Resourcesat-1 satellite offers a unique opportunity of simultaneous observations at three different spatial scales through LISS-IV, LISS-III* (improved LISS-III) and AWiFS sensors from a common platform. The sensors have enhanced capabilities in terms of spectral, spatial and radiometric resolution as compared to earlier Indian Remote sensing Satellite sensors. This paper summarizes the results of various studies such as evaluation of sensor characteristics, inter-sensor comparison studies, derivation and validation of surface reflectance measurements, quantification of improvements due to Resourcesat-1 sensors, and their use for various agricultural applications. The studies presented in this paper demonstrate that suit of sensors onboard Resourcesat-1 satellite provides better prospects for several agricultural applications like crop identification, discrimination and crop inventory for some major Indian crops, than its predecessors on IRS satellites.  相似文献

A functional form of crop spectral profile suggested by Badhwar was applied to district-wise wheat Normalised Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) values relatively normalised by Pseudo-Invariant Feature (urban and built-up) NDVI values, derived from Wide Field Sensor (WiFS) onboard Indian Remote Sensing Satellites (IRS) for 17 dates during 1999–2000 rabi season. The goodness of overall profile fitting and the three basic parameters i.e., crop emergence date (To), and crop specific parameters (a and P) was found to be statistically significant. While a corresponds to profile progressive growth rate, β corresponds to profile decay rate. A comparison with earlier studies in Punjab using NOAA-AVHRR indicated improvement in relation between peak NDVI and wheat yield. The estimated time of spectral emergence and profile-derived peak NDVI follow the observed behaviour of shortened crop pre-anthesis period with delayed sowing.  相似文献

This research, by use of RS image-simulating method, simulated apparent reflectance images at sensor level and ground-reflectance images of SPOT-HRV, CBERS-CCD Landsat-TM and NOAA14-AVHRR's corresponding bands. These images were used to analyze sensor's differences caused by spectral sensitivity and atmospheric impacts. The differences were analyzed on Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI). The results showed that the differences of sensors' spectral characteristics cause changes of their NDVI and reflectance. When multiple sensors' data are applied to digital analysis, the error should be taken into account. Atmospheric effect makes NDVI smaller, and atmospheric correction has the tendency of increasing NDVI values. The reflectance and their NDVIs of different sensors can be used to analyze the differences among sensor's features. The spectral analysis method based on RS simulated images can provide a new way to design the spectral characteristics of new sensors.  相似文献

Availability of remote sensing data from earth observation satellites has made it convenient to map and monitor land use/land cover at regional to local scales. A land cover map is very critical for a various planning activities including watershed planning. The spectral and spatial resolutions are major constraints for mapping the crop resources at microlevel. The cropping pattern zones have been mapped using the false color composite, physiography, irrigation and toposheets. The IRS LISS-III data is classified into various categories depending on spectral reflectance from crop canopy and are overlaid on cropping zones map. The re-classified resultant map provides land use/land cover information including dominant cropping systems. The canopy cover is estimated monthly considering the crop calendar for the area.  相似文献

This study compares the spectral sensitivity of remotely sensed satellite images, used for the detection of archaeological remains. This comparison was based on the relative spectral response (RSR) Filters of each sensor. Spectral signatures profiles were obtained using the GER-1500 field spectroradiometer under clear sky conditions for eight different targets. These field spectral signature curves were simulated to ALOS, ASTER, IKONOS, Landsat 7-ETM+, Landsat 4-TM, Landsat 5-TM and SPOT 5. Red and near infrared (NIR) bandwidth reflectance were re-calculated to each one of these sensors using appropriate RSR Filters. Moreover, the normalised difference vegetation index (NDVI) and simple ratio (SR) vegetation profiles were analysed in order to evaluate their sensitivity to sensors spectral filters. The results have shown that IKONOS RSR filters can better distinguish buried archaeological remains as a result of difference in healthy and stress vegetation (approximately 1–8% difference in reflectance of the red and NIR band and nearly 0.07 to the NDVI profile). In comparison, all the other sensors showed similar results and sensitivities. This difference of IKONOS sensor might be a result of its spectral characteristics (bandwidths and RSR filters) since they are different from the rest of sensors compared in this study.  相似文献

