Gravitophotophoresis, a type of photophoresis related to the direction of gravity, is examined in view of its possible importance to some aerosols in stratosphere and mesosphere. particles of various materials from about 1 to 100 m in size show levitation by photophoretic forces under laboratory simulation of irradiation by the sun at air densities of the middle atmosphere. Minimum air densities for levitation are about 2–3 g m–3 with mineral and metallic powders, about 0.08 g m–3 with carbonaceous powders. The fraction of rising particles can be about 0.01 to 1%. Velocities of ascent are in the range of 0.001 to 0.01 m s–1 at a pressure of several mbar. The magnitude and the mechanical character of the force of gravitophotophoresis can be explained if it is identified with a radiometer force caused by a difference of the accommodation coefficient on the surface. It is suggested that gravitophotophoresis can be important to the residence time and the maximum altitude of carbonaceous and mineral particles, such as volcanic ash or products of meteorite impact, and to the presence of microorgnisms in the middle atmosphere.  相似文献

Fourteen samples of fresh falling snow were collected at Antarctic coastal base Dumont d'Urville in 1984. The samples have been analysed for major ions (including MSA) by ion chromatography and acid titration. The results are relevant to the chemical composition of background precipitation in polar marine conditions. The seasalt aerosol contribution is dominant. All samples are found to be acidic in the range 3–16 eq/l. The calculated non-seasalt sulfate (nssSO4 2-) concentration is significantly negative for 3 of the 14 samples. NssSO4 2- is found to be relatively high in summer and fall. MSA also exhibits the same pattern probably linked to local marine biogenic activity and/or atmospheric photochemical processes. The MSA to nssSO4 2- ratio is in good agreement with values reported for coastal Antarctic ice cores and subantarctic acrosol. The background mean value for nitrate concentration is 1.1 eq/l but two very strong spikes (up to 16 eq/l) are observed. The first seems to be linked with long range transport of continental air masses while the second (in winter) is clearly due to a sudden input of nitric acid, possibly from the stratosphere.This paper represents a preliminary approach to a larger air and snow monitoring to be developped at this site.  相似文献

Condensation nucleus (CN) concentrations have been measured at Mawson (67.6°S, 62.9°E) since mid 1981. Weekly median concentrations have an annual cycle with a maximum of around 300 to 400 cm-3 in summer and a minimum of a few tens of particles per cm-3 in winter. In this respect Mawson behaves very much like an Antarctic continental location. Preliminary measurements of the size distribution of CN particles taken over a nine month period suggest a seasonal change in typical particle radius from around 0.01 m in winter to around 0.04 m in summer. Diurnal variation in the CN concentration is generally very weak and does not show any systematic relation to the pronounced diurnal variation in wind-speed at Mawson.Department of Science, Antarctic Division  相似文献

We present the first application of a multi-stage impactor to study volcanic particle emissions to the troposphere from Masaya volcano, Nicaragua. Concentrations of soluble SO4 2–,Cl, F, NO3 , K+, Na+,NH4 +, Ca2+ and Mg2+ were determined in 11 size bins from 0.07 m to >25.5 m. The near-source size distributions showed major modes at 0.5m (SO4 2–, H+,NH4 +); 0.2 m and 5.0 m (Cl) and 2.0–5.0 m(F). K+ and Na+ mirrored the SO4 2– size-resolvedconcentrations closely, suggesting that these were transported primarily asK2SO4 and Na2SO4 in acidic solution, while Mg2+ andCa2+ presented modes in both <1 m and >1 m particles. Changes in relative humidity were studied by comparing daytime (transparent plume) and night-time (condensed plume) results. Enhanced particle growth rates were observed in the night-time plume as well as preferential scavenging of soluble gases, such as HCl, by condensed water. Neutralisation of the acidic aerosol by background ammonia was observed at the crater rim and to a greater extent approximately 15 km downwind of the active crater. We report measurements of re-suspended near-source volcanic dust, which may form a component of the plume downwind. Elevated levels ofSO4 2–, Cl, F,H+, Na+, K+ and Mg2+ were observed around the 10 m particle diameter in this dust. The volcanic SO4 2– flux leaving the craterwas 0.07 kg s–1.  相似文献

