This paper describes the results of a preliminary study of the heavy mineral (HM) potential of the northwest coast of Cape York Peninsula in far north Queensland that was funded by the Queensland Government's Future Resources Program Industry Priorities Initiative. The study found that the northwest coast may have the potential to host world-class HM deposits. All the essential ingredients in a HM mineral system are present: fertile source rocks, effective transport mechanisms and abundant potential trap sites, particularly along the well-preserved Pleistocene coast.

The source rocks are Proterozoic metamorphic and Paleozoic granitic rocks of the Coen Inlier and Mesozoic sedimentary rocks of the Laura and Carpentaria basins, all of which crop out along the spine of the Peninsula. These rocks were exposed in the early Cenozoic and were vigorously eroded by seasonally active rivers throughout the Quaternary. Most of these rivers are currently carrying HM, and the zircon content in river sediments in the region is comparatively high. It is speculated that in the late Pleistocene HM delivered by rivers to the northwest coast were transported predominantly in a southwesterly direction, and trapped in the swash zone of prograding beaches. It is further speculated that at this time the coastline was deeply embayed with cliffs and headlands formed in bauxite, and that structural trap sites formed on the northeastern side of prominent headlands.

Pleistocene coastal sediments were partially reworked by Holocene coastal processes, and HM liberated by these processes may have been captured by prograding Holocene beach ridges. These Holocene beach ridges are not as extensive as the Pleistocene beach ridges but are more prominent, partly because they are less well vegetated. The Holocene coastline was probably more regular than the Pleistocene coastline, with fewer headlands to create structural traps. The modern coastline is relatively starved of river sediment because the Holocene and Pleistocene coastal sediments act as barriers to river flow.

It is recommended that ongoing exploration for HM in the region should focus on potential trap sites on the Pleistocene coast and that two sites, Vrilya Point and Jackson River, where structural traps may have been formed by coastal promontories, should be priority targets. It is also noted that if the exploration of Cape York Peninsula for HM deposits is to be effective, further research needs to be carried out into the geomorphological evolution of the west coast and, in particular, the role of cyclones in forming HM deposits in tropical climates.  相似文献

The Menard pressuremeter test is a relatively expensive in situ test, which generates useful information about the strength and deformation properties of any soil and weak rock, which is carried out in some projects. On the other hand, the SPT test is a rather inexpensive, simple and typical in situ test used to determine the engineering properties of silt, clay, sand, and fine gravel which is utilised in almost all projects.

In this study SPT blow counts (N60) were correlated with pressuremeter modulus (EPMT) and limit pressure (PL) and empirical equations were proposed to estimate PL and EPMT from N60 in silty sand and silty clay soils separately. These tests have been conducted during subway geotechnical investigation in Mashhad, Iran.

Moreover, in order to verify these empirical equations, they were compared with similar equations that have been proposed by other researchers. These comparisons display that in all equations a linear relationship exists between N60 - EPMT and N60 - PL. However, the line slopes are different so it can be concluded the line slopes are related to soil type and geological condition of an area. Thus, for each area a separate empirical equation must be presented.  相似文献

Thermal events at 1690-1680, 1660-1640 and 1600-1570 Ma have been resolved by SHRIMP U---Pb geochronological study on zircons and monazites from seven localities near to the Broken Hill Pb---Zn---Ag orebody, Australia. The earliest-recognized thermal event included intrusion of now deformed granites such as Rasp Ridge Gneiss and Alma Gneiss and intrusion of gabbro at Round Hill. Previously these have been interpreted as volcanic in origin, and have been assigned to different stratigraphic units of the Palaeoproterozoic Willyama Supergroup. Because these rocks are intrusions, they should be removed from the Supergroup stratigraphic sequence. The 1640–1660 Ma thermal event reached upper amphibolite to granulite conditions and produced melt segregations in parts of the Rasp Ridge Gneiss. Granites of this age are the Purnamoota Road Gneiss, previously correlated with 1690-1680 Ma rocks assigned to the Hores Gneiss stratigraphic unit, and granitic veins within Sundown Group metapelites. The 1600-1570 Ma thermal event also reached upper amphibolite to granulite conditions. The only possible 1600-1570 Ma intrusive rock reported in this study is ‘Lf-leucogneiss’ (granite) at the Purnamoota Road locality. Melt segregations of this age have been found in the Round Hill gabbro and metamorphic segregations have been found in the Purnamoota Road Gneiss. The granite intrusions and segregations are absolute time markers for fabric development and therefore can be used to re-evaluate tectonothermal evolution of rocks close to the Broken Hill Pb---Zn orebody. Within the studied rocks several discrete high grade deformation phases have been observed. The earliest detected deformation is older than 1640–1660 Ma, but syn- or post 1690 Ma. A later deformation phase can be constrained to be pre-or syn 1640–1660 Ma and a yet later deformation phase to be syn- or post- 1600-1570 Ma. The current consensus classifies the Broken Hill Pb---Zn---Ag orebody as the metamorphosed equivalent of classic SEDEX (sedimentary-exhalative) deposits, deposited at ca 1690 Ma. This interpretation heavily relies on the Hores Gneiss being a volcanic marker horizon, because the orebody is situated, apparently conformably, within the Hores Gneiss. However, results of this study show that rocks assigned to the Hores Gneiss are of different age, thus do not form a reliable marker horizon. The present results suggest that in the Thackaringa and Broken Hill Groups in the vicinity of Broken Hill, true supracrustal rocks are ≥ 1690 Ma, rather than ca 1690 Ma as previously suggested. Large parts of rocks surrounding the orebody are intrusions and together with their host supracrustal rocks were metamorphosed and locally remelted at 1660-1640 and 1600-1570 Ma.  相似文献