The potential usefulness of spectral properties and vegetation indices in varietal discrimination of potato genotypes was studied in the field experiment. Spectral measurements were recorded in different bands in blue (450–520 nm), green (520–590 nm), red (620–680 nm) and infrared (770–860 nm) of the electromagnetic spectrum at different stages during crop growth period. A ground based hand held multiband radiometer (Model/041) was used for the purpose. The mean per cent green reflectance value among different genotypes was lowest in genotype MS/86-89, while it was observed highest in genotype JX-216. Significant difference among these genotypes was found at all growth stages except 6 week after planting. Consequent to variation in spectral reflectance the vegetation indices like, NDVI, RVI, TVI and DVI showed significant difference among genotypes at all growth stages except at 8th week after planting. The vegetation indices are good indicators of crop growth and condition. Similarly, fresh weight, dry weight, and leaf area index were also highest in MS/86-89, followed by KUFRI Bahar and KUFRI Sutlej while in case of leaf area index it was followed by Kufri Sutlej and Kufri Bahar. JX-23 was highest in chlorophyll content and tuber yield followed by MS/86-89 and JW-160, while lowest chlorophyll content was seen in MS/89-1095 and poorest tuber yield in MS/89-60. Most of the genotypes exhibited considerable variation in their spectral response and vegetation indices thereby indicating the possibility of their discrimination through remote sensing technique.  相似文献

To understand the absolute radiometric calibration accuracy of the HJ-A CCD-1 sensors, image from these sensors were compared to nearly simultaneously image from Landsat-7 ETM+ sensors. Although the HJ-A CCD-1 sensor has almost the same wavelength of each central band and band width as Landsat-7 ETM+ sensor, there is slightly difference in spectral response function (SRF). The impacts of SRF difference effects would produce ~2 % uncertainty in predicting reflectance of HJ-A CCD-1 sensor using Landsat-7 ETM+ sensor. The reflectance observed by satellite at top-of-atmosphere generally depends on its’ geometric conditions. The results reveal that the impacts of geometrical conditions would impact on the vicarious cross-calibration accuracy, which should be removed. The performances of cross-calibration are calibrated and validated by four image pairs collected from Yellow River Delta, China, and Qingdao City, China, at four independent times. The results indicate that the HJ-A CCD-1 sensors can be cross calibrated to the Landsat-7 ETM+ sensors to within an accuracy of 3.99 % (denoted by Relative Root Mean Square Error) of each other in all bands except band 4, which has a 6.33 % difference.  相似文献

In-situ spectral reflectance characteristics of soils were studied under field conditions with Multiband Ground Truth Radiometer covering 0.45?C0.52, 0.52?C0.59, 0.62?C0.68, and 0.77?C0.86 ??m spectral bands. Twenty-two surface soil samples were studied in laboratory for their spectral reflectance characteristics using ISCO Model S.R. Spectroradiometer in visible wavelength (450?C725 nm), with 25 nm bandwidth, and in infrared wavelength (750?C1550 nm), with 50 nm bandwidth. The Bidirectional reflectance factor representative of spectral reflectance varied from 3.78 to 11.3???m in band 1, 6.09 to 15.41???m in band 2, 8.05 to 19.41???m in band 3, and 12.18 to 31.2???m in band 4. In-situ spectral reflectance in general increases with the wavelength from visible to infrared bands for all the soils. Black soils have relatively lower reflectance as compared to red soils, which is attributed to the variation in the physicochemical properties of soils. Spectral reflectance, under laboratory conditions, for all the soils increases with wavelength from visible to infrared region except at 950 nm and 1200 nm, where reflectance decreased in all soils, due to weaker water absorption bands and also at 1350 nm, due to strong water absorption at this band. The spectral reflectance of red soils were higher, in-situ as well as under laboratory conditions, as compared to black soils, which is attributed to variation in soil colour, organic matter and clay content of soils. It is observed that the spectral reflectance decrease due to moisture content in soils in all the spectral bands because of darker appearance of soils at moist conditions. Laboratory reflectance measurements serve to define the extent to which intrinsic spectral information is available from soils as a consequence of their composition.  相似文献

This is the second paper of the series on the influence of the atmospheric water vapour (WV) on IRS NIR measurements. In the first paper (Pandya et al. 2011) a simulation study was presented where through the radiative transfer calculations it was shown that the variation of 0 to 6 g/cm2 in the WV hampered the IRS NIR reflectance up to 14%. In that study splitting of IRS NIR (0.770–0.860 μm) into two bands, such as NIR1 (0.775–0.805 μm) and NIR2 (0.845–0.875 μm) was also proposed, which facilitated a considerable improvement in NIR reflectance as well as in NDVI. Objective of the present paper is to validate the findings of simulation study with the use of EO1-Hyperion data. An improvement of the order of 7% in the top-of-atmosphere reflectance over vegetation target was obtained from the satellite data analysis, which is in good agreement to that of simulation results (3.7 to 7.9%) for the continental WV conditions of 1 to 3 g/cm2. This is also true for NDVI values, which illustrated a good agreement between the satellite observations (2.5%) and simulation results (2 to 4.6%) for the magnitude of improvement. Findings of the present study are preliminary in the nature but it provides a basis for enhanced NIR observations for future IRS sensors.  相似文献

