The Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment (GOME) is the first of a series of European satellite instruments monitoring global ozone and other relevant trace constituents in the UV/visible spectral range. On 20 April 1995, the European Space Agency (ESA) launched the GOME from Kourou, French Guyana, aboard the second European Remote Sensing satellite (ERS-2). In order to obtain the geometric albedo from the backscattered terrestrial radiance measurements, a solar irradiance measurement sequence in the spectral range between 240 nm and 790 nm is carried out once every day. The GOME solar irradiance is recorded at a moderate spectral resolution (0.2–0.4 nm), thus providing an excellent opportunity to contribute to the long-term investigation of solar flux variation associated with the 11-year solar activity cycle from space, which started in 1978 with SBUV (Solar Backscatter UV Experiment) observations on Nimbus-7 and covers solar cycles 21 and 22. This paper briefly describes the GOME spectrometer and measurement mode which are relevant to the solar viewing. Preliminary results from the solar irradiance measurements between 1995 and 1997 and comparisons to SSBUV-8 (Shuttle SBUV) in January 1996 are presented. Solar activity indices used as proxies for solar flux variation are often used to find a correlation with observed variation in atmospheric quantities, for instance, total ozone. Initial results from the GOME Mgii (280 nm) and Caii K (393 nm) solar activity index calculation are presented and discussed. The coupling of solar irradiance variability to global change is a current source of scientific and public concern. This study shows that GOME/ERS-2 (1995–2001) and the next generation of European remote sensing instruments, SCIAMACHY and GOME/METOP, have the potential to provide continuity in the measurements of solar irradiance from space well into the next century.  相似文献

Lake Winnipeg, the seventh largest lake in North America, is located at the boundary between the Interior Plains and the Canadian Shield in Manitoba, Canada. Seismic profiles were obtained in Lake Winnipeg on two geoscientific cruises in 1994 and 1996. These data indicate the morphology of the bedrock surface. In most cases, a clear distinction between low relief Paleozoic carbonate rock and high relief Precambrian rock can be made. In northern Lake Winnipeg, the eastern limit of Paleozoic rock is clearly demarcated 30 km west of the previous estimate of its position. In southern Lake Winnipeg, all or most of the Paleozoic sequence terminates at a prominent buried escarpment in the centre of the lake. This indicates that Paleozoic rock on the eastern shore, known from drilling and outcrops, is an outlier. Major moraines are apparent as abrupt, large ridges having a chaotic internal reflection pattern. These include the Pearson Reef Moraine, the George Island Moraine and the offshore extension of The Pas Moraine. Little evidence for extensive or thick till was observed. Instead, fine-grained sediments deposited in glacial Lake Agassiz rest directly on bedrock over most of the lake basin. Hence an episode of erosion to bedrock was associated with glaciation and/or deglaciation. The Agassiz Sequence sediments are well-stratified, drape underlying relief and in some areas are over 100 m thick. In places, stratification in these sediments is disrupted, perhaps by dewatering. Evidence of erosion of Agassiz Sequence sediments by recent currents was observed. The contact between the Agassiz Sequence and the overlying Winnipeg Sequence sediments is a marked angular unconformity. The Agassiz Unconformity indicates up to 10 m of erosion in places. The low-relief character of this unconformity precludes subaerial erosion and the lack of till, moraines, or extensive deformation precludes glacial erosion. Waves appear to be the most likely erosional agent, either in waning Lake Agassiz or early Lake Winnipeg time. Winnipeg Sequence sediments, in places very thin, mantle most of the lakefloor. These sediments were deposited in the present Lake Winnipeg and are faintly stratified to massive and reach about 10 m in thickness in deep water. On the surface of the Winnipeg Sequence, vigorous, episodic currents are thought to contribute to the construction of flow-transverse sand waves as much as 6 m high in a deep, narrow constriction in the lake.  相似文献

