Hydrographic and current measurements obtained during the Norwegian Antarctic Research Expedition 1978/79 to the southern Weddell Sea are presented. Cold, dense Ice Shelf Water circulating under the floating ice shelves is observed to leave the shelf as a concentrated bottom flow. From moored current metres this discharge is estimated at 0.7 106 m3/s at -2.0°C (one year average) and with no appreciable seasonal variation. This contribution to the Weddell Sea Bottom Water is clearly identified through extreme temperature gradients at our deepest stations (below 2500 m). The core of Weddell Deep Water shows a considerable (T ∼ 0.5°C) warming up since 1977, presumably due to the lack of polynya activity in the intervening period. Measurements in the coastal current at the ice shelf (70°S, 2°W) show step structures which are probably due to cooling and melting at the vertical ice barrier. Slight supercooling due to circulation under the ice shelf is also seen. The net effect of the ice shelf boundary seems to be a deep reaching cooling and freshening of the coastal current providing the low salinity, freezing point Eastern Shelf Water. This process is considered a preconditioning which enhances production of the saline Western Shelf Water which in turn is transformed to Ice Shelf Water.  相似文献

CTD observations from the southern Weddell Sea in 1977 show that Ice Shelf Water originating under the floating Filchner Ice Shelf overflows at the sill of the Filchner Depression and can be identified on the continental slope at more than 2000m depth. Intrusions of Weddell Deep Water upon the shelf are especially noticeable in the region of dense shelf water outflow and are possibly driven by the outflow. Anomalous low core temperature of Weddell Deep Water is probably related to winter convection in the Weddell Polynya. Anomalous CTD stations at the periphery of the 1976 winter polynya region indicate that deep convection phenomena, as reported by Gordon (1978), are perhaps quite common. The observations indicate that double diffusive convection is important for vertical heat transport in the central Weddell Sea.  相似文献

Tidal motion is the source of short-term vertical motion that an ice shelf experiences, and hence has a significant impact on ice shelves. During the 2003/2004 Austral summer season, five days of GPS measurements were carried out on the front of the Amery Ice Shelf (AIS), East Antarctica, by the 20th Chinese National Antarctica Research Expedition (CHINARE). The GPS data was processed using GAMIT/GLOBK software with 2-hour static data segment and the vertical precision is less than 0.18 m. To verify our results for the vertical component, we compare the ice shelf GPS tidal signal with a tidal result derived from tide gauge measurements at China's Zhongshan Station on Antarctica. Comparison of the GPS results with the tide gauge were in good agreement in amplitude at the few cm level, which indicates that the tide under the front of Amery Ice Shelf is irregular semidiurnal tide, the maximal tidal differences is approximately 2 m. GPS data can be used to validate the ocean tide model around the Antarctic area and such studies are important to improve our knowledge of the Antarctic ice shelf mass balance and dynamical models of ice sheet/ocean interaction.  相似文献

Volume, heat and salt transport by the West Spitsbergen Current   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
During the summer of 2000 (June-July) 14 CTD and ADCP transects perpendicular to the West Spitsbergen Current and along the western border of the Barents Sea were made. The measurements covered the area between 69° 43'and 80° N and 01° and 20° E. The main purpose was to follow changes in volume, heat and salt content of Atlantic Water (AW) on its way north. The strongest and most stable flow of AW was located along the continental slope where northward flowing currents exceeding 40 cm/sec were measured. A few weaker northward branches were also found to the west of the slope. South-directed currents were recorded between them and eddy-like mesoscale structures were commonly observed. Measured by vessel-mounted acoustic Doppler current profiler (VM-ADCP), the net northward transport of AW volume in the upper 136 m layer decreased from nearly 6 Sv at the southernmost transect to below 1 Sv at a latitude of 78° 50'N. Similarly, heat transport drops from about 173 TW to about 9 TW and relative salt transport (over 34.92 psu) from 980 × 103 kg/sec to 14 × 103 kg/sec. Transport in the southern direction prevails at the transect located between 79° 07'and 79° 30'N. The calculated baroclinic geostrophic transport of AW volume, heat and salt in the upper 1000 m layer behaves similarly. East-directed transport dominates at the Barents Sea boundary while westward flow prevails on the western side of the West Spitsbergen Current.  相似文献

