availability of GPS in urban and indoor environments. This demand calls for enhanced GPS algorithms that accommodate high

services and discusses algorithmic innovations that address challenges posed by urban environments.

Zn-Pb mineralisation in the Silvermines district,Ireland: a product of burial diagenesis 总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
Carbonate-sulphide cement stratigraphic relationships in the host rock and ore have been used to constrain the age of mineralisation at the Silvermines zinc-lead-barium deposit. The base-metal sulphides post-date planar dolomite and replace stylolites. Furthermore, the pre-mineralisation planar dolomites also replace stylolites. These and other diagenetic observations indicate that the base-metal sulphides formed at burial depths greater than 800 m, but probably predate the Variscan deformation (since pressure shadows overgrow base metal sulphides). This indicates that the sulphides are of epigenetic origin, constraining the age of mineralisation to between the late Chadian (347 Ma) and the late Westphalian (307 Ma). However, the most likely age for mineralisation, (based on widespread macro-stylolite development) is Asbian (339 Ma) or younger. No evidence of synsedimentary sulphides (in the form of hydrothermal chimneys, vent faunas, or sulphides intergrown with marine cements) was observed at Silvermines. Mineralised breccias (black matrix breccias), late-stage internal sediments, and dissolution zones within the carbonate cements all appear to be produced by hydrothermal karsting that occurred during the mineralisation process. Fluid inclusion homogenisation temperatures for ore-stage calcites (up to 300 °C) approach the peak temperature estimates derived from regional maturation parameters (270 to 310 °C from conodont alteration indices and vitrinite reflectance). This suggests that homogenisation temperatures represent maximum heating temperatures (probably during Variscan time) rather than mineralisation temperatures.Editorial handling: J. Mengue 相似文献

A series of time-dependent radiative/convective models are presented for the atmosphere of Uranus. The effects of atmospheric dynamics have been omitted from the models. The inclination of the pole of rotation to the pole of the orbit, approximately 90°, produces large seasonal changes in the insolation. Because of the relatively small flow of heat from the interior, these seasonal changes cause the effective temperature, which is about 60°K, to vary through the 84-year orbital period by ~5°K at the poles, ~4°K at ±60° latitude, ~2°K at ±30° latitude, and ~0.5°K at the equator. For a particular latitude, the minimum effective temperature and the maximum convective flow of heat from the interior occur near the end of the period when the sun remains below the horizon during the Uranian day. If the methane mixing ratio is not limited by its saturated vapor pressure (SVP) in the convective region, the maximum convective flow would be a few times the orbital average convective flow and persist for an interval of several years. On the other hand, if the methane mixing ratio is limited by its SVP in the convective regions, the maximum convective flow could be orders of magnitude greater than the orbital average and could persist for less than an hour. If the orbital mean internal heat flow is negligible, the difference in effective temperatures between 30 and 60° latitude would be in the range 2 to 4°K. If the internal heat is taken to be about the maximum allowable and is assumed to be redistributed in the interior in a manner to compensate for the minimum in insolation at low latitudes, the corresponding temperature difference would be in the range to 2°K. In either case, the existing theory of atmospheric dynamics for the outer planets indicates that such large temperature differences will drive large-scale motions which would in turn reduce these temperature differences. 相似文献