Plagioclases, Fe-rich epidotes and garnets coexisting in metamorphic rocks of basaltoid and granitoid substrata have been analyzed by standard microprobe techniques. The results presented are based on 34000 data on plagioclases, nearly 24400 on coexisting epidotes as well as of 5000 garnet data. The chemical variations within the singular plagioclase grain and in the range of a thin section are very comprehensive. Adjoining microfields (10–20 μm distance) exhibit differences in the An-contents between 30 and 80% rel. These observations are valid for nearly 78% of the examined plagioclases. Only in the higher amphibolite facies the An-variations are reduced to an average value of 32% rel. Merely the high temperature plagioclases with a compositional range of An 68-An 79 coexisting with clinopyroxene are largely homogeneous. Their variation is amounting to 6,5% An rel. The epidote chemisms reveal a dependance on both of the different substrata and their oxidation status. The maximum value of the Fe (III) substitution on the M1 position in the epidote structure is reaching 97 molar per cent at the higher oxidized meta-granitoids and merely 87% at the metabasaltoids. The variations of the Fe/Al-proportions in the microfields are amounting to 5–20% as to the granitoid substrata and to 5–47% rel. as to the basaltoid substrata. In both of the substrata the garnets are very rich of almandine (40–70%). Besides variable amounts of grossularite and pyrope components they also contain 10–20% (basaltoids) and 1–20% (granitoids) spessartine. The most significant element variations are observed for the element Mn in garnets of granitoid origin. These variations attain 46% within the garnet grains. Only for the garnets of the basic substrata from the amphibolite facies one can state a homogenization. The reaction inertia in achieving metamorphic equilibrium is demonstrated by a selected metabasite sample of the amphibolite facies. It seems that only at temperature >600°C a homogenization of the plagioclases and garnets is initiated so that at low temperature a thermometry by means of An-contents in the plagioclases or Mn/Fe-relations in the garnets is not possible.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung Druck-Lösungserscheinungen sind nicht auf stylolithische Kontakte beschränkt. Die Mehrzahl der Druck-Lösungsflächen ist glatt und nicht als solche erkennbar. Bei Abwesenheit von Stylolithisierung wird Druck-Lösungsrückstand meistens fälschlich als primäres Sediment angesprochen.Druckgelöstes Material wandert von Becken aus. Auf Schwellen führt es zu erhöhtem Stoffangebot für chemische und organische Ablagerung. Druckunlösliches Material konzentriert sich passiv in den Becken.Die Unterschiede zwischen benachbarten lithologischen Horizonten werden in stratigraphischen Abfolgen während der Diagenese über Druck-Lösungstätigkeit verstärkt. Wechsellagerungen können entstehen, indem relativ reine, fast monomineralische Horizonte (Kalkspat, Dolomit, Quarz) von Druck-Lösung kaum betroffen werden, während etwas mehr verunreinigte Schichten, besonders bei Gegenwart von Tonmineralien, bis auf ihren Lösungsrückstand zusammenschrumpfen können.Die während Faltung und Schieferung fortdauernde Druck-Lösungstätigkeit bewirkt weiteren Gesteinsschwund.Hauptsächlich synsedimentäre Lagerstätten können über Druck-Lösungsvorgänge während Diagenese und Orogenese eine weitere Anreicherung erfahren, indem Wertmineralien im Lösungsrückstand zurückbleiben. Verstärkte Anreicherungen sind in Richtung der Becken und Faltenschenkel zu erwarten.
Pressure solution phenomena are not restricted to stylolitic contacts. The majority of pressure solution planes is smooth and not recognizable as such. Pressure solution residue in the absence of stylolitization is often misinterpreted as a primary sediment.Material dissolved under nonuniform pressure migrates from basins to ridges, where it leads to increased precipitation and organic deposition. The material that is insoluble under unilateral pressure thus becomes more concentrated in the basins.The differences between neighbouring lithological units in stratigraphic series are increased during diagenesis by pressure solution activity. Intercalations may result from relatively pure, almost monomineralic layers (e. g. calcite, dolomite, quartz) remaining relatively unaffected by pressure solution processes, while more impure layers, especially those containing clay minerals, may shrink to its solution residue.During folding and cleavage, continuing pressure solution activity results in further loss of rock matter.Mainly synsedimentary ore deposits may be further concentrated by pressure solution processes, both during diagenesis and orogenesis, leaving valuable minerals as part of the solution residue. Elevated concentrations are to be expected towards the basins and limbs of folds.

Résumé Les phénomènes de dissolution par pression inégale ne sont pas limités aux contacts stylolithiques. La plupart des surfaces de dissolution par pression linéaire est lisse et sans caractères particuliers. En l'absence de stylolithisation, les résidus sont considérés souvent à tort comme des sédiments primaires.Le matériel dissous par pression linéaire migre du centre des bassins vers ses bords; cela conduit à un accroissement des dépÔts chimiques et organiques sur les seuils. Le matériel insoluble se concentre passivement au centre des bassins.Les différences entre horizons lithologiques voisins dans les séries stratigraphiques sont accentuées pendant la diagénèse par l'activité de dissolution par pression inégale. Il peut se former des alternances ou des horizons relativement »purs«, presque monominéraux (calcite, dolomite, quartz), qui ne sont pas touchés par la dissolution par pression inégale, tandis que des couches moins »pures« en raison de la présence en particulier de minéraux argileux, peuvent Être réduites à des résidus de dissolution.L'activité persistante de la dissolution par pression linéaire au cours du plissement et de la schistosité entraÎne une nouvelle diminution de matière dans la roche.Ce sont surtout les gisements synsédimentaires qui peuvent subir un enrichissement supplémentaire pendant la diagénèse et l'orogénèse, puisque ce sont les minéraux de valeur qui s'accumulent dans les résidus de dissolution. Ces enrichissements peuvent Être particulièrement renforcés en direction du centre des bassins et des flancs des plis.

