The origin and diagenesis of cherts from Cyprus   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The Troodos Massif of Cyprus is overlain by a variety of cherts in pelagic chalks, volcanogenic sediments, radiolarites and radiolarian mudstones, all of Campanian to Upper Eocene age. There are two chert types, granular chert and vitreous chert. X-ray diffraction (XRD) reveals the silica polymorphs, disordered cristobalite and quartz. Silicification of the chalks varies from incipient, to bedded, granular cherts, all with disordered cristobalite as the main silica phase. Quartzitic cherts are restricted to the base of Upper Palaeocene and Lower Eocene calciturbidite beds. Disordered cristobalite predominates in the radiolarian mudstones at the foot of the sequence. The form of disordered cristobalite in cavities ranges from microspherules of radiating bladed crystals, the ‘lepispheres’ of the Deep Sea Drilling Project (DSDP) to bladed overgrowths, and fibrous silica. In contrast, within the fine grained matrix, the disordered cristobalite takes the form of partly coalescent crude microgranules and microspherules. Most of the chalcedonic quartz in Cyprus is derived by recrystallization of previously inorganically precipitated disordered cristobalite rather than by direct precipitation. According to the concept of impurity-controlled maturation the composition of host sediment controls the incorporation of exchangeable cations and other impurities into inorganically precipitated disordered cristobalite. With time (up to 100 million years) internal solid state reorganization of the disordered cristobalite is accompanied by gradual expulsion of impurities, until the cristobalite dissolves followed by quartz precipitation. Complete conversion to quartz takes place first in porous calcareous sediments free of impurities, as in the Cyprus calciturbidites; in fine grained clay-rich sediments, like Cyprus radiolarian mudstones, disordered cristobalite persists much longer. Impurity-controlled maturation also helps explain the diagenesis of Cyprus chert nodules.  相似文献

北窝棚膨润土矿是近几年在阜新地区紫于盆地中发现的几处膨润土矿之一,为了全面评价北窝棚膨润土矿物理化学特性,利用X射线荧光仪、X射线粉晶衍射仪、红外光谱仪、差热分析仪等测试技术,对北窝棚膨润土矿进行了系统分析研究。测试结果显示:北窝棚膨润土矿主要化学成分为Si O2和A12O3,次要成分中Ca O和Mg O含量较高,K2O和Na2O的含量相对较低,属于钙基膨润土;膨润土矿中主要矿物组分为蒙脱石,杂质矿物为长石、石英和方石英;红外光谱分析和差热分析也验证了北窝棚膨润土矿为钙基膨润土,并具有良好的耐热性能。对合理开发北窝棚膨润土矿具有十分重要的指导意义。  相似文献

This paper aims to prepare purified Na-bentonite with improved properties for its use in the pharmaceutical industry. Calcium bentonite from the Sohag region of Egypt was activated with various proportions of sodium carbonate (2, 3, 5 and 8 wt.%). Additionally, bentonite was purified by sedimentation to eliminate impurities, especially quartz. The results of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and swelling volume data confirmed that raw bentonite was converted to sodium bentonite using 5% Na2CO3. The sodium bentonite (M5) obtained by activation met the chemical and microbiological requirements set by the pharmacopoeias regarding toxic trace elemental contents (As, Pb and Cd), the absence of E. coli, the total contents of aerobic microbes and physicochemical properties such as swelling volume, pH and sedimentation volume. Therefore, (M5) bentonite can be designated as being potentially appropriate for pharmaceutical applications. The cation exchange capacity (CEC), surface area, porosity, pH, gel formation and swelling volume data indicated that M5 bentonite could be used to formulate oral suspensions and in topical application.  相似文献

