The concentrations of Ti, Zr and Hf have been determined, by a stable isotope dilution method, in 27 chondrites, seven achondrites and standard rock samples BCR-1 and W-1.Among all chondrites investigated, enstatite chondrite Abee is lowest in Ti atomic ratio compared with Si while all carbonaceous chondrites show higher values. The Zr contents are higher in CII and CIII chondrites, relative to the other groups of chondrites. There is a clustering of Ti and Zr within each group. The ZrHf ratios in CII, CIII. E and H chondrites are essentially the same, while that in the CI chondrite is lower and in L, LL and unequilibrated chondrites are higher. The concentrations of Ti, Zr, Hf and TiZr, ZrHf ratios in achondrites are variable, even among members of the same group.Based on these results, condensation models for these elements are discussed. The variable results for Ti, Zr and Hf in achondrites may be due to the reheating recrystallization and metamorphic processes.‘Cosmic atomic abundances’ of Ti, Zr and Hf are calculated as 2470, 11.2 and 0.185. respectively for Si = 106 atoms.  相似文献

A stable isotope dilution technique using solid source mass spectrometry has been used to determine the elemental abundance of Te in 25 chondrites, 3 achondrites, 1 tektite, and 12 standard rocks. Mean values for the C1, C2, and CV3 meteorites are 2.34, 1.48, and 1.03 ppm, respectively; or atomic abundances for Te (normalized to Si = 106 atoms) of 4.84, 2.49, and 1.46. The atomic abundance obtained for the C1 chondrite Orgueil is significantly lower than the accepted value of 6.42. As a consequence we recommend that the ‘cosmic’ abundance of Te and Xe should be re-examined. The depletion ratio for Te in ordinary chondrites of 0.10, is about the same as that for Zn. Elemental abundances of Te in 12 standard rocks are in the ppb range.  相似文献

Structural observations and concentrations of Ni, Ga, Ge and Ir allow the classification of 57 iron meteorites in addition to those described in the previous papers in this series; the number of classified independent iron meteorites is now 535. INAA for an additional six elements indicates that five previously studied irons having very high GeGa ratios are compositionally closely related and can be gathered together as group IIF. A previously unstudied iron, Dehesa, has the highest GeGa ratio known in an iron meteorite, a ratio 18 × higher than that in CI chondrites. Although such high GeGa ratios are found in the metal grains of oxidized unequilibrated chondrites, their preservation during core formation requires disequilibrium melting or significant compositional and temperature effects on metal/silicate distribution constants and/or activity coefficients. In terms of GeGa ratios and various other properties group IIF shows genetic links to the Eagle Station pallasites and COCV chondrites. Klamath Falls is a new high-Ni, low-Ir member of group IIIF that extends the concentration ranges in this group and makes these comparable to the ranges in large igneous groups such as IIIAB. Groups IAB and IIICD have been revised to extend the lower Ni boundary of group IIICD down to 62 mg/g. The iron having by far the highest known Ni concentration (585 mg/g), Oktibbeha County, is a member of group IAB and extends the concentration ranges of all elements in this nonmagmatic group. Morasko, a IAB iron associated with a crater field in Poland, is paired with the Seeläsgen iron discovered 100 km away. All explosion craters from which meteorites have been recovered were produced by IAB and IIIAB irons.  相似文献

Abundances of cosmic ray-produced noble gases and 26Al, including some new measurements, have been compiled for some 23 stone meteorites with exposure ages of < 3 × 106 yr. Concentrations of cosmogenic He, Ne, and Ar in these meteorites have been corrected for differences in target element abundances by normalization to L-chondrite chemistry. Combined noble gas measurements in depth samples of the Keyes and St. Séverin chondrites are utilized to derive equations for normalizing the production rates of cosmogenic 3He, 21Ne, and 38Ar in chondrites to an adopted ‘average’ shielding: 22Ne21Ne = 1.114. The measured unsaturated 26Al concentrations and the calculated equilibrium 26Al for these meteorites are combined to estimate exposure ages. These exposure ages are statistically compared with chemistry- and shielding-corrected concentrations of cosmogenic He, Ne, and Ar to derive absolute production rates for these nuclides. For L-chondrites, at ‘average’ shielding, these production rates (in 10?8 cm3/g 106 yr) are: 3He = 2.45,21Ne = 0.47, and 38Ar = 0.069, which are ~ 25% higher than production rates used in the past. From these production rates and relative chemical correction factors, production rates for other classes of stone meteorites are derived.  相似文献

