We investigate the influence of the following parameters on the crust properties of strange stars: the strange quark mass (m s), the strong coupling constant (αc) and the vacuum energy density (B). It is found that the mass density at the crust base of strange stars cannot reach the neutron drip density. For a conventional parameter set of m s=200 MeV, B 1/4 = 145 MeV and αc = 0.3, the maximum density at the crust base of a typical strange star is only 5.5 × 1010 gcm-3, and correspondingly the maximum crust mass is 1.4 ×10-6 M. Subsequently, we present the thermal structure and the cooling behavior of strange stars with crusts of different thickness, and under different diquark pairing gaps. Our work might provide important clues for distinguishing strange stars from neutron stars.  相似文献

Taking into account the peculiar properties of hybrid stars, stars containing both a core of strange quark matter and the solid crust of a neutron star, and employing a fully self-consistent second-order correction technique, we study the time scale of bulk viscosity dissipation at the low temperature limit (T < 109 K) and with this time scale we calculate the critical spin frequency of the hybrid star. It is found that its minimal value is 704.42 Hz (corresponding to a pulse period of 1.42 ms). When this is compared with the periods of neutron and strange stars, a better interpretation of the observational data is obtained.  相似文献

We obtained a series of four observations of the isolated neutron star Geminga over an 18 month period using the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) Wide Field Camera (WFC) on the Hubble Space Telescope in order to determine its trigonometric parallax. We find the parallax π=4.0±1.3 mas, corresponding to a distance to Geminga of 250 ?62 +120  pc, a result 60% larger than the previously published value. The proper motion is 178.2±1.8 mas/year. In this paper, we describe the analysis techniques in detail since the amplitude of the parallactic shift is smaller than the camera’s pixel size. We fit each star in the images with an appropriate effective PSF and applied a distortion correction to generate stellar positions accurate to 0.01 pixels (~0.5 mas). The 134 stars common to all images serve to establish a reference frame for alignment of the image series. Our observations were made around the times of maximum parallactic shift. We discuss the implications of this new distance measurement for the inferred radius of Geminga, and the neutron star equation of state.  相似文献

We study acoustic oscillations (eigenfrequencies, velocity distributions, damping times) of normal crusts of strange stars. These oscillations are very specific because of huge density jump at the interface between the normal crust and the strange matter core. The oscillation problem is shown to be self-similar. For a low (but non-zero) multipolarity l , the fundamental mode (without radial nodes) has a frequency of ∼300 Hz and mostly horizontal oscillation velocity; other pressure modes have frequencies ≳20 kHz and almost radial oscillation velocities. The latter modes are similar to radial oscillations (having approximately the same frequencies and radial velocity profiles). The oscillation spectrum of strange stars with crust differs from the spectrum of neutron stars. If detected, acoustic oscillations would allow one to discriminate between strange stars with crust and neutron stars and constrain the mass and radius of the star.  相似文献

We discuss the possible observational manifestation of the formation of massive black holes in galactic nuclei in the form of an intense high-energy neutrino flux. A short-lived (≤10 yr) hidden neutrino source results from the natural dynamicalal evolution of a central star cluster in the galactic nucleus before its gravitational collapse. The central star cluster at the final evolutionary stage consists of degenerate compact stars (neutron stars and stellar-mass black holes) and is embedded in a massive gaseous envelope produced by destructive collisions of normal stars. Multiple fireballs from frequent collisions of neutron stars give rise to a tenuous quasi-stationary cavity in the central part of the massive envelope. The cavity is filled with shock waves on which an effective cosmic-ray acceleration takes place. Allthe accelerated particles, except the secondary high-energy neutrinos, are absorbed in the dense envelope. The neutrino signal that carries information on the dynamicals of the collapsing galactic nucleus can be recorded by a neutrino detector with an effective area S∼1 km2.  相似文献