The mordenite ore deposit of Los Escullos has a surface area of 106 m2 with an average thickness of 5 m and estimated reserves of 7,500,000 tons of mordenite–bentonite. It is made up of horizontal layers of interbedded epiclastic tuffs with volcanic bentonitised materials which have been subjected to hydromagmatic activity. The layers are essentially composed of bentonite and mordenite with lesser amounts of quartz, cristobalite, biotite, plagioclase, chlorite, amphiboles, titanomagnetite, ilmenite and calcite. The harder layers display a higher proportion of plagioclase crystals and are enriched in Al2O3, CaO, Fe2O3, TiO2, P2O5, Cu, Zn, Co, Cr, Ni and V, while the more altered layers contain larger contents of SiO2, K2O and Y. The amount of sodium increases (from 2% to 4%) relative to depth. Alteration processes resulted in a reduction in the contents of CaO, K2O and MnO and increase in Na2O and MgO. The beds of volcanic ash-tuffs have been devitrified by hydrothermal solutions giving rise to bentonites and sodium- and silica-rich residual fluids which have partly crystallized as mordenite and cristobalite. The raw material (mordenite–bentonite) can be improved removing biotite (magnetic separation) and plagioclase and quartz (by floating methods); however, the mordenite–bentonite mineral assemblage is practically impossible to separate due to the size of the crystals (average 0.5 μm under SEM–EDAX). In turn, this upgraded raw material has very useful properties (total area=520 m2/g and cation exchange capacity=70 meq/100 g) which may make it suitable for use in absorption processes (e.g. deodorization, cationic exchange), catalysis and molecular sieving.  相似文献

黑山膨润土及其酸化土、碱处理酸化土的X射线衍射数据及放大4500倍和33000倍的扫描电镜照片展示了不同浓度硫酸与膨润土作用后膨润土结构的变化及微观形貌的变化。分析表明:膨润土的主要矿物组分是蒙脱石,还有少量方英石和长石,膨润土经酸化改性后,随着硫酸浓度的增加,蒙脱石含量减少,结晶程度变差,颗粒表面粗糙程度增加。这为研究膨润土的酸化改性机理提供了重要的科学依据。  相似文献

In this paper diatomite samples taken from the Leizhou Peninsula have been studied by chemical analysis, DTA, TG, XRD, IR ,SEM and X-ray Energy Spectroscopy.The study shows that the diatomaceous genera and species and their organic contents are variable with buried depth ,from Melosira to Stephanodiscus and then to Cyclotella. Various impurities in the samples, such as quartz, kaolinite and montmorillonite indicate different sedimentary environments. When heated, the diatom would change in shape due to the phase transformation in which amorphous silica crystallized from disordered opal to ordered cristobalite. The temperatures of phase transformation are different for various diatoms due to the presence of different impurities and constituents of diatomaceous genera and species.  相似文献

We have investigated the high-pressure behavior of cristobalite in helium by powder X-ray diffraction. Cristobalite transformed to a new phase at about 8 GPa. This phase is supposed to have a molar volume of about 30 % larger than cristobalite, suggesting the dissolution of helium atoms in its interstitial voids. On further compression, the new phase transformed to a different phase which showed an X-ray diffraction pattern similar to cristobalite X-I at about 21 GPa. On the other hand, when the new phase was decompressed, it transformed to another new phase at about 7 GPa, which is also supposed to have a molar volume of about 25 % larger than cristobalite. On further decompression, the second new phase transformed to cristobalite II at about 2 GPa. In contrast to cristobalite, quartz did not show anomalous behavior in helium. The behavior of cristobalite in helium was also consistent with that in other mediums up to about 8 GPa, where the volume of cristobalite became close to that of quartz. These results suggest that dissolution of helium may be controlled not only by the density (amount of voids) but also by the network structure of SiO4 tetrahedra (topology of voids).  相似文献

研究了广丰李家钠基膨润土的压实性能,得出了不同压实功作用下,膨润土干密度与含水率之间的关系.以及粒径、压实功等因素对压实性能的影响;在相同压实功和相同含水率条件下,膨润土粒径较小时相对应的干密度较小.当压实功为2684.9kJ/m^3时,钠基膨润土的最大干密度可达1.525g/cm^3,最优含水率为26.30%。首次选用石英砂作为添加荆,探索了添加荆对膨润土压实性能的改善作用,实验结果说明石英砂添加荆的加入可以大大提高膨润土的干密度。减小对应的最优含水率,并得出约10%的石英砂是添加剂的最佳用量。该研究结果为钠基膨润土作为高放废物处置库缓冲/回填材料的性能评价提供了重要的依据。  相似文献

