This paper is concerned with the dynamic response of rigid strip foundations of arbitrary geometry embedded in a homogeneous elastic half-space. The embedded rigid foundation is modelled by an equivalent domain in a uniform half-space which is subjected to an appropriate body force field. The components of the impedance matrix are determined through the solution of a linear simultaneous equation system which is established by invoking rigid body displacements of discrete locations within the equivalent domain and appropriate equilibrium consideration. It is found that high numerical efficiency and flexibility can be achieved using the body force model when compared to boundary integral formulations through the selection of appropriate displacement influence functions and a ‘parent domain’ in the analysis. Numerical results are presented to illustrate the influence of the embedment ratio, frequency of excitation, foundation geometry and Poisson's ratio on the vertical, horizontal, rocking and coupled impedances of a single embedded foundation. The effect on the impedance due to the presence of an adjacent embedment is investigated for various distances between foundations and embedment ratios.  相似文献

A simplified damped oscillator model is proposed to simulate unbounded soil for the vertical vibration analysis of rigid embedded foundations. Based on the dynamic responses of a foundation–soil system, an optimal equivalent model is determined as the best simplified model. Magnification responses of a foundation–soil system simulated by the optimal equivalent model are well consistent with those obtained by the half-space theory and by a widely used computer program even as embedment depth or vibrating mass increases. The optimal equivalent model utilizing only three parameters can result in responses as accurate as the existing models, which use more parameters. This proposed method uses much simpler procedure than optimization techniques used by most existing discrete models. This proposed method may also be easily and accurately applied to practical soil–structure interaction analysis.  相似文献

In this paper, a finite element model of a soil island is coupled to both a consistent transmitting boundary and a paraxial boundary, which are then used to model the propagation of waves in semi-infinite elastic layered media. The formulation is carried out in the frequency domain while assuming plane strain conditions. It is known that a discrete model of this type, while providing excellent results for a wide range of physical parameters in the context of a half-space problem, may deteriorate rapidly at low frequencies of excitation. This is so because at low frequencies the various waves in the model eventually attain characteristic wavelengths which exceed the distance of the bottom boundary, which then causes that boundary to fail. Also, the paraxial boundaries themselves break down at very low frequencies. In this paper, this difficulty is overcome and the model׳s performance is improved upon dramatically by incorporating an artificial buffer layer sandwiched between the bottom of the soil medium and the underlying elastic half-space. Applications dealing with rigid foundations resting on homogenous or layered half-space media are shown to exhibit significant improvement. Following extensive simulations, clear guidelines are provided on the performance of the coupled model and an interpretation is given on the engineering significance of the findings. Finally, clear recommendations are provided for the practical use of the proposed modelling strategy.  相似文献

A refined substructure technique in the frequency domain is developed, which permits consideration of the interaction effects among adjacent containers through the supporting deformable soil medium. The tank‐liquid systems are represented by means of mechanical models, whereas discrete springs and dashpots stand for the soil beneath the foundations. The proposed model is employed to assess the responses of adjacent circular, cylindrical tanks for harmonic and seismic excitations over wide range of tank proportions and soil conditions. The influence of the number, spatial arrangement of the containers and their distance on the overall system's behavior is addressed. The results indicate that the cross‐interaction effects can substantially alter the impulsive components of response of each individual element in a tank farm. The degree of this impact is primarily controlled by the tank proportions and the proximity of the predominant natural frequencies of the shell‐liquid‐soil systems and the input seismic motion. The group effects should be not a priori disregarded, unless the tanks are founded on shallow soil deposit overlying very stiff material or bedrock. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Apart from some special cases, calculating the dynamic stiffness matrix of foundations on a layered half-space, especially for embedded foundations, is computationally expensive. An efficient method for two-dimensional foundations in a horizontally layered soil media is presented in this paper. This method is based on indirect boundary element methods and uses discrete wave number solution methods for calculating Green's functions for displacements and analytical methods for the integrations over the boundary. For surface foundations, the present method applies at all frequencies. For embedded foundations or for constructing energy transmitting boundaries, because the free-field part is modelled by boundary elements and the excavated part is modelled by finite elements, the present method applies only at low frequencies for the spring coefficients (the real parts of the dynamic stiffness matrix) but applies at all frequencies for the damping coefficients (the imaginary part of the dynamic stiffness matrix) for undamped sites. The novelty of the method can be used for three-dimensional foundations. © 1997 by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We present a new workflow for imaging damped three‐dimensional elastic wavefields in the Fourier domain. The workflow employs a multiscale imaging approach, in which offset lengths are laddered, where frequency content and damping of the data are changed cyclically. Thus, the inversion process is launched using short‐offset and low‐frequency data to recover the long spatial wavelength of the image at a shallow depth. Increasing frequency and offset length leads to the recovery of the fine‐scale features of the model at greater depths. For the fixed offset, we employ (in the imaging process) a few discrete frequencies with a set of Laplace damping parameters. The forward problem is solved with a finite‐difference frequency‐domain method based on a massively parallel iterative solver. The inversion code is based upon the solution of a least squares optimisation problem and is solved using a nonlinear gradient method. It is fully parallelised for distributed memory computational platforms. Our full‐waveform inversion workflow is applied to the 3D Marmousi‐2 and SEG/EAGE Salt models with long‐offset data. The maximum inverted frequencies are 6 Hz for the Marmousi model and 2 Hz for the SEG/EAGE Salt model. The detailed structures are imaged successfully up to the depth approximately equal to one‐third of the maximum offset length at a resolution consistent with the inverted frequencies.  相似文献