如何描述风沙流中被风沙运动改变了的风速廓线是风沙相互作用研究中的关键问题之一.该文中将跃移风沙流视为一种颗粒拟流体,将跃移颗粒对气流产生的阻力用颗粒流的阻力系数来表达,建立了描写两场相互作用的数学模型.颗粒流的阻力系数采用了前人在液态流化床研究中得出的阻力系数表达形式,通过引入一个修正系数,使其适用于风沙流(气-固两相流).将风沙边界层划分为跃移颗粒所产生的阻力不可忽略的内边界层和跃移颗粒阻力可以忽略但受内边界层影响的外边界层,分别建立了内边界层和外边界层的风速廓线表达式.应用所建立的数学模型,根据由风洞实验测定的跃移风沙流的浓度分布和速度分布资料,计算了跃移风沙流中的风速廓线,并与风洞实测结果进行了对比.结果表明,计算风速廓线与实测风速廓线吻合得比较好,在半对数图上均为上凸的曲线,有别于无风沙运动时的直线.跃移边界层外风速分布可较好地用对数函数来描述.对风沙流中风速廓线的进一步分析证实了风沙物理学奠基人Bagnold在其早期观测风沙流中的风速廓线时提出的"结点现象"(Bagnold结),该结点的高度随风速的增大而升高,随颗粒粒径的增大而降低.根据数值模拟和模拟实验,可以认为有风沙运动的动床剪切风速是综合反映风场与跃移层以及地表之间相互作用的物理量.  相似文献

Wind-tunnel experiments were carried out to measure the shear stressduring snow saltation. Shear stress acting on the snow surface, measured directly with a newly developed drag meter system, revealedthat the shear stress increased with the development ofsaltation. This result supports Owen's hypothesis that the saltationlayer acts as an increased roughness to the flow above the saltationlayer, leading to an increase in surface shear stress. To investigate the contribution of the grain borne shear stressg and the fluid shear stress f to the increment of the total shear stress total, g was calculated from the loss of horizontal momentum of saltating snowparticles. Since g is the largest contribution to theincrement of total, the collision of thesaltating particles is dominant for the shear stressmodification. The results qualitatively support the numericalsimulation reported by McEwan and Willetts.  相似文献

With the aid of eddy correlation instrumentation, the components of the energy budget and CO2 flux were measured over grain sorghum grown at Mead, Nebraska. Diurnal patterns of sensible heat, latent heat, CO2 and momentum flux are examined for typical days. On a mostly clear day when the crop leaf area index was 3.7, net radiation reached a mid-day peak of 560 W m-2, while sensible and latent heat fluxes peaked at 50 and 460 W m-2, respectively. The peak CO2 flux occurring just prior to solar noon was 1.5 mg m-2(ground area) s-1. CO2 flux (respiration from plants, soil and roots) in the early evening was about -0.28 mg m-2 (ground area) s-1.A relationship between CO2 flux and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) was developed. Except during the late stage of growth (growth stage 8.5, toward the initiation of senescence), the crop showed no evidence of saturation up to PAR 1800 Ei m-2s-1. The light compensation point was found to be about 211 Ei m-2s-1. Examination of CO2 flux-PAR relationships for selected days through the season indicated an aging effect in terms of a decrease in photosynthetic activity of the sorghum canopy. Measurements made on two consecutive days demonstrate the effects of weather conditions on CO2 flux and carbon-water flux ratio (a measure of water use efficiency of the crop). The occurrence of regional sensible heat advection with concommitant high vapor pressure deficit and air temperature-limited CO2 exchange reduced the carbon-water flux ratio.Published as Paper No. 7717, Journal Series, Nebraska Agricultural Research Division. A Similarity Theory for Saltation and Application to Aeolian Mass Flux   总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7  
A similarity theory for saltation is presented. To derive the theory, a saltation model is developed and applied to simulating particle motion in turbulent flows. The numerical results are then fitted to simple universal expressions, or similarity functions. This approach allows the determination of saltation mass flux and other quantities. While the theory can be general, we focus on studying the saltation mass flux profile q(z). It is shown that q(z) is determined by friction velocity, aerodynamic roughness length and soil particle size distribution. There are two limiting situations, i.e., the saltation of large particles in weak turbulence and that of small particles in strong turbulence, for these two cases, q(z) is respectively exponential and Gaussian. Modified saltation has an intermediate saltation mass flux profile. For multi-sized particles, q(z) is a weighted superposition of many different profiles. The theory is compared with wind-tunnel observations, and uncertainties of the theory are discussed.  相似文献

