The problem of optimizing the interplanetary trajectories of a spacecraft (SC) with a solar electric propulsion system (SEPS) is examined. The problem of investigating the permissible power minimum of the solar electric propulsion power plant required for a successful flight is studied. Permissible ranges of thrust and exhaust velocity are analyzed for the given range of flight time and final mass of the spacecraft. The optimization is performed according to Portnyagin’s maximum principle, and the continuation method is used for reducing the boundary problem of maximal principle to the Cauchy problem and to study the solution/ parameters dependence. Such a combination results in the robust algorithm that reduces the problem of trajectory optimization to the numerical integration of differential equations by the continuation method.  相似文献

Non-Keplerian orbits for electric sails   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
An electric sail is capable of guaranteeing the fulfilment of a class of trajectories that would be otherwise unfeasible through conventional propulsion systems. In particular, the aim of this paper is to analyze the electric sail capabilities of generating a class of displaced non-Keplerian orbits, useful for the observation of the Sun’s polar regions. These orbits are characterized through their physical parameters (orbital period and solar distance) and the spacecraft propulsion capabilities. A comparison with a solar sail is made to highlight which of the two systems is more convenient for a given mission scenario. The optimal (minimum time) transfer trajectories towards the displaced orbits are found with an indirect approach.  相似文献

The fuel consumption associated with some interplanetary transfer trajectories using chemical propulsion is not affordable. A solar sail is a method of propulsion that does not consume fuel. Transfer time is one of the most pressing problems of solar sail transfer trajectory design. This paper investigates the time-optimal interplanetary transfer trajectories to a circular orbit of given inclination and radius. The optimal control law is derived from the principle of maximization. An indirect method is used...  相似文献

Aspects of the design of small spacecraft with electric propulsion power plants for investigating minor bodies in the Solar System are examined. The results of design and ballistic analysis of transfer into an orbit of terrestrial asteroids using electric propulsion thrusters are given. The possible concept design of the spacecraft is determined and the structure of a small spacecraft with an electric propulsion power plant is presented. Parameters of the electric propulsion power plant of a small spacecraft for a flight to the minor bodies of the Solar System are estimated.  相似文献

SMART-1 is a technology demonstrator for using primary electric propulsion on interplanetary spacecraft. Hence, studying of the interaction of the plasma emitted by the thruster with the environment and the spacecraft is one of the top priorities during the mission. Two experiments (Electronic propulsion diagnostic package and Spacecraft potential, electron and dust experiment) are available to measure the electron densities and temperatures as well as wave electric fields during the operation of the electric propulsion thruster. Additionally, a retarding potential analyser, a quartz microbalance and a solar-cell sample will analyse data from slow charge-exchange ions which are a potential contamination source. ESTEC is developing a 3D particle-in-cell model in order to study the spacecraft/environment interactions on SMART-1 and interpret the measurements. In the present paper, we will review the contamination effects associated with electric propulsion and how the plasma sensors cover them. We further present preliminary results from the numerical simulation and show how the flight data will be used to validate the modelling code. A successful validation of the simulation will support future interplanetary and commercial missions featuring electric propulsion to reduce the risk of contamination and interference with on board instruments.  相似文献

The design of spacecraft trajectories is a crucial part of a space mission design. Often the mission goal is tightly related to the spacecraft trajectory. A geostationary orbit is indeed mandatory for a stationary equatorial position. Visiting a solar system planet implies that a proper trajectory is used to bring the spacecraft from Earth to the vicinity of the planet. The first planetary missions were based on conventional trajectories obtained with chemical engine rockets. The manoeuvres could be considered 'impulsive' and clear limitations to the possible missions were set by the energy required to reach certain orbits. The gravity-assist trajectories opened a new way of wandering through the solar system, by exploiting the gravitational field of some planets. The advent of other propulsion techniques, as electric or ion propulsion and solar sail, opened a new dimension to the planetary trajectory, while at the same time posing new challenges. These 'low thrust' propulsion techniques cannot be considered 'impulsive' anymore and require for their study mathematical techniques which are substantially different from before. The optimisation of such trajectories is also a new field of flight dynamics, which involves complex treatments especially in multi-revolution cases as in a lunar transfer trajectory. One advantage of these trajectories is that they allow to explore regions of space where different bodies gravitationally compete with each other. We can exploit therefore these gravitational perturbations to save fuel or reduce time of flight. The SMART-1 spacecraft, first European mission to the Moon, will test for the first time all these techniques. The paper is a summary report on various activities conducted by the project team in these areas.  相似文献