The black inclusion from the Krymka LL3 chondrite previously found to contain ‘mysterite’ by Lewiset al. (1979) belongs to a hitherto unknown class of carbonaceous chondrites. Its olivine and pyroxene compositions. Fo 97–99 and En 96, respectively, are characteristic of carbonaceous chondrites and its plagioclase composition. An 100, is characteristic of C3's. It contains a peculiar group of Co-, Cr-rich metal grains whose compositions are similar, but not identical, to those in C2 chondrites and which also bear some similarities to those in Renazzo. Its weight ratios of total FeSiO2 and solSiO2MgO are 0.74 and 1.43, respectively, and its atomic ratio of SiAl is 10.7, exactly the same as in carbonaceous chondrites. Its bulk chemical composition is very close to that of the Murchison C2 chondrite. The association of mysterite with a special type of carbonaceous chondrite material suggests that mysterite formed by low-temperature condensation in a different region of the nebula from other carbonaceous chondrites.  相似文献

The extinct radionuclide 107Pd decays to 107Ag (half-life of 6.5 Ma) and is an early solar system chronometer with outstanding potential to study volatile depletion in the early solar system. Here, a comprehensive Ag isotope study of carbonaceous and ordinary chondrites is presented. Carbonaceous chondrites show limited variations (ε107Ag = −2.1 to +0.8) in Ag isotopic composition that correlate with the Pd/Ag ratios. Assuming a strictly radiogenic origin of these variations, a new initial 107Pd/108Pd of 5.9 (±2.2) × 10−5 for the solar system can be deduced. Comparing the Pd-Ag and Mn-Cr data for carbonaceous chondrites suggests that Mn-Cr and Pd-Ag fractionation took place close to the time of calcium-aluminium-rich inclusion (CAI) and chondrule formation ∼4568 Ma ago. Using the new value for the initial 107Pd abundance, the revised ages for the iron-rich meteorites Gibeon (IVA, 8.5 +3.2/−4.6 Ma), Grant (IIIAB, 13.0 +3.5/−4.9 Ma) and Canyon Diablo (IA, 19.5 +24.1/−10.4 Ma) are consistent with cooling rates and the closure temperature of the Pd-Ag system. In contrast to carbonaceous chondrites, ordinary chondrites show large stable isotope fractionation of order of 1 permil for 107Ag/109Ag. This indicates that different mechanisms of volatile depletion were active in carbonaceous and ordinary chondrites. Nebular processes and accretion, as experienced by carbonaceous chondrites, did not led to significant Ag isotope fractionation, while the significant Ag isotope variations in ordinary chondrites are most likely inflicted by open system parent body metamorphism.  相似文献

Acid-resistant residues were prepared by HCl-HF demineralization of three H-type ordinary chondrites: Brownfield 1937 (H3), Dimmitt (H3,4), and Estacado (H6). These residues were found to contain a large proportion of the planetary-type trapped Ar, Kr, and Xe in the meteorites. The similarity of these acid residues to those from carbonaceous chondrites and LL-type ordinary chondrites suggests that the same phase carries the trapped noble gases in all these diverse meteorite types. Because the H group represents a large fraction of all meteorites, this result indicates that the gas-rich carrier phase is as universal as the trapped noble-gas component itself. When treated with an oxidizing etchant, the acid residues lost almost all their complement of noble gases. In addition, the Xe in at least one oxidized residue, from Dimmitt, displayed isotopic anomalies of the type known as CCFX or DME-Xe, which is characterized by simultaneous excesses of both the lightest and heaviest isotopes. The anomaly in the Dimmitt sample differs from that observed in carbonaceous-chondrite samples, however, in the relative proportions of the light- and heavy-isotope excesses. The results of this study do not show an inverse correlation between trapped 20Ne36Ar and trapped 36Ar abundance, as has been reported for acid-resistant residues from LL-chondrites. The results of this work therefore fail to support the hypothesis that meteoritic trapped noble gas abundances were established at the time of condensation.  相似文献