Aeolian transport of sedimentary particles is a well-recognized phenomenon in cold regions, but the effect of low temperature (T) and specific humidity (q) upon particle entrainment has not previously been investigated. This study reports on wind-tunnel experiments (-12 °C T 32 °C, and 1 g kg-1 q 10 g kg-1) that suggest the aerodynamic drag required to entrain sand sized particles can be 30% lower in cold or high latitude settings, as compared to hot deserts. For any given regional wind velocity, this effect will increase the wind strength index and thereby the proportion of time a surface is active at low temperature.The influence of air temperature and humidity upon the threshold for particle motion is determined by three physical processes: (1) The effect of air viscosity and density on the fluid drag force acting to dislodge sedimentary particles; (2) the effect of viscosity on the turbulent wake shed from these particles, and the frequency and magnitude of burst-sweep events; and (3) the development of inter-particle cohesion via adsorbed water. This study considers the relative importance of each of these processes. The threshold friction velocity model of Shao and Lu is revised to incorporate the inter-particle force associated with hygroscopic water. It is found to perform well when tested against the experimental data obtained for this study.  相似文献

Although extensive areas of forests and grasslands are burned in the tropics, relatively little scientific attention has been focused on this phenomenon. In order to determine the land area burned and estimate the charcoal (elemental or graphitic carbon) produced, I monitored agricultural burning in a 1145 km2 area in central Panama during the 1981 dry season. Over 10% of the land surface was burned in that year. Charcoal concentrations in the aerosol were also measured and reached values of 3.1 gC/m3 during the peak in burning. Off-peak values of aerosol charcoal are less than 1 gC/m3. The high charcoal concentration reflects the massive amounts of vegetational burning occurring in the area.The charcoal advected by the air mass flowing over the area has been estimated using a box model. Assuming an average aerosol concentration of charcoal of 1 gC/m3 for a three-month burning period, a 2 km atmospheric mixed layer, a 14 km/h wind velocity to the south, and a 150 km wide zone across the western Gulf of Panama watershed, I estimate that, during the dry season, 9×109 g charcoal are mobilized by the troposphere. If 4.1×1012 g phytomass are annually burned in this region, then the charcoal emission factor to the troposphere is 2.2×10–3.  相似文献

Systematic year-round observations of submicron aerosols were carried out at Syowa Station (69°00'S, 39°35'E) in 1978. On the basis of the results of these observations, it is concluded that two types of aerosols originating from different sources are present in the Antarctic croposphere. With the intrusion of maritime air, mostly in the polar night months, sea salt particles and ammonium sulfate particles contained originally in the clean maritime air are dominant. The size distribution of such aerosols is monomodal, having a single mode at around 0.03 m in radii. On the other hand, in the sunlit months, sulfuric acid droplets are predominant and the size distribution is bimodal, having an additional mode at around 0.005 m in radii. Those sulfuric acid particles seem to be formed photochemically within a specific layer in the mid to lower troposphere over Antarctica. Most Antarctic submicron particles are of tropospheric origin, not of stratospheric nor anthropogenic origin.  相似文献

Levels of formate and acetate in dew were measured at Dayalbagh, India, usingsurrogate surfaces. The dew formed per night ranged between 0.06 lm–2 and 1.38 l m–2, with an average of 0.59l m–2. pH ranged between 6.7 and 7.4. Mean concentrations offormate and acetate in dew were 10.2 ± 10.2 eql–1 and 7.5 ± 4.5 eq l–1,respectively. The correlation coefficient between the two ions was 0.80 (p =0.001), which suggested that concentrations of these species in dew are linkedtogether. They have either common or different sources with fairly constantstrengths or products of same reaction. Good correlation of formate andacetate with Ca (r = 0.82 and r = 0.70, respectively) and Mg (r = 0.74 and r= 0.71, respectively) suggested that these ions may be associated with Ca andMg after the neutralization process. Deposition rates for formate and acetatein dew per night were 10.2 ± 7.22 mol m–2 pernight and 4.6 ± 2.2 mol m–2 per night,respectively. The theoretical Henry's law constant (K* H)and the field-observed Henry's law coefficient (K* H) ascalculated from concurrent measurements of gas phase and dew for both acidsshowed large discrepancies of three orders of magnitude.  相似文献

