The preliminary results of EXOSAT and contemporaneous optical observations of E1405-451 (V834 Cen) in 1985 and 1986 are presented. In the latter of the two observations the soft X-ray light curve was observed to be quite different to that seen in all previous observations, but similar to the optical light curve and the new soft X-ray light curve of E2003+225. A phase shift of the broad soft X-ray eclipse was also observed. The hard X-ray and optical light curves have also undergone small changes.Paper presented at the IAU Colloquium No. 93 on Cataclysmic Variables. A new method has been developed by Kopal (1977c, Paper XII) to make use of expressions for the fractional loss of light 0 l of the arbitrarily limb-darkened stars in the form of Hankel transforms of zero-order, in order to evaluate the explicit forms of the 0 l s for different types of eclipse, as well as of the momentsA 2m of the respective light curves in a closed form. The automated method has been tested successfully on the light curves of RT Persei. Also, a photometric curve fit of RT Persei is investigated by application of numerical quadratures to determine the theoretical light curve appropriate for the Roche model. Finally a comparative discussion is given of various methods of light curve analaysis. On leave from Department of Physics, University of Ferdowsi, Mashad, Iran.  相似文献

Coordinated IUE and EXOSAT observations of the symbiotic Mira R Aqr, made in June and December 1985, at phases 0.0 and 0.5 of the Mira light curve, are discussed. A weak X-ray flux has been for the first time unambiquously detected without any significant change with the Mira light curve. Also the UV spectrum of the central object has not varied, while the presence of high ionization lines (NV and HeII) in the spectrum of the jet-like feature is confirmed. The data are discussed in the light of a model in which the jet is preexisting material illuminated by the recently increased X and UV radiation from the inner edge of the accretion disk around the degenerate companion of the Mira primary.Paper presented at the IAU Colloquium No. 93 on Cataclysmic Variables. The paper is devoted to the actual problematics in the determination of orbital and physical parameters of active CB on the basis of the interpretation of photometric observations. One solves the problem in two stages: by obtaining a synthetic light curve in the case when the parameters of the corresponding CB model (Djuraevi, 1992a) are given a priori (direct problem) and by determining the parameters of the given model for which the best fit between the synthetic light curve and the observations is achieved (inverse problem) (Djuraevi, 1992b). In this paper, the above procedure is applied to a particular case of an interpretation of CB light curves AU Ser and RV Corvi.  相似文献

Infrared observations of the secondary minimum of the eclipsing system of Algol, secured recently by Nadeauet al. (1978) with the 200 in and 60 in reflectors of Mount Wilson and Palomar Observatories at the effective wavelength of 10 m, show its light curve to be distinctlydish-shaped-i.e., the light diminishes relatively fast in the early stages of the eclipse, and its rate of decline slows down in advanced partial phases. This fact indicates convincingly that the light distribution over the apparent disc of Algol's late-type (contact) component is akin to that produced by the phenomenon of gravity-darkening to a very pronounced degree.Past observational evidence on close binary systems has indicated that gravity-darkening consistent with the equilibrium structure of the stars was adequate to account for the light variations of such systems exhibited between minima, as long as their components remain on (or do not depart much from) the Main Sequence (Kopal, 1968b). However, for components close to (or at) their Roche limits, the photometric effects of gravity-darkening appear to be greatly exaggerated (Kopal, 1968a)—a result confirmed by subsequent investigators (cf. Parthasarathy, 1972; or Niarchos, 1978).An analysis of Algol's infrared light curve during the secondary minimum (when its contact component undergoes eclipse by its nearly spherical mate) observed at an effective wavelength of 10 m, discloses now that the (monochromatic) coefficient of the linear law of gravity-darkening, characterizing the distribution of brightness over the apparent disc of the contact star comes out again at least twice as large as one which would correspond to a purely radiative energy transfer of total light in the far interior of this star. No physical theory can be advanced to explain this fact—except, possibly, a hypothesis that the observed enhancement of the monochromatic coefficient of gravity-darkening over that appropriate for total radiation may be caused by a very wide departure of the outer layers of the respective stars from thermodynamic equilibrium.  相似文献

Radial velocity observations of V 1010 Oph obtained at Asiago from 23 spectra combined with those published by Guinan and Koch (1977) reveal a significant eccentricity (e0.20±0.03) with a periastron angle close to 90° at 1 level. This underlines the need for a new analysis of the light curve for photometric elements. On leave from Konkoly Observatory, Budapest, Hungary  相似文献

