Solar radio and microwave sources were observed with the Very Large Array (VLA) and the RATAN-600, providing high spatial resolution at 91 cm (VLA) and detailed spectral and polarization data at microwave wavelengths (1.7 to 20 cm - RATAN). The radio observations have been compared with images from the Soft X-ray Telescope (SXT) aboard theYohkoh satellite and with full-disk phoptospheric magnetic field data from the Kislovodsk Station of the Pulkovo Observatory. The VLA observations at 91 cm show fluctuating nonthermal noise storm sources in the middle corona. The active regions that were responsible for the noise storms generally had weaker microwave emission, fainter thermal soft X-ray emission, as well as less intense coronal magnetic fields than those associated with other active regions on the solar disk. The noise storms did, however, originate in active regions whose magnetic fields and radiation properties were evolving on timescales of days or less. We interpret these noise storms in terms of accelerated particles trapped in radiation belts above or near active regions, forming a decimetric coronal halo. The particles trapped in the radiation belts may be the source of other forms of nonthermal radio emission, while also providing a reservoir from which energetic particles may drain down into lower-lying magnetic structures.Presented at the CESRA-Workshop on Coronal Magnetic Energy Release at Caputh near Potsdam in May 1994.  相似文献

This report summarizes the proceedings of a meeting held on 17–20 September 1974, at Stanford University. The purpose was to explore plasma physics problems which arise in the study of solar physics. Sessions were concerned with specific questions including the following: Is the solar plasma thermal or non-thermal? What spectroscopic data are required? What types of magnetic field structures exist? Do MHD instabilities occur? Do resistive or non-MHD instabilities occur? What mechanisms of particle acceleration have been proposed? What information do we have concerning shock waves? Very few questions were answered categorically but, for each question, there was discussion concerning the observational evidence, theoretical analyses, and existing or potential laboratory and numerical experiments.  相似文献

The D-CIXS X-ray spectrometer on ESA's SMART-1 mission will provide the first global coverage of the lunar surface in X-rays, providing absolute measurements of elemental abundances. The instrument will be able to detect elemental Fe, Mg, Al and Si under normal solar conditions and several other elements during solar flare events. These data will allow for advances in several areas of lunar science, including an improved estimate of the bulk composition of the Moon, detailed observations of the lateral and vertical nature of the crust, chemical observations of the maria, investigations into the lunar regolith, and mapping of potential lunar resources. In combination with information to be obtained by the other instruments on SMART-1 and the data already provided by the Clementine and Lunar Prospector missions, this information will allow for a more detailed look at some of the fundamental questions that remain regarding the origin and evolution of the Moon.  相似文献

In this paper we present the South America VLF NETwork (SAVNET), a new observing facility at very low frequencies. It has been recently installed at different locations spread over Latin America, in Brazil, Peru and Argentina. It consists of a network of seven Very Low Frequency (VLF) receivers with the main scientific objective of monitoring the solar activity on short (minutes to hours) and long (years) time scales. Other objectives include a better understanding of the spatial structure of the South Atlantic Magnetic Anomaly, the study of atmospheric phenomena and the search for genuine seismic-electromagnetic effects. After discussing the scientific goals, the details of the installation are presented as well as the first results recently obtained.  相似文献

Web-based citizen science often involves the classification of image features by large numbers of minimally trained volunteers, such as the identification of lunar impact craters under the Moon Zoo project. Whilst such approaches facilitate the analysis of large image data sets, the inexperience of users and ambiguity in image content can lead to contamination from false positive identifications. We give an approach, using Linear Poisson Models and image template matching, that can quantify levels of false positive contamination in citizen science Moon Zoo crater annotations. Linear Poisson Models are a form of machine learning which supports predictive error modelling and goodness-of-fits, unlike most alternative machine learning methods. The proposed supervised learning system can reduce the variability in crater counts whilst providing predictive error assessments of estimated quantities of remaining true verses false annotations. In an area of research influenced by human subjectivity, the proposed method provides a level of objectivity through the utilisation of image evidence, guided by candidate crater identifications.  相似文献