Ambient atmospheric aerosols and savanna fireparticulate emission samples from southern Africa werecharacterised in terms of particle classes and theirnumber abundance by electron probe X-ray microanalysis(EPXMA). About ten particle classes were identifiedfor each sample. The major classes werealuminosilicates and sea salts for ambient coarse(2–10 m equivalent aerodynamic diameter (EAD))samples, and K-S and S-only particles for ambient fine(<2 m EAD) samples. The K-S particles are oneof the major products of biomass burning. The EPXMAresults were found to be consistent with the resultsfrom bulk analyses on a sample by sample basis. Forsavanna fire fine samples, quantitative EPXMA revealedthat many particles had a composition of simple saltssuch as KCl. Some particles had a deviatingcomposition in the sense that more ionic species wereinvolved in sustaining the balance between cations andanions, and they were composite or mixed salts.Because of extensive processing during the atmospherictransport, the composition of the K-S particles in theambient samples was different from K2SO4,and such particles were enriched with S. The finepyrogenic KCl particles and the fine sea-saltparticles were much depleted in chlorine.  相似文献

Use of an airborne quartz crystal microbalance cascade impactor instrument together with a correlation spectrometer has allowed the flux of particles and their size distribution to be determined at Mount Erebus. The plume contributes 21±3 metric tomnes/day of aerosol particles to the Antarctic upper troposphere. The aerosol particles consist of larger (5–25 m) particles of elemental sulfur and silica, a middle sized group of iron oxides and smaller particles (less than 1 m) of complex liquids. Unlike many volcanic plumes, the Erebus plume has only a small amount of sulfate particles. The concentrations of particles in the Erebus plumes was 70–370 m/m3. Limited sampling of the Antarctic atmosphere at 8 km altitude but hundreds of km away from Erebus obtained a few large particles of sulfur and silicates, suggesting a similarity with the Erebus plume. The fallout of these particles occurs slowly over a broad area of the Antarctic continent.  相似文献

Eighteen soil samples from central Sudan were fractionated by dry sieving ina size fraction from <45 m to >300 m while aerosols generatedfrom these soils were fractionated in the particle size range from 0.25 mto >16 m. The elemental concentrations of soil samples were determinedby energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence, while the elemental concentrationsof generated aerosols were analysed by particle-induced X-ray emission. Theelements Al, K and Rb show a slight positive fractionation with decreasingparticle size throughout the particle size range studied. The concentrationsof Ca, Mn, Fe, Sr and Y are maximum in the small soil size fraction (<45m) and decrease for the coarse soil size fractions, while in the mineralaerosol particle sizes (0.25– > 16 m) the concentrations remainmore or less constant. The size distributions for Cr, Ti and Zr show a maximumin the particle size range 45–100 m and the concentrations of theseelements decrease sharply in the aerosol fraction down to 16 m to remainconstant in the smaller aerosol fractions.Enrichment factors for the elements were calculated relative to five referencematerials: average crustal rock, average soil, the investigated Sahara bulksoil, the finest fraction of this soil and the aerosol generated from thissoil, and using four reference elements: Al, Si, Ti and Fe. The enrichmentfactors were found to vary significantly depending on the choice of thereference material or the reference element. The enrichment factors for theSudan mineral aerosol were almost identical to those for Khartoum atmosphericaerosol but different from those for Namib mineral aerosol and Israelatmospheric aerosol following dust storms. Multivariate display methods(cluster analysis, principal component analysis and linear discriminantanalysis) were applied to the element ratios in the mineral aerosol from theSahara and Namib and this showed that these mineral aerosol can bedifferentiated into different groups. An attempt was also made to relate themineral aerosol to its parent soil through the use of these multivariatetechniques and the elemental ratios in both the mineral aerosols and the bulksoils (Namib and Sahara). It was also possible using the elemental ratios andthe multivariate display methods to associate the crustal component to themineral aerosol generated from the Sahara.  相似文献

