This paper presents the results of spectroscopic and photometric observations of the early-type W UMa system V535 Ara. New high-resolution spectra were taken at the Mt. John University Observatory in 2007. Radial velocities and spectroscopic orbital elements of the system were determined by applying KOREL spectral disentangling. The resulting orbital elements were: a1sini = 0.0047 ± 0.0001 AU, a2sini = 0.0146 ± 0.0001 AU, M1sin3i = 1.85 ± 0.01 M, and M2sin3i = 0.59 ± 0.01 M. The components were found to be in synchronous rotation following examination of their disentangled Hγ line profiles. Four photometric data-sets (1966 BV, 1967 BV, HIPPARCOS and ASAS) were modeled using the Wilson-Devinney method. The model describes V535 Ara as an A sub-type W UMa type eclipsing binary which has a fill out factor of 0.22 in marginal contact configuration. The simultaneous solution of light and radial velocity curves gave the following absolute parameters: M1 = 1.94 ± 0.04 M, M2 = 0.59 ± 0.02 M, R1 = 2.09 ± 0.03 R, R2 = 1.23 ± 0.02R, L1 = 18 ± 3 L and L2 = 6 ± 1 L. The distance to V535 Ara was calculated as 123 ± 20 pc using distance modulus with correction for interstellar extinction.  相似文献

BUSS observations of the profiles of two well observed spectral lines in the ultraviolet spectrum of CMi (Procyon; F5 IV–V) are analysed with a Fourier transform method in order to determine values of various parameters of the velocity field of the upper photosphere. We find a microturbulent line-of-sight velocity componentL = 0.9 ± 0.4 km s–1, a macroturbulent velocity componentL M = 5.3 ± 0.2 km s–1, and a rotational velocity componentv R sini=10.0±1.2 km s–1. In these calculations a single-moded sinusoidal isotropic macroturbulent velocity function was assumed. The result appears to be sensitive to the assumed shape of the macroturbulence function: for an assumed Gaussian shape the observations can be described withv R sini=4 km s–1 andL M = 11.6 ± 2.7 km s–1. A comparison is made with other results and theoretical predictions.  相似文献

Photometry of HD 155638=V792 Her has been analyzed to determine the elements of this totally eclipsing RS CVn binary. The light variation outside eclipse was found to have a period of 27d.07±0d.07, which is slightly different from the 27d.5384±0d.0045 orbital period. Analysis of the eclipses was achieved by a modification of the Russell-Merrill technique. With the aid of radial velocity measures, absolute elements were obtained for the hot and cool stars, respectively;R h=2.58R ,R c=12.28R ,M h=1.40M ,M c=1.46M ,i=80o.61 and velocity semi-amplitudesK c=48.36 km s–1±0.79 km s–1, andK h=50.50 km s–1±0.33 km s–1. The apparent magnitudes areV h=9 m .73 andV c=8 m .48. The distance to HD 155638 was estimated to be 310 parsecs.  相似文献

Differential photoelectric photometry inV, B, andU has been obtained for the eclipsing binary MM Her, a member of the RS Canum Venaticorum class. The light outside eclipse was Fourier-analyzed to study the wave. The migration and amplitude of the wave and the mean light level of the system now have been monitored from 1976 through 1980. The phase of wave minimum has decreased from 0 . P 80 to 0 . P 25, the wave amplitude has varied between 0 . m 06 and 0 . m 12, and the mean light level has fluctuated between 0.94 and 0.99. Observations within eclipse revealed that the eclipses are partial, not total as previously thought, and a new time of mid-eclipse was found to be JD (hel.)=2444 500.6665±0 . d 0008. The Russell model was used to solve the 1980 light curve. Elements of the rectified light curve werei=86 . ° 35±0 . ° 09,r h =0.070±0.002,r c =0.125±0.001,L h (V)=0.585±0.008 andL h (B)=0.683±0.010. The geometric elements were forced on the pre-1980 light curves and found to be compatible. With these elements and previously obtained double-lined radial velocity curves, new absolute dimensions have been calculated: 1.18M and 1.58R for the hotter star and 1.27M and 2.83R for the cooler star. For single-lined spectroscopic binary stars (SBI), the mass ratioq=M sec/M prim is calculated from the mass functionf(m), which is determined from observations. For statistical investigations of the mass-ratio distribution, the term sin3 i, that remains in the cubic equation from whichq is solved, has to be dealt with.This paper compares the common practise of taking an average value for sin3 i to a deconvolution scheme that takes into account the precise (expected) behaviour ofP (sin3 i) d sin3 i. The behaviour ofP(sin3 i) d sin3 i depends on how orbital planes of binary stars are oriented in space. For a random orientation of orbital planes,P i(i) di=sini di. For the average value method, it is generally assumed thatP i(i) di=(4/) sin2 i di.For verification purposes, the deconvolution scheme is applied to an observed sample of double-lined spectroscopic binary stars (SBII), and to a synthetic sample of SBI systems, produced by a numerical model. In both cases, the scheme produces better results with the assumption thatP i(i) di=(4/gp) sin2 i di, rather than a purely random orientation of orbital planes. In the case of the synthetic sample of SBI systems, the deconvolution scheme does not produce better results than the method that assumes an average value for sin3 i.Application of the deconvolution method to the double-lined spectroscopic binary systems in theEighth Catalogue of the Orbital Elements of Spectroscopic Binary Stars, provides results which are compatible with the assumption that the orbital planes of these systems are oriented randomly in space.  相似文献

