We used a comparative data set for 25 lakes in Denmark sampled during summer to explore the influence of lake morphometry,
catchment conditions, light availability and nutrient input on lake metabolism. We found that (1) gross primary production
(GPP) and community respiration (R) decline with lake area, water depth and drainage ratio, and increase with algal biomass
(Chl), dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and total phosphorus (TP); (2) all lakes, especially small with less incident light,
and forest lakes with high DOC, have negative net ecosystem production (NEP < 0); (3) daily variability of GPP decreases with
lake area and water depth as a consequence of lower input of nutrients and organic matter per unit water volume; (4) the influence
of benthic processes on free water metabolic measures declines with increasing lake size; and (5) with increasing lake size,
lake metabolism decreases significantly per unit water volume, while depth integrated areal rates remain more constant due
to a combination of increased light and nutrient limitation. Overall, these meta-parameters have as many significant but usually
weaker relationships to whole-lake and benthic metabolism as have TP, Chl and DOC that are directly linked to photosynthesis
and respiration. Combining water depth and Chl to predict GPP, and water depth and DOC to predict R, lead to stronger multiple
regression models accounting for 57–63% of the variability of metabolism among the 25 lakes. It is therefore important to
consider differences in lake morphometry and catchment conditions when comparing metabolic responses of lakes to human impacts. 相似文献

Recently it was proved that the classical formula for computing the geoid to quasigeoid separation (GQS) by the Bouguer gravity anomaly needs a topographic correction. Here we generalize the modelling of the GQS not only to Bouguer types of anomalies, but also to arbitrary reductions of topographic gravity. Of particular interest for practical applications should be isostatic and Helmert types of reductions, which provide smaller and smoother components, more suitable for interpolation and calculation, than the Bouguer reduction. 相似文献

Recently, meteor head echo detections from high powered large aperture radars (HPLA) have brought new measurements to bear
on the study of sporadic interplanetary meteors. These same observations have demonstrated an ability to observe smaller meteoroids
without some of the geometrical restrictions of specular radar techniques. Yet incorporating data from various radar reflection
types and from different radars into a single consistent model has proven challenging. We believe this arises due to poorly
understood radio scattering characteristics of the meteor plasma, especially in light of recent work showing that plasma turbulence
and instability greatly influences meteor trail properties at every stage of evolution. In order to overcome some of the unknown
relationships between meteoroid characteristics (such as mass and velocity) and the resulting head echo radar cross-sections
(RCS), we present our results on meteor plasma simulations of head echo plasmas using particle in cell (PIC) ions, which show
that electric fields strongly influence early stage meteor plasma evolution, by accelerating ions away from the meteoroid
body at speeds as large as several kilometers per second. We also present the results of finite difference time domain electromagnetic
simulations (FDTD), which can calculate the radar cross-section of the simulated meteor plasma electron distributions. These
simulations have shown that the radar cross-section depends in a complex manner on a number of parameters. In this paper we
demonstrate that for a given head echo plasma the RCS as a function of radar frequency peaks at sqrt (2*peak plasma frequency)
and then decays linearly on a dB scale with increasing radar frequency. We also demonstrate that for a fixed radar frequency,
the RCS increases linearly on a dB scale with increasing head echo plasma frequency. These simulations and resulting characterization
of the head echo radar cross-section will both help relate HPLA radar observations to meteoroid properties and aid in determining