Photometric observation of HR 1099 inV andB obtained on 18 nights between January and March 1977 is presented. The amplitude of the asymmetric light curve is found to be 0m.10±0m.004 both inV andB. On three occasions—namely, JD 2443164. 17, JD 2443176. 14 and JD 2443177.12—the star brightened by 0m.05. Four H spectrograms at 42 Å mm–1 dispersion were obtained during October–November 1978. The profile and equivalent width of H of 14 November, 1978 suggest a probable major outburst.Analysis of all available photometry shows that (1) the amplitude and shape of the light curve change in a few orbital periods, (2) the phase of the minimum light migrated towards decreasing orbital phase during the interval JD 2442720 to JD 2443000 and from JD 2443200, there is almost a linear increase of the phase of the minimum light and (3) the phase of the light minimum sometimes shows to and fro behaviour suggesting the migration of the wave is not taking place smoothly.  相似文献

We present models for Type I supernova light curves based on the explosion of partially solid white dwarfs in close binary systems. Studies of such explosions show that they leave bound remnants of different size. Our results reproduce quite well the maximun luminosities, the expansion velocities and the shape of the light curve. As the two basic parameters that govern the light curve, the ejected mass and the mass of56Ni produced, are variable our models reproduce the slow and fast subclasses of classical Type I supernovae.Paper presented at the IAU Colloquium No. 93 on Cataclysmic Variables. Observations of the brightness and polarization of CEP over 1983-2002 are presented. An almost sinusoidal curve with a slightly varying amplitude and a period of about 850 days was fit to the light curve. The minima in the actual light curve often appear to be flooded with additional radiation compared to the smoothed curve. As an explanation of this phenomenon, we propose a working hypothesis whereby some radiation that is reflected back into the atmosphere near the equator through veiling by titanium oxide then partially diffuses into the near-polar regions where it escapes.  相似文献

Strong increasing of the width and the depth of the secondary minimum of the light curve of V444 Cyg Wolf-Rayet eclipsing binary discovered by Cherepashchuk and Khaliullin (1973, 1975) from simultaneous narrow band continuum observations (4244–7512 Å) have been confirmed by new quasi-simultaneous UJK observations. This increasing of the width and the depth of the secondary minimum implies strong increasing of the radius of the extended atmosphere of the WN5 star with wavelength, which cannot be explained be the theory of homogeneous WR wind. These data can be understood in the model of WR wind proposed by Cherepashchuk et al. (1984). New data, supporting the reliability of the light curve solution for V444 Cyg of Cherepashchuk (1975) are presented.  相似文献

We present here the photometric light curve analyses of the eclipsing binary star DN Aur. The CCD photometry, performed at the Behlen observatory using the 0.76 m automated telescope gave 646 individual data points inV andR bandpass filters. From this data we have determined a new epoch and an orbital period of 0.6168891 days. The published spectral classification is F3.The Wilson-Devinney model was used to derive the photometric solutions. DN Aur is a W UMa type contact binary system. The mass ratio, (q=m 2/m 10.210, where star 2 is eclipsed at the primary minimum) suggests that the system has A-type configuration. The computed light curve has a third light of about 22 percent and a total eclipse in the secondary minimum. A solution with a cool spot on the secondary component is also found. We recommend spectroscopic study of DN Aur even though the light curve analysis show it to be a single line spectroscopic system. Generally contact systems of spectral type F3 have periods ranging from 0.25 to 0.5 days. The longer period of DN Aur suggests that it is an evolved contact system with case A mass transfer.  相似文献

UBVR c I c observations of SN 2002ap during February, October, and November 2002 at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory are reported. An examination of our photometric data, along with published data, shows that over a period of about a year from the day the SN 2002ap supernova burst, the light curve passed through three developmental stages: a sharp rise, followed by a stage of rapid exponential decrease, and then a slower fading. Based on the shape of the light curve, this supernova is of type SN I, but according to the variation in its color indices, it more likely belongs to the SN Ic supernovae. In the premaximum stage, the energy distribution from 3000 to 6000 resembles the emission from a star of spectral class F5V. In the second stage of the light curve evolution, when the brightness falls off rapidly, the changes in the color indices are associated with a change in the radiation temperature indicative of rapid cooling of the ejected material. Taking the effective radiation temperature in the premaximum stage to be T eff 6500 K, we estimate the expansion velocity of the quasiphotosphere to be about 9700 km/s.  相似文献