Heterogeneous Saltation: Theory, Observation and Comparison   总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7  
In the theory of saltation, under development since the 1940s, it is often assumed that saltation is homogeneous, i.e., saltating particles are uniform in size and follow identical trajectories. This assumption is a limitation to the development of saltation theory. In this paper, as in some other studies made since the 1980s, we are concerned with the saltation of multi-sized particles in turbulent flows, a process that we refer to as heterogeneous saltation. The theory deals with several questions, including the variation of particle size distribution with height, the entrainment rates of particles in different size ranges, and the associated profiles of saltation flux, particle momentum flux and particle concentration. It is hypothesised that saltation is dynamically similar and ‘universal’ similarity functions can be established. The similarity function for saltation flux is presented. Field observations are carried out at the southern fringe of the Takla Makan Desert in April 2002. Measurements of streamwise saltation flux of 32 particle size groups are made using a sand particle counter, together with measurements of wind speed and other atmospheric variables. These data are used to validate the saltation theory, by examining whether the observed saltation flux and particle size distribution can be reproduced. It is shown that the theory is promising in predicting these quantities.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung Bei der Untersuchung einiger Bleisulfid-Photowiderstände wurde eine gute Proportionalität zwischen angelegter Spannung und Empfindlichkeit und zwischen Bestrahlungsintensität und Widerstandsänderung gefunden. Ein Temperatureffekt wurde bei kleinstflächigen Zellen nicht festgestellt, wohl aber bei den anderen untersuchten Typen. Die Untersuchung der spektralen Empfindlichkeit ergab bei den kleinstflächigen Typen eine andere Charakteristik als bei den übrigen. Die Maxima lagen bei 1,5 gegenüber 2,2 bis 2,4 bei den Zellen mit größeren Flächen. Im Ultraviolett besteht eine für viele Meßzwecke genügende Empfindlichkeit. Die überprüften Widerstände stellen gut geeignete Strahlungsempfänger für verschiedene meteorologische und bioklimatische Zwecke dar.Mit den erwähnten Zellen wurden Strahlungsdurchlässigkeiten verschiedener Nebel untersucht. Die Meßanordnungen hatten optische Schwerpunkte bei 1,5, 1,8 und 2,8 . In solchen Wellenbereichen wurde eine eindeutige Abnahme der Strahlungsdurchlässigkeit mit der Zunahme der Wellenlänge gefunden; dies ist leicht aus der Absorption der Strahlung in den Wassertröpfchen des Nebels zu erklären.
Summary Tests of several photoelectric resistances of lead sulphide showed good proportionality between applied voltage and sensibility as well as between intensity of radiation and variation of resistance. A temperature effect was found with all types of cells except those of minimum surface. The characteristic of the spectral sensibility, too, differs between the minimum surface types and the others. The first ones show maxima at 1.5 , while the maxima of cells with larger surfaces lie between 2.2 and 2.4 . A degree of sensibility sufficient for many purposes of measurement exists in the ultraviolet region. Such resistances are receivers of radiation suitable for various meteorological and bioclimatic studies. The cells mentioned above were applied in an investigation of radiation permeability of different fogs. The optical centers of the measurements lay at 1.5, 1.8 and 2.8 . In these wave-lengths an obvious decrease of radiation permeability with increase of wave-length was found, which can be easily accounted for by the absorption of radiation in the droplets of the fog.

Résumé Une étude de quelques résistances photoélectriques au sulfure de plomb a montré une bonne proportionnalité entre la tension appliquée et la sensibilité, ainsi qu'entre l'intensité du rayonnement reçu et la variation de résistance. On n'a pas remarqué d'effet de température chez les cellules de petite surface, mais bien chez les autres types étudiés. L'examen de la sensibilité spectrale a révélé chez les types à petite surface une caractéristique différente de celle des autres; les maxima se trouvent vers 1.5 contre 2.2 à 2.4 pour les cellules à grande surface. Dans l'ultraviolet il y a une sensibilité suffisante pour de nombreux usages. Les résistances contrôlées constituent des récepteurs de rayonnement bien adaptés à différents emplois météorologiques et bioclimatologiques.On a étudié avec ces cellules la transparence radiative de différents brouillards. Les dispositifs de mesure permettaient de centrer les recherches sur les longueurs d'onde de 1.5, 1.8 et 2.8 ; dans de tels domaines de radiations on a constaté une diminution nette de transparence avec l'accroissement de longueur d'onde. Cela s'explique aisément par l'absorption du rayonnement dans les gouttelettes de brouillard.