Strong (B?109 G) and superstrong (B?1014 G) magnetic fields profoundly affect many thermodynamic and kinetic characteristics of dense plasmas in neutron star envelopes. In particular, they produce strongly anisotropic thermal conductivity in the neutron star crust and modify the equation of state and radiative opacities in the atmosphere, which are major ingredients of the cooling theory and spectral atmosphere models. As a result, both the radiation spectrum and the thermal luminosity of a neutron star can be affected by the magnetic field. We briefly review these effects and demonstrate the influence of magnetic field strength on the thermal structure of an isolated neutron star, putting emphasis on the differences brought about by the superstrong fields and high temperatures of magnetars. For the latter objects, it is important to take proper account of a combined effect of the magnetic field on thermal conduction and neutrino emission at densities ρ?1010 g?cm?3. We show that the neutrino emission puts a B-dependent upper limit on the effective surface temperature of a cooling neutron star.  相似文献

When analyzing the archival data of the INTEGRAL observatory, we detected an intense X-ray burst recorded on April 16, 2005, by the JEM-X and IBIS/ISGRI telescopes from the weak and poorly studied source AX J1754.2-2754. Analysis of its time profiles and spectra allows this event to be attributed to type I X-ray bursts associated with thermonuclear explosions on the surfaces of neutron stars and the source itself to X-ray bursters. Peculiarities of the X-ray emission observed at the initial evolutionary phase of the burst point to a dramatic expansion and a corresponding cooling of the neutron star photosphere that took place at this time under the action of radiation pressure. Assuming the luminosity of the source at this phase to be the Eddington one, we have estimated the distance to the burst to be d = 6.6 ± 0.3 kpc (for a hydrogen atmosphere of the neutron star) and d = 9.2 ± 0.4 kpc (for a helium atmosphere).  相似文献

We present a detailed investigation of X-ray source contents of eight young open clusters with ages between 4 to 46 Myr using archival X-ray data from XMM-Newton. The probable cluster memberships of the X-ray sources have been established on the basis of multi-wavelength archival data, and samples of 152 pre-main sequence (PMS) low mass (<2M ), 36 intermediate mass (2–10M ) and 16 massive (>10M ) stars have been generated. X-ray spectral analyses of high mass stars reveal the presence of high temperature plasma with temperature <2 keV, and mean L X/L bol of 10???6.9. In the case of PMS low mass stars, the plasma temperatures have been found to be in the range of 0.2 keV to 3 keV with a median value of ~1.3 keV, with no significant difference in plasma temperatures during their evolution from 4 to 46 Myr. The X-ray luminosity distributions of the PMS low mass stars have been found to be similar in the young star clusters under study. This may suggest a nearly uniform X-ray activity in the PMS low mass stars of ages ~4–14 Myr. These observed values of L X/L bol are found to have a mean value of 10??3.6±0.4, which is below the X-ray saturation level. The L X/L bol values for the PMS low mass stars are well correlated with their bolometric luminosities, that implies its dependence on the internal structure of the low mass stars. The difference between the X-ray luminosity distributions of the intermediate mass stars and the PMS low mass stars has not been found to be statistically significant. Their L X/L bol values, however have been found to be significantly different from each other with a confidence level greater than 99.999% and the strength of X-ray activity in the intermediate mass stars is found to be lower compared to the low mass stars. However, the possibility of X-ray emission from the intermediate mass stars due to a low mass star in close proximity of the intermediate mass star can not be ruled out.  相似文献

Strange stars are compact objects similar to neutron stars composed of strange matter. This paper investigates the observational effects of the strong interaction between quarks. We believe: 1) that the conversion of a neutron star to a strange star is a large “period glitch” which is determined by the strong interaction; 2) that the strong interaction results in effective damping of oscillation of hot strange stars, which could be a new mechanism of driving supernova explosions; 3) that the strong interaction increases the difference in rotation between strange and neutron stars under high temperatures, making the minimum period for strange stars lower than that for neutron stars.  相似文献

