Mine water samples collected from different mines of the North Karanpura coalfields were analysed for pH, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids (TDS), total hardness (TH), major anions, cations and trace metals to evaluate mine water geochemistry and assess solute acquisition processes, dissolved fluxes and its suitability for domestic, industrial and irrigation uses. Mine water samples are mildly acidic to alkaline in nature. The TDS ranged from 185 to 1343 mg L?1 with an average of 601 mg L?1. Ca2+ and Mg2+ are the dominant cations, while SO4 2? and HCO3 ? are the dominant anions. A high concentration of SO4 2? and a low HCO3 ?/(HCO3 ? + SO4 2?) ratio (<0.50) in the majority of the water samples suggest that either sulphide oxidation or reactions involving both carbonic acid weathering and sulphide oxidation control solute acquisition processes. The mine water is undersaturated with respect to gypsum, halite, anhydrite, fluorite, aluminium hydroxide, alunite, amorphous silica and oversaturated with respect to goethite, ferrihydrite, quartz. About 40% of the mine water samples are oversaturated with respect to calcite, dolomite and jarosite. The water quality assessment shows that the coal mine water is not suitable for direct use for drinking and domestic purposes and needs treatment before such utilization. TDS, TH, F?, SO4 2?, Fe, Mn, Ni and Al are identified as the major objectionable parameters in these waters for drinking. The coal mine water is of good to suitable category for irrigation use. The mines of North Karanpura coalfield annually discharge 22.35 × 106 m3 of water and 18.50 × 103 tonnes of solute loads into nearby waterways.  相似文献

Aravalli fold belt has witnessed major tectonism resulting in intense deformation and associated mafic magmatism. Recently acquired high resolution aeromagnetic data over central Aravalli fold belt brought out a conspicuous E-W trending magnetic anomaly extending for more than 35 km in length cutting across the whole succession of Aravalli Supergroup. This anomaly on ground is manifested as undeformed basic dyke intruding into metasediments of Aravalli Supergroup. The E-W trend and undeformed nature of these dykes suggest that they represent post Aravalli mafic magmatism which are emplaced sympathetic to the axial plane of F3 folding.  相似文献

The present study reports the analysis of GPS TEC prior to 3 earthquakes (M > 6.0). The earthquakes are: (1) Loyalty Island (22°36′S, 170°54′E) on 19 January 2009 (M = 6.6), (2) Samoa Island (15°29′S, 172°5′W) on 30 August 2009 (M = 6.6), and (3) Tohoku (38°19′N, 142°22′E) on 11 March 2011 (M = 9.0). In an effort to search for a precursory signature we analysed the land and ocean parameters prior to the earthquakes, namely SLHF (Land) and SST (Ocean). The GPS TEC data indicate an anomalous behaviour from 1–13 days prior to earthquakes. The main purpose of this study was to explore and demonstrate the possibility of any changes in TEC, SST, and SLHF before, during and after the earthquakes which occurred near or beneath an ocean. This study may lead to better understanding of response of land, ocean, and ionosphere parameters prior to seismic activities.  相似文献

This article is an attempt to suggest a new approach for eliminating the lengthy process of selecting various parameters for extracting texture features and to quantify the relative importance of the parameters affecting textural classification. A multivariate data analysis technique called ‘conjoint analysis’ has been used in the study to analyse the relative importance of these parameters. Results indicate that the choice of texture feature and window size have higher relative importance in the classification process than quantization level or the choice of image band for extracting texture feature. Results of the classification of an Indian urban environment using spatial property (texture) have also been reported. It was observed that the classification incorporating texture features using grey level co-occurrence matrix and wavelet-based approach improves the overall accuracy in a statistically significant manner in comparison to pure spectral classification.  相似文献

Isotope dilution (ID) is a widely used analytical technique to determine elemental abundance to a high degree of accuracy and precision, using a spiked isotope tracer. This technique also enables efficient correction of the inevitable phenomenon of analytical mass fractionation during mass spectrometric analysis. It is also used to determine stable isotope variations of an element in a sample relative to a reference material, using tracers enriched in two isotopes (popularly known as the double spike method). Isotope dilution data reduction can be performed in Microsoft® Excel™ using different algorithmic approaches. Additional software such as iolite and MATLAB® offer algorithm implementations to perform these calculations. These are however limited to use within particular laboratories/research groups, or either require additional cost-bound software or some degree of knowledge in computer programming languages for use, or all of these. To ease this situation, a graphical user interface-based software is proposed (here named Parmanu-Gunak, meaning Atom-Calculator in Sanskrit text) to invert both single and double spiked isotope data, with the aim of making it a standard tool for ID data reduction. Examples of Nd and Mo isotopes are used to demonstrate the robustness of the program.  相似文献