Discrete models such as the lumped parameter model and the finite element model are widely used in the solution of soil amplification of earthquakes. However, neither of the models will accurately estimate the natural frequencies of soil deposit, nor simulate a damping of frequency independence. This research develops a new discrete model for one-dimensional viscoelastic response analysis of layered soil deposit based on the mode equivalence method. The new discrete model is a one-dimensional equivalent multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) system characterized by a series of concentrated masses, springs and dashpots with a special configuration. The dynamic response of the equivalent MDOF system is analytically derived and the physical parameters are formulated in terms of modal properties. The equivalent MDOF system is verified through a comparison of amplification functions with the available theoretical solutions. The appropriate number of degrees of freedom (DOFs) in the equivalent MDOF system is estimated. A comparative study of the equivalent MDOF system with the existing discrete models is performed. It is shown that the proposed equivalent MDOF system can exactly present the natural frequencies and the hysteretic damping of soil deposits and provide more accurate results with fewer DOFs.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with establishing error bounds on natural frequencies of a discrete structural model using the MacNeal–Rubin Component Mode Synthesis (CMS) method. A method is proposed whereby lower bounds to natural frequencies of a finite element model with compatible elements can be obtained after upper bounds have been calculated with the CMS technique. This method uses the idea that the inertial contribution from the neglected high frequency component modes can be expressed as a function of a residual approximation frequency. Increasing the residual approximation frequency raises the effective inertia added to the system, which in turn decreases the system natural frequencies. The technique is formulated for discrete, undamped systems, and is applied to finite element models of a beam and a container ship. It is also shown that for a particular mode of the system, estimates of the residual approximation frequency can be improved using Newton's method. Thus, a frequency determined with CMS can be steadily improved until it converges to the frequency of the model. Numerical results for the finite element models indicate that convergence is fast, even when the initial error is large.  相似文献

The influence of stochastic kinematic interaction (SKI) on structural response is investigated in this paper. The SKI is evaluated through a computational model based on the boundary element method (BEM) formulated in the frequency domain. The singular integrals required in the computation of BEM are evaluated in a closed form. It is assumed that the foundation input motion (FIM) is the result of the superposition of many plane, stationary, correlated stochastic SH‐, P‐ and SV‐waves travelling within a homogeneous viscoelastic soil at different angles. The results obtained indicate that the effect of SKI on the foundation response is qualitatively similar to that of wave passage. Both effects involve a reduction of translational components of the response at intermediate and high frequencies and creation of a rotational response component at intermediate frequencies, which decreases at high frequencies. While, it is found that the SKI decreases the maximum response of structures built on embedded rigid strip foundations excited by SH‐ and P‐waves, it increases the maximum response for SV‐waves, except when the natural frequency of the structure is less than 0.5 Hz and for short structures excited by shallowly incident SV‐waves. Soil-structure interaction analysis is usually carried out in the frequency domain, because the compliance functions of the half-space are known only in the frequency domain. Since non-linear analysis cannot be carried out in the frequency domain, a system with frequency independent parameters is used to represent the half-space soil medium so that a nonlinear analysis in the time domain becomes possible. The objective of this paper is to propose a system with lumped parameters, which are independent of frequency, to represent the half-space soil medium. The proposed frequency independent system consists of a number of real discrete structure elements; thus the existing dynamic analysis programs may be adoptable with little modification. In this paper, the parameters are found by minimizing the sum of the squares of deviations between the steady-state responses of the theoretical half-space model and those of the lumped parameter system over a specified frequency range. Once the parameters have been found, the lumped parameter system can be used in practical applications for time domain dynamic analysis of either linear or non-linear structures. In comparison with the dynamic response of the theoretical half-space model, the lumped parameter system yields satisfactory results.  相似文献