The Kristineberg massive sulfide deposit is hosted by metamorphosed volcanic and subvolcanic rocks of the Palaeoproterozoic
Skellefte Group. The deposit consists of: (1) two main massive sulfide horizons, the A-ores and B-ores, which dip steeply
southwards and are separated by 100–150 m; and (2) the Einarsson Zone, a complex interval of Cu–Au-rich ‘stockwork‘ sulfides
and small massive sulfide lenses in altered and deformed rocks near the 1,000 m level. The Einarsson Zone occurs some 20–100 m
south of the B-ores. There are no definite younging indicators in the mine sequence. In many areas of the mine, the original
host rocks are impossible to identify petrographically due to the abundance of secondary minerals such as quartz, chlorite,
muscovite, cordierite, andalusite, phlogopite, pyrite and talc, combined with variably schistose fabrics. Application of immobile-element
methods to 600 recent whole-rock chemical analyses has, however, allowed the original rock types to be identified and correlated.
Rhyolite X lies immediately north of the A-ore, while andesitic to dacitic to rhyodacitic rocks make up the 100–150 m interval
between the A-ore and B-ore, and massive rhyolite A lies immediately south of the B-ore. The felsic rocks are mostly of calc-alkaline
affinity, excluding rhyolite X, which is transitional. The mine porphyry, which lies north of the A-ore and forms the marginal
phase of the synvolcanic Viterliden Intrusive Complex, is compositionally similar to dacite and rhyodacite. Mass changes calculated
for all rock types indicate that most of the volcanic rocks in the mine area are strongly depleted in Na and Ca, and have
gained variable amounts of Mg and Fe, whereas Si changes range from negative to positive. Gains in Fe and changes in Si are
largest within 5–10 m of the massive sulfide lenses. Cordierite-bearing schists of andesitic to felsic compositions that lie
between massive sulfide lenses A and B are not as altered. The Einarsson Zone commonly shows large gains in Fe and Mg, while
Si shows large gains to large losses. Immobile-element ratios indicate that very different secondary assemblages in the mine,
e.g. andalusite–quartz–muscovite and cordierite–chlorite–talc, can be produced from the same precursor volcanic unit, e.g.,
rhyolite. Conversely, the same secondary mineral assemblage can be produced from different rocks, e.g. weakly altered andesite
and strongly altered rhyolite. The common presence of cordierite + andalusite in the mine area, without anthophyllite, is
unusual in the alteration systems of volcanic-hosted massive sulfide deposits, and is proposed to have formed by the metamorphic
reaction of the synvolcanic alteration minerals kaolinite and chlorite to produce cordierite. Where kaolinite was in excess
of chlorite, andalusite was also formed. We propose that highly acidic alteration fluids locally produced high-Al minerals
such as kaolinite that either overprinted, or occurred in place of, a more typical sericite–chlorite–quartz alteration assemblage
that otherwise formed near the massive sulfide lenses. Application of lithogeochemical methods to the altered, deformed and
metamorphosed Kristineberg rocks has identified specific volcanic contacts with massive sulfide potential, and quantified
the effects of synvolcanic hydrothermal alteration. Such an approach can increase the effectiveness of mineral exploration

In a large (8 ha) salt marsh restoration site, we tested the effects of excavating tidal creeks patterned after reference
systems. Our purposes were to enhance understanding of tidal creek networks and to test the need to excavate creeks during
salt marsh restoration. We compared geomorphic changes in areas with and without creek networks (n = 3; each area 1.3 ha)
and monitored creek cross-sectional areas, creek lengths, vertical accretion, and marsh surface elevations for 5 yr that included
multiple sedimentation events. We hypothesized that cells with creeks would develop different marsh surface and creek network
characteristics (i.e., surface elevation change, sedimentation rate, creek cross-sectional area, length, and drainage density).
Marsh surface vertical accretion averaged 1.3 cm yr−1 with large storm inputs, providing the opportunity to assess the response of the drainage network to extreme sedimentation
rates. The constructed creeks initially filled due to high accretion rates but stabilized at cross-sectional areas matching,
or on a trajectory toward, equilibrium values predicted by regional regression equations. Sedimentation on the marsh surface
was greatest in low elevation areas and was not directly influenced by creeks. Time required for cross-sectional area stabilization
ranged from 0 to > 5 yr, depending on creek order. First-order constructed creeks lengthened rapidly (mean rate of 1.3 m yr−1) in areas of low elevation and low vegetation cover. New (volunteer) creeks formed rapidly in cells without creeks in areas
with low elevation, low vegetation cover, and high elevation gradient (mean rate of 6.2 m yr−1). After 5 yr, volunteer creeks were, at most, one-fourth the area of constructed creeks and had not yet reached the upper
marsh plain. In just 4 yr, the site’s drainage density expanded from 0.018 to reference levels of 0.022 m m−2. Pools also formed on the marsh plain due to sediment resuspension associated with wind-driven waves. We conclude that excavated
creeks jump-started the development of drainage density and creek and channel dimensions, and that the tidal prism became
similar to those of the reference site in 4–5 yr. 相似文献

