A refined classification of motion for the planar three-body problem with zero total energy is presented. In addition, the structure and size of the sets of initial conditions are obtained. Limited results for the spatial problem are also given.Proceedings of the Sixth Conference on Mathematical Methods in Celestial Mechanics held at Oberwolfach (West Germany) from 14 to 19 August, 1978.Supported in part by the Natural Science Fund and the University Research Council of Vanderbilt University.  相似文献

This paper concerns the dynamics of a rigid body of finite extent moving under the influence of a central gravitational field. A principal motivation behind this paper is to reveal the hamiltonian structure of the n-body problem for masses of finite extent and to understand the approximation inherent to modeling the system as the motion of point masses. To this end, explicit account is taken of effects arising because of the finite extent of the moving body. In the spirit of Arnold and Smale, exact models of spin-orbit coupling are formulated, with particular attention given to the underlying Lie group framework. Hamiltonian structures associated with such models are carefully constructed and shown to benon-canonical. Special motions, namely relative equilibria, are investigated in detail and the notion of anon-great circle relative equilibrium is introduced. Non-great circle motions cannot arise in the point mass model. In our analysis, a variational characterization of relative equilibria is found to be very useful. Thereduced hamiltonian formulation introduced in this paper suggests a systematic approach to approximation of the underlying dynamics based on series expansion of the reduced hamiltonian. The latter part of the paper is concerned with rigorous derivations of nonlinear stability results for certain families of relative equilibria. Here Arnold's energy-Casimir method and Lagrange multiplier methods prove useful. The emergent flux for radiation transfer in an inhomogeneous half-space with internal source is obtained in terms of the source-function of the diffuse reflection problem. Modified Eddington method is used to calculate the diffuse problem and, hence, the emergent flux. Numerical result are given and compared with previous work.On leave of absence from the Nuclear Research Centre, Cairo, Egypt.  相似文献

The continuous spectrum of a 2D magnetostatic equilibrium with y-invariance is derived. It is shown that the continuous spectrum is given by an eigenvalue problem on each magnetic surface and is related to the different behaviour of the equilibrium quantities in different magnetic surfaces. The special case of a uniform poloidal magnetic field in a 1D equilibrium that is stratified with height, has been considered in detail and it is found that there is no continuous spectrum. It is shown that this result relies completely on the artificial property that the behaviour of the equilibrium quantities along a magnetic field line is independent of the field line considered. As a consequence the non-existence of a continuous spectrum in a 1D equilibrium with a uniform magnetic field cannot be used to argue that the continuous spectrum has no physical relevance.Research Assistant of the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research.  相似文献

The luni-solar effects of a geosynchronous artificial satellite orbiting near the critical inclination is investigated. To tackle this four-degrees-of-freedom problem, a preliminary exploration separately analyzing each harmonic formed by a combination of the satellite longitude of the node and the Moon longitude of the node is opportune. This study demonstrates that the dynamics induced by these harmonics does not show resonance phenomena. In a second approach, the number of degrees of freedom is halved by averaging the total Hamiltonian over the two non-resonant angular variables. A semi-numerical method can now be applied as was done when considering solely the inhomogeneity of the geopotential (see Delhaise et Henrard, 1992). Approximate surfaces of section are constructed in the plane of the inclination and argument of perigee. The main effects of the Sun and Moon attractions compared to the terrestrial attraction alone are a strong increase in the amplitude of libration in inclination (from 0.6° to 3.2°) and a decrease of the corresponding libration period (from the order of 200 years to the order of 20 years).Research Assistant for the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research  相似文献

This paper studies the relative orbital motion between arbitrary Keplerian trajectories. A closed-form vectorial solution to the nonlinear initial value problem that models this type of motion with respect to a noninertial reference frame is offered. Without imposing any particular conditions on the leader or the deputy satellites trajectories, exact expressions for the relative law of motion and relative velocity are obtained in a closed form. This solution allows the parameterization of the relative motion manifold and offers new methods to study its geometrical and topological properties. The result presented in this paper opens the way to obtain new classes of approximate solutions to the equations of relative motion with time, an eccentric or true anomaly as independent variables. Taking transfer orbits of a collinear libration point probe, a lunar probe and an interplanetary probe as examples, some applications of stable and unstable invariant manifolds of the restricted three-body problem are discussed. Research shows that transfer energy is not necessarily conserved when invariant manifolds are used. For the cases in which the transfer energy is conserved, the cost is a much longer transfer time.  相似文献

This paper treats analytically the problem of the stability of the attitude motions of a gravity-stabilized gyrostat satellite that is in a circular orbit around a spherical planet. The vehicle considered consists of a body with no special symmetries that has any number of rotors attached to it. The internal angular momentum vector due to these rotors is parallel to one of the principal axes of the entire satellite; this axis is aligned with (or close to) the normal to the orbit plane. Both the cases in which each rotor is driven by a motor at a constant spin rate relative to the main body of the vehicle and the one in which each rotor is rotating freely, without any friction, are treated. Stability (both infinitesimal and in the sense of Liapunov) of the attitude motions of the vehicle can be quickly predicted by using the results derived here, which are summarized in the form of a continuous, three-dimensional, stability diagram.National Research Council Post-Doctoral Research Associate at NASA-Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, Calif. In order to calculate the effects of traversal of interstellar matter on the charge spectrum of the cosmic radiation it is necessary to have values for the fragmentation parameters of nuclei of each element into all lighter elements. Most of these values have not been experimentally determined. As a consequence, they have been calculated from a semi-empirical mass spallation relation designed to fit the available partial cross-sections obtained from radio chemical determinations. This calculation has attempted to take into account the conditions that are peculiar to the cosmic ray problem. Values of the parameters are given for three characteristic energies and a comparison is made with the sparce experimental data. The effects of using these parameters in a calculation of the extrapolation of the charge spectrum through interstellar space are shown for some representative cases. This work was supported by the U.S. Office of Naval Research under Contract No. Nonr 710-60.  相似文献

In this investigation, a procedure is described for extending the application of canonical perturbation theories, which have been applied previously to the study of conservative systems only, to the study of non-conservative dynamical systems. The extension is obtained by imbedding then-dimensional non-conservative motion in a 2n-dimensional space can always be specified in canonical form, and, consequently, the motion can be studied by direct application of any canonical perturbation method. The disadvantage of determining a solution to the 2n-dimensional problem instead of the originaln-dimensional problem is minimized if the canonical transformation theory is used to develop the perturbation solution. As examples to illustrate the application of the method, Duffing's equation, the equation for a linear oscillator with cubic damping and the van der Pol equation are solved using the Lie-Hori perturbation algorithm. This research was supported by the Office of Naval Research under Contract N00014-67-a-0126-0013.  相似文献

The high velocity of the apparent motion of near Earth asteroids (NEAs) is the main problem in their observation. This problem is solved at the Research Institute Nikolaev Astronomical Observatory (RI NAO) with a combined observation method using the time delay and integration mode of a CCD array and a camera rotator. A total of 1317 positions of 74 NEAs were obtained at RI NAO in 2008–2012. All the observations were made using the combined-observation method. The error in observations made at RI NAO is compared with the results that were obtained at other observatories in this work.  相似文献
