The interaction of a plane-parallel hypersonic stellar wind with a globule in an Hii region is considered in two approximations. In both approximations, the ionization front on the globule remains strong-D type, and a flow pattern containing two oppositely facing shock waves results. In the first approximation, the structure of the shocked region is calculated assuming that globule gas and stellar wind gas mix well and move at the same velocity. However, this assumption results in a very thick shocked layer and the assumption of good mixing is consequently not well justified. This approximation provides an upper limit on the gas velocities expected in the shocked gas which originated at the globule. In the second approximation, the stellar wind merely applies pressure to balance the momentum flux in the globule gas. The structure of the shocked region is calculated on the assumption that a tangential discontinuity exists between shocked stellar wind and shocked glubule gas. Structures may be produced having velocities ~10 km s?1 and emission measures ~103 cm?6 pc with reasonable stellar luminosities and mass loss rates.  相似文献

星系中心黑洞质量和核球恒星速度弥散度的紧密关系揭示出准确测量恒星速度弥散度对测定星系中心黑洞质量尤为重要.文中提供了一种利用SDSS(Sloan Digital SkySurvey)光谱测定速度弥散度及其不确定性的方法.通过对像素空间包含显著特征吸收线的4个不同谱区的拟合,得到准确测量恒星速度弥散度σ的光谱区域.文中4个拟合波段主要包含的吸收线为CaⅡK,MgⅠb三重线(波长5167.5,5172.7,5183.6(?))和CaT(CaⅡ三重线,波长8498.0,8542.1,8662.1(?)).不同区域结果表明,MgⅠb区由于受到铁族发射线影响,拟合的σ值偏低;CaⅡK线区谱线强度很弱,易受限于最小二乘法搜索算法;CaT+CaⅡK联合区得出的速度弥散度和只计算CaT区域的结果相当.利用该方法,测试了一个红移小于0.05的赛弗特星系样本,发现CaT区是测速度弥散度的最佳谱区.  相似文献

The structure and kinematics of ionized supershells in the star-forming region in the BCD galaxy VII Zw 403 (UGC 6456) are analyzed using observations with the SCORPIO focal reducer on the 6-m Special Astrophysical Observatory telescope in three modes: direct imaging (in the Hα, [O III], and [S II] lines), long-slit spectroscopy, and spectroscopy with a scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer. In addition to the previously known bright H II regions and the faint giant ring that surrounds the entire starforming region, many new faint diffuse and arc structures have been detected. A fine structure of the giant ring has been revealed. We do not confirm the previously detected expansion of the bright shells around young stellar associations with a velocity of 50–70 km s?1. We have estimated their expansion velocities to be no higher than 15–20 km s?1; the corresponding kinematic age, no younger than 3–4 Myr, agrees well with the age of the compact OB associations associated with them. We correlate the faint extended filamentary and diffuse regions of ionized gas identified almost in the entire central region of the galaxy and the giant H II ring with the older (10 Myr) stellar population of the most recent starburst. Weak high-velocity [O III] and Hα line wings (up to 300 km s?1 from the line center) have been detected in the brightest H II region. Such velocities have been observed in the galaxy for the first time. The previously published Hα luminosity measurements for the galaxy are refined.  相似文献

We present a new survey for Hα emission objects in the Circinus cloud complex and introduce an efficient photometric method for detecting Hα emission via observations in a narrow‐band filter. The observed flux is compared to a blackbody fit of the continuum. Our search strategy reveals 20 stars with strong Hα emission (EW > 10 Å), eight of them being new detections. All Hα stars display infrared excess corroborating their youth. On the other hand, the region contains a number of infrared excess objects that do not show Hα emission. Our results support the picture that accretion – as witnessed by Hα emission – is a highly variable phenomenon. Therefore, Hα surveys can only trace the temporarily active objects. In contrast, infrared excess is a more robust tracer that reveals most of the population of young stellar objects in a star forming region. Our analysis of the general stellar content of the region yields a reliable distance of 450 pc for the Circinus cloud. Moreover, we find a ratio of total‐to‐selective extinction of RV = 2.8 suggesting that smaller‐than‐normal dust grains may be present. (© 2013 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