<正> Hydrological character and Sea-current profiles structure are studied andanalyzed in sea-area of the front of Amery Ice Shelf,Prydz Bay with LADCP,CTDdata.These LADCP,CTD data were acquired during the 19th Chinese Antarctic Sci-entific Expedition.Results of this study agree with that,there exist four differentkinds of water masses in the area of the front of Amery Ice Shelf in the summer of Ant-arctica.Current distribution presents a semi-circumfluence which flows in at the eastand flows out in the west.Moreover,clockwise and anti-clockwise vortices werefound in upper layer and mid-layer in the Prydz Bay.Western areas of these anti-clockwise vortices are positions of inflows from Prydz Bay to Amery Ice Shelf.Thesource of these inflows is the coastal westward current originated in the east of PrydzBay.All these characteristics come down to the pattern of circumfluence,ice meltrate under Ice Shelf,scale of Ice Shelf water production and form of water exchangesbetween area of Ice Shelf and area of Prydz Bay.  相似文献

本文介绍了近期南极冰架-海洋相互作用的研究进展。冰架底部融化速率大于前缘崩解通量,成为南极冰盖质量损失的首要途径。冰架下的海洋按照底部融化驱动因素的不同,可以分为由高密度陆架水驱动的冷冰腔和由变性绕极深层水驱动的暖冰腔。威德尔海的菲尔希纳-龙尼冰架和罗斯海的罗斯冰架属于冷冰腔,占南极冰架总面积的2/3,却只贡献了15%的净融化;东南太平洋扇区阿蒙森海和别林斯高晋海等若干属于暖冰腔的小型冰架,虽然只占南极冰架总面积的8%,却贡献了超过一半的冰架融水。以往看做冷冰腔的东南极托滕冰架和埃默里冰架,也相继发现有变性绕极深层水进入冰腔并造成底部融化。冰架对海洋有冷却和淡化的作用。冷冰腔输出的冰架水具有海洋中最低的温度,对南极陆架水性质乃至南极底层水的形成都有影响。冰架融化加剧,可能是近期观测到的南极底层水淡化的原因。  相似文献

1990年 1 2月~ 1 991年 1月从南极普里兹湾及其毗邻南印度洋获得的微小型浮游植物样品 ,经鉴定、分析表明 :调查海区有 5门 40属 1 2 2种、变种和变型 ,其中硅藻类占 73 .0 %,甲藻类占2 0 .5 %,其它仅占 6 .5 %。表层水样微小型浮游植物平均丰度为 2 5 5 1× 1 0 4个 /m3 ,其密集区主要分布在普里兹湾内邻近陆架区的 7站和西冰架与沙克尔顿冰架之间的以北海域 ( 3、 4、 2、 3、 1站及 1站 ) ;位于普里兹湾西北部海域断面 和 1~ 5站丰度最低。网采浮游植物平均丰度为 81 2× 1 0 4 个 /m3 ,其密集区则分布在普里兹湾邻近陆架区 ( 2、 4、 5、 7、 4、 5站 )和西冰架北部海域 ( 1、 3站 ) ;低丰度位于沙克尔顿冰架东部海域 (断面 、 的测站 )。微小型浮游植物垂直分布密集区位于测区中部 ( 3、 3站 )和东部 ( 3站 ) 0~ 5 0 m水体 ,水深1 0 0 m以下至 2 0 0 m随深度的增加而丰度逐渐减少。微小型浮游植物丰度与大磷虾的丰度和营养盐 (N、P、Si)浓度成显著的负相关。  相似文献

本文利用中国第19次南极科学考察普里兹湾内埃默里冰架前缘水域观测的LADCP、 CTD资料,研究并分析了普里兹湾内埃默里冰架前缘水域水的温、盐特性和海流结构。资料显示,在冰架前缘的水域中存在着四种典型的夏季水团;流速分布显示出东进西出的特征。此外在普里兹湾内的上层和中层海洋中还存在着逆时针和顺时针方向的涡旋:逆时针涡旋西侧是普里兹湾向冰架入流的位置所在;入流的源地是普里兹湾东侧的沿岸西向流。这些特征涉及到夏季普里兹湾内的环流形式、冰架底部的消融速率和冰架水的生成规模以及冰架区域与冰架外普里兹湾内的水交换形式。  相似文献

The ERS-1 satellite, launched in 1991, has provided altimetric observations of the Greenland Ice Sheet and 80 per cent of the Antarctica Ice Sheet north of 82°S. It was placed in a geodetic (168-day repeat) orbit between April 1994 and March 1995, yielding a 1.5  km across-track spacing at latitude 70° with a higher along-track sampling of 350  m. We have analysed the waveform altimetric data from this period to compute maps with a 1/30° grid size. Data processing consists of correcting for environmental factors and editing and retracking the waveforms. A further step consists of reducing the radial orbit error through crossover analysis and correcting the slope error to second order. The high-resolution topography of both ice sheets reveals numerous details. A kilometre-scale surface roughness running at 45° from the flow direction is the dominant topographic characteristic of both continents. Antarctica also exhibits many scars due to local flow anomalies. Several physical processes can be identified: abrupt transitions from deformation to sliding and vice versa, and impressive strike-slip phenomena, inducing en echelon folds.  相似文献