In this paper of the series we analyze three stars listed among stars with discrepant v sin i: HD9531 and HD31592, which also show radial velocity variations inherent to spectroscopic binaries, and HD129174 which is an Mn-type star with a possible magnetic field. In HD9531 we confirm the radial velocity derived fromthe hydrogen lines as well as fromthe Ca II line at 3933 Å as variable. The profile of the calcium line also appears variable, and with the estimated magnetic induction Be = ?630 ± 1340 G, this suggests that the abundance of calcium possibly varies over the surface of the star. We identified the lines of the secondary component in the spectrum of HD31592 revealing thus it is an SB2 binary with B9.5V and A0V components. While the primary star rotates with v sin i = 50 km s?1, the secondary star is faster with v sin i = 170 km s?1. We find that only 60% of the Mn lines identified in the spectrum of HD129174 can be fitted with a unique abundance value, whereas the remaining lines are stronger or fainter. We also identified two Xe II lines at 5339.33 Å and 5419.15 Å and estimated their log g f.  相似文献

We present a well behaved class of charged analogue of M.C. Durgapal (J. Phys. A, Math. Gen. 15:2637, 1982) solution. This solution describes charged fluid balls with positively finite central pressure, positively finite central density; their ratio is less than one and causality condition is obeyed at the centre. The outmarch of pressure, density, pressure-density ratio and the adiabatic speed of sound is monotonically decreasing, however, the electric intensity is monotonically increasing in nature. This solution gives us wide range of parameter for every positive value of n for which the solution is well behaved hence, suitable for modeling of super dense stars. Keeping in view of well behaved nature of this solution, one new class of solution is being studied extensively. Moreover, this class of solution gives us wide range of constant K (0≤K≤2.2) for which the solution is well behaved hence, suitable for modeling of super dense stars like strange quark stars, neutron stars and pulsars. For this class of solution the mass of a star is maximized with all degree of suitability, compatible with quark stars, neutron stars and pulsars. By assuming the surface density ρ b =2×1014 g/cm3 (like, Brecher and Capocaso, Nature 259:377, 1976), corresponding to K=0 with X=0..235, the resulting well behaved model has the mass M=4.03M Θ , radius r b =19.53 km and moment of inertia I=1.213×1046 g?cm2; for K=1.5 with X=0.235, the resulting well behaved model has the mass M=4.43M Θ , radius r b =18.04 km and moment of inertia I=1.136×1046 g?cm2; for K=2.2 with X=0.235, the resulting well behaved model has the mass M=4.56M Θ , radius r b =17.30 km and moment of inertia I=1.076×1046 g?cm2. These values of masses and moment of inertia are found to be consistent with the crab pulsars.  相似文献

Based on published sources, we have created a kinematic database on 220 massive (> 10 M ) young Galactic star systems located within ≤3 kpc of the Sun. Out of them, ≈100 objects are spectroscopic binary and multiple star systems whose components are massive OB stars; the remaining objects are massive Hipparcos B stars with parallax errors of no more than 10%. Based on the entire sample, we have constructed the Galactic rotation curve, determined the circular rotation velocity of the solar neighborhood around the Galactic center at R 0 = 8kpc, V 0 = 259±16 km s?1, and obtained the following spiral density wave parameters: the amplitudes of the radial and azimuthal velocity perturbations f R = ?10.8 ± 1.2 km s?1 and f θ = 7.9 ± 1.3 km s?1, respectively; the pitch angle for a two-armed spiral pattern i = ?6.0° ± 0.4°, with the wavelength of the spiral density wave near the Sun being λ = 2.6 ± 0.2 kpc; and the radial phase of the Sun in χ = ?120° ± 4°. We show that such peculiarities of the Gould Belt as the local expansion of the system, the velocity ellipsoid vertex deviation, and the significant additional rotation can be explained in terms of the density wave theory. All these effects decrease noticeably once the influence of the spiral density wave on the velocities of nearby stars has been taken into account. The influence of Gould Belt stars on the Galactic parameter estimates has also been revealed. Eliminating them from the kinematic equations has led to the following new values of the spiral density wave parameters: f θ = 2.9 ± 2.1 km s?1 and χ = ?104° ± 6°.  相似文献