We analyze new optical spectroscopic observations obtained at the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences with the SCORPIO focal reducer (in the modes of a Fabry–Perot interferometer (FPI) and long-slit spectroscopy) and the Multi-Pupil Fiber Spectrograph for the galaxy IC 883. We have confirmed that the main body of the galaxy rotates around its minor axis. The positions of the dynamical axes of the stellar and gaseous components have been found to differ by ~10°. The velocities in the SE tail do not correspond to the circular rotation around the galaxy’s minor axis. This structure is probably a fragment of an unwound curved spiral arm. Regions with high velocity dispersions and peculiarities in the velocity fields have been found along the minor axis. Our study of the age and metallicity of the galaxy’s stellar population has shown that the mean values of these parameters in the stellar disk, except for the central region (r ≤ 5?), are ≈1 Gyr and ≈?0.4 dex, respectively. Both young (2?5 × 108 yr) and old (5?10 × 109 yr) stellar populations are present in the circumnuclear region. Our analysis of the spectroscopic data for the bright feature 8? south of the nucleus coincident in position with a compact X-ray source has shown that this is apparently a dwarf galaxy or a remnant of a companion galaxy. Our FPI observations in the Hα emission line and direct images have revealed a region of ionized gas that together with the already known structures along the minor axis forms a clumpy tidal structure of ionized gas pulled from the companion galaxy. The results of our study confirm the previously proposed hypothesis that the observed peculiar structures were formed by the merger of two galaxies. However, it can be said that IC 883 does not belong to the class of polar-ring galaxies.  相似文献

Along with the considerations of the effect of constraint of gravitation on the matter loss of stellar wind and the disturbances of the radiation pressure and turbulent pressure on it, by introducing the mechanism of compressible flow, the effect of promotion of the convective region in stellar outer shell on the matter loss of stellar wind is investigated. Hence a new formula of matter loss of stellar wind is established. After this and via the computation of the rate of mass loss of stellar wind in the theoretical model of 3∼5M? stars, the following is revealed. From the main sequence up to the stage of termination of central helium-core burning, the rate of mass loss of stellar wind calculated with the new formula agrees almost completely with that given by the classical formula. But in the TP-AGB stage the stellar model calculated with the new formula of mass loss of stellar wind is not affected by luminosity and gives rise to the persistent and large matter loss of stellar wind. This rather well agrees with the results of actual observations.  相似文献

A list of 289 stellar associations and 47 star complexes has been compiled. This study is based on a photographicUBV photometry carried out with the 3.6 m CFHT by W. L. Freedman and the 2 m Bulgarian telescope. The identification charts of stellar associations and star complexes are presented. The photographs reveal new appearance for associations. They are seen as clustering within the classical OB associations. The boundaries of the associations were delineated using a cluster analysis. The problems related to the age and size distribution of associations are discussed. The stellar associations provide a good observational test for shock wave across the southern spiral arm. The star complexes in the central region and in the southern spiral arm are rich in WR, O and luminous stars and poor in red supergiants while in the outer region is quite contrary. There is a brief discussion whether the different stellar content of star complexes could be explained with radial metal abundance, in M33 or with variations of the luminosity function from one complex to another. M33 is compared with other nearby galaxies.  相似文献

Observations of the stellar content of the bulge of the Milky Way can provide critical guidelines for the interpretation of observations of distant galaxies, in particular for understanding their stellar content and evolution. In this brief overview I will first highlight some recent work directed towards measuring the history of star formation and the chemical composition of the central few parsecs of the Galaxy. These observations point to an episodic history of star formation in the central region with several bursts having occurred over the past few 100 Myr (e.g. Blum et al., 1996b). High resolution spectroscopic observations by Ramírez et al. (1998) of luminous M stars in this region yield a near solar value for [Fe/H] from direct measurements of iron lines. Then I will present some results from an ongoing program by my colleagues and myself the objective of which is the delineation of the star formation and chemical enrichment histories of the central 100 parsecs of the Galaxy, the `inner bulge'. From new photometric data we have concluded that there is a small increase in mean [Fe/H] from Baade's Window to the Galactic Center and deduce a near solar value for stars in the central region. For radial distances greater than 1° from the Galactic Center we fail to find a measurable population of stars that are significantly younger than those in Baade's Window. Within 1° we find a number of luminous M giants that most likely are the result of a star formation episode not more than one or two Gyr ago. Stellar ultraviolet light near 2500 Å is attenuated in the Earth's upper atmosphere due to strong absorption in the Hartley continuum of ozone. The intensity of stars in the Hartley continuum region has been monitored by the University of Wisconsin stellar photometers aboard the OAO-2 satellite during occultation of the star by the Earth's atmosphere. These data have been used to determine the ozone number density profile at the occultation tangent point. The results of approximately 12 stellar occultations, obtained in low latitudes, are presented, giving the nighttime vertical number density profile of ozone in the 60- to 100-km region. The nighttime ozone number density has a bulge in its vertical profile with a peak of 1 to 2×108 cm?3 at approximately 83 km and a minimum near 75 km. The shape of the bulge in the ozone number density profile shows considerable variability with no apparent seasonal or solar cycle change. The ozone profiles obtained during a geomagnetic storm showed little variation at low latitudes.  相似文献