The groundwater dataset developed by Angela Giblin comprises over 5000 samples across much of Australia and is a useful contribution to the mapping of groundwater chemistry across Australia (the ‘Continental Scale Hydrogeochemistry’ initiative). Sampling and analytical methodology used by Giblin differed from many other protocols. In particular, water samples were not filtered in the field, or indeed prior to analysis. However, given the number of samples and their potential utility, it would be advantageous to modify data from these samples so that they can be readily integrated with other studies.

The combined data were initially sorted to ensure consistent detection limits. Data that did not pass a thorough QA/QC assessment were rejected. Correction, and where necessary removal, of data (owing to the analytical artefacts from solids contamination during analysis) was applied. The degree of contamination in bailed samples, and what data therefore to reject, is calculated using an algorithm developed and tested for Western Australian groundwaters. Geochemical changes between sampling and delayed analysis (days or weeks later) cannot be directly quantified. Other research predicted which elements should be most affected by this. This was further tested by comparing overlapping results from Giblin with more recent data from the same sites in Western Australia and Queensland. Results showed good agreement for salinities and major ions, and for the ratio indices (K:Na, etc.) determined from such data. Saturation Index calculations for sulfates gypsum, celestine and barite also closely matched between differing datasets. There was good agreement between datasets for F, HCO3, Si, V, As, Mo, Ba and U, and moderate agreement for Li, Cr and Au. Weak agreement for pH meant that saturation indices for carbonate minerals such as calcite, dolomite, magnesite, siderite and rhodochrosite did not align, and there was very poor agreement for P, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Pb, Mn and Fe. However, in general, these comparisons indicate groundwater to be a robust geochemical medium.

Based on this study, this modified data should now be readily usable and ‘seamlessly’ comparable with other datasets. Combining data, across varying sources if necessary, allows hydrogeochemistry to be used to map geology, alteration, prospectivity and geomorphological factors from mine scale to the size of Australia.  相似文献

The meta-sedimentary rocks along Pos Selim Highway in Perak State, Malaysia showed a gradational weathering profile based on differences particularly in textures, hardness, lateral changes in colour and consistency of material extension. Both large and small scale discontinuities observed in the investigated rocks reduce the physical and mechanical properties of the rocks, and provide slip surfaces for failures. Rock and soil samples were tested using established standards to determine their characteristics and responses under a wide variety of disturbances. Kinematic analyses were also carried out to determine the modes and likely modes of failures.

Petrographic analyses revealed associated micro-structures, and the implications of these micro-structures showed shearing components along planes of weakness. From the determined index properties of the tested soil samples, the weathered quartz mica schist is not suitable for structural support. Further study involving unconsolidated undrained direct shear box tests carried out under total stress, revealed a non-uniform response of the rocks to shearing disturbance along discontinuity planes, and the rate and depth of deformation. The shear strength components of the investigated rocks were thereby prescribed in terms of cohesion and friction angle. From the kinematic analyses across this extended cut slope, there are possibilities of wedge and planar failures.  相似文献

Nauru once possessed the world's purest deposits of rock phosphate, the precursor of the agricultural fertiliser, superphosphate. This resource was almost entirely depleted during the 20th century, mainly destined for Australia and New Zealand, where it played a critical role in the economic, social and demographic development of these nations and their biological transformation to outposts of temperate Northern Hemisphere flora.