前言红泉膨润土矿床具有两个显著的特点:(1) 既有钠基膨润土、钙基膨润土,还有一定数量的镁基膨润土;(2)在一般情况下,钙基膨润土在上,钠基膨润土在下,然而红泉膨润土则具有相反的空间分布,即所谓“逆向”分布的现象。红泉膨润土矿中镁基膨润土的发现和研究,不但丰富了膨润土成矿规律的认识,同时还为镁基膨润土的物化工艺性能及应用的研究提供了条件。  相似文献

The bentonite deposit of Lahij Province, Yemen, has very promising commercial applications due to its mineralogy and physical and chemical properties. It was examined to determine its mineralogical composition, chemical and physical properties of the bentonite deposit, purity and sodium-exchanged bentonite. Modified bentonite was synthesized by exchanging cetyltrimethylammonium cations for inorganic ions on the bentonite and its adsorption properties for ammonium were characterized in batch experiments. Analytical methods were carried out to study the bentonite comprising X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), infrared spectroscopy, chemical analysis and kinetic and isotherm models were also tested. The results have shown that the purification of bentonite resulted in a bentonite fractions of the total sample composed of montmorillonite and <5 % quartz. The XRD data showed that the interlayer spacing (d 001) of bentonite decreased from 15.3 to 12.5 Å and then increased to 19.7 Å. Moreover, high cation exchange capacity, good water absorption and high swelling capacity were also obtained. The results have shown that the modified bentonite was more effective than the natural bentonite for ammonium removal. In addition to that, pseudo-second-order kinetic model, Freundlich and the Langmuir models described the adsorption kinetics and isotherm well. It was concluded that Yemen (Alaslef) bentonite can be potential adsorbents for ammonium removal.  相似文献

高放废物地下处置库运营过程中,衬砌混凝土在地下水作用下产生的强碱性溶液,会扩散进入膨润土缓冲屏障,长期将使屏障性能发生退化。采用不同 pH 值的 KOH 溶液模拟衬砌混凝土溶出的碱性溶液,在室内进行为期一年的常温接触扩散试验,开展X射线荧光光谱(X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy,简称XRF)、X射线衍射(X-ray diffraction,简称 XRD)、扫描电镜(scanning electron microscope,简称 SEM)和能谱(energy dispersive spectrometry,简称 EDS)试验,研究强碱性溶液缓慢扩散对高庙子膨润土矿物的影响。XRF试验结果表明,当 KOH 溶液的 pH>12.6时,膨润土中 Si 元素的含量开始减少,即含Si 矿物蒙脱石、石英、方石英等发生了溶解;同时,K元素含量增多,表明膨润土与碱溶液发生离子交换反应,溶液中大量的K+进入蒙脱石层间。XRD 试验结果表明,在 pH=12.6时,蒙脱石矿物的 001峰开始右移、变宽,峰值强度大大减弱;在pH>13时,衍射角θ整体向右偏,晶面间距由原始膨润土样的1.385 3 nm(13.853 Å)减小为1.221 0 nm(12.210 Å),表明蒙脱石矿物晶层被压缩。随着 KOH 溶液 pH 值增大,膨润土中蒙脱石、石英等矿物的含量明显减少,长石类矿物的含量逐渐增加,伊利石和斜发沸石的含量也呈现略微增多的趋势。SEM 试验结果表明,随着溶液 pH 的增大,蒙脱石部分晶层会发生重叠,进而产生部分裂隙和孔洞,加速蒙脱石的溶蚀进程。在为期一年的接触扩散试验中,pH=13.8的 KOH 溶液扩散深度超过7.5 mm,并且在碱溶液与膨润土接触面上观察到新生成的伊利石微晶,证实强碱性溶液会导致蒙脱石溶解及伊利石化。  相似文献

The degree of polymerization of silica in aqueous solution is calculated from quartz and cristobalite solubility and the free energy of the polymorphic transition. At temperatures below 130° C, the existing solubility data are not all compatible with a simple monomeric solute model. A combination of monomeric and tetrameric silica species is shown to be compatible with most of the chemical data on silica solutions. The analysis indicates that the low temperature solubilities of quartz and/or cristobalite must be more accurately defined or that the presence of polymeric silica in solution has been overlooked.  相似文献