We analyze the pre-flare and impulsive phase of an eruptive (two-ribbon) flare at several wavelengths. The total energy (mechanical plus radiative) released by the flare is 8 x 1030 erg, about a factor 6 higher than the free magnetic energy (1.3 1030 erg) estimated from the non-potentiality of the magnetic field configuration in the flare area. During the impulsive phase, we find a very good time coincidence between the hard X-ray light curve and the light curves for 2 small areas ( 4 in size) in the red wing of the H line and in the He-D3 line center. This temporal coincidence is compatible with the interpretation that hard X-ray emission is produced by bremsstrahlung of accelerated electron beams striking these dense areas. For the other regions of the H ribbons we find more gradual light curves, suggesting a different energy transport mechanism such as conduction.  相似文献

We present high-speed CCD photometry of Comet 9P/Tempel 1 during the Deep Impact event on 2005 July 4 UT. Approximately 2 h and 50 min of R-band data were acquired at Mount Laguna Observatory with a temporal resolution of 5.5 s. The flux increased by 9% in the first minute after impact. This was followed by a more gradual two-part linear rise, with a change in slope at 9.2 min post-impact, at which time the rate of brightening increased from ∼ to ∼. An analysis of the light curve obtained with the guide camera on the United Kingdom Infrared Telescope and yields very similar results. These findings are mildly in disagreement with the 3-part linear rise found by Fernández et al. (2007) in that we do not find any evidence for a change at 4 min post-impact. We interpret the linear rise phase as due to solar illumination of the edge of an expanding optically thick dust ejecta plume. After approximately 20 min, the light curves begin to flatten out, perhaps coincident with the start of the transition to becoming optically thin. In the large apertures (>10) the light curve continues to gradually rise until the end of the observations. In smaller apertures, the light curves reach a peak at approximately 50 min, then decrease back towards the pre-impact flux level. The drop in flux in the smaller apertures may be caused by the ejecta expanding beyond the edge of the photometric aperture, and if so, we can use this timescale to infer an expansion velocity of ∼, consistent with previous published estimates.  相似文献

The photoelectricB andV colour observations of the Lyrae-type eclipsing binary CN And were made on four nights at the Ege University Observatory. The new light elements, which were calculated by adding new times of minima obtained during the observations to the previous ones, were given. The light curve of the system varies cycle by cycle and the variation is discussed in some extent.  相似文献

We present the results of our Thousand Asteroid Light Curve Survey (TALCS) conducted with the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in September 2006. Our untargeted survey detected 828 Main Belt asteroids to a limiting magnitude of g22.5 corresponding to a diameter range of 0.4 km . Of these, 278 objects had photometry of sufficient quality to perform rotation period fits. We debiased the observations and light curve fitting process to determine the true distribution of rotation periods and light curve amplitudes of Main Belt asteroids. We confirm a previously reported excess in the fraction of fast rotators but find a much larger excess of slow rotating asteroids (∼15% of our sample). A few percent of objects in the TALCS size range have large light curve amplitudes of ∼1 mag. Fits to the debiased distribution of light curve amplitudes indicate that the distribution of triaxial ellipsoid asteroid shapes is proportional to the square of the axis ratio, (b/a)2, and may be bi-modal. Finally, we find six objects with rotation periods that may be less than 2 h with diameters between 400 m and 1.5 km, well above the break-up limit for a gravitationally-bound aggregate. Our debiased data indicate that this population represents <4% of the Main Belt in the 1-10 km size range.  相似文献

This paper investigates the nature of the relatively bright ( 7th magnitude) eclipsing variable R Arae (HD 149730A), which has an orbital period of 4d.42509, from the analysis of photometricUBV observations. The main objective behind such an analysis is to determine whether the system qualifies for a classical Algol of semi-detached status. An analysis has been performed twice on each of theUBV curves as well as the light curve due to Gaposchkin, utilising a light curve optimisation procedure. In the first analysis the presence of the visual companion (HD 1497330B) to R Arae (angular separation = 3'.6), whose light was present in all observations, was not accounted for. The second analysis attempts to account for this third light source. All the analyses indicate the relative radius of the secondary star, is of the order of 0.20. This value is well below the limit which would classify the system as a semi-detached binary. These results do, however, seem to be somewhat discordant with the spectroscopic and general photometric nature of the system, all of which suggest mass transfer processes to be occuring (therefore a possible semi-detached status). This is seen in several features, especially a marked increase in the system's mean orbital period, which tends to corroborate mass transfer from the secondary star.  相似文献

TheUBV-photometry of a well-known X-ray binary Her X-1/HZ Her over 16 years is presented. The mean light curves of this system were constructed, using our and published data. Based on our observations in primary minimum the colour behaviour of Her X-1/HZ Her was investigated. An additional radiation during total eclipse of accretion disk is found at the ascending branch of the light curve.Paper presented at the 11th European Regional Astronomical Meetings of the IAU on New Windows to the Universe, held 3–8 July, 1989, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain.  相似文献