Analyses of meteorites for B abundances have shown that many chondrites are contaminated with terrestrial B, producing erroneously high meteoritic abundances of this element. Boron concentrations in freshly prepared interior samples are significantly lower than they are in samples with unknown or unspecified terrestrial histories. An estimate of the cosmic abundance based upon the analyses of 8 interior samples of 2 carbonaceous chondrites and 1 interior sample of each of 8 ordinary chondrites is a factor of 6.7 less than the previous low estimate. Our revised value, 3.0 B/1010H, is in excellent agreement with estimates based on observations of the solar photosphere. There is no longer a need to consider processes that enrich B in carbonaceous chondrites or deplete it in the sun. Relative meteoritic abundances of Li, Be and B are now in general agreement with models of nucleosynthesis of these light elements by galactic cosmic ray induced spallation.  相似文献

A neutron activation analysis technique was used to determine Au, Re, Co, Mo, As, Sb, Ga, Se, Te, Hg, Zn, Bi and Tl in 11 carbonaceous chondrites, 12 unequilibrated ordinary chondrites (UOC), and 4 equilibrated ordinary chondrites. The first 6 elements are ‘undepleted’, the next 3 ‘normally-depleted’ and the last 4 ‘strongly-depleted’. Except for Hg, ‘depleted-element’ abundances in carbonaceous chondrites lead to mean relative ratios of C1:C2:C3 = 1.00:0.53:0.29, i.e. those predicted by a two-component (mixing of high-temperature and low-temperature fractions) model. The last 4 nominally ‘undepleted’ elements are somewhat depleted in ordinary chondrites, As and Sb showing partial depletion in C3 and the latter in C2 chondrites as well. This requires a modification of the two-component model to indicate that deposition of elements during condensation of high temperature material was not an all-or-nothing process.Apart from Bi and Tl, the elements studied have similar abundances in unequilibrated and equilibrated ordinary chondrites and only the former are unquestionably correlated with the degree of disequilibrium in silicate minerals. Only some ‘strongly-depleted’ elements exhibit at least one of the following—proportional depletion in UOC, progressive depletion in petrographic grades 3–6 ordinary chondrites and enrichment in the gas-containing dark portion of gas-rich, light-dark meteorites—indicating that such depletion does not ensure that an element will exhibit these trends. Partly or completely siderophile As, Au, Co, Ga, Mo, Re and Sb vary with chemical type in the same manner in both unequilibrated and equilibrated ordinary chondrites and doubtless reflect a process involving fractionation of metallic iron.  相似文献

Noble gases were measured in bulk samples of the C3V chondrites Grosnaja, Vigarano, and Leoville, and in HF,HCl-insoluble residues before and after etching with HNO3. The residues were characterized by INAA and SEM. Gas components were determined, directly or by subtraction, for the following fractions: HF,HCl-solubles (?98% of the meteorite), ‘sphase Q’, a poorly characterized trace mineral that is insoluble in HCl-HF but soluble in HNO3, and an insoluble residue, consisting of ferrichromite, carbonaceous matter, and spinel.Bulk meteorites show some correlation of the noble-gas pattern with McSween's subclasses: two ‘oxidized’ C3V's—Allende (LEWIS et al, 1975) and Grosnaja— have lower Ar/Xe but higher Ne/Xe ratios than the ‘reduced’ C3V's—Vigarano and Leoville—which are transitional to LL3's and C3O chondrites in both respects. An HCl-soluble mineral of high Ar/Xr ratio seems to be responsible. In other respects, the 3 C3V's of this study resemble Allende, with only moderate differences. Phase Q contains most of the Ar, Kr, Xe, but only small amounts of Ne; the etched residues contain planetary Ne (Ne20Ne22 ? 8.5) and the controversial CCFXe component, enriched in the heavy Xe isotopes (Xe136Xe132 ? 0.4–0.5). The CCFXe is accompanied by an ‘L-Xe’ component that is enriched in the light Xe isotopes. The proportion of the two is virtually constant in C3V's. as in all other C-chondrites. in contrast to the ~ 2-fold variation in ordinary chondrites.C3V's have systematically higher Xe136Xe132 ratios, and hence higher ratios of CCFXe to planetary Xe, than do other chondrite classes. This may reflect some peculiarity in their formation conditions, favoring uptake of CCFXe.  相似文献