Late Archaean to Palaeoproterozoic felsic magmatic lithounits exposed in the central part of the Bundelkhand massif have been mapped and their redox series (magnetite vs ilmenite series) evaluated based on magnetic susceptibility (MS) data. The central part of Bundelkhand massif comprises of multiple felsic magmatic pulses (∼2600–2200 Ma), commonly represented by coarse grained granite (CGG-grey granite, CPG-pink granite), medium grained pink granite (MPG), fine grained pink granite (FPG), grey and pink rhyolites and granite porphyry (GP). However, the pink colour of these felsic rocks is the result of hydrothermal fluid-flushing leading to potassic alteration of grey granites. MS values of CGG vary from 0.058 to 14.75×10−3 SI with an average of 6.35×10−3 SI, which mostly represent oxidized type, magnetite series (73%) granites involving infracrustal (igneous) source materials. CPG (av. MS=3.95×10−3 SI) is indeed a pink variety of CGG, the original oxidizing nature of which must have been similar to the bulk of CGG, but has been moderately to strongly reduced because of distinctly more porphyritic nature together with partial assimilation of metapelitic (supracrustal) materials, surmicaceous enclaves, carbonaceous material included in the source materials, and to some extent, induced by hydrothermal and later deformational processes. MPG (av. MS= 1.15×10−3 SI) as lensoidal stock-like bodies intrudes the CPG and represent both magnetite series (18%) and ilmenite series (82%) granites, which are probably formed by heterogeneous (mixed) source rocks. GP (av. MS=6.26×10−3 SI) occur as dykes (mostly trending NE-SW) intrudes the MPG, CPG and migmatites and bears the nature similar to oxidized type, magnetite series granite. FPG (av. MS= 0.666×10−3 SI) trending NE-SW occur as lensoid bodies including a large outcrop, is intrusive into both CPG and MPG, and is moderately to very strongly reduced type, ilmenite series granites, which may be derived by the melting of metapelitic crustal sources. FPG hosting microgranular (mafic magmatic) enclaves commonly exhibit high MS values (7.31–10.22×10−3 SI), which appear induced by the mixing and mingling of interacting felsic and mafic magmas prevailed in an open system. Grey (av. MS=10.30×10−3 SI) and pink (av. MS=6.72×10−3 SI) rhyolites represent oxidized type, magnetite series granites, which may have been derived from infracrustal (magmatic) protoliths. Granite series evaluation of felsic magmatic rocks of central part of Bundelkhand massif strongly suggests their varied redox conditions (differential oxygen fugacity) mostly intrinsic to magma source regions and partially modified by hydrothermal and tectonic processes acting upon them.  相似文献

Land use on earth's landscape primarly indicates the degree of human interferance. Though landuse is controlled by several factors like soil, hydrologic, climatic, socio-economic and political yet geology and geomorphology play an important role in shaping landforms. The landforms processes mainly depend upon inherent lithology and structure of the earth. In the present paper an attempt has been made to study a sample area by air photo-interpretation technique using stereo-models and then evolve a methodology of land use mapping like photogeological and photopedological aspects. Also in brief, environmental aspects have been discussed. A sample area of 15 sq kms has been studied. The study opens up a new dimension for appreciation of resource and landuse management  相似文献

Soil and Soil Conservation surveys for watershed management were conducted using aerial photos of 1:60,000 scale in parts of North Cachar and Karbi-Anglong districts of Assam. The area was divided into different river catchments and sub-watersheds. The erosion, slope, landuse and soils in relation to physiogrphy were studied in each sub-watershed. The different physiographic units identified in the area were high, medium, low and very low hills; pediplains; alluvial plain and the valleys. These units were further subdivided based on slope, landuse and erosion etc. The soils were classified according to Soil Taxonomy. For priority determination, weightage was alloted to each of the sub-watersheds considering their physiography, slope, landuse, erosion, soil texture, depth and delivery ratio and sediment yield was calculated for each subwatershed. It has been found that out of 122875 ha, an area of 1745 ha had very high priority, 30590 ha high, 37290 ha medium, 51957 ha low and 1294 ha very low priority for soil conservation purposes.  相似文献

A time and height dependent eddy diffusion model is used to investigate possible scenarios for the size distribution of dust in the lower atmosphere of Mars. The dust is assumed to either have been advected from a distant source or to have originated locally. In the former case, the atmosphere is assumed to initially contain dust particles with sizes following a modified gamma distribution. Larger particles are deposited relatively rapidly while small particles are well mixed up to the maximum height of the afternoon boundary layer and are deposited more slowly. In other cases, a parameterization of the dust source at the surface is proposed. Model results show that smaller particles are rapidly mixed within the Martian boundary layer, while larger particles (r > 10 μm) are concentrated near the ground with a stronger diurnal cycle. In all simulations we assume that the initial concentration or surface source depend on a modified gamma function distribution. For small particles (cross- sectional area weighted mean radius, reff = 1.6 μm) distributions retain essentially the same form, though with variations in the mean and variance of the area-weighted radius, and the gamma function can be used to represent the particle size distribution reasonably well at most heights within the boundary layer. In the case of a surface source of larger particles (mean radius 50 μm) the modified gamma function does not fit the resulting particle size distribution. All results are normalised by a scaling factor that can be adjusted to correspond to an optical depth for assumed particle optical scattering properties.  相似文献

The prime contribution of this assignment was to examine the hyperspectral remote sensing, based on iron ore minerals identification using spectral angle mapper (SAM) technique. Correlation analyses between field iron contents and environmental variables (soil, water, and vegetation) have been performed. Spectral feature fitting (SFF) and multi-range spectral feature fitting (MRSFF) methods were used for accuracy assessment in extracting iron ore minerals from Hyperion EO-1 data. Spectral inspections as a reference were used in SAM technique for image classification for iron ore minerals: Hematite (24.26%), Goethite (32.98%) and Desert (42.76). Iron ore minerals classification is justified by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) spectral library and field sample points. The regression analysis of USGS and Hyperion reflectance spectra has shown the moderate positive correlation. The regression analyses between iron ore contents and environmental parameters (soil, water, and vegetation) have shown the moderate negative correlation. The examination was significantly effectual in extracting iron ore minerals: Hematite (SFF RMSE?≤?0.51 MRSFF RMSE?≤?0.48), Goethite (SFF RMSE?≤?0.047 MRSFF RMSE?≤?0.438) and Desert (SFF RMSE?≤?0.63 and MRSFF RMSE?≤?0.50); and the MRSFF RMSE histograms indicate the above result likened to a conventional SFF RMSE. MRSFF RMS error result is best because multiple absorption features typically characterize spectral signatures. This analysis demonstrates the potential applicability of the methodology for iron minerals identification framework and iron minerals impact on environmental parameters.  相似文献