By the early 1990s, the primary phosphate that had once blanketed the island had been almost completely removed, exposing a dramatic buried landscape of karst pinnacles and transforming Nauru into the world's most environmentally altered nation. Investigations into the rehabilitation of the mined-out area began in 1953, but all rejected the idea of restoration on the grounds of expense. In 1993, Nauru won an out-of-court settlement of A$135 million from Australia for restitution of the phosphate lands. No rehabilitation has yet taken place, however, and the project is unlikely to succeed. The soil stockpiled for the project is inadequate in quantity, in fertility, in elemental composition, in water retention capacity, and contains toxic levels of cadmium. Rainfall is too unreliable to support regular cultivation and the Nauruans possess no tradition of agriculture.

One alternative to rehabilitation is to exploit the terrain that has been exhumed from beneath the phosphate overburden. This closely resembles the Nauruan landscape of a quarter of a million years ago, before humans arrived and before phosphate buried the land. Such spitzkarren landscapes elsewhere in the tropics are venerated as landscape wonders and revered as scientific marvels. They are protected by World Heritage status and receive millions of visitors a year. The end of mining in Nauru is meanwhile leading to the re-establishment of an ecologically valuable and visually striking indigenous vegetation. This spectacular new landscape should be preserved, not destroyed, and exploited as a global travel destination.  相似文献

We modelled thermo-rheological perturbations, related to the emplacement of a magmatic body in the upper crust. This approach was considered relevant for the areas characterized by elevated surface heat flow and chiefly for the geothermal fields. The numerical conductive thermal model applied to the Larderello geothermal area in Tuscany, allowed to constrain size, depth and timing of emplacement of the pluton. We inferred that the emplacement of a magmatic body, at a minimum depth of 3 km, having a horizontal extension of 14 km and a maximum thickness of 8 km, can reasonably reproduce the observed regional surface heat flow anomaly of the Larderello area, when 300 (± 100) kyr are elapsed from the magma emplacement. Even assuming an incremental growth, the first magma injection should not be older than 1 ± 0.3 Ma.

Results of the thermal model were used to set up a rheological model and to simulate the drifting of the brittle-ductile transition during the cooling of the pluton. A comparison with the K-horizon profile, a prominent seismic reflector in the Larderello area, was then performed. It was found that the K-horizon approximately corresponds with the pluton roof and with the current location of the brittle-ductile transition.  相似文献

For many decades most oil wells in Iran have produced using their natural flow potential and haven’t needed to be fractured. As time goes by, the reservoir pressure depletes and the need for hydraulic fracturing as a stimulation practice arises. Nonetheless there is no record of successful hydraulic fracturing in Iran.

The Bangestan reservoir with a suitable amount of oil in place and good rock reservoirs, has been selected for the present research work. In this work, the in situ stress profile was calculated by using the available petrophysical data. This is achieved by using poroelastic theory for the stresses, and the Mohr–Coulomb criterion to predict failure. The model leads to easily computed expressions for calculating the pressure required to maintain hydraulic fracturing. Then the appropriate depth for treatment was determined. The results indicate that Ilam and Sarvak formations could be good candidates for hydraulic fracturing. Then, for two layers, a hydraulic fracture was designed and the production was predicted and the Net Present Value (NPV) resulting from the fracture of both layers was investigated.  相似文献

The paper presents rational procedures to estimate normalised shear modulus and damping ratio from measured responses of reinforced soil model walls tested in a 1-g shaking table. Displacement measured at the top of the model walls and input base acceleration time histories are used to produce equivalent hysteretic responses of the model walls. Equivalent hysteretic loops at different strain amplitudes are developed and used to calculate normalised modulus degradation curves and damping ratio for the tested model walls. Model wall responses are also analysed using the single degree of freedom (SDOF) model to determine damping ratio and phase difference, and to verify the validity of SDOF model for application with reinforced soil walls.

Results indicate that the normalised shear modulus significantly decreased at the early stage of the base shaking (i.e. γs < 0.03%). For example, about 68% and 80% reductions in shear modulus occurred at γs = 0.005% and 0.01% respectively. In addition, a 90% reduction in the normalised shear modulus realised at relatively strong input base acceleration (i.e. for γs > 0.03%). Minimum damping ratio of 5% to 10% for both model walls was obtained, increased to 15% to 20% at strain amplitude γs = 0.3%, and reached higher values thereafter. Finally, dynamic properties determined from the proposed method are compared with experimental and empirical relationships proposed in literature as well as resonant column test results.  相似文献

Two multi-year oxygen isotope (δ18O) records were obtained from archaeological Ostrea angasi shells, confirming the potential of this species to provide valuable environmental records for the late Holocene period in southeastern Australia. High-resolution δ18Oshell samples from the O. angasi clearly display a seasonal variability, offering insight into past climate conditions in a region where such information is presently limited.

