number of EPTCBO Taxa, number of Trichoptera Taxa). The results of the present study show that additional sampling of underrepresented microhabitats could alter multimetric assessment results.  相似文献

Unbaited phreatic traps are a promising new method for sampling subterranean limnofauna. The aim of this study is to evaluate whether such trap systems are suitable to gather representative samples of the physico-chemical parameters and the invertebrate fauna of the aquifer. Fifteen traps, installed in five groundwater bores, and four traps located in the hyporheic zone, were sampled twice monthly over a 1 year period (June 2003–June 2004). Water samples were removed in three separated fractions (hose, trap and aquifer water), analysed for physico-chemical and faunal characteristics and compared with one another. The study was carried out in the Nakdong River floodplain, Korea. Physico-chemical characteristics of trap and aquifer were similar, but differed greatly from the hose samples. Abundances of fauna inside the traps were higher than in the aquifer, whereas there were no differences in taxonomic composition of the trap and aquifer samples. Biases of abundances suspected due to the use of traps were negligible in the groundwater, though it is recommended that comparisons between groundwater and hyporheic abundances ascertained by traps be handled cautiously.  相似文献

A wide variety of sampling programmes may now be considered practical with the recent developments in data logger and water sampler technology. In ephemeral systems the water sampler remains idle for long periods between events. Two approaches are described which overcome the problems of sampling in ephemeral systems: short interval time dependent sampling (TDS) and automated flow proportional sampling (FPS). Both approaches utilize the data logger's ability to perform intermediate operations on incoming data to control the initiation of water sampling. The logger programs are described and allow many recorder/water sampler units to be controlled from one device. The relative merits of the two approaches are discussed in terms of experimental requirements and data precision.  相似文献

A new apparatus, Venturi Effect System (VES), designed for sampling volcanic plumes is described and tested at Vulcano (Italy). This device, together with purified basic NH4OH solutions, supplies optimal conditions to obtain reliable Stotal/Cl/F ratios and enrichment factors for metallic trace elements (MTE). Good concordance for acid gas ratios and metal enrichment factors in both the gas phase and the related plume allows the procedure to be validated. The VES appears in Vulcano conditions as a simple, robust and easily portable apparatus that allows reliable collection of both acid gases and MTE within a single sample and the analysis with current chemical methods (High Pressure Liquid Chromatography, Inductively Coupled Plasma–Mass Spectrometry). This apparatus may be suitable for more difficult volcanoes where only the plume can be sampled.  相似文献

非规则采样快速傅里叶变换(NFFT)主要用于快速计算非规则采样数据的频谱及重建.该方法为非规则采样数据频谱重建技术的核心算法.在实现NFFT算法时,高速度和高精度计算是其应用的前提和关键.本文针对二维NFFT计算效率,应用表驱动思路进行改进,将Gauss褶积算子由矩形改进为椭圆以减少计算量,将e指数计算改进为乘法以加快计算速度,并建表解决NFFT算法在地震资料处理中的应用问题.本文同时给出了非规则采样地震数据NFFT谱重建方法.最后本文给出算例验证提出方法的计算速度和精度,和非规则采样地震资料重建结果.  相似文献

More than 80,000 shoreline bacteriological samples are collected annually in southern California to protect beachgoer health, but sampling frequency varies from daily to monthly among sampling sites. To assess the effectiveness of various sampling frequencies, we used five years of data from 24 Los Angeles area sites that have been monitored daily to simulate five alternative sampling strategies: five weekdays, five days per week including a weekend day, three days per week, weekly, and monthly. For each of these sampling strategies, we included in the simulation the local custom of adaptive sampling, in which a site is resampled the following day if bacterial concentrations exceed the State of California's beach water quality standards. We found that sampling five times per week resulted in observing about 80% of the events in which State standards were exceeded. This frequency dropped to 55%, 25%, and 5% for three times per week, weekly, and monthly sampling, respectively. Adaptive sampling was ineffective because nearly 70% of the water quality exceedences were single-day events, even at the most frequently contaminated sites. This high frequency of single-day events is of concern because the public is typically notified about water quality conditions 24-48 h after samples are collected, meaning that most warnings are out-of-date when they are issued.  相似文献