We have produced a prototype broadband, low-sidelobe conical corrugated feed horn suitable for measurements of the Cosmic Microwave Blackground (CMB) radiation in the frequency band 120–150 GHz. The antenna is a first prototype for the Low Frequency Instrument array in ESA's PLANCK mission, a space project dedicated to CMB anisotropy mesurements in the 30–900 GHz range. We describe the fabrication method, based on silver electro-formation, and present the two-dimensional antenna beam pattern measured at 140 GHz with a milimeter-wave automated scalar test range. The beam has good symmetry in the E and H planes with a far sidelobe level approaching –60 dB at angles 80°. An upper limit to the return loss was measured to be –21 dB.  相似文献

The potentiality of exploring the plasma dynamical behavior of Mercury via energetic neutral atom (ENA) analysis is briefly discussed. The analysis of the Hermean ENA would give clues to the global magnetospheric configuration, clarifying crucial issues like the existence of radiation belts. In order to demonstrate the feasibility of ENA imaging in the Hermean environment, an empirical model of the equatorial proton distributions, originally developed for the Earth's magnetosphere, is here modified in order to be applicable to the expected conditions, according to the present knowledge of the planet. Simulations of the ENA radiation are then presented and discussed. It is shown that the simulated radiation is significantly high, especially when pointing the field of view towards the Hermean surface. The way of determining the proton flux distributions and the cross-tail electric field characteristics by using the ENA signal is discussed. Finally, a preliminary design of an ENA detector suitable for the ESA mission to Mercury ‘BepiColombo’ is proposed and discussed.  相似文献

It is proposed that radiation belts similar to the ones in the planetary magnetosphere can exist for a pulsar with a relatively long period and a strong magnetic field. In the belts located in the closed field line region near the light cylinder relativistic pairs are trapped and maintained at a density substantially higher than the local Goldreich–Julian corotation density. The trapped plasma can be supplied and replenished by either direct injection of relativistic pairs from acceleration of externally supplied particles in a dormant outer gap or in situ ionization of the accreted neutral material in the trapping region. The radiation belts can be disrupted by waves that are excited in the region as the result of plasma instabilities or emitted from the surface due to starquakes or stellar oscillations. The disruption can cause an intermittent particle precipitation towards the star producing radio bursts. It is suggested that such bursts may be seen as rotating radio transients.  相似文献

The High Frequency Instrument (HFI) of Planck is the most sensitive CMB experiment ever planned. Statistical fluctuations (photon noise) of the CMB itself will be the major limitation to the sensitivity of the CMB channels. Higher frequency channels will measure galactic foregrounds. Together with the Low Frequency Instrument, this will make a unique tool to measure the full sky and to separate the various components of its spectrum. Measurement of the polarization of these various components will give a new picture of the CMB. In addition, HFI will provide the scientific community with new full sky maps of intensity and polarization at six frequencies, with unprecedented angular resolution and sensitivity. This paper describes the logics that prevailed to define the HFI and the performances expected from this instrument. It details several features of the HFI design that has not been published up to now.  相似文献

Very Low Frequency (VLF) radio waves propagate through the Earth-ionosphere waveguide. Irregularities caused by excess or deficient extreme ultra-violet and X-rays, which otherwise sustain the ionosphere, change the waveguide properties and hence the signals are modified. We report the results of monitoring of the NWC transmitter (19.8?kHz) by a receiver placed at Khukurdaha (22°27′N, 87°45′E) during the partial solar eclipse (75?%) of 15th January, 2010. The propagation path from the transmitter to the receiver crosses the annular eclipse belt. We got a clear depression in the data during the period of the eclipse. Most interestingly, there was also a X-ray flaring activity in the sun on that day which reached its peak (C-type) right after the time when the eclipse reached its maximum. We saw the effects of the occultation of this flare in our VLF signal since a part of the X-ray active region was clearly blocked by the moon. We quantitatively compared by using analogies with previous observations and found best fitting parameters for the time when the flare was occulted. We then reconstructed the VLF signal in the absence of the occulted flare. To our knowledge, this is the first such incident where the solar flare was observed through lunar occultation and that too during a partial eclipse.  相似文献