Characterisation of the carbonate content of atmospheric aerosols   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
A programme of aerosol sampling by dichotomous sampler has been undertaken with analysis of soluble ions plus carbonate. The technique for carbonate involved release of CO2 by HCl vapour and quantitative measurement of the CO2 by FTIR spectroscopy. The method is suitable for amounts down to below 10g CO3 2- per filter. The prevailing atmospheric levels in an urban area were found to be below 1g m-3. Information on the particle size from the dichotomous sampler was supplemented by use of a cascade impactor. Although CaCO3 is clearly the dominant species initial analyses demonstrated higher carbonate levels than could be accounted for on the basis of the concentrations of calcium and magnesium ions which are the most likely cations in mineral carbonates. Analysis with and without heating to 100°C in a vacuum oven demonstrates the presence of carbonate in volatile form. This could be due to carbon dioxide adsorbed onto particulate matter such as soot.  相似文献

Résumé Le problème de la densité spectrale du flux énergétique du rayonnement solaire extraterrestre a été réexaminé en relation, avec le problème de la constante solaire. En utilisant les densités spectrales de flux énergétique du rayonnement global de la photosphère, on a déterminé la distribution spectrale extraterrestre du rayonnement solaire de 0,2 à 10 . Ces nouvelles données doivent être employées dans les études actinométriques. L'application des résultats indique sous quelles formes les diverses, corrections ultraviolettes et infrarouges pour le rayonnement non observable ont été introduites pour obtenir la valeur de la constante solaire. En outre, l'explication est donnée des résultats actinométriques les plus récents.Enfin, la valeur de la constante solaire doit être égale à 1,98 calories dans l'échelle récente (1932-34-48) de la Smithsonian, Institution. Néanmoins, on retiendra qu'une erreur qui peut dépasser ±5% peut être admise tant que de nouvelles mesures,absolues des densités spectrales ou du flux total extra-terrestre n'ont pas été effectuées.
Summary The problem of the spectral density of the energy flux of the extra-terrestrial solar radiation has been examined anew in relation to the problem of the solar constant. Based on, the spectral densities of the energy flux of the total radiation of the photosphere, the extra-terrestrial spectral distribution of the solar radiation has been determined from 0,2 to 10 . These new values ought, to be employed in actinometric investigations. The use of these results shows in which manner the different ultraviolet and infra-red corrections for the radiation which cannot be observed, have been introduced for determining the solar constant. In addition, an explanation is given of the latest actinometric results.It results that the solar constant ion the new scale of the Smithsonian Institution (1932-1934-1948) must be 1.98 cal cm–2 min–1. Nevertheless, an error which can exceed ±5% must be admitted as long as newabsolute measurements of the spectral densities or of the total extra-terrestrial flux have not been carried out.

Zusammenfassung Das Problem der spektralen Dichte des Energieflusses der extraterrestrischen Sonnenstrahlung wurde im Hinblick auf das Problem der Solarkonstanten neuerdings geprüft. Unter Benützung der spektralen Dichten des Energieflusses der Gesamtstrahlung der Photosphäre wurde die Spektralverteilung der extraterrestrischen Sonnenstrahlung von 0,2 bis 10 bestimmt. Die neuen Werte sollen bei aktinometrischen Untersuchungen Verwendung finden. Aus der Untersuchung läßt sich erkennen, in welcher Form die verschiedenen, der direkten Beobachtung nicht zugänglichen Strahlungskorrektionen für Ultraviolett und Ultrarot zur Bestimmung des Wertes der Solarkonstanten eingeführt wurden; außerdem konnte für die neuesten aktinometrischen Ergebnisse eine Erklärung, gegeben werden.Aus der Untersuchung ergibt sich, daß die Solarkonstante in der neuen Skala der Smithsonian Institution (1932-1934-1948) zu 1,98 cal/cm2min angesetzt werden muß. Immerhin muß mit einer Unsicherheit von mindestens ±5% gerechnet werden, solange nicht neue Absolutbestimmungen der Spektraldichten oder des gesamten extraterrestrischen Energieflusses durchgeführt sind.

Measurements at Barrow during the second Arctic Gas and Aerosol Sampling Program (AGASP-II), conducted in April 1986, showed no rapid long-range transport from lower-latitude source regions to Barrow, and only limited vertical transport from above the boundary layer to the surface. New aerosol size distribution measurements in the 0.005–0.1 m diameter size range using a Nuclepore-filter diffusion battery apparatus showed a median diameter of about 0.01 m during times of high condensation nucleus (CN) concentrations. Aerosol black carbon concentrations exceeding 400 ng m–3 were detected at the surface and were more strongly correlated with CN concentrations than with aerosol scattering extinction (sp), suggesting that aerosol carbon was generally associated with small particles rather than large particles. Measurements at Barrow during AGASP-I, conducted in March–April 1983, showed a series of aerosol events detected at the ground that were caused by rapid long-range transport paths to the vicinity of Barrow from Eurasia. These events were strongly correlated with aerosol loading in the vertical column (optical depth).  相似文献