The oxygen isotope record in O. angasi reflects a combined temperature–salinity signal. Observations of δ18Oshell data from modern specimens are used as a point of reference to assist in decoupling these two influences, with the two archaeological samples compared with the δ18Oshell profile of four modern O. angasi. Assuming similar paleo- δ18Owater values at the collection sites, data from these archaeological shells present a record of temperatures during the period of their growth that are consistently lower than modern day, with mean annual temperatures ~2°C cooler.  相似文献

For decades of exploration, geologists have made great achievements in the exploration of lacustrine carbonate rocks. By dissecting four typical cases of lacustrine carbonate rocks, such as Lucaogou Formation of Permian in Junggar Basin, Da'anzhai Section of Jurassic in Sichuan Basin, Cretaceous in Yin'e Basin and Oligocene in Qaidam Basin, the reservoir characteristics, hydrocarbon generating capacity and reservoir forming model of source rocks were analyzed. The results show that: Lacustrine carbonate reservoirs are generally dense, with nano-micron reservoir space as the main reservoir space, including dolomite intergranular pore, organism cavity and accumulation pore, micro-fracture system and its corrosion expansion pore. Saline environment is beneficial to dolomitization and can improve the reservoir capacity of lacustrine carbonate rocks, but most of the permeability is less than 0.1 mD. Lacustrine carbonate rocks have not only reservoir capacity, but also can be used as source rocks. The abundance of organic matter is not high and the maturity is generally low. However, dispersed soluble organic matter in source rocks can generate and expel hydrocarbons in large quantities at low maturity stage, which has high liquid hydrocarbon yield. Oil and gas reservoirs are characterized by "high initial production, large reduction of production and long-term low and stable production", and are typical "fracture-pore" reservoirs. Fracture networks provide migration pathways in the process of primary migration and accumulation of oil and gas in geological history and oil and gas exploitation nowadays. Oil and gas reservoirs are "continuous" unconventional reservoirs, which often form regional oil and gas field groups together with conventional reservoirs in adjacent areas. The research results lay a theoretical foundation for re-evaluating the exploration potential of lacustrine carbonate rocks.  相似文献

文章采用ArcGIS和SPSS22.0软件分析珠江三级支流漓江上游大溶江流域内土壤pH、电导率、粒度、土壤总氮(TN)、土壤有机碳(TOC)、土壤无机碳(TIC)及其在空间上的分布特征,结果显示:(1)研究区土壤pH平均值在土下20 cm处为4.04~6.23,土下50 cm处为4.02~6.53,体现出土壤的地带性特征,土壤电导率均值为352.93 μs?cm-1(变化范围为145.00~1 015.00 μs?cm-1),流域内不同地质背景的土壤pH和土壤电导率具有显著差异性;(2)土壤粒径以粉粒含量最高(59.39%),其次是沙粒(33.26%),黏粒含量最低(7.36%),黏粒和粉粒含量随土壤深度增加而增加,沙粒含量随土壤深度的增加而减少;土壤体积含水量为22.04%~46.45%,在土下20 cm 处土壤体积含水量均值为31.55%,在土下50 cm时土壤体积含水量均值为30.98%;(3)流域内土壤的TN、TOC和TIC平均含量分别为1.50 g?kg-1、15.25 g?kg-1、16.89 g?kg-1,其空间分布与土地利用类型一致,均表现为林地高、耕地低的特征;垂直分布上,土壤中碳、氮含量随着土壤深度增加而降低,主要是由于表层土壤最先接收枯枝落叶等腐殖质的分解,使碳、氮等营养物质在地表富集所致;(4)流域内土壤TOC、TIC、TN均与黏粒、粉粒含量呈负相关,与沙粒含量呈正相关,pH与黏粒、粉粒含量呈正相关,与沙粒呈负相关;流域内土壤TN与TIC、TOC均呈极显著正相关,与电导率呈显著负相关;TIC含量和TOC含量之间具有极显著正相关关系,与体积含水量和电导率呈显著负相关。   相似文献