Noble gas data are reported for 12 E-chondrites. Combined with literature data, they show that K-Ar ages are >4 Æ for 14 out of 18 meteorites, yet U, Th-He ages are often shorter, perhaps due to late, mild reheating. Cosmic-ray exposure ages differ systematically between types 4 and 6, with E4's mostly below 16 Myr and E6's above 30 Myr. This may mean that the E-chondrite parent body contains predominantly a single petrologic type on the (~ 1 km) scale of individual impacts, in contrast to the more thoroughly mixed parent bodies of the ordinary chondrites. The heavy noble gases consist of at least two primordial components: the usual planetary component (36Ar132Xe ~ 80) and a less fractionated, ‘subsolar’ component (2700 ≤ 36Ar132Xe ≤ 3800). The latter is found in highest concentration in the E4 chondrite South Oman (36Ar = 760 × 10?8cc/g, 36Ar132Xe = 2700). The isotopic compositions of both components are similar to typical planetary values, indicating that some factor other than mass controlled the noble gas elemental ratios. The heavy Xe isotopes occasionally show some of the lowest 134Xe132Xe and 136Xe132Xe ratios measured in bulk chondrites, suggestive of nearly fission-free Xe (e.g. 136Xe132Xe = 0.3095 ± 0.0020). Amounts of planetary gas in E4 E6 chondrites fall in the range for ordinary chondrites of types 4–6, but, in contrast to the ordinary chondrites. fail to correlate with petrologic type or volatile trace element contents. Another unusual feature of E-chondrites is that primordial Ne is present even in most 4's and 5's (20Nep ~ 1 to 7 × 10?8cc/g). with an isotopic composition consistent with planetary Ne.Analyses of mineral separates show that the planetary gases are concentrated in an HF- and HCl-insoluble mineral similar to phase Q, the poorly characterized, HNO3-soluble carrier of primordial gases in carbonaceous and ordinary chondrites. The subsolar gases, on the other hand, are located in an HCl- and HNO3-resistant phase, possibly enstatite or a minor phase included in enstatite. Much of the 129Xer (50% for E4's, > 70% for E6's) is in HCl-resistant but HF-soluble sites, suggestive of a silicate.A similar subsolar component may be responsible for the high 36Ar132Xe ratios of some C3's, unequilibrated ordinary chondrites, and the unique aubrite Shallowater. The planet Venus also has a high ArKr ratio, well above the planetary range, and hence may have acquired its noble gases from an E-chondrite-like material, similar to South Oman.  相似文献

12 carbonaceous chondrites, amongst them representatives of nearly all known petrologic types were analyzed for twenty trace elements by spark source mass spectrography combined with the isotope dilution method. Data on different element groups (refractory, moderately volatile and volatile) show that the distribution of the trace elements in the carbonaceous chondrites, with the exception of Renazzo, can be well explained by Anders' two-component model. This is also valid for the highly metamorphosed CV5 chondrite Karoonda.Furthermore, it is observed that the ZrHf-ratios in the carbonaceous chondrites increase with increasing petrologic type which is interpreted as the result of mixing two components with different ZrHf-ratios  相似文献

Bismuth has been determined by alpha counting of the 210Po daughter activity of the 210Bi formed by thermal neutron activation. Results are presented for thirty chondrites, six achondrites, eight separated meteoritic phases, and six U.S. Geological Survey standard rocks. There is no resolvable difference in Bi abundances among the different groups of ordinary chondrites. Bismuth concentration decreases with increasing petrologic grade among the ordinary chondrites. The enstatite chondrites are separable into two groups on the basis of Bi data.  相似文献