本文利用前人的成果及笔者1992/1993年的南极海冰观测和收集的资料以及水文观测资料数据阐述了南极海冰的特性,特别是南极海冰过程、冰穴以及冰川冰对南极水团(南极表层水、南极底层水、南极陆架水、南极中层水以及南极冰架水)的形成和变性所起的特殊作用。 南极海冰覆盖面积的年际变化,夏季最大年份是最小年份的2倍多,冬季年间变化较小,最大仅为20%;但其季节变化非常大,冬季平均覆盖面积通常是夏季的5倍。南极海冰对大气-海洋间相互作用有重大影响,特别是深海洋区中冬季的结冰和发育造成的垂向对流、夏季的融化是形成南极表层水(含南极冬季水和南极夏季表层水),进而形成南极中层水的主要原因;南极陆架区的的海冰兴衰过程是形成南极陆架水的直接原因,它与变性南极绕极深层水混合并受到冰川冰的进一步冷却作用,成为形成南极底层水的主要水团;南极冰架底部的冷却、融化和冰架以下水体的结冰作用形成的高盐对流过程产生的南极冰架水,亦是形成南极底层水的贡献者。 冰穴是70年代以来卫星观测的重大发现。对其形成和对大气、海洋的影响作用尚不完全清楚,初步的研究成果表明,冰穴中产生的热盐对流对南极水团的形成、变性、大洋深层的翻转以及海洋-大气间的热量传输和气体交换起有非常重要的作用。  相似文献

利用2003年7-9月中国第二次北极科学考察期间,在北冰洋加拿大海盆的一个冰站上得到的温度、盐度和流速的连续剖面观测资料,对一个次表层的北冰洋涡旋进行了分析。在温度断面图中,该涡旋表现为一个核心位于60m深度、最低温度为-1.5°C的孤立冷水块,比周边水体的温度低约0.5°C。涡旋中的等密度面呈现凸透镜的结构,表明该涡旋是反气旋式的。虽然同步观测的流场中确实存在速度接近0.4ms-1的异常强流,但实测流场的结构却与一个典型的涡旋流场相去甚远。进一步分析发现,涡旋所在的次表层流场存在变化幅度与涡旋旋转速度相当的惯性频率振荡。在滤除惯性流和平均流之后,得到了轴对称的涡旋流场,涡旋的最大流速半径约为5km。对涡旋核心及其周边海域水体的温盐性质对比分析表明,该涡旋可能在楚科奇陆架上形成,然后向东北方向运动并进入了加拿大海盆。  相似文献

The Amery Ice Shelf is the largest ice shelf in East Antarctica.A new DEM was generated for this ice shelf,using kriging to interpolate the data from ICESat altimetry and the AIS-DEM.The ice thickness distribution map is conver ted from the new DEM,assuming hydrostatic equilibrium.The Amery Ice Shelf mari ne ice,up to 230 m thick,is concentrated in the northwest of the ice shelf.Th e volume of the marine ice is 2.38×10~3 km~3 and accounts for about 5.6% of t he shelf volume.  相似文献

冰川流速分析对于研究南极冰盖物质平衡、海平面上升和全球气候变化具有重要意义。以ALOS/PALSAR影像为数据源,采用SAR特征跟踪方法,结合DEM数据估算Amery冰架上游冰川流速。结果表明,Amery冰架上游主流线流速为540—720 m·a-1,冰川流速随海拔的降低逐渐减小。受基岩和两侧山体的影响,主流线流速大,越靠近两侧山体流速越小。这个结果与NASA 2000年利用SAR重复轨道干涉测量方法测定的流速接近。基于裸露岩石作为特征点的分析表明,该方法误差较小,获取的冰川流速比较可靠。  相似文献