Sludge is a kind of solid waste with high natural moisture content and extremely poor mechanical properties. Adopting effective technical methods for rapid dewatering and increasing strength is an important prerequisite for realizing the utilization and efficient utilization of sludge resources. In this paper, discrete short-staple polypropylene fiber was selected as the reinforced material, cement and fly ash were used as the solidified materials. The unconfined compression test was carried out to study the strength change of the fiber reinforced solidified sludge in the drying path, and the drying was analyzed. The influence mechanism of different target moisture content states(5 % ~45 % ) and fiber content(0~0.8 % ) on the strength of reinforced solidified sludge during the process. The results show that: The addition of fiber can effectively improve the peak strength and residual strength of solidified sludge, and the strength value increases first and then decreases with the increase of fiber content, and the optimal fiber content is 0.1 % . During the drying process, the sample of the unconfined compressive strength increases with the decrease of the moisture content of approximate to linear, and the damage form by the plastic damage to brittle fracture transition gradually, and the addition of fibers can effectively restrain the brittle failure sample, enhance the toughness of specimen. The contribution of fiber reinforcement to the strength of solidified sludge increases gradually with the decrease of moisture content, and the root cause is that the fiber-sludge interface force can be better excited under the condition of low moisture content.  相似文献

The contradiction between the rapid development of aviation market and supply of airspace resources has increased the environmental damages of aviation carbon emission. The conversion and application of environmental damage assessment method of aviation carbon emission were summarized, and the characteristics of the assessment methods for air and ground transportation were compared. We found out the followings: The evaluation method has been transformed from static assessment to dynamic evaluation, and focused on four key problems, average and total carbon emissions, airspace resource utilization, LTO stage emission, and reduction practice; Airport terminal area as well as LTO are becoming the focus in the study of aviation carbon emission assessment method, while the former is the main area and the latter is the main stage of aviation carbon emission. The practice of emission reduction is mainly reflected in the optimization of emission reduction measures in economic field; Based on the situation and total assessment methods, environmental damage assessment and comparative advantage of aviation carbon emission and ground transportation carbon emission are reflected in the distance by using distance factor and energy consumption; Improving the smoothness of airspace resource traffic network, optimizing flight schedule structure and airspace resource allocation are more conducive to promoting aviation emission reduction.  相似文献

利用单一210Pb技术来估算岩溶区土壤侵蚀、水土流失和泥沙来源等还存在一定问题。岩溶区土层厚度不一,难以准确地确定支持性210Pb放射比活度是制约该方法应用的一大关键问题。文章选取桂林西北郊光明山岩溶峰丛坡地的4个土壤剖面,测试了土壤剖面210Pb与226Ra放射性比活度,探讨其分布规律及影响因素,初步确定土壤中支持性210Pb放射性比活度。测试结果表明4个土壤剖面中210Pb垂向分布服从指数衰变规律, 226Ra放射性比活度随土壤深度增加基本不变。光明山峰丛山坡土壤中约95%的210Pbex主要聚集在0~10 cm深度处,地表20~30 cm以下基本为支持性210Pb。土壤中支持性210Pb放射性比活度约为56.60±11.97 Bq?kg-1,与226Ra放射性比活度值64.93±8.83 Bq?kg-1在误差范围内一致。进一步研究发现,土壤剖面中210Pb受研究区大气干湿沉降、植被覆盖类型、地形条件、土壤特性(特别是有机质)的影响。此外,研究区土壤剖面226Ra的差异主要与土壤特性和植被类型有关。   相似文献

The Mullaley Sub-basin of the Gunnedah Basin extends from Quirindi in the southeast, to north of Narrabri, to west of Dunedoo in northern New South Wales. There have been more than 100 boreholes sunk to basement investigating the (lower Permian) Cisuralian coal and coal seam gas resources of the Mullaley Sub-basin since the early 1990s. A desktop review of this open file information has allowed the formal correlation and naming of six Cisuralian coal members attaining a maximum 35 m of cumulative thickness within an upward coarsening sedimentary package totalling no more than 150 m. In ascending order, the coal members are: Bibblewindi (0–10 m), Bohena (3–18 m), Collygra (0.5–3 m), Coxs (1.5–4 m), Tullamullen (0.5–4 m) and Mooki (0.5–3 m).