We present the results of our study of the poorly known B[e] star AS 160=IRAS 07370-2438. The high-resolution spectrum obtained with the 6-m BTA telescope exhibits strong emission in the Hα line with a two-component profile, indicating that the gaseous envelope of the star is nonspherical. Previously nonanalyzed photometric data suggest the presence of a compact dust envelope. The fundamental parameters of the star (log L/L = 4.4 ± 0.2, v sin i = 200 km s?1 and its distance (3.5±0.5 kpc) have been determined for the first time and are in agreement with published estimates of the MK spectral type of the object (B1.5 V:). Analysis of the object's properties leads us to suggest that this is a binary system that belongs to our recently identified type of Be stars with warm dust.  相似文献

We report multi-wavelength observations towards IRAS 16547–4247, a luminous infrared source with a bolometric luminosity of 6.2 × 104 L . Dust continuum observations at 1.2-mm indicate that this object is associated with a dust cloud with a size of about 0.4 pc in diameter and a mass of about 1.3 × 103 M . Radio continuum observations show the presence of a triple radio source consisting of a compact central object and two outer lobes, separated by about 0.3 pc, symmetrically located from the central source. Molecular hydrogen line observations show a chain of knots that trace a collimated flow extending over 1.5 pc. We suggest that IRAS 16547–4247 corresponds to a dense massive core which hosts near its central region a high-mass star in an early stage of evolution. This massive YSO is undergoing the ejection of a collimated stellar wind which drives the H2 flow. The radio emission from the lobes arises in shocks resulting from the interaction of the collimated wind with the surrounding medium. We conclude that the thermal jets found in the formation of low-mass stars are also produced in high-mass stars.  相似文献

The constraints on the properties of neutron star matter from the mass of neutron star PSR J1614-2230 are examined in the framework of the relativistic mean field theory. We find that there are little differences between the σ potentials of large mass neutron star and those of canonnical mass neutron star. For potentials of ω, ρ, neutrons and electrons, the values corresponding to the large mass neutron star are larger than those to the canonnical mass neutron star as the baryon number density is more than a certain value. We also find that for the relative particle number density of electrons, muons, neutrons and protons and the pressure of the neutron star, the values corresponding to the large mass neutron star are far larger than those to the canonnical mass neutron star. For the relative particle number density of hyperons Λ, Σ?, Σ0, Σ+ and Ξ?, the values corresponding to the large mass neutron star are far smaller than those to the canonnical mass neutron star. These mean that the larger mass of neutron star is more advantageous to the production of protons but is not advantageous to the production of hyperons.  相似文献

UBV observations of the X-ray binary system A0535+26/V725 Tau at the Crimean Station of the Sternberg Astronomical Institute in 1980–1998 are presented. Based on our and published data, we analyze the photometric history of the star from 1898. Over a period of 100 years, the star apparently showed all three activity phases (B, Be, Be-shell) of Be stars. We conclude that the X-ray activity of the object is attributable to the 1970–1997 outburst of the Be star due to envelope ejection. The star's colors during the minimum light of 1998 and its 1953–1956 colors (before the outburst) correspond to the spectral type B0–B1 at the color excesses E B-V = 0.74 and E U-B = 0.48, in agreement with the current spectral type O9.7. The minimum light of 1998 and the color excesses are used to determine the colors of the additional radiation, analyze their evolution during the 1973–1997 outburst, and refine the distance to the object (3 kpc). The colors of the additional radiation at maximum light of the star (1973–1980) match the colors of a hydrogen plasma with T e = 1.5 × 104 K which is optically thick in the Balmer continuum. The brightness decline corresponds to a decrease in the optical depth of the plasma; at $V \simeq 9_.^m 1$ , it becomes optically thin in the Balmer continuum with T e = 104 K and N e = 1010 ? 1012 cm?3. This conclusion is consistent with the model of a circumstellar envelope but is inconsistent with the existence of an accretion disk around the neutron star. All the additional radiation responsible for the optical variability is produced by a single source. The intensity of the Hα emission line at maximum light (1975–1980) is triple its intensity in 1987–1997, when quasi-periodic light fluctuations with P ≈ 1400d were observed [1]. At this time, the line intensity correlated with brightness. The Hα line was in absorption at the minimum of 1998, and, at present, the star's active phase appears to have ended.  相似文献