The distribution of substitutional Al, Ti, and Ge impurities in quartz samples from the Darasun, Teremkinskoe, and Talatui gold deposits, located in the Darasun ore field, were studied by electron paramagnetic resonance. The relationship between the isomorphous substitution and dynamic recrystallization of quartz was studied by optical and scanning electron microscopy. It was found that analysis of the plots of interdependence between the concentrations of various substitutional impurities in quartz (isogens) can detect development trends of isomorphous substitution. Two isomorphous substitution stages were recognized, one associated with quartz crystallization, and the other, with its subsequent dynamic recrystallization. The first stage is characterized by incorporation of Al impurity into the quartz crystal lattice, and the second, by incorporation Ti impurity. A Ge impurity is a catalyst for isomorphous substitution, and its concentrations vary widely. It is noted that the second stage plays a decisive role, because it accounts for the incorporation of the larger part of substitutional impurities. This process is facilitated by the dynamic recrystallization of quartz. Four genetic quartz groups, described by individual isogens, have been recognized in the Darasun ore field. Two of them correspond to quartz crystallized directly from a magmatogenic fluid or redeposited with the melt’s participation, and the other two groups, to quartz crystallized from an altered fluid. It was found that substitutional Al concentrations are retained in quartz after redeposition, whereas substitutional Ti concentrations decrease dramatically Mineral formation processes at each gold deposit are reviewed. Two types of temperature zoning, normal and reverse, have been recognized at the Darasun deposit. Each is characterized by an individual genetic quartz group and the degree of closedness of the mineral formation system. The genetically similar magmatogenic quartz samples found at the Darasun and Talatui deposits indicate the uniformity of the mineralization process in the Darasun ore field. The established trends of isomorphous substitution in quartz are useful in studies of the ore formation histories of gold and other ore deposits.

Several computer models of quartz were developed and tested. A simple model based on a potential energy function, derived in large part from quantum mechanical calculations on the molecule H6Si2O7, was found to reproduce the compressibility curve for quartz up to pressures of 8 GPa. The potential includes quadratic expressions for the SiO bond lengths, the OSiO angles and a parameter spanning the SiOSi angle together with an exponential OO repulsion term for non co-dimer O atoms. The variations in the cell edges and in the SiOSi angle, as a function of pressure, parallel observed trends when the bond lengths and angles calculated for the molecule are used as rgressor values. Poisson ratios calculated using the model match those observed. Two configurations for quartz related by the Dauphiné twin law are generated as minimum energy structures of the model with about equal frequencies as observed in nature. It is shown that the model, devised for quartz, can also be applied to the silica polymorph cristobalite, giving reasonable estimates of its compressibility curve, structural parameters and its negative Poisson ratio. When the observed bond lengths and angles are used as regressor values, the model generates the absolute coordinates of the atoms and the cell dimensions for quartz to within 0.005 Å and those of cristobalite to within 0.001 Å, on average, both at zero pressure. When applied to coesite, the model yields a zero pressure structure that is close to that observed but which is significantly softer than observed. The resulting SiO bond lengths are linearly correlated with f s (O), as observed for coesite, despite the use of a single bond length and a single SiOSi angle as regressor values in the calculation. When the structures are optimized assuming P1 space group symmetry and triclinic cell dimensions, the resulting frameworks of silicate tetrahedra exhibit the translational, rotational and reflection symmetries observed for quartz, cristobalite and coesite. The fact that the resulting frameworks exhibit observed space group symmetries is evidence that the symmetry adopted by the silica polymorphs can be explained by short ranged forces.  相似文献

采用淘析法、激光粒度分析法、渗透过滤法、显微镜法对膨润土及石英的粒度进行测量比较分析。实验结果表明:4种方法得到的粒度由大到小依次为淘析法、激光粒度分析法、显微镜法、渗透过滤法;由于凝聚的影响,淘析法与激光粒度分析法测试结果粒度偏大;渗透法分析结果与显微镜法结果较为接近;膨润土在水中崩解的粒度比石英要小,但采用沉降法分离提纯,膨润土比石英更易于团聚,因此在湿法提纯研究中,有必要添加分散剂。  相似文献