The 182Hf-182W isotopic systematics of Ca-Al-rich inclusions (CAIs), metal-rich chondrites, and iron meteorites were investigated to constrain the relative timing of accretion of their parent asteroids. A regression of the Hf-W data for two bulk CAIs, various fragments of a single CAI, and carbonaceous chondrites constrains the 182Hf/180Hf and εW at the time of CAI formation to (1.07 ± 0.10) × 10−4 and −3.47 ± 0.20, respectively. All magmatic iron meteorites examined here have initial εW values that are similar to or slightly lower than the initial value of CAIs. These low εW values may in part reflect 182W-burnout caused by the prolonged cosmic ray exposure of iron meteorites, but this effect is estimated to be less than ∼0.3 ε units for an exposure age of 600 Ma. The W isotope data, after correction for cosmic ray induced effects, indicate that core formation in the parent asteroids of the magmatic iron meteorites occurred less than ∼1.5 Myr after formation of CAIs. The nonmagmatic IAB-IIICD irons and the metal-rich CB chondrites have more radiogenic W isotope compositions, indicating formation several Myr after the oldest metal cores had segregated in some asteroids.Chondrule formation ∼2-5 Myr after CAIs, as constrained by published Pb-Pb and Al-Mg ages, postdates core formation in planetesimals, and indicates that chondrites do not represent the precursor material from which asteroids accreted and then differentiated. Chondrites instead derive from asteroids that accreted late, either farther from the Sun than the parent bodies of magmatic iron meteorites or by reaccretion of debris produced during collisional disruption of older asteroids. Alternatively, chondrites may represent material from the outermost layers of differentiated asteroids. The early thermal and chemical evolution of asteroids appears to be controlled by the decay of 26Al, which was sufficiently abundant (initial 26Al/27Al >1.4 × 10−5) to rapidly melt early-formed planetesimals but could not raise the temperatures in the late-formed chondrite parent asteroids high enough to cause differentiation. The preservation of the primitive appearance of chondrites thus at least partially reflects their late formation rather than their early and primitive origin.  相似文献

We present new data from a neutron activation analysis of four enstatite chondrites including the taxonomically important St. Sauveur, and discuss the classification of enstatite chondrites. The enstatite chondrites can be divided into two compositionally distinct sets; in one set abundances of nonrefractory siderophiles and moderately volatile chalcophiles and alkalis are 1.5–2.0× higher than in the other. A well-resolved compositional hiatus separates these two sets. The differences in composition are as great as those between the groups of ordinary chondrites, and therefore it appears best to treat these sets as separate groups. By analogy with the symbols used for ordinary chondrites we propose to designate the high-Fe, high siderophile group EH and the low-Fe, low-siderophile group EL. Known members of the EH group belong to petrologic types 4 and 5, whereas all EL members are petrologic type 6. Within the EH group no correlation is observed between petrologic type and abundance of nonrefractory siderophiles or moderately volatiles or alkalis. Two physical properties show only modest overlap between the EH and EL groups. Cosmic-ray ages for EH chondrites are 0.5–7 Ma, while those for EL chondrites are 4–18 Ma. Relative to Bjurböle, I-Xe formation intervals are ?1.3 ± 0.6 Ma for EH chondrites and 2.9 ± 0.5 Ma for EL chondrites. The weight of the chemical and physical evidence indicates that the EH and EL groups formed separate bodies at similar distances from the Sun.The available evidence for Shallowater and Happy Canyon, two strongly recrystallized silicate-rich meteorites containing > 40 mg/g Fe-Ni, indicates that the former is an enstatite-clan chondrite altered by loss of sulfide- and plagioclase-rich melts, whereas the latter is intermediate in composition between EL chondrites and the chondritic silicates in the Pine River IAB-anomalous meteorite.  相似文献

High-precision Ni isotopic variations are reported for the metal phase of equilibrated and unequilibrated ordinary chondrites, carbonaceous chondrites, iron meteorites, mesosiderites, and pallasites. We also report new Zn and Cu isotopic data for some of these samples and combine them with literature Fe, Cu, and Zn isotope data to constrain the fractionation history of metals during nebular (vapor/solid) and planetary (metal/sulfide/silicate) phase changes. The observed variations of the 62Ni/58Ni, 61Ni/58Ni, and 60Ni/58Ni ratios vary linearly with mass difference and define isotope fractionation lines in common with terrestrial samples. This implies that Ni was derived from a single homogeneous reservoir. While no 60Ni anomaly is detected within the analytical uncertainties, Ni isotopic fractionation up to 0.45‰ per mass-difference unit is observed. The isotope compositions of Ni and Zn in chondrites are positively correlated. We suggest that, in ordinary chondrites, exchange between solid phases, in particular metal and silicates, and vapor followed by mineral sorting during accretion are the main processes controlling these isotopic variations. The positive correlation between Ni and Zn isotope compositions contrasts with a negative correlation between Ni (and Zn) and Cu isotope compositions, which, when taken together, do not favor a simple kinetic interpretation. The observed transition element similarities between different groups of chondrites and iron meteorites are consistent with the genetic relationships inferred from oxygen isotopes (IIIA/pallasites and IVA/L chondrites). Copper is an exception, which we suggest may be related to separate processing of sulfides either in the vapor or during core formation.  相似文献