We present the results of the spectral and timing analysis of the X-ray pulsar LMC X-4 based on data from the NuSTAR observatory in the broad X-ray energy range 3–79 keV. Along with a detailed analysis of the source’s averaged spectrum, high-precision spectra corresponding to different phases of the neutron star spin cycle have been obtained for the first time. The Comptonization model is shown to describe best the source’s spectrum, and the evolution of its parameters as a function of the pulse phase has been traced. For all spectra (the averaged and phase-resolved ones) in the energy range 5–55 keV we have searched for the cyclotron absorption line. The derived upper limit on the optical depth of the cyclotron line τ ~ 0.15 (3σ) points to the absence of this feature in the given energy range, which provides a constraint on the magnetic field of the neutron star: B <3 × 1011 or >6.5 × 1012 G. The latter constraint is consistent with the magnetic field estimate obtained by analyzing the pulsar’s power spectrum, B ? 3 × 1013 G. Based on our analysis of the phase-resolved spectra, we have determined the delay between the emission peaks and the equivalent width of the fluorescent iron line. This delay depends on the orbital phase and is apparently associated with the travel time of photons between the emitting regions in the vicinity of the neutron star and the region where the flux is reflected (presumably in the inflowing stream or at the place of interaction between the stream and the outer edge of the accretion disk).  相似文献

We present the results of spectroscopic and photometric observations for the B star StHα62 with an IR excess, a post-AGB candidate identified with the IR source IRAS 07171+1823. Observations of 85 gamma bursts by the KONUS instruments on the Venera 11 and Venera 12 spacecraft in the period September 1978 to May 1979 inclusive have provided proof of a galactic localization of the gamma-burst sources based on an analysis of the logN-logS plot and the revealed anisotropy in the angular distribution of sources over the celestial sphere. Evaluation of the energy released in the sources yields 1040–1041 erg. There apparently exist several types of gamma bursts differing in time profile, duration and shape of their energy spectrum. In some cases, extensive evolution of the energy spectrum is observed during a burst. The discovery of a flaring X-ray pulsar in Dorado has provided the first observational evidence for a connection of gamma bursts with neutron stars. Repeated short bursts from this source have revealed for the first time the recurrent features of this phenomenon. Repeated bursts have been detected from one more source in the short burst class. The data obtained thus far impose a number of restrictions on the applicability of many theoretical suggestions concerning the nature of the gamma bursts. The most plausible model for the gamma-burst source appears to be a binary with a neutron star with strongly non-stationary accretion involving, possibly, non-stationary thermonuclear fusion of matter falling onto the surface of a degenerate star.Paper presented at the Symposium on Cosmic Gamma-Ray Bursts, held at Toulouse, France, 26–29 November, 1979.  相似文献

The formation of chemical elements in the envelopes of neutron stars is considered at the densities ?=107 to 1013 g cm?3. It is shown, that the compression of cold and hot matter leads to different chemical compositions. The compression of cold matter is accompanied by a decrease of atomic weightA, up to ?≈3×1012 g cm?3. One may distinguish the following stages during the compression of hot matter: quasi-equilibrium, when there exists both nuclear equilibrium and kinetic equilibrium in β-processes; and limited equilibrium, when the total number of nuclei is constant. It is shown that a nonequilibrium chemical composition may be formed in the envelopes of neutron stars where there is an excess of neutrons in the presence of superheavy nuclei. The nuclear energy, stored in the neutron star envelope may be sufficient to support neutron star luminosity at a level of ~ 1036 erg s?1 over a period of ~ 105 yr. Possible applications to the problem of X-ray sources and pulsars are discussed. The formation of the heavy nuclei in Supernovae explosions is considered briefly. Rough estimates are made for the differences in chemical composition of ejected matter during the explosions of stars of different masses and Supernovae of different types.  相似文献