Ridge belts, composed of closely spaced individual ridges 5–20 km wide, form sinuous patterns 30–400 km wide and 200–2000 km long in the plains of northern Venus. They are not homogeneously distributed, but occur primarily in two regions: between 0 ° E and 90 ° E ridge belts are associated with large blocks of tessera, and have a cumulative length of about 13,200 km; and between 150 ° E and 250 ° E, the ridge belts form a fan-shaped pattern and have a total cumulative length of about 25,800 km. Most ridge belts trend within 10 ° of N-S. Five morphologic components exist within the ridge belts: (1) broad ridges, which have no sharp crest and usually occur individually in the plains: (2) discontinuous ridges, with short ridge segments less than 20 km long; (3) paired ridges, with closely spaced ridges (less than 10 km apart) that never merge; (4) parallel ridges, with widely spaced (10–50 km), less prominent ridges; and (5) anastomosing ridges, in which ridges splay at angles up to 30 °. Subtle cross-strike lineaments cut the ridge belts at angles of 30–90 ° to the ridge belt, and augen-shaped plains are often present in anastomosing ridges. We examine the relationships between the components, plains, cross-strike lineaments, and augen-shaped plains in five ridge belts. Broad arches similar to the arches associated with wrinkle ridges on the Moon, Mars and Mercury appear in all of the ridge belts examined. Through studying each of these components individually and in the context of five specific ridge belts, we conclude that these ridge belts formed by compressional forces. The ridge belts form a continuum of deformation, from the simple broad arches (Nephele Dorsa), representing small amounts of shortening, through asymmetric ridge belts in the plains (Pandrosa Dorsa) and adjacent to tessera (Kamari Dorsa), to ridge belts in troughs representing underthrusting (Ausra and Lukelong Dorsa). Underthrusting is also observed along the borders of Lakshmi Planum, associated with Freyja and Danu Montes. The interpreted compressional origins for the ridge belt components suggests that many of the other ridge belts are of compressional origin, although complex origins (involving a combination of extension, shear, and/or compression) for some ridge belts cannot be ruled out. Global high resolution data from the Magellan mission will permit global mapping of the characteristics and distribution of ridge belts and allow further tests for their origin and evolution.'Geology and Tectonics of Venus', special issue edited by Alexander T. Basilevsky (USSR Acad. of Sci., Moscow), James W. Head (Brown University, Providence). Gordon H. Pettengill (MIT. Cambridge, Massachusetts) and R. S. Saunders (J.P.L., Pasadena).  相似文献

The University of Chile transit radiotelescope is a 528-dipole array operating at 45 MHz. We present a comparison of an experimental study of the antenna radiation pattern with the basic theoretical pattern in three dimensions. We concentrate in the meridian plane diagram since this is particularly difficult to measure for an array like ours. The comparison shows excellent agreement. We have measured several important antenna parameters like the effective area as a function of zenith distance, the orientation of the plane of the array and the pointing accuracy. We include a detailed treatment of these subjects since not much information related to low frequency arrays for radio astronomy can be found in the literature. We discuss the importance of knowing these parameters in the preparation of the 45-MHz Sky Survey under way at the University of Chile Radio Observatory.  相似文献

Europa and Callisto are two “extreme members” in a sequence of the Galilean ice satellites formed at different distances from Jupiter. The difference in their mean density probably reflects the material density gradient that appeared even in the subplanetary disk of Jupiter. At the same time, general peculiarities in the composition of the surfaces of Europa and Callisto apparently characterize the accumulated effect of all subsequent evolutionary processes, including current volcanic activity on the satellite Io and its ionized material transfer in Jovian magnetosphere, as well as chemical reactions taking place under low-temperature (within ~90–130 K) and irradiation conditions. In 2016–2017, we observed the leading and trailing hemispheres of Europa and Callisto in the spectral range of 1.0–2.5 μm at 2-m telescope of Caucasian Mountain Observatory (CMO) of Sternberg Astronomical Institute (SAI) of Moscow State University (MSU). We found that, on a global scale, Europa and Callisto exhibit similar spectral characteristics and, particularly, the maxima in the distributions of sulfuric acid hydrate in the trailing hemispheres of the both moons, which agrees with the data of previous measurements. This can be considered as evidence for general ion implantation on these and other moons in the radiation belts of Jupiter. Moreover, our spectral data suggest that water ice and hydrates (clathrates) of other compounds are dominant or abundant in the leading hemispheres of Europa and Callisto. Specifically, we detected a weak absorption band of CH4 clathrate centered at ~1.67 μm in the reflectance spectra of the leading (the band is more intense) and trailing (the band is less intense) hemispheres of Europa. Weak signs of the same absorption band are also in the reflectance spectra of Callisto measured at its different orientations.  相似文献