Additional aspects regarding the optimum fixed and roving sampling techniques, to those already explored in a previous authors’ throughfall study, are further investigated here. The roving technique consists in the random repositioning, with a frequency fr, of N throughfall gauges among M positions (M > N), oppositely to the fixed or stationary arrangement where N = M. Both fixed and roving optimum sampling techniques of 100 monitored throughfall events sampled with 200 fixed gauges under a semideciduous tropical rain forest in Panama were investigated by means of Monte‐Carlo numerical experiments. Mean dispersion was shown to be always smaller in the roving versus the fixed gauge arrangement, independently of the relocation frequency studied (fr = 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 1), such that all roving schemes with N ≥ 50 gauges lay within ±5% of the mean cumulative throughfall. Results indicated that a low variability, high precision, and accuracy are obtained with a modest relocation frequency fr = 0.2 (i.e. a relocation every five episodes of the original 100 measured events) and N = 30 roving gauges, with no significant improvement worth the extra field work beyond fr > 0.2 and N >30. Only by increasing the number of roving positions from M < < 200 to M = 200, the precision and accuracy of the mean estimate were improved without comprising additional labour. Hence, a roving sampling scheme which relocates gauges over completely new fresh sites each roving cycle is recommended for future throughfall studies. Finally, we designed an a priori sampling strategy which permitted us to conclude that using only the first 20 out of the total 100 measuring events, for the remaining 80 throughfall field measurements, N = 40 roving gauges (i.e. five time less than the originally 200 gauges displayed) would have been sufficient for ensuring ≤5% error, expressed as percentage of the mean cumulative throughfall. We introduce a two-step method to perform spatio-temporal balanced sampling in a design-based approach. For populations with spatio-temporal trends and with anisotropic effects in the variable of interest, the prediction can be further improved by selecting samples that are well spread over the entire population in space and time. We control the spread of the sample over the population by using the volume of the corresponding three-dimensional Voronoi tessellation. Indeed, spatio-temporal design-based balanced sampling is even more efficient under the presence of a trend and anisotropic effects. We present an intensive simulation study comparing our method to other available methods for spatio-temporal sampling. Finally, we analyze real data by sampling from a population of temperature stations over six European countries.  相似文献

The evidence for the wider effects of fishing on the marine ecosystem demands that we incorporate these considerations into our management of human activities. The consequences of the direct physical disturbance of the seabed caused by towed bottom-fishing gear have been studied extensively with over 100 manipulations reported in the peer-reviewed literature. The outcome of these studies varies according to the gear used and the habitat in which it was deployed. This variability in the response of different benthic systems concurs with established theoretical models of the response of community metrics to disturbance. Despite this powerful evidence, a recent FAO report wrongly concludes that the variability in the reported responses to fishing disturbance mean that no firm conclusion as to the effects of fishing disturbance can be made. This thesis is further supported (incorrectly) by the supposition that current benthic sampling methodologies are inadequate to demonstrate the effects of fishing disturbance on benthic systems. The present article addresses these two erroneous conclusions which may confuse non-experts and in particular policy-makers.  相似文献

China's continental deposition basins are characterized by complex geological structures and various reservoir lithologies. Therefore, high precision exploration methods are needed. High density spatial sampling is a new technology to increase the accuracy of seismic exploration. We briefly discuss point source and receiver technology, analyze the high density spatial sampling in situ method, introduce the symmetric sampling principles presented by Gijs J. O. Vermeer, and discuss high density spatial sampling technology from the point of view of wave field continuity. We emphasize the analysis of the high density spatial sampling characteristics, including the high density first break advantages for investigation of near surface structure, improving static correction precision, the use of dense receiver spacing at short offsets to increase the effective coverage at shallow depth, and the accuracy of reflection imaging. Coherent noise is not aliased and the noise analysis precision and suppression increases as a result. High density spatial sampling enhances wave field continuity and the accuracy of various mathematical transforms, which benefits wave field separation. Finally, we point out that the difficult part of high density spatial sampling technology is the data processing. More research needs to be done on the methods of analyzing and processing huge amounts of seismic data.  相似文献

中国陆相沉积盆地的地质结构复杂,储层岩性的多变,需要有高精度的勘探方法。高密度空间采样是提高地震勘探精度的一项新技术。本文简要说明了点激发和点接收技术,分析高密度空间采样的野外工作方法,介绍了Gijs j.o.Vermeer提出的对称采样原理,从波场连续性的角度探讨了高密度空间采样技术。重点分析高密度空间采样数据的特点, 即:高密集的初至波有利于近地表结构的调查,可提高静校正的精度;小偏移距、小点距接收增加了浅层的有效覆盖次数,提高浅层反射的成像精度; 对规则噪声可实现无假频采样,室内的噪声分析和噪声压制的精度随着提高;高密度采集使波场连续性增强,使得各种数学变换的精度提高,有利于不同波场的分离。最后指出高密度空间采样地震勘探技术的难点在于室内数据处理,针对海量数据的分析和处理方法还需要进行深入细致的研究工作。  相似文献