The paper analyzes the possibility for countering ballistic perturbations of the interplanetary transfer trajectory of the spacecraft with electric propulsion (EP) associated with the temporary impossibility of the normal use of the EP in phases of the heliocentric transfer. The main result of the present study is the method for the determination of a new nominal trajectory, at any point of which the allowed duration of the emergency shutdown of electric propulsion is large enough. The numerical analysis is given for one of the possible scenarios of spacecraft injection into the operational heliocentric orbit for solar research.  相似文献

We consider periodic halo orbits about artificial equilibrium points (AEP) near to the Lagrange points L 1 and L 2 in the circular restricted three body problem, where the third body is a low-thrust propulsion spacecraft in the Sun–Earth system. Although such halo orbits about artificial equilibrium points can be generated using a solar sail, there are points inside L 1 and beyond L 2 where a solar sail cannot be placed, so low-thrust, such as solar electric propulsion, is the only option to generate artificial halo orbits around points inaccessible to a solar sail. Analytical and numerical halo orbits for such low-thrust propulsion systems are obtained by using the Lindstedt Poincaré and differential corrector method respectively. Both the period and minimum amplitude of halo orbits about artificial equilibrium points inside L 1 decreases with an increase in low-thrust acceleration. The halo orbits about artificial equilibrium points beyond L 2 in contrast show an increase in period with an increase in low-thrust acceleration. However, the minimum amplitude first increases and then decreases after the thrust acceleration exceeds 0.415 mm/s2. Using a continuation method, we also find stable artificial halo orbits which can be sustained for long integration times and require a reasonably small low-thrust acceleration 0.0593 mm/s2.  相似文献

The problem of fuel optimal rendezvous and transfer maneuvers in a central gravitational field is considered. By using analytical results and a parametrization of the control functions, the original optimal control problem can be solved by a sequence of mathematical programming problems. After introducingg KS-variables and piecewise-constant thrust accelerations, all necessary trajectory integrations are performed in closed form. This optimization procedure leads to a considerable reduction in computing time and allows the solution of a wide class of problems: The propulsion system may be thrust-limited or power-limited, one may consider rendezvous or transfer maneuvers with fixed or free final time. A numerical example for a 3-dimensional maneuver is included.  相似文献

This paper introduces a new approach to the study of artificial equilibrium points in the circular restricted three-body problem for propulsion systems with continuous and purely radial thrust. The propulsion system is described by means of a general mathematical model that encompasses the behavior of different systems like a solar sail, a magnetic sail and an electric sail. The proposed model is based on the choice of a coefficient related to the propulsion type and a performance parameter that quantifies the system technological complexity. The propulsion system is therefore referred to as generalized sail. The existence of artificial equilibrium points for a generalized sail is investigated. It is shown that three different families of equilibrium points exist, and their characteristic locus is described geometrically by varying the value of the performance parameter. The linear stability of the artificial points is also discussed.  相似文献

The orbit of a geostationary satellite has to be corrected from time to time in order to compensate for the effects of various perturbations. This is usually done by means of a system of thrusters mounted on the satellite. In this paper a method is developed to find the optimal thrusting strategy for the case of an electric propulsion system under given limitations on thrust magnitude and operation times. Optimization techniques are applied to minimize a cost function which is a weighted combination of fuel consumption and station keeping errors.Proceedings of the Sixth Conference on Mathematical Methods in Celestial Mechanics held at Oberwolfach (West Germany) from 14 to 19 August, 1978.

In this paper, a method to capture near-Earth objects (NEOs) incorporating low-thrust propulsion into the invariant manifolds technique is investigated. Assuming that a tugboat-spacecraft is in a rendez-vous condition with the candidate asteroid, the aim is to take the joint spacecraft-asteroid system to a selected periodic orbit of the Sun–Earth restricted three-body system: the orbit can be either a libration point periodic orbit (LPO) or a distant prograde periodic orbit (DPO) around the Earth. In detail, low-thrust propulsion is used to bring the joint spacecraft-asteroid system from the initial condition to a point belonging to the stable manifold associated to the final periodic orbit: from here onward, thanks to the intrinsic dynamics of the physical model adopted, the flight is purely ballistic. Dedicated guided and capture sets are introduced to exploit the combined use of low-thrust propulsion with stable manifolds trajectories, aiming at defining feasible first guess solutions. Then, an optimal control problem is formulated to refine and improve them. This approach enables a new class of missions, whose solutions are not obtainable neither through the patched-conics method nor through the classic invariant manifolds technique.  相似文献