Thermal and vibrational energy losses due to URCA shells in stellar interiors are calculated. Analytic expressions are derived for semidegenerate, relativistic electrons. Results are given for more general cases calculated with a computer. The calculations are carried out for a large number of nuclei that may contribute to URCA energy losses in various stages of stellar evolution. An illustration is given of the cooling and vibrational damping of a white dwarf. For a central Fermi energy 5 MeV, the internal temperature of the star should be reduced to the order of 106 K and the relative vibrational amplitude should be reduced to the order of 10–5 on a time scale of 109 yr. URCA shells are present, the URCA neutrino energy loss dominates in the temperature region up to about 2×109 K.  相似文献

A new stellar library at the near-IR spectral region developed for the empirical calibration of the Ca  ii triplet and stellar population synthesis modelling is presented. The library covers the range λλ 8348–9020 at 1.5-Å (FWHM) spectral resolution, and consists of 706 stars spanning a wide range in atmospheric parameters. We have defined a new set of near-IR indices, CaT*, CaT and PaT, which mostly overcome the limitations of previous definitions, the former being specially suited for the measurement of the Ca  ii triplet strength corrected for the contamination from Paschen lines. We also present a comparative study of the new and the previous Ca indices, as well as the corresponding transformations between the different systems. A thorough analysis of the sources of index errors and the procedure to calculate them is given. Finally, index and error measurements for the whole stellar library are provided together with the final spectra.  相似文献

A new evaluation of chemical evolution coefficients has been made using recent stellar evolution and nucleosynthesis data. The role of the low and intermediate mass stars in galactic nucleosynthesis has been emphasized. A significant amount of4He,12C and neutron-rich species is found to be contributed by these stars. Comparison with observed abundances suggests a primary origin of14N. The simple model of galactic evolution with the new coefficients has been used to derive the ratio of helium to heavy element enrichment in the Galaxy. The new stellar evolution data do not explain the large value of this ratio that has been determined observationally.  相似文献

Two star-formation regions in Auriga are examined. Both regions are embedded in dark clouds and contain stars that are YSO (young stellar objects). The two groups are associated with HH objects and with jets (straight and spiral). 12CO (1–0) observations of the first region (associated with the object CLN70) reveal the presence of red and blue molecular outflows (i.e., a bipolar outflow).  相似文献

The close relation between the mass of the central black hole of galaxy and the stellar velocity dispersion of bulge indicates that it is of especial importance to accurately measure the stellar velocity dispersion for determining the mass of the central black hole of galaxy. A method which uses the spectra of SDSS (Sloan Digital Sky Survey) to measure the velocity dispersion and its uncertainty is provided in this paper. Through fitting four different spectral regions which contain remarkable characteristic absorption lines in pixel space, the spectral regions used to accurately measure the stellar velocity dispersion σ are obtained. In this paper, the absorption lines which are mainly contained in these four fitted bands are Ca II K, Mg I b triplet (with wavelengths of 5 167.5, 5 172.7, 5 183.6 Å) and CaT (Ca II triplet with wavelengths of 8 498.0, 8 542.1, 8 662.1 Å). As indicated by the results in different regions, the values of σ obtained by fitting the Mg I b region are small because this region is affected by the emission lines of iron group; the spectral line in the Ca II K line region is easily restricted to the searching algorithm of least square method because its strength is very weak; the stellar velocity dispersions obtained in the combined region of CaT and Ca II K are equivalent to the results given by calculating only the CaT region. This method is used to test a sample of Seyfert galaxies whose redshifts are less than 0.05. It is found that the CaT region is the best spectral region for measuring the stellar velocity dispersion.  相似文献

It is shown that during contact eclipsing binaries evolution under the influence of stellar wind, magnetic stellar wind and with matter transfer by gas flow, in binary stellar systems there may take place a process of star merger (low mass stars) within 105–107 yr and a fast increase of distance between stars of massive binaries. W UMa-type stars are a finite evolutionary stage of very close and low mass binary pairs. As for contact systems of early spectral types (CE-systems), they are more varied in evolution.  相似文献