A study on the dynamic response of three-dimensional flexible foundations of arbitrary shape, embedded in a homogenous, isotropic and linear elastic half-space is presented. Both massive and massless foundations are considered. The soil-foundation system is subjected to externally applied forces, and/or to obliquely incident seismic waves. The numerical method employed is a combination of the frequency domain Boundary Element Method, which is used to simulate the elastic soil medium, and the Finite Element Method, on the basis of which the stiffness matrix of the foundation is obtained. The foundation and soil media are combined by enforcing compatibility and equilibrium conditions at their common interface. Both relaxed and completely bonded boundary conditions are considered. The accuracy of the proposed methodology is partially verified through comparison studies with results reported in the literature for rigid embedded foundations.  相似文献

With a simplified model and Galerkin's weighted residual procedure, two simple differential equations of dynamic behavior of a bounded rectangular medium are established along the boundaries in the x- and y-direction in the medium. Solutions of these equations yield closed form expressions of soil stiffnesses for various cases of a partially embedded rigid foundation, including the stiffnesses per depth of foundation with rectangular base area and the stifnesses of strip foundation. The developed procedure provides the definition of the weight functions, which are used in Galerkin's method for weighted residual. In addition to these weight functions, their conjugators are also suitable for weight functions. When the soil depth is finite, the original weight functions fail to produce physically meaningful results in some frequency range but the conjugators do not fail at any frequencies. The developed equations to compute soil stiffnesses for embedded foundations are simple yet capable of calculating the responses close to those computed by the much more elaborated finite element method.  相似文献

The effects of soil‐structure interaction (SSI) are often studied using two‐dimensional (2D) or axisymmetric three‐dimensional (3D) models to avoid the high cost of the more realistic, fully 3D models, which require 2 to 3 orders of magnitude more computer time and storage. This paper analyzes the error and presents correction factors for system frequency, system damping, and peak amplitude of structural response computed using impedances for linear in‐plane 2D models with rectangular foundations, embedded in uniform or layered half‐space. They are computed by comparison with results for 3D rectangular foundations with the same vertical cross‐section and different aspect ratios. The structure is represented by a single degree‐of‐freedom oscillator. Correction factors are presented for a range of the model parameters. The results show that in‐plane 2D approximations overestimate the SSI effects, exaggerating the frequency shift, the radiation damping, and the reduction of the peak amplitude. The errors are larger for stiffer, taller, and heavier structures, deeper foundations, and deeper soil layer. For example, for a stiff structure like Millikan library (NS response; length‐to‐width ratio ≈ 1), the error is 6.5% in system frequency, 44% in system damping, and 140% in peak amplitude. The antiplane 2D approximation has an opposite effect on system frequency and the same effect on system damping and peak relative response. Linear response analysis of a case study shows that the NEHRP‐2015 provisions for reduction of base shear force due to SSI may be unsafe for some structures. The presented correction factor diagrams can be used in practical design and other applications.  相似文献

Traditionally, ocean tides have been modeled in frequency domain with a forcing from selected tidal constituents. It is a natural approach; however, it implicitly neglects non-linearities of ocean dynamics. An alternative approach is time-domain modeling with a forcing given by the full lunisolar potential, i.e., all tidal waves are a priori included. This approach has been applied in several ocean tide models; however, some challenging tasks still remain, for example, assimilation of satellite altimetry data. In this paper, we introduce the assimilative scheme applicable in a time-domain model, which is an alternative to existing techniques used in assimilative ocean tide models. We present results from DEBOT, a global barotropic ocean tide model, which has two modes: DEBOT-h, a purely hydrodynamical mode, and DEBOT-a, an assimilative mode. The accuracy of DEBOT in both modes is assessed through a series of tests against tide gauge data which demonstrate that DEBOT is comparable to state-of-the-art global ocean tide models for major tidal constituents. Furthermore, as signals of all tidal frequencies are included in DEBOT, we also discuss modeling of minor tidal constituents and non-linear compound tides. Our modeling approach can be useful for those applications where the frequency domain approach is not suitable.  相似文献