Eleven impact melt and 6 basement rock samples from 4 craters were analyzed by neutron activation for Au, Co, Cr, Fe, Ge, Ir, Ni, Os, Pd, Re and Se. Wanapitei Lake, Ontario: the impact melts show uniform enrichments corresponding to 1–2% C1-chondrite material. Interelement ratios (CoCr, NiCr, NiIr) suggest that the impacting body was a Cl-, C2-, or LL-chondrite. Nicholson Lake, North West Territory: Ni, Cr and Co are distinctly more enriched than Ir and Au which tentatively suggests an olivine-rich achondrite (nakhlite or ureilite). Gow Lake, Saskatchewan and Mistastin, Labrador: small enrichments in Ir and Ni; both the low IrNi ratios and low Cr content suggest iron meteorites, but the signals are too weak for conclusive identification.A tentative comparison of meteoritic signatures at 10 large, ≥4km craters and their presumed celestial counterparts (13 Apollo and Amor asteroids) shows more irons and achondrites among known projectile types, and a preponderance of S-type objects, having no known meteoritic equivalent, among asteroids. It is not yet clear that these differences are significant, in view of the tentative nature of the crater identifications (achondrites in particular), and the limited statistics.  相似文献

Measurements of oxygen and rare gas isotopes in a carbonaceous xenolithic inclusion in the Plainview H5 chondrite indicate that the xenolith and Plainview host are of two distinct meteorite types, and that no isotopic exchange has taken place between the two materials since their juxtaposition. The oxygen isotope analysis of the xenolith yields δ-18O value of 6.5 ± 0.1 % relative to SMOW, a value similar to that of carbonaceous chondrites (C2). Rare gas contents of the xenolith are also similar to those of carbonaceous chondrites. The radiation ages of the xenolith (2.9 ± 0.4 Myr) and the host (2.8 ± 0.4 Myr) are identical.Analyses of the rare gases in a sample of the host material adjacent to the xenolith show that Plainview is gas-rich, i.e., it contains large amounts (52,300 ± 10?8 cm3 STP/g 4He) of solar-type trapped gases. We speculate that carbonaceous chondritic material may be more prevalent in the asteroid belt than previously suspected.  相似文献

We report on the abundances of Ru isotopes in (1) iron meteorites, (2) stony-iron meteorites (pallasites), (3) ordinary and carbonaceous chondrites, and (4) in refractory inclusions from the carbonaceous meteorite Allende. We have developed improved Multiple-Collector, Negative-ion Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometric (MC-NTIMS) techniques for Ru, with high ionization efficiency of 4% and with chemical separation techniques for Ru, which reduce mass interferences to the ppm level, so that no mass interference corrections needed to be applied. Our data were normalized to 99Ru/101Ru to correct for mass-dependent fractionation. We find no Ru isotopic effects in the ordinary chondrites and group IAB iron meteorites we have measured. There are significant effects (deficits) in the pure s-process nuclide 100Ru, in the Allende whole-rock and in refractory inclusions of up to 1.7 parts in 10,000 (εu). There are also endemic deficits in 100Ru in iron meteorites and in pallasites of up to 1.1 εu. The Ru data suggest a wide spread and large scale heterogeneity in p-, s-, and r-process components resulting in a deficit in s-process nuclides or enhancements in both p- and r-process nuclides, in refractory siderophiles condensing in the early solar nebula. In contrast, the data on bulk Murchison suggest an excess in 100Ru and in 104Ru, which are distinct from the rest of the measured patterns. Our results establish the presence of significant isotopic heterogeneity for Ru in the early solar nebula. The observation of endemic Ru effects in planetary differentiates, such as iron meteorites and pallasites, must reflect the siderophile nature of Ru and the preservation in condensing FeNi metal of refractory metal condensate grains formed in the early solar nebula. Once incorporated in the metal phase, the refractory siderophiles remained in the metal phase through the melting and differentiation of planetesimals to form FeNi cores and silicate mantles and crusts.  相似文献