Summary. 40Ar-39Ar incremental heating studies have been carried out on samples taken from the Tudor Gabbro, Grenville Province, Ontario. In an earlier K-Ar study, these rocks have yielded an isochron age of ∼700 Ma together with very high initial argon ratios. Age spectrum plots on whole-rock samples, in general, display a saddle-shaped character, with two of them exhibiting minima close to 700 Ma. No clear plateaus are observed for these rocks. A hornblende separate records the time ∼1110 Ma at which the stock finally cooled through the ∼590°C isotherm. The Tudor Gabbro was probably intruded into an area undergoing middle-amphibolite facies meta-morphism about 1180 Ma ago. The age spectra of two whole-rock samples together with that of their plagioclase separates, suggest that the stock cooled to ∼200–250°C at about 720 Ma. Slow cooling, averaging about 1°C Ma−1 is indicated for this section of the Grenville Province for the period 1100–700 Ma. If the age of the Tudor Gabbro's palaeomagnetic pole position is taken to be 720 Ma, the Hadrynian Track Hypothesis leads to very high polar wander rates of > 20cm a−1 for the period 820–720 Ma. If this hypothesis is rejected, the average drift rate for this period would be ∼4 cm a−1, in much better agreement with published values of ∼5 cm a−1 for the period 1400–820 Ma.  相似文献

The Antarctic climate system involves many complex interactions between the atmosphere, oceans and ice and is sensitive to variations in these components. Ice shelves represent the ice–ocean–atmosphere interface of the Antarctic continent and are therefore very important indicators of climate change in the region. The Amery Ice Shelf is the largest ice shelf in East Antarctica and has been the focus of many scientific research projects over the past 50 years. This paper presents a history of the use of spatial science techniques from basic survey equipment to satellite systems in Australian research projects based on the Amery Ice Shelf (and surrounding glaciers) since 1955. The application of these spatial data to projects based primarily in the fields of geodesy, glaciology, climatology, and oceanography has allowed the measurement and monitoring of the physical, dynamic and environmental characteristics of this large and remote region. This new information provides scientists with a better understanding of the ice shelf/ocean/atmosphere system allowing future monitoring to observe the effects of global climate change.  相似文献

南极冰架和冰川的变化是全南极动态变化的主要过程之一。利用MODIS L1B级250 m分辨率数据和Landsat陆地卫星15 m分辨率数据,针对不同尺度试验区域,分别监测2000—2016年间中山站附近地区的埃默里冰架、极时代冰川、极记录冰川和达尔克冰川的动态变化过程,并对试验区的动态变化进行分析。结果表明,埃默里冰架在近16年间一直处于向外扩展状态,前缘年扩展速率和扩展面积量较为稳定;极时代和极记录冰川不断向海洋流动,极时代冰川于2007年发生大型崩解,而极记录冰川前端的冰山在2014年发生崩解,冰山面积逐年递减,于2016年完全漂离冰川前缘;达尔克冰川则在监测年份内呈现出了交替性扩展和崩解的变化规律。  相似文献

利用中国首次北极科学考察白令海调查资料计算了白令海东部陆坡区 58- 60°N范围内海流的流幅、流速和流量 ,并获得如下结论 :(1 )白令海东陆坡区陆坡流由东南向西北变化 ,流速由东南向西北逐渐增加 ,在 58°N处 ,最大流速达到 1 0cm/s,到 60°N处 ,最大流速达到 30cm/s,是历年调查中最高的 ;流幅由东南向西北不断增宽 ,在 58°N处 ,最大流幅约 1 0 0km ,到 60°N处 ,最大流幅达到 2 1 0km ,流量由东南向西北也不断增加 ,在 58°N处 ,最大流量 5 .3Sv ,到 60°N处 ,最大流量达到 1 0 .2Sv ;(2 )陆坡流的近陆架一侧陆坡逆流的北界位置在 58°N处 ,其表层流幅宽度为 70km ,流速达到 5cm/s以上 ,在 59°N处其影响深度可以直达海底 ,,陆坡逆流的流速降低 ,流幅增宽到 1 1 0km ,60°N附近为陆坡逆流的北界 ,未观测到陆坡逆流 ;(3)陆架坡折锋强化了陆坡流。  相似文献

In the region of the Schirmacheroase (71 °S, 12°E) various geodetic and glaciological research activities have been carried out in the last decade. Several times three geodetic-glaciological traverses were undertaken to study ice velocity, accumulation and ablation, and ice surface height changes. Repeated ground surveys show a significant decrease in surface heights by about 15 cm/y for a large blue-ice area. This paper presents the first interferometrically derived ice velocity field of the inland ice close to the Schirmacheroase. The interferometric analysis of the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data is performed in combination with ground-based information. Since only ERS-1&2 tandem mission image couples are available for this region a digital elevation model (DEM) is used to remove the effect of topography. Ice velocities up to 100 m/y are proved interferometrically for this part of the inland ice.  相似文献