Zusammenfassung Die Schwefelisotopenzusammensetzung von sulfidischen Erzmineralen und Baryten der unterdevonischen schichtgebundenen Bleiglanz-Zinkblende-Baryt-Erzvorkommen des Grazer Paläozoikums (Ostalpen, Österreich) wurde untersucht. Zur Analyse gelangten 64 Proben von etwa 15 Lokalitäten. Die Schwefelisotopenverteilung zeigt Ähnlichkeiten mit anderen an das Devon gebundenen schwerspatführenden Lagerstätten. Die Baryte ergaben 34S-Werte von +23, 1 bis +27, 8, die dem Meerwassersulfat devonischen Alters entsprechen. Die untersuchten Galenite variieren von +2, 4 bis +6, 9 und die Sphalerite von +3, 3 bis +9, 1. Die Werte der Pyrite zeigen einen großen Streubereich (–27, 4 bis +37, 6). Eine massive buntmetallarme Pyritvererzung fällt durch sehr schweren Schwefel auf. Späte Mineralisationsphasen der Sulfide tendieren gleichfalls zur Anreicherung des schweren Schwefels.
The sulphur isotope compositions of 64 samples of sulphide minerals and barites from the strata-bound Lower Devonian ore deposits of the Paleozoic Complex of Graz in the Eastern Alps (Austria) have been investigated. The 34S-values of galenites and sphalerites show only small variations in the range of +2, 4 up to +6, 9 for PbS and +3, 3 up to +9, 1 for ZnS indicating abiogenic origin. Later remobilized sulphide minerals show a tendency to heavier sulphur. The deposition of pyrites is influenced partly by bacteriogenic processes (–27, 4 up to +37, 6). The enrichment of heavier sulphur characterizes massive pyrite mineralisations being poor on base metals. The sulphur isotope compositions of barites (+23, 1 up to 27, 8) correspond to Devonian sea water sulphate. An ore free barite characterized by increased strontium concentration shows heavier sulphur (+29, 6) than barites from ore beds.

Structural formulas were calculated for 8 analysed coexisting biotite-muscovitepairs from granitic rocks. Characteristic components of these structural formulas were plotted against the unit cell dimensions of these micas.In accordance with the results of Gower (1957) the substitution of OH by F in trioctahedral micas was found to reduce c 0 · . However, in contrast to his statements, octahedral alumina was found to reduce c 0 · sin also and to an even larger extent than fluorine. This observation is in agreement with the commonly encountered compacting of the mica structure through replacement of 3 large cations (Fe2+, Mg2+, Mn2+) by two smaller ones (Al3+, Fe3+).Concerning b 0 the combined amounts of octahedral Al and tetrahedral Si cause a reduction of this value, which means indirectly that tetrahedral Al alone would increase b 0.Reductions of b 0 and c 0 · sin by Al in synthetic micas were also found by Crowley and Roy (1964) and Seifert (1966) for the substitution Mg + Si by two Al in trioctahedral micas.In an earlier paper the author (Müller, 1966) has already shown with the same mica samples that the substitutions of M2+ by Al3+ and of OH by F also have the strongest effects of all substitutions on the refractive indices, densities, and specific refractive energies of these micas. Therefore it is evident that the latter effects as well as the changes of lattice constants described in this paper are interrelated.

Strukturelle Analogien zwischen dem beim Experiment auftretenden Schwächeflächen-Netz und gro\tektonischen Lineamenten werden besprochen; die Beziehungen solcher Lineamentmuster zur Lage des gleichalten Pols werden versuchsweise diskutiert.
Summary An experiment with a rotating clay ball is being described. Comparisons between resulting ball-modell-structures and geological lineaments are tried and conclusions are discussed concerning relations between lineament-patterns and former situations of the poles of the Earth.

Summary The annual occurrence of different weather types of Schüepp’s synoptic classification in the Alpine region has significantly changed since the beginning of its recording in 1945. The annual frequency (number of days per year) has shifted towards more convective and less advective weather types. Since 1945 the number of long-lasting convective episodes rose and the number of long-lasting advective episodes lessened. Most of these changes took place in winter. The annual frequencies of weather types and the annual mean of certain local meteorological parameters are significantly correlated. On the large scale there is a strong interdependence between the high pressure weather type and the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) index which is based on the sea-level pressure difference between Portugal and Iceland.