The period of light variationP=1 . d 13316 has been found for the silicon B9 IVp star HD 193722. Spectroscopic study of this star was based on 35 spectrograms with dispersion 4 Å mm–1 well distributed in phase. The measurements of radial velocities of spectral line components for SiII, HeI, EuII, FeII and SrII allowed us to localize several regions on the surface of the star with enhanced abundance of these elements. The phase of maximum light inU, B andV was found to be the same as the phase of maximum Eu abundance. The coincidence of the regions with larger abundance of Si and He in HD 193 722 disagree with the hypothesis of diffusion in the presence of a magnetic field developed by Michaud (1971), to explain the peculiar chemical composition of Ap-stars.HD 193722 is a silicon B9 IVp star for which the magnetic field has not been measured. In the list by Palmeret al. (1962) its rotational velocityV sini is given as 250 kms–1. As will be seen below, this value is too high. Megessier (1971) determined from hydrogen line profiles and continuous spectrumT eff=13 000° and lgg=3.5.The results of photometric and spectroscopic study of HD193722 are given below.  相似文献

The Hipparcos Space Astrometry Mission photometric observations of V398 Lac, led to the discovery of its variability, allowing to classify it as an eclipsing binary with an orbital period of about 5.4 days. This prompted us to acquire highresolution échelle spectra with the aim of performing accurate radial velocity measurements and to determine the main physical parameters of the system's components. We present, for the first time, a double‐lined radial velocity curve and determine the orbital and physical parameters of the two components, that can be classified both as late B‐type stars. In particular, we obtained an orbital inclination i ∼ 85°. With this value of the inclination, we deduced masses M1 = 3.83±0.35 M andM2 = 3.29±0.32 M, and radii R1 = 4.89±0.18 R and R2 = 2.45±0.11 R for the more massive and less massive components, respectively. Both components are well inside their own Roche lobes. The mass ratio is M2/M1 ∼ 0.86. We derived also the projected rotational velocities as v1 sin i = 79±2 km s–1 and v2 sin i = 19±2 km s–1. Our measurements indicate that the rotation of the primary star is essentially pseudo‐synchronized with the orbital velocity at the periastron, while the secondary appears to rotate very slowly and has not yet attained synchronization. Photometric and spectroscopic characteristics of the WN5+O6 binary system, V444 Cyg, were studied. The Wilson‐Devinney (WD) analysis, using new BV observations carried out at the Ankara University Observatory, revealed the masses, radii, and temperatures of the components of the system as MWR = 10.64 M, MO = 24.68 M, RWR = 7.19 R, RO = 6.85 R, TWR = 31 000 K, and TO = 40000 K, respectively. It was found that both components had a full spherical geometry, whereas the circumstellar envelope of the WR component had an asymmetric structure. The OC analysis of the system revealed a period lengthening of 0.139 ± 0.018 syr–1, implying a mass loss rate of (6.76 ± 0.39) ×10–6 M yr–1 for the WR component. Moreover, 106 IUE‐NEWSIPS spectra were obtained from NASA's IUE archive for line identification and determination of line profile variability with phase, wind velocities and variability in continuum fluxes. The integrated continuum flux level (between 1200–2000 Å) showed a mild and regular increase from orbital phase 0.00 up to 0.50 and then a decrease in the same way back to phase 0.00. This is evaluated as the O component making a constant and regular contribution to the system's UV light as the dominant source. The C IV line, originating in the circumstellar envelope, had the highest velocity while N IV line, originating in deeper layers of the envelope, had the lowest velocity. Available data on the distances and radial velocities of galaxies are systematized in order to study the distribution of peculiar velocities in neighborhoods of the Local cosmic void lying in the direction of the Aquila and Hercules constellations. A sample of 1056 galaxies is used, with distances measured in terms of the luminosity of the tip of the red giant branch (TRGB), the luminosity of the cepheids, the luminosity of type 1a supernovae, surface brightness fluctuations (SBF), and the Tully-Fisher relation. The amplitude of the outflow velocity of the galaxies is found to be ∼300 km/s. The average number density of galaxies inside the void is roughly a factor of five lower than the average outside it. The Local void population is characterized by lower luminosities and later morphological types, with medians of M B = − 15m.7 and T=8 (Sdm), respectively.  相似文献

