Drexler dark matter is an alternate approach to dark matter that assumes that highly relativistic protons trapped in the halo of the galaxies could account for the missing mass. We look at various energetics involved in such a scenario such as the energy required to produce such particles and the corresponding lifetimes. Also we look at the energy losses from synchrotron and inverse Compton scattering and their signatures. The Coulomb repulsive instability due to the excess charge around the galaxies is also calculated. The above results lead us to conclude that such a model for DM is unfeasible.  相似文献

A background indoor air study has been completed which includes the collection of indoor air samples from office buildings and schools. The anonymous study was designed with input from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. The sampling was implemented in 2013, 2014, and 2015 and included the collection of 25 school building samples and 61 office building samples. The study generated 14,668 new indoor air background data points, with samples collected from buildings located in 26 cities in 18 states, including Arizona, California, Connecticut, Indiana, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, Utah, and Washington. Indoor air background concentrations of target compound volatile organic compounds (VOCs) ranged from less than the laboratory method reporting limit of 0.044 μg/m3 to concentrations up to 1190 μg/m3, with hydrocarbon ranges from less than the reporting method limit of 10 μg/m3 to concentrations up to 3000 μg/m3. Some VOCs were identified ubiquitously in indoor air background, and some were identified at concentrations which exceeded risk-based regulatory screening levels. These study results provide useful and updated information on indoor air background and air quality in offices and schools and can be used in future regulatory guidance update considerations, for further examination of relationships between these data and residential study data, in human health risk assessments and risk communication, and in planning future studies.  相似文献

Celestial objects, from earth like planets to clusters of galaxies, possess angular momentum and magnetic fields. Here we compare the rotational and magnetic energies of a whole range of these celestial objects together with their gravitational self energies and find a number of interesting relationships. The celestial objects, due to their magnetic fields, also posses magnetic moments. The ratio of magnetic moments of these objects with the nuclear magnetic moments also exhibits interesting trends. We also compare their gyromagnetic ratio which appears to fall in a very narrow range for the entire hierarchy of objects. Here we try to understand the physical aspects implied by these observations and the origin of these properties in such a wide range of celestial objects, spanning some twenty orders in mass, magnetic field and other parameters.  相似文献

This paper deals with kinetics and equilibrium studies on the adsorption of arsenic species from simulated groundwater containing arsenic (As(III)/As(V), 1:1), Fe, and Mn in concentrations of 0.188, 2.8, and 0.6 mg/L, respectively, by Ca2+ impregnated granular activated charcoal (GAC‐Ca). Effects of agitation period and initial arsenic concentration on the removal of arsenic species have also been described. Although, most of the arsenic species are adsorbed within 10 h of agitation, equilibrium reaches after ~24 h. Amongst various kinetic models investigated, the pseudo second order model is more adequate to explain the adsorption kinetics and film diffusion is found to be the rate controlling step for the adsorption of arsenic species on GAC‐Ca. Freundlich isotherm is adequate to explain the adsorption equilibrium. However, empirical polynomial isotherm gives more accurate prediction on equilibrium specific uptakes of arsenic species. Maximum specific uptake (qmax) for the adsorption of As(T) as obtained from Langmuir isotherm is 135 µg/g.  相似文献

To date, nonlinear dynamic analysis for seismic engineering predominantly employs the classical Rayleigh damping model and its variations. Though earlier studies have identified issues with the use of this model in nonlinear seismic analysis, it still remains the popular choice for engineers as well as for software providers. In this paper a new approach to modelling damping is initiated by formulating the damping matrix at an elemental level. To this regard, two new elemental level discrete damping models adapted from their global counterparts are proposed for its application in nonlinear dynamic analysis. Implementation schemes for these newly proposed models using Newmark incremental method and revised Newmark total equilibrium method is outlined. The performance of these proposed models, compared to existing models, is illustrated by conducting nonlinear dynamic analyses on a four story RC frame designed to Eurocodes. The incremental dynamic analysis study presented in the paper illustrates the fact that both the proposed models seem to produce more reliable results from an engineering perspective in comparison to the global models. It is also shown that the proposed elemental damping models lead to smaller and more realistic damping moments in the plastic hinges. Furthermore, these models could be easily included in existing software frameworks without adding noticeably to the computational effort. The computation time required for these models is approximately equivalent to the one required when using the tangent Rayleigh damping matrix with constant coefficients.  相似文献