New observations of systematic red shifts of transition region and coronal lines obtained with SUMER (Solar Ultraviolet Measurements of Emitted Radiation) on SOHO (the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) are presented. With the extensive wavelength coverage of SUMER it is possible to extend the measurements of the red shifts to much higher temperatures compared to previous instruments. We find lines formed in the upper transition region (e.g. Ov, Sv, and Svi) to be red-shifted similar to lower temperature lines (T ≤ 1.8 x 10-5 K). Even hotter lines such as Ovi, Neviii and Mgx show systematic red shifts on the order of 5 km s-1 in the quiet Sun. This is a new and significant result since previous measurements of the red shifts were less well constrained. The behavior of the red shifts above T = 10-5 K has been somewhat controversial. In some earlier investigations the magnitude of the red shift has been found to increase with temperature, reaching a maximum at T = 10-5 K and then to decrease toward higher temperatures. Thus, our results will put new constraints on theoretical models. The measured shifts are compared to recent observations of red-shifted emission in stellar spectra obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope.  相似文献

Sinusoidal variations in Johnson'sB-band of the flare star EV Lac have been confirmed at its quiet state luminosity. The cycle lengths are more than one hour and less than two hours with amplitudes varying from 0 . m 105 to 0 . m 306. These registered cycles have agreed with cycles detected by Mavridis and Varvoglis (1990) and Mavridis (1990). In the same time, the cycles have confirmed the light variation detection in Johnson'sV-band in the same flare star by Pettersen (1980) with a cyclic period equals about 4 . d 378 and an amplitude of about 0 . m 07. Our net results confirm, to some extent, the presence of active region(s) as an origin of stellar flare phenomenon of UV Ceti type flare stars. We can cautiously say that the solar and stellar flare phenomenon have a similar origin.  相似文献

Using high-resolution spectra, we study 31 yellow supergiants of the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds by the method of atmosphere models. Abundance values of 20 chemical elements are determined. It is shown that ??-elements are in a slight excess and neutron-capture elements have an excess up to 0.60 dex. Approbation of a new technique for the determination of absolute stellar magnitudes of late-type supergiants is performed. The technique is based on the use of the spectroscopic criterion, namely, depth-line ratios for iron. Absolute stellar magnitudes of nine supergiants of the Large Magellanic Cloud are calculated using this technique. A value of the distance modulus of the Large Magellanic Cloud is estimated: m ? M = 18.4 ± 0.3 m .  相似文献

The case of an aligned rotator magnetosphere is considered. Provided the ions ejection from the neutron stellar surface is absent, the pulsar magnetosphere consists of two polar electron caps. The upper parts of the caps are unstable. Electrons precipitate from these parts, fall onto the star and are accelerated to Lorentz-factor 106–107. Electrons radiate -quanta in the direction of the star. These -quanta are converted into electron-positron pairs. The region of size, about 10 stellar radii, around the star appears to be filled with electron-positron plasma. The inflow of electron-positron plasma interacts with the electron gas of the polar cap. For this reason longitudinal plasma vibrations arise, and bunched outflows of electron-positron plasma appear.  相似文献

Narrow-Line Seyfert 1s (NLS1s) are generally considered to be ‘strange’ Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs). Surprisingly, this makes them very useful for constraining models. I discuss what happens when one attempts to qualitatively fit the NLS1 phenomenon using the stellar wind model for AGN line emission [e.g., Kazanas, ApJ (1989) 74]. The simplest way of narrowing profile bases of this model to the widths observed in NLS1s is probably to lower the mass of the supermassive black hole. In a flux-limited and redshift-limited data set, this is indeed similar to increasing L/LEdd. Because the broad line region (BLR) of the stellar line emission model scales with the tidal radius of the stars, this model predicts maximal BLR velocities of FWZI∝(L/LEdd)−1/3. This implies that the black holes of NLS1s are approximately 33=27 times less massive than those in other Seyfert 1s if the stellar line emission model is correct. Another consequence of increasing L/LEdd in this model is that it results in an increase in the wind edge densities. NLS1 spectra appear to support this result as well. Even the collateral features of NLS1s, such as the line asymmetries and continuum properties, appear to be easily explained within the context of this model. For better or worse, if the stellar wind line emission is correct, NLS1s are not much stranger than other AGNs.  相似文献