The results emerged out of the studies on spectral reflectance under normal and nitrogen and phosphorus stress condition in soybean (Glycine max L.) conducted at Marathwada Agricultural University experimental farm, Parbhani duringkharif 2004–05 showed that crop growth and bio-physiological parameters viz., Height, chlorophyll, leaf area index and total biomass influenced by pest and disease and nutrient stress resulted in detectable spectral reflectance variation. Poor crop growth, reduced canopy cover, chlorophyll content and biomass production are the effects observed in nutrient deficient crops. These above changes in soybean crop were related to spectral indices (RVI and NDVI) that are resulted in discrimination of stressed and normal (non-stressed) soybean crop.  相似文献

Present study was designed to determine the effect of various growing environments on sucking pest population dynamics in cotton and to work out their relation with spectral indices. Crop spectral reflectance in four IRS bands was measured with ground truth radiometer during 1000–1200 h in all the treatment combinations. Incidence of sucking pest in cotton was found out to be highly influenced by growing environments. The leafhopper and whitefly population was highest in 15 May sown cotton crop and was lowest in 15 April sown crop. Cultivar HS-6 was highly affected by both the sucking pest than the other cultivar H-1226. The spectral indices (SR, NDVI and TVI) were highest in 15 April sown crop at all the phenophases and were lowest in 15 May sown crop. The cultivar H-1226 showed higher values of spectral indices as compared to HS-6. The relationship of pests’ population with various spectral indices was established. Multiple regression models based on spectral indices can be used for prediction of sucking pest population more than 69 and 74 % accuracy in leafhopper and whitefly, respectively in cotton crop.  相似文献

High spectral resolution spectroscopy enables to have detailed information on chemical and morphological status of crop. An attempt of using space platform for detecting red edge shift during different growth stages of wheat crop is reported. Study was conducted during rabi 1996–97 season using Modular Opto-Electronic Scanner MOS-B Imaging data onboard IRS-P3 satellite. Inverted Gaussian model was fitted for satellite derived reflectances between 650 and 870 nm to derive inflection wavelength and its subsequent change with crop stages i.e. red shift. Red shift of 10 nm observed from crown root initiation stage (703.8 nm) to peak vegetative stage (714.2 nm). A comparative study on temporal behaviour of vegetative indices like NDVI and ARVI with Red edge showed that latter is more atmospherically stable parameter. It is concluded that red edge shift which hitherto has been observed from ground and airborne sensors, can also be detected from space.  相似文献

The current development of satellite technology particularly in the sensors like POLDER and MISR, has emphasized more on directional reflectance measurements (i.e. spectral reflectance of the target measured from different view zenith and azimuth angles) of the earth surface features mainly the vegetation for retrieval of biophysical parameters at regional scale using radiative transfer models. This approach being physical process based and uses directional reflectance measurement has been found to better and more reliable compared to the conventional statistical approach used till date and takes care of anisotropic nature (i.e. reflectance from the target is different if measured from different view angles) of the target. Keeping this in view a field experiment was conducted in mustard crop to evaluate the radiative transfer model for biophysical parameter retrieval through its inversion with the objectives set as (i) to relate canopy biophysical parameters and geometry to its bidirectional reflectance, (ii) to evaluate a canopy reflectance model to best represent the radiative transfer within the canopy for its inversion and (iii) to retrieve crop biophysical parameters through inversion of the model. Two varieties of the mustard crop (Brassica juncea L) were grown with two nitrogen treatments. The bidirectional reflectance data obtained at 5 nm interval for a range of 400–1100 nm were integrated to IRS LISS–II sensor’s four band values using Newton Cotes Integration technique. Biophysical parameters like leaf area index, leaf chlorophyll content, leaf length, plant height and average leaf inclination angle, biomass etc were estimated synchronizing with the bi-directional reflectance measurements. Radiative transfer model PROSAIL model was validated and its inversion was done to retrieve LAI and ALA. Look Up Table (LUT) of Bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF) was prepared simulating through PROSAIL model varying only LAI (0.2 interval from 1.2 to 5.4 ) and ALA (5° interval from 40° to 55°) parameters and inversion was done using a merit function and numerical optimization technique given by Press et al. (1986). The derived LAI and ALA values from inversion were well matched with observed one with RMSE 0.521 and 5.57, respectively.  相似文献

Motivated by the increasingly availability and importance of hyperspectral remote sensing data, this study aims to determine whether current generation narrowband hyperspectral remote sensing data could be used to estimate vegetation Leaf Area Index (LAI) accurately than the traditional broadband multispectral data. A comparative study has been carried out to evaluate the performance of the narrowband Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDV1) derived from Hyperion hyperspectral sensor with that of derived from IRS LISS-III for the estimation of LAI of some major agricultural crops (e.g. cotton, sugarcane and rice) in part of Guntur district, India. It has been found that the narrowband NDVI derived from Hyperion has shown better results over its counterpart derived from broadband LISS-III. Linear regression models have been used which with selected subsets of individual Hyperion bands performed better to predict LAI than those based on the broadband datasets, although the potential to overfit models using the large number of available Hyperion bands is a concern for further research.  相似文献