In this study, change in rainfall, temperature and river discharge are analysed over the last three decades in Central Vietnam. Trends and rainfall indices are evaluated using non‐parametric tests at different temporal levels. To overcome the sparse locally available network, the high resolution APHRODITE gridded dataset is used in addition to the existing rain gauges. Finally, existing linkages between discharge changes and trends in rainfall and temperature are explored. Results are indicative of an intensification of rainfall (+15%/decade), with more extreme and longer events. A significant increase in winter rainfall and a decrease in consecutive dry days provides strong evidence for a lengthening wet season in Central Vietnam. In addition, trends based on APHRODITE suggest a strong orographic signal in winter and annual trends. These results underline the local variability in the impacts of climatic change at the global scale. Consequently, it is important that change detection investigations are conducted at the local scale. A very weak signal is detected in the trend of minimum temperature (+0.2°C/decade). River discharge trends show an increase in mean discharge (31 to 35%/decade) over the last decades. Between 54 and 74% of this increase is explained by the increase in precipitation. The maximum discharge also responds significantly to precipitation changes leading to a lengthened wet season and an increase in extreme rainfall events. Such trends can be linked with a likely increase in floods in Central Vietnam, which is important for future adaptation planning and management and flood preparedness in the region. To determine how soil frost changes flowpaths of runoff water along a hillslope, a transect consisting of four soil profiles directed towards a small stream in a mature forest stand was investigated at Svartberget, near Vindeln in northern Sweden. Soil temperature, unfrozen water content, groundwater level and snow depth were investigated along the transect, which started at the riparian peat, and extended 30 m upslope into mineral soils. The two, more organic‐rich profiles closest to the stream had higher water retention and wetter autumn conditions than the sandy mineral soils further upslope. The organic content of the soil influenced the variation in frost along the transect. The first winter (1995–96) had abnormally low snow precipitation, which gave a deep frost down to 40–80 cm, whereas the two following winters had frost depths of 5–20 cm. During winter 1995–96, the two organic profiles close to the stream had a shallower frost depth than the mineral soil profile higher upslope, but a considerably larger amount of frozen water. The fraction of water that did not freeze despite several minus degrees in the soil was 5–7 vol.% in the mineral soil and 10–15 vol.% in the organic soil. From the measurements there were no signs of perched water tables during any of the three snowmelt periods, which would have been strong evidence for changed water flowpaths due to soil frost. When shallow soil layers became saturated during snowmelt, especially in 1997 and 1998, it was because of rising groundwater levels. Several rain on frozen ground events during spring 1996 resulted in little runoff, since most of the rain either froze in the soil or filled up the soil water storage. Uranium-lead, Rb-Sr, and Sm-Nd isotopic analyses have been performed on the same whole-rock, mineral, and leachate fractions of the basaltic martian meteorite Zagami to better constrain the U-Pb isotopic systematics of martian materials. Although the Rb-Sr and Sm-Nd systems define concordant crystallization ages of 166 ± 6 Ma and 166 ± 12 Ma, respectively, the U-Pb isotopic system is disturbed. Nevertheless, an age of 156 ± 6 Ma is derived from the 238U-206Pb isotopic system from the purest mineral fractions (maskelynite and pyroxene). The concordance of these three ages suggest that the 238U-206Pb systematics of the purest Zagami mineral fractions have been minimally disturbed by alteration and impact processes, and can therefore be used to constrain the behavior of U and Pb in the Zagami source region. The μ value of the Zagami source region can be estimated, with some confidence from the 238U-206Pb isochron, to be 3.96 ± 0.02. Disturbance of the U-Pb isotopic systems means that this represents a minimum value. The μ value of the Zagami source is significantly lower than the μ values estimated for most basaltic magma sources from Earth and the Moon. This is surprising given the high initial 87Sr/86Sr ratio (0.721566 ± 82) and low initial εNd value (−7.23 ± 0.17) determined for Zagami that indicate that this sample is derived from one of the most highly fractionated reservoirs from any known planetary body. This suggests that Mars is characterized by a low bulk planet U/Pb ratio, a feature that is consistent with its relatively volatile-rich nature.The leachates contain terrestrial common Pb that was probably added to the meteorite during handling, curation, or sawing. The mineral fractions, particularly those with significant amounts of impact melt glass, contain a second contaminant. The presence of this contaminant results in Pb-Pb ages that are older than the crystallization age of Zagami, indicating that the contaminant is characterized by a high 207Pb/206Pb ratio. Such a contaminant could be produced by removal of single-stage Pb from a relatively high μ martian reservoir before ∼1.8 Ga, and therefore could be an ancient manifestation of hydrous alteration of martian surface material. 相似文献