Results of high-dispersion spectroscopy (10 Å mm–1) of the symbiotic star AX Per carried out in the years from 1979 to 1987 are reported. The emission line [FeVII] 6086 consists of a narrow and a broad component; the radial velocity of the narrow one varies according to the photometric period 681.6 days. This variation (K=30.6±1.5 km s–1) seems to be due to the orbital motion of the hot star. The radial velocity of absorption lines varies with an inverse phase dependence and a much smaller amplitude (K=5.6±2 km s–1), which may reflect the orbital motion of the red giant. The variation of the radial velocity of the emission lines of FeII, ect. (K=6.7±1.5 km s–1) might be due to the rotation of the red giant. The profile of H emission line suddenly changed around the phase of the photometric minimum, which could be explained as a result of an eclipse of the emitting region by the red giant. On the other hand, some problems remain open in the behaviour of the radial velocities of H and HeI 5876.The observed results support a binary model of AX Per consisting of a rather massive (3M ) M-type giant and a Main-Sequence star (0.6M ). AX Per seems to be in an early stage of the Case C mass transfer, and the estimated very high mass accretion rate (10–4 M yr–1) is consistent with the theoretical models. The narrow component of the emission line of [FeVII] 6086 might be emitted in radiatively driven polar jets on the hot star of which luminosity is close to the Eddington limit.A new identification as ZrII at 6106.47 Å is proposed for the emission line at 6106 Å.  相似文献

We investigate numerically the chemodynamical evolution of major disc–disc galaxy mergers in order to explore the origin of the mass-dependent chemical, photometric and spectroscopic properties observed in elliptical galaxies. We investigate especially the dependence of the fundamental properties on merger progenitor disc mass (M d). Three main results are obtained in this study:– More massive (luminous) ellipticals formed by galaxy mergers between more massive spirals have higher metallicity (Z) and thus show redder colours; the typical metallicity ranges from ∼ 1.0 solar abundance (Z∼ 0.02) for ellipticals formed by mergers with M d = 1010 M to ∼ 2.0 solar (Z∼ 0.04) for those with M d= 1012 M .– Both the Mg2 line index in the central part of ellipticals (R ≤ 0.1 R e) and the radial gradient of Mg2 (δ Mg2 / δ log R) are more likely to be larger for massive ellipticals. δ Mg2 / δ log R correlates reasonably well with the central Mg2 in ellipticals. For most of the present merger models, ellipticals show a positive radial gradient of the Hβ line index. – Both M/L B and M/L K (where M, L B, and L K are the total stellar mass of galaxy mergers, the B-band and the K-band luminosities, respectively) depend on galactic mass in such a way that more massive ellipticals have larger M/L B and smaller M/L K. From two sets of the spectroscopic observations covering a ten year period we have obtained 59 radial velocities of the chromospherically-active star HD 28591 = V492 Per. It is a G9III single-lined spectroscopic binary with a period of 21.2910 days and a circular orbit. Thev sini of 24.6 km s–1, results in a minimum radius 10.3R . We estimate a distance of 165 ± 40 pc and an orbital inclination of 65 ± 25 degrees. The secondary is probably a mid to late-type K dwarf. The star is brighter than the limiting magnitude of theBright Star Catalogue. The mean photometric and the orbital periods are identical within their uncertainties. Photometry and first results of extensive CCD-spectroscopy of the UX UMa system RW Sex are presented. The period is found to be P=0.24486 days and the semi-amplitude of the radial velocity is K1=101 km s–1. The mass of a Roche-lobe filling secondary is M2=(0.54±0.09) M0 and, for M1M2, the mass ratio is M1/M2=1.5±0.5. The accretion rate is about (2–3) 1017 g/s. A method for analysing line profiles by means of a transform using Bessel functions is described. This yields the stellar rotational velocityv sini, to an accuracy of about ±1 km s–1 for rotational velocities greater than about 5 km s–1, provided that rotation is the major source of line broadening. The theory of the method is a special case of a general theory of linear transforms in data analysis, which is outlined in an appendix.  相似文献