Cisuralian coal seams in the Maules Creek Formation of the southern Mullaley Sub-basin are here correlated with those of the Greta Coal Measures at Werris Creek and Muswellbrook. It is apparent that basement paleotopography played a significant role in the Cisuralian coal development as coals are best developed where the sedimentary sequence is greater than 60 m thick, as there the thick seams (Bohena and Bibblewindi coal members) occur towards the base of the sequence. The maximum western limit of the Cisuralian coals (Rocky Glen Ridge) is further east than previously inferred with new drilling information showing the Porcupine Formation directly overlying the barren pelletoidal claystones of the Leard Formation or the underlying volcanics (Boggabri Volcanics/Werrie Basalt). Early marine transgressions at the top of the Maules Creek Formation have stopped development of the Mooki, Tullamullen and Coxs coal members in the northern and eastern Mullaley Sub-basin and allowed the development of localised paraconglomerate (diamictite) intervals up to 10 m thick. Thick (>20 m cumulative) coal occurrences are localised to the Jacks Creek and Pilliga East State Forest areas southwest of Narrabri. The coal resource potential of the Mullaley Sub-basin is estimated at 13–28 billion tonnes.  相似文献

Groundwater, as a drinking water source for nearly one third of the world’s urban population, plays a strategic role in the development of urbanization. The object of this study is urban areas with the largest demand for water resources, the heaviest load of groundwater pollution and the most intense development of underground projects. This study sorted out the eco-hydrological problems such as the variation of the groundwater hydrological process, the groundwater pollution, and the urban heat island of groundwater in urban areas under the background of urbanization. Furthermore, the mechanism of changes in the quantity, quality and heat of groundwater was also systematically analyzed, and the intrinsic interaction among these three factors was revealed. The study showed that changes in land use and land cover caused by the urbanization are the main reasons for the variation of groundwater hydrological process. The pollution load of urbanization construction and domestic production waste has aggravated the deterioration of groundwater quality. The increase in vertical heat flux caused by urbanization gives rise to the warming of groundwater. By summarizing the eco-hydrological problems and causes of groundwater in urbanized areas, several suggestions were proposed: Establishing the evaluation method and system of urban groundwater resources; Speeding up the technological breakthroughs of groundwater pollution control; Improving the regional control strategies for groundwater pollution; Optimizing the allocation of groundwater resources. This study will provide the theoretical basis and technical support for ensuring urban water safety, building ecological civilized cities and further promoting the sustainable development of economy and society.  相似文献

The concept and category of wind-sand engineering were discussed in this paper. The development processes of wind-sand engineering in China were reviewed preliminarily. Based on different regional environments, wind-sand engineering research in our country can be divided into two parts: aeolian research of major engineering in desert areas, and aeolian research of major engineering in other areas with special environment. Further than that, aeolian research of major engineering in desert areas can be divided into 4 stages, and aeolian research of major engineering in other areas with special environment mainly focuses on tropical coastal areas, Tibet Plateau and gobi in arid areas. Our research suggests that the development trends of major wind-sand engineering can be summarized as the following aspects. Various tectonic models have been proposed to account for the widely distributed igneous activities in the southeastern part of the South China Block (SCB) during the Triassic–Jurassic period. One of the major contending debates is on the timing of initiation of the palaeo-Pacific plate subduction under the SCB, due to lack of unequivocal evidence for arc magmatism during the period in this region.

The 191 ± 10 Ma (N = 5, MSWD = 12) calc-alkalic high-K I-type Talun metagranite occurs in the southern Tailuko belt of the Tananao metamorphic complex, Taiwan. In terms of age, this metagranite belongs to the Early Yanshanian igneous activity in the southeastern part of the SCB. However, its geographic position does not accord with the well-known general oceanward younging trend of the Yansnanian igneous rocks. In view of the large age uncertainty reported, this metagranite is redated in this study. Some zircons of this metagranite are high in U content and are metamict. Zircons with low U contents are analysed by SHRIMP yielding a more precise age of 200 ± 2 Ma (N = 10, MSWD = 4). In particular, the εHf(t) of these dated zircons ranges from +4.5 to +12.9. The metagranite mainly consists of quartz, K-feldspar, plagioclase, with minor amounts of garnet, biotite, zircon, apatite, and pyrrhotite. Chlorite and calcite are secondary phases overprinted by the later tectonic event(s). Its initial Sr isotope compositional range is 0.70473–0.70588, and εNd(t), +2.4 to +3.6. The results demonstrate that the genesis of this metagranite could be attributed to the assimilation-fractionation of a depleted mantle-derived basaltic magma, which was most likely related to arc magmatism. The present study therefore offers key evidence that during the Mesozoic, the palaeo-Pacific plate subduction underneath the SCB would have taken place no later than the very early Jurassic.  相似文献