Mapping a specific crop using single date multi-spectral imagery remains a challenging task because vegetation spectral responses are considerably similar. The use of multi-temporal images helps to discriminate specific crops as the classifier can make use of the uniqueness in the temporal evolution of the spectral responses of the different vegetated classes. However, one major concern in multi-temporal studies is the selection of optimum dates for the discrimination of crops as the use of all available temporal dates can be counterproductive. In this study this concern was addressed by selecting the best 2, 3, 4… combinations dates. This was done by conducting a separability analysis between the spectral response of the class of interest (here, sugarcane-ratoon) and non-interest classes. For this analysis, we used time series LISS-III and AWiFS sensors data that were classified using Possibilistic c-Means (PCM). This fuzzy classifier can extract single class sub-pixel information. The end result of this study was the detection of best (optimum) temporal dates for discriminating a specific crop, sugarcane-ratoon. An accuracy of 92.8 % was achieved for extracting ratoon crop using AWiFS data whereas the optimum temporal LISS-III data provided a least entropy of 0.437. Such information can be used by agricultural department in selecting an optimum number of strategically placed temporal images in the crop growing season for discriminating the specific crop accurately.  相似文献

The best and commonly used ground-based sensor to monitor crop growth, ASD FieldSpecPro Spectroradiometer (Analytical Spectral Devices, Boulder, CO, USA) is a passive sensor, which can be used under adequate light condition. However, now-a-days active sensors such as GreenSeeker? (GS) handheld crop response (Trimble Agriculture division, USA) are used for monitoring crop growth and are flexible in terms of timeliness and illumination conditions besides being cheaper than the ASD. Before its wide use, the suitability and accuracy of GS should be assessed by comparing the NDVI measured by this instrument with that by ASD, under diverse wheat growing conditions of India. Keeping this in view, the present experiment was undertaken with the following objectives: (1) to find out the temporal variation of NDVI measured both by ASD and GS treatments, (2) to find out relationship between the NDVI measured through ASD and GS and, (3) to evaluate the suitability of GS for NDVI measurements. It was observed that the numerical value of NDVI as measured by GS was always significantly (P < 0.05) lower than that measured by ASD for all the experiments under study. The NDVI-ASD and NDVI-GS were significantly positively correlated (P < 0.01) with the correlation coefficients being +0.94, +0.88 and +0.87 for irrigation and nitrogen experiment, irrigation and cultivars experiment, and tillage, residue and nitrogen experiments, respectively. Further, the regression equation developed between the NDVI-ASD and NDVI-GS: [NDVI-GS = 1.070 × (NDVI-ASD ? 0.292] can be successfully used to compute the NDVI of ASD from that computed by GS.  相似文献

This paper reports a study on multi-temporal polarized response of wheat crop from spaceborne ADEOS-POLDER sensor over a homogeneous wheat region of Punjab, India. Both the polarized as well as total reflectance of wheat were observed at different scattering angles for two spectral bands i.e. 670 nm and 865 nm during crop growth from November to April in rabi 1996-97 season. Results show that sun-target-viewing geometry plays an important role in polarization property. The top of atmosphere (TOA) polarized reflectance is found to decrease exponentially with increasing scattering angle. Polarized reflectance of crop was found to be an order of magnitude smaller in comparison to the total reflectance. An attempt was also made to model the observed polarized behavior over an agricultural area using a theoretical simplified crop reflectance model and accounting for atmospheric molecular (Rayleigh) contribution in the single scattering approximation. It was found that there was a decrease in the polarized reflectance at the grain filling (heading) stage of wheat crop. This is in accordance with ground- based observations and can be due to the reduction in the specular component of the reflected light during post-heading stage of the crop.  相似文献

A band selection technique for spectral classification   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
In hyperspectral remote sensing, sensors acquire reflectance values at many different wavelength bands, to cover a complete spectral interval. These measurements are strongly correlated, and no new information might be added when increasing the spectral resolution. Moreover, the higher number of spectral bands increases the complexity of a classification task. Therefore, feature reduction is a crucial step. An alternative would be to choose the required sensor bands settings a priori. In this letter, we introduce a statistical procedure to provide band settings for a specific classification task. The proposed procedure selects wavelength band settings which optimize the separation between the different spectral classes. The method is applicable as a band reduction technique, but it can as well serve the purpose of data interpretation or be an aid in sensor design. Results on a vegetation classification task show an improvement in classification performance over feature selection and other band selection techniques.  相似文献