A joint analysis is carried out of data obtained with the help of the solar X-ray SphinX spectrophotometer and the electron and proton satellite telescope STEP-F in May 2009 in the course of the scientific space experiment CORONAS-PHOTON. In order to determine the energies and particle types, in the analysis of spectrophotometer records data are used on the intensities of electrons, protons, and secondary γ-radiation, obtained by the STEP-F telescope, which was located in close proximity to the SphinX spectrophotometer. The identical reaction of both instruments is noted at the intersection of regions of the Brazilian magnetic anomaly and the Earth’s radiation belts. It is shown that large area photodiodes, serving as sensors of the X-ray spectrometer, reliably record electron fluxes of low and intermediate energies, as well as fluxes of the secondary gamma radiation from construction materials of detector modules, the TESIS instrument complex, and the spacecraft itself. The dynamics of electron fluxes, recorded by the SphinX spectrophotometer in the vicinity of a weak geomagnetic storm, supplements the information about the processes of radial diffusion of electrons, which was studied using the STEP-F telescope.  相似文献

The simulation has shown that the regolith layers several hundred meters thick can be formed on the small satellites of planets of Phobos and Deimos type providing that almost all the material lost at meteorite impacts return to the satellite. The existence of a global layer on Deimos that filled the craters for the depth of about 5 m can be explained by the crater presence of diameter of about 4 km and the age of less than 350 Myr on its hemisphere almost unstudied. Dust belts with dust concentration by 3 orders greater than round the Earth can exist in the region of satellite orbits.  相似文献

The helioseismological experiment onboard the CORONAS-PHOTON satellite is intended for the study of characteristics and the internal structure of the Sun using the solar eigenmodes spectrum obtained by the measurement of fluctuations of the solar radiation intensity. This experiment is the continuation of investigations of solar global oscillations started onboard artificial satellites CORONAS-I and CORONAS-F. Measurements of fluctuations of the solar radiation intensity in seven optical ranges—from the near ultraviolet to infrared spectral regions—are carried out by the solar photometer SOKOL (SOlnechnye KOLebaniya (Solar Oscillations)) developed at IZMIRAN. Over an instrument operation period of more than 9 months, a large volume of the scientific information (more than 500 MB) has been obtained. The primary processing of obtained data was performed, and spectra of fluctuations of the solar radiation intensity were constructed. On the basis of part of the processed information obtained by the photometer SOKOL, and data of the experiment DIFOS (Differential Oscillations of the Sun) onboard the artificial satellite CORONAS-F, the dependence of the relative amplitude of oscillations on the wavelength of the observation was determined.  相似文献

Jupiter's radio emissions at frequencies below 300 MHz have never been imaged at high spatial resolution. In this paper we discuss the role of LOFAR to image Jupiter's synchrotron radiation at low frequencies to study the low-energy, barely relativistic, electron population in the planet's radiation belts. Radio spectra of Jupiter's synchrotron radiation have revealed significant modifications over time at frequencies between 100 and 1000 MHz, suggestive of processes such as pitch angle scattering by plasma waves, Coulomb scattering and perhaps energy degradation by dust. With LOFAR we may begin investigating the cause of such variability through its imaging capabilities at frequencies 200 MHz at high angular resolution. In particular, quasi-simultaneous observations with LOFAR and higher frequency arrays, such as the Very Large Array (VLA), may provide the necessary data to identify the cause of such variability, which is tightly coupled to the origin and mode of transport (including source/loss terms) of the high-energy electrons in Jupiter's inner radiation belts.  相似文献

GRACE重力计划在揭示地球系统质量重新分布中的应用   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
2002年3月成功发射的美德合作卫星重力计划GRACE(Gravity Recovery And ClimateExperiment),即将提供空间分辨率约为200 km而时间分辨率为1个月的时变地球重力场模型序列。