We present the results of the high-resolution spectroscopic observations of the neglected binary system HD 194495 (B3 IV-V+B4 V). A combined analysis of three different photometric data set (Tycho BT and VT photometry, Hp-band data of Hipparcos and V-band data of ASAS3 photometry) and radial velocities indicates that the system has an orbital period of 4.90494 ± 0.00005 days and an inclination of 69 ± 1 degrees. This solution yields masses and radii of M1 = 7.57 ± 0.08 M and R1 = 5.82 ± 0.03 R for the primary and M2 = 5.46 ± 0.09 M and R2 = 3.14 ± 0.08 R for the secondary. Based on the position of the two stars plotted on a theoretical H-R diagram, we find that the age of the system is ?28 Myr, according to stellar evolutionary models. The spectroscopic and photometric results are in agreement with those obtained using theoretical predictions.  相似文献

Data from the H I Parkes All-Sky Survey (HIPASS) of the southern sky in the neutral hydrogen line are used to determine the radial velocities and widths of the H I line for flat spiral galaxies of the Revised Flat-Galaxy Catalog (RFGC) seen edge-on. The sample of 103 flat galaxies detected in HIPASS is characterized by a median radial velocity of +2037 km/sec and a median width of the H I line at the level of 50% of maximum of 242 km/sec. For RFGC galaxies the 50% detection level in HIPASS corresponds to an apparent magnitude B t = 14 m .5 or an angular diameter a = 2.9. The relative number of detected galaxies increases from 2% for the morphological types Sbc and Sc to 41% for the type Sm. The median value of the ratio of hydrogen mass to total mass for RFGC galaxies is 0.079. With allowance for the average internal extinction for edge-on galaxies, <B t< = 0 m .75, the median ratio of hydrogen mass to luminosity, M H I/L B = 0.74 M /L , is typical for late-type spirals. Because of its small depth, HIPASS reveals only a few RFGC galaxies with previously unknown velocities and line widths.  相似文献

We used the Revised Flat Galaxy Catalog (RFGC) to select 817 ultra-flat (UF) edge-on disk galaxies with blue and red apparent axial ratios of (a/b)B > 10.0 and (a/b)R > 8.5. The sample covering the whole sky, except the Milky Way zone, contains 490 UF galaxies with measured radial velocities. Our inspection of the neighboring galaxies around them revealed only 30 companions with radial velocity difference of | ΔV |< 500 kms?1 inside the projected separation of Rp < 250 kpc. Wherein, the wider area around the UF galaxy within Rp < 750 kpc contains no other neighbors brighter than the UF galaxy itself in the same velocity span. The resulting sample galaxies mostly belong to the morphological types Sc, Scd, Sd. They have a moderate rotation velocity curve amplitude of about 120 km s?1 and a moderate K-band luminosity of about 1010L. The median difference of radial velocities of their companions is 87 km s?1, yielding the median orbital mass estimate of about 5 × 1011M. Excluding six probable non-isolated pairs, we obtained a typical halo-mass-to-stellar-mass of UF galaxies of about 30, what is almost the same one as in the principal spiral galaxies, like M31 and M81 in the nearest groups. We also note that ultra-flat galaxies look two times less “dusty” than other spirals of the same luminosity.  相似文献