Using results obtained in our earlier paper (Ballester and Kleczek, 1983) and the equipartition principle we attempt to calculate the lower limits of magnetic fields in three solar prominences. The values are then compared with the magnetic fields found by experimental methods. Furthermore, we have calculated by Ampère's law the lower limits of electric currents inside the conical surface where the knot's motion is located. The results obtained are compared with a few determinations of electric currents in prominences, that can be found in the bibliography. An attempt is made to use a three-currents system to explain the configuration of magnetic fields in solar prominences.  相似文献

We consider the problem of ensuring an energy balance of geostationary spacecraft (SCs) that will arise on October 13, 2015, during the long-duration eclipse of the solar disk visible from the SC by the Moon and the Earth. A technique for assessment of the eclipse duration, taking into account the shaded area of visible solar disk, is set forth, and results of calculating the eclipse conditions for different SC “stationary” points in the geostationary orbit are given. The data presented will allow the specialists to be prepared in advance for specific ballistic conditions of SC operation at this date and to plan operations to ensure the power balance of the SC power supply system during the prolonged shading of the Sun by the Moon and the Earth.  相似文献

Determining the coronal electron density by the inversion of white-light polarized brightness (pB) measurements by coronagraphs is a classic problem in solar physics. An inversion technique based on the spherically symmetric geometry (spherically symmetric inversion, SSI) was developed in the 1950s and has been widely applied to interpret various observations. However, to date there is no study of the uncertainty estimation of this method. We here present the detailed assessment of this method using a three-dimensional (3D) electron density in the corona from 1.5 to 4 R as a model, which is reconstructed by a tomography method from STEREO/COR1 observations during the solar minimum in February 2008 (Carrington Rotation, CR 2066). We first show in theory and observation that the spherically symmetric polynomial approximation (SSPA) method and the Van de Hulst inversion technique are equivalent. Then we assess the SSPA method using synthesized pB images from the 3D density model, and find that the SSPA density values are close to the model inputs for the streamer core near the plane of the sky (POS) with differences generally smaller than about a factor of two; the former has the lower peak but extends more in both longitudinal and latitudinal directions than the latter. We estimate that the SSPA method may resolve the coronal density structure near the POS with angular resolution in longitude of about 50°. Our results confirm the suggestion that the SSI method is applicable to the solar minimum streamer (belt), as stated in some previous studies. In addition, we demonstrate that the SSPA method can be used to reconstruct the 3D coronal density, roughly in agreement with the reconstruction by tomography for a period of low solar activity (CR 2066). We suggest that the SSI method is complementary to the 3D tomographic technique in some cases, given that the development of the latter is still an ongoing research effort.  相似文献

Abstract— As the solar system formed, it inherited and perpetuated a rich organic chemistry, the molecular products of which are preserved in ancient extraterrestrial objects such as carbonaceous chondrites. These organic‐rich meteorites provide a valuable and tangible record of the chemical steps taken towards the origin of life in the early solar system. Chondritic organic matter is present in the inorganic meteorite matrix which, in the CM and CI chondrites, contains evidence of alteration by liquid water on the parent asteroid. An unanswered and fundamental question is to what extent did the organic matter and inorganic products of aqueous alteration interact or display interdependence? We have used an organic labelling technique to reveal that the meteoritic organic matter is strongly associated with clay minerals. This association suggests that clay minerals may have had an important trapping and possibly catalytic role in chemical evolution in the early solar system prior to the origin of life on the early Earth.  相似文献

The paper describes the method for the development of programs for two-parameter multiple impulse correction of altitude and inclination of circular orbits. The considered corrections feature the simultaneous adjustment of altitude and inclination of the orbit under limited thrust of the propulsion system of the spacecraft. Low thrust-to-weight ratio of the spacecraft leads to the need for a correction program consisting of several burns of the propulsion system. Thrust vector orientation, burn time, and its operation duration are determined as propulsion system parameters.  相似文献