对紫都台-于寺盆地内二道河、哈尔套、北窝棚及下扎兰波罗等膨润土矿床进行了系统采样、处理,开展与矿床相关的赋矿岩系岩石学及矿物学特征研究。通过基本分析、XRD、化学全分析、阳离子交换量等手段对样品进行测试,研究结果表明沉凝灰岩、流纹质熔结凝灰岩、砂砾质凝灰岩等富含火山玻璃的岩石更易于水解形成膨润土矿。膨润土总体呈碱性,矿物组成以蒙脱石为主,其次为石英、斜长石等伴生矿物。XRD及阳离子交换量表明盆地北部二道河及哈尔套膨润土矿发育钙基及钠基膨润土,并呈现上部钙基膨润土、下部钠基膨润土的分层特征,对盆地南部下扎兰波罗及北窝棚膨润土矿的深部寻找钠基膨润土矿具有指导意义。  相似文献

总结了蒙脱石的各种提纯方法及其试验原理和提纯分离效果。主要涉及重力选矿、水力分析、絮凝法、离心分离和化学提纯。对电泳法提纯作了简介。研究证实,与蒙脱石粒度相近的方石英和石英微粒等杂质很难去除。氢氧化钠溶蚀法会对蒙脱石、石英和方石英同时产生溶蚀,引入新的物相杂质。  相似文献

We report relative enthalpy measurements on quartz, cristobalite and amorphous SiO2 between 1000 and 1800 K. We have observed a glass transition around 1480 K for amorphous SiO2. From our results and available Cp, relative enthalpy, and enthalpy of solution data we have derived a consistent set of thermodynamic data for these phases. Our calculated enthalpies of fusion are 8.9 ± 1.0 kJ mole?1 for cristobalite at 1999 K and 9.4 ± 1.0 kJ mole?1 at 1700 K for quartz.  相似文献

Mechanisms of the incorporation of isomorphic impurities of Al, Ti, and Ge into quartz were studied by EPR techniques. For this purpose, laboratory experiments were carried out on quartz annealing, which allowed us to model the processes of impurity atom introduction into the quartz lattice. The investigation of the kinetics of these processes showed that they are described by diffusion-controlled reactions. In many samples, a proportional relationship was observed between the concentrations of Al and Ti impurities incorporated into the quartz structure during laboratory annealing. A comparison of the experimental results with the character of the natural distribution of isomorphic impurities in quartz revealed their similarity. Based on the analysis of the results of our investigations, two main mechanisms were proposed for isomorphic substitutions in quartz. One of them is referred to as the capture mechanism and corresponds to the incorporation of isomorphic impurities during mineral formation. The second, diffusion mechanism operates after the crystallization of quartz. The isomorphic impurities incorporated into the quartz structure by this mechanism are either formed through the decomposition and transformation of composite complexes or as a result of diffusion from crystalline and gas-liquid inclusions. It was suggested that both mechanisms are responsible for the incorporation of Al and Ge impurities into the mineral lattice, whereas Ti is introduced mainly by the diffusion mechanism. The accounting for the mechanisms of isomorphic substitutions provides a means to significantly increase the reliability of the interpretation of genetic information recorded in the distribution of structural impurities in quartz. The Pliocene-Pleistocene Ghari Chandan Formation consists of lacustrine-fluvio-deltaic deposits exposed in the Attock-Cherat Range. Three beds of bentonite deposits occur in the upper part of the formation. An average thickness of each layer ranges from 0.4 to 1 m with a total strike length of ~5 Km. Montmorillonite and saponite clay minerals with admixtures of quartz, feldspar, muscovite, biotite, and hornblende were identified in these samples. Compositionally these beds are similar and comprised of dioctahedral smectite. The differential thermal analyses of bentonite reveals high thermal stability of the deposits. Detailed mineralogical and geochemical investigations suggest that the Garhi Chandan deposit is a mixture of calcic and sodic bentonite derived from andesitic and trachyandesitic source rock. Heavy metal concentration reduces the overall adsorbing capacity of the deposit.  相似文献