Annual Cyclic Variations (ACV) in the Total Ozone Column (TOC) were estimated in latitudinally averaged Multi Sensor Reanalysis (MSR) monthly mean TOC time-series data-set from Jan 1979 to Dec 2008 for Indian region. The TOC contents over any latitude is controlled by the photochemistry and dynamics present in different regions of the stratosphere and troposphere, correlation between ACV in TOC, and ACV in other climatic and dynamical factors—(i) Solar Insolation on a horizontal surface at the top of the atmosphere (ETSI); (ii) Zonal Wind at 30 hPa pressure level (ZW); (iii) Meridional Wind at 30 hPa pressure level (MW); and (iv) Air Temperature at 30 hPa pressure level (AT)—were taken into account to understand their role in the annual cyclic variability present in the TOC over Indian region. Contributions of ACV present in these climatic and dynamical factors to the ACV in TOC were ascertained by performing a multiple linear regression analysis by taking ACV in ETSI, ACV in ZW and ACV in AT as independent variables (co-variates) for ACV in TOC. It is concluded that in the tropical part of Indian region ACV in TOC is largely controlled by the photochemistry; whereas in the subtropical part of the region, the dynamics present in the stratosphere mainly decides ACV in TOC.  相似文献

The evolution of El Ni?o-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) variability can be characterized by various ocean–atmosphere feedbacks, for example, the influence of ENSO related sea surface temperature (SST) variability on the low-level wind and surface heat fluxes in the equatorial tropical Pacific, which in turn affects the evolution of the SST. An analysis of these feedbacks requires physically consistent observational data sets. Availability of various reanalysis data sets produced during the last 15?years provides such an opportunity. A consolidated estimate of ocean surface fluxes based on multiple reanalyses also helps understand biases in ENSO predictions and simulations from climate models. In this paper, the intensity and the spatial structure of ocean–atmosphere feedback terms (precipitation, surface wind stress, and ocean surface heat flux) associated with ENSO are evaluated for six different reanalysis products. The analysis provides an estimate for the feedback terms that could be used for model validation studies. The analysis includes the robustness of the estimate across different reanalyses. Results show that one of the “coupled” reanalysis among the six investigated is closer to the ensemble mean of the results, suggesting that the coupled data assimilation may have the potential to better capture the overall atmosphere–ocean feedback processes associated with ENSO than the uncoupled ones.  相似文献

The Archaean cratonic nuclei of the continents are important as they contain the most significant evidences for the evolution of Earth e.g. the greenstone sequences. In the Indian Shield, one of the important cratons is the Singhbhum craton, where nearly 95% of the Indian chromite deposits and only PGE deposits are located which are hosted within Mesoarchaean ultramafic-mafic rock sequences. The ultramafic units occur as sill like intrusions within the Iron Ore Group (IOG) greenstone belts and often associated with gabbroic intrusions. In the Nuasahi and Sukinda mining districts of these occurrences, detailed petrological, geochemical and isotopic studies have been carried out in the last decades. Petrological and geochemical studies indicate a supra-subduction zone (SSZ) tectonic settings in Archaean for the origin of these ultramafic-mafic sequences. The Os isotopic and platinum group element (PGE) geochemical studies of chromites from the two mining districts indicate presence of a subchondritic source mantle domain beneath and within the Singhbhum craton similar to the Zimbabwean craton of southern African continent. The Os model age calculation indicates melt extraction from a subcontinental lithospheric mantle (SCLM) before 3.7 Ga which is similar to the other ancient cratons. As a whole the study supports the premise that India was part of the African continent in pre-Gondwana times and even in early Archaean and suggest possible amalgamation and building up of a supercontinent during late Archaean. However, in comparison with other occurrences, the Singhbhum craton of the Indian Shield and the Zimbabwean craton in southern Africa are characterized by the presence of subchondritic lithospheric mantle domains within the SCLM, which were developed prior to 3.7 Ga.  相似文献