The dynamic behaviour of a system of three-dimensional, massless, rigid, surface foundations of arbitrary shape perfectly bonded to the elastic half-space is numerically studied with the frequency domain boundary element method. This method employs the dynamic Green's function for the surface of the half-space and this results in a discretization of only the soil-foundation interfaces. In addition, use of isoparametric quadratic quadrilateral boundary elements increases the accuracy of the method, which is confirmed by comparison with other known numerical solutions. Externally applied loads, harmonically varying with time, are considered. The through the soil coupling effect between the foundations as a function of distance and frequency is assessed through extensive parametric studies involving two and four rigid foundations being isolated or interconnected. It is found that the assertion of ATC-3 regulations that omission of coupling effects leads to conservative results is not always correct for all frequencies.  相似文献

A five-parameter discrete model that approximates the dynamic force4isplacement relationship for rigid foundations undergoing vertical vibrations on a uniform elastic half-space is presented. The model involves a combination of two springs, two viscous dampers and a mass. Values of the parameters for circular, square and rectangular foundations placed on the surface or embedded in an elastic half-space are listed. The parameters are obtained by minimizing the discrepancy between the force4isplacement relation for the model and that obtained by solution of the mixed boundary-value problem of the rigid foundation on an elastic half-space. The definition of an appropriate input motion to represent wave excitation is also discussed. The input motion to the discrete model differs from the input motion that should be used in a continuum model.  相似文献

Cones can be used to model soil in a unified strength-of-materials approach. For the vertical and rocking motions involving predominantly compressional-extensional deformation, the corresponding dilatational wave velocity tends to infinity for Poisson's ratio approaching 1/2. Based on the rigorous solution for the dynamic stiffness of a rigid disk for all frequencies, whereby the partition of the power among P-, S- and Rayleigh waves is also discussed, two special features are necessary for the vertical and rocking motions for nearly incompressible soil with Poisson's ratio between 1/3 and 1/2: (1) The appropriate wave velocity is selected as twice the shear wave velocity and not as the dilatational wave velocity; (2) A trapped mass which increases linearly with Poisson's ratio is introduced. The trapped mass can be assigned to the base mat, allowing the cone model to be constructed in the same way for all Poisson's ratios. The realization of cone models for surface foundations on a homogeneous half-space and on a layer on a flexible half-space and for embedded and pile foundations is addressed.  相似文献

In foundation dynamics two mechanisms of energy dissipation exist, wave radiation and material damping. Elastic continuum models of the soil capture only the radiation effect. To incorporate material damping, use is made of the fact that the dynamic-stiffness relationships of all elastic foundations may be simulated by discrete assemblages of springs, dashpots and masses. (Such lumped-parameter models are exact for simple cone models of the soil and approximate for more involved cases.) By application of the correspondence principle directly to the discrete elements of the lumped-parameter model, it is possible to introduce Voigt viscoelasticity. Each original spring is augmented by a dashpot, and each original dashpot is augmented by a mass, attached in a special way. Going a step further, more realistic non-linear-hysteretic damping is represented by replacing the augmenting dashpots and masses by frictional elements. The analysis, which is effected solely in the time domain, is illustrated by an example from earthquake engineering.  相似文献

In this research, a parametric study is carried out on the effect of soil–structure interaction on the ductility and strength demand of buildings with embedded foundation. Both kinematic interaction (KI) and inertial interaction effects are considered. The sub‐structure method is used in which the structure is modeled by a simplified single degree of freedom system with idealized bilinear behavior. Besides, the soil sub‐structure is considered as a homogeneous half‐space and is modeled by a discrete model based on the concept of cone models. The foundation is modeled as a rigid cylinder embedded in the soil with different embedment ratios. The soil–structure system is then analyzed subjected to a suit of 24 selected accelerograms recorded on alluvium deposits. An extensive parametric study is performed for a wide range of the introduced non‐dimensional key parameters, which control the problem. It is concluded that foundation embedment may increase the structural demands for slender buildings especially for the case of relatively soft soils. However, the increase in ductility demands may not be significant for shallow foundations with embedment depth to radius of foundation ratios up to one. Comparing the results with and without inclusion of KI reveals that the rocking input motion due to KI plays the main role in this phenomenon. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