Complexities in the nature of large-scale silicic eruptions and their magmatic systems can be discerned through micro-analytical geochemical studies. We present high-resolution, stratigraphically constrained compositional data on glassy matrix material and feldspar crystals from the initial fall deposits and earliest ignimbrite (base of member A) of the 2.08 Ma, ~?2500 km3 Huckleberry Ridge Tuff (HRT), Yellowstone. We use these data to document the nature of the magmatic system and compositional changes related to the transition from fall to widespread ignimbrite deposition, inferred to mark the onset of caldera collapse. Although major element glass compositions are relatively uniform, trace elements span a large range (e.g. Ba 10–900 ppm, Sr/Rb?=?0.005–0.09), with highly evolved glasses dominating in the fall deposits. Several trace elements (e.g. Ba and light rare earth elements) in the glass samples serve to define statistically significant compositional clustering in the fall deposits and basal ignimbrite. These clusters are inferred to reflect melt compositions controlled by fractional crystallisation processes and are interpreted to represent multiple, discrete melt-dominant domains that were tapped by multiple vents. The onset of widespread ignimbrite deposition is marked by an increase in the number of erupted melt compositional clusters from four in the fall deposits to eight, representing nine melt-dominant domains. There is an absence of geographical variation of glass compositions within the basal ignimbrite, with samples from proximal to distal localities north, west and south of the HRT caldera exhibiting similar variability. Pairing of glass analyses with sanidine major and minor element compositional data suggests that the nine melt compositional domains converged at depth into two compositionally distinct upper-crustal magmatic lineages that were both active during these early stages of the eruption. Our data collectively indicate the evacuation of an exceptionally complex and heterogeneous magma system. The onset of widespread ignimbrite deposition, inferred to relate to caldera collapse, occurred after ~ 50 km3 of magma had been discharged. Although external controls were important as an eruption trigger, depressurisation of the system led to caldera collapse with the eruption of numerous discrete melt-dominant domains. 相似文献

A diffusion model for the propagation of relativistic nuclear cosmic rays in the Galaxy is developed. The model has two nonstandard features: The escape of cosmic-ray particles from the Galaxy is simulated by a term in the diffusion equations, rather than the imposition of boundary conditions on the diffusion solution at the surface of the confinement region. And an age-dependent, locally-averaged effective gas distribution is employed in the diffusion equations. The model simulates free-particle outflow at the Galactic boundary. The model is fit to chemical composition data in the 0.3–5 GeV per nucleon range. It is then consistent with the large-scale Galactic -ray data, radio halo data, energy constraints on the assumed supernova sources, and, when extended to very high energies, cosmic-ray anisotrophy data. From the fit we conclude that the cosmic rays are confined in a large flattened or quasis-pherical halo with a scale height in the range 3–6 kpc and an average Galactic escape time of 108 yr. 相似文献

The rare-earth ions cerium ii, lanthanum ii, dysprosium ii, and additionally zirconium ii and iron ii, are seen as weak emission features in the wings of the solar Ca ii H and K lines. The strength of these emission lines increases on the disk toward the limb. We provide recent high-resolution
observations at disk center and at the limb. The identity of the weak lines is re-worked. We point out the unique role of
eclipse spectra in distinguishing between the photospheric and chromospheric origins of emission lines. It is then demonstrated
from our full disk (Sun-as-a-Star) and center disk archives, 1974 – 2010, that no activity cycle related signal is evident
