Recent advances in the chronology and the palaeoclimatic understanding of Antarctic ice core records point towards a larger heterogeneity of latitudinal climate fluctuations than previously thought. Thus, realistic palaeoclimate reconstructions rely in the development of a tight array of well‐constrained records with a dense latitudinal coverage. Climatic records from southernmost South America are critical cornerstones to link these Antarctic palaeoclimatic archives with their South American counterparts. At 54° S on the Island of Tierra del Fuego, Lago Fagnano is located in one of the most substantially and extensively glaciated regions of southernmost South America during the Late Pleistocene. This elongated lake is the largest (~110 km long) and non‐ice covered lake at high southern latitudes. A multi‐proxy study of selected cores allows the characterisation of a Holocene sedimentary record. Detailed petrophysical, sedimentological and geochemical studies of a complete lacustrine laminated sequence reveal variations in major and trace elements, as well as organic content, suggesting high variability in environmental conditions. Comparison of these results with other regional records allows the identification of major known late Holocene climatic intervals and the proposal for a time for the onset of the Southern Westerlies in Tierra del Fuego. Although major crustal lineaments may play an important role in mineralisation, the relationship between lineaments and mineral deposits can be quite cryptic, and structural controls may vary as a function of scale along lineaments. Major lineaments alone may be of limited use for detailed target generation. The Cloncurry Lineament in the Eastern part of the Mount Isa Inlier is a crustal scale structure defined by potential field-derived ‘worms’. Weights-of-evidence quantifies the association between mineral occurrences and this lineament. Autocorrelation is used to recognise structural controls on mineralisation at different scales, by progressively limiting the lengths of the vectors between mineral occurrence points in the autocorrelation plot. The weights-of-evidence analysis shows that Au, Au–Cu, Cu–Au and Cu deposits have a positive spatial correlation to the Cloncurry Lineament, which suggests it that acted as a primary crustal scale control on the localisation of Cu and Au through focussing mineralisation systems on a broad scale. However, autocorrelation defines a variety of local structural controls, which can be interpreted as shear zones, variably oriented fault sets, en echelon fault arrays, and potentially the orientation of bedding and/or iron formations which localise fluid flow and mineral deposition at finer scales. The results suggest that major lineaments defined by geophysical contrasts can be used in conjunction with techniques of spatial analysis for targeting structurally controlled mineralisation in areas under thin cover adjacent to mineralised terrains such as the Mt Isa Inlier.  相似文献

Quantification of the spatial impact of climate on crop productivity and the potential value of seasonal climate forecasts can effectively assist the strategic planning of crop layout and help to understand to what extent climate risk can be managed through responsive management strategies at a regional level. A simulation study was carried out to assess the climate impact on the performance of a dryland wheat-fallow system and the potential value of seasonal climate forecasts in nitrogen management in the Murray-Darling Basin (MDB) of Australia. Daily climate data (1889–2002) from 57 stations were used with the agricultural systems simulator (APSIM) to simulate wheat productivity and nitrogen requirement as affected by climate. On a good soil, simulated grain yield ranged from <2 t/ha in west inland to >7 t/ha in the east border regions. Optimal nitrogen rates ranged from <60 kgN/ha/yr to >200 kgN/ha/yr. Simulated gross margin was in the range of –$20/ha to $700/ha, increasing eastwards. Wheat yield was closely related to rainfall in the growing season and the stored soil moisture at sowing time. The impact of stored soil moisture increased from southwest to northeast. Simulated annual deep drainage ranged from zero in western inland to >200 mm in the east. Nitrogen management, optimised based on ‘perfect’ knowledge of daily weather in the coming season, could add value of $26~$79/ha compared to management optimised based on historical climate, with the maximum occurring in central to western part of MDB. It would also reduce the nitrogen application by 5~25 kgN/ha in the main cropping areas. Comparison of simulation results with the current land use mapping in MDB revealed that the western boundary of the current cropping zone approximated the isolines of 160 mm of growing season rainfall, 2.5t/ha of wheat grain yield, and $150/ha of gross margin in QLD and NSW. In VIC and SA, the 160-mm isohyets corresponded relatively lower simulated yield due to less stored soil water. Impacts of other factors like soil types were also discussed.  相似文献

From Oct., 1999 to Oct., 2000, the heterotrophic bacterial flora in the aquaculture area around Xuejiadao was investigated. The result shows that the populations of the heterotrophic bacteria are heavier in summer and autumn than those in winter and spring. The average populations in seawater, sediment, the surface of seaweed and the surface of fish are 1.4×104cfu mL−1, 5.4×106cfu g−1, 1.5×106cfu g−1 and 1.8×103cfu cm−2, respectively. A total of 301 strains were isolated, among them 259 were Gram-negative. All the Gram-negative bacteria belong to 13 genera and some genera of Enterobacteriaceae. The communities of bacteria are slightly different among the samples. In the body surface of fish, Genus vibrio is dominant. In the remaining samples, dominant genus is Aeromonas.  相似文献

Formerly the world's fourth largest lake by area, the Aral Sea is presently undergoing extreme desiccation due to large-scale irrigation strategies implemented in the Soviet era. As part of the INTAS-funded CLIMAN project into Holocene climatic variability and the evolution of human settlement in the Aral Sea basin, fossil diatom assemblages contained within a sediment core obtained from the Aral Sea have been applied to a diatom-based inference model of conductivity (r2 = 0.767, RMSEP = 0.469 log10 μS cm 1). This has provided a high-resolution record of conductivity and lake level change over the last ca. 1600 yr. Three severe episodes of lake level regression are indicated at ca. AD 400, AD 1195–1355 and ca. AD 1780 to the present day. The first two regressions may be linked to the natural diversion of the Amu Darya away from the Aral Sea and the failure of cyclones formed in the Mediterranean to penetrate more continental regions. Human activity, however, and in particular the destruction of irrigation facilities are synchronous with these early regressions and contributed to the severity of the observed low stands.  相似文献

Examination of two radiocarbon-dated vibrocores taken from south of St Kilda at a water depth of about 155 m, a short distance within the maximum position of the Late Devensian (Dimlington Stadial) ice sheet, suggests that the St Kilda Basin became free of glacier ice after 15250 yr BP. Sedimentation in a shallow, low energy, high arctic, muddy environment continued until after 13500 yr BP. There followed a higher energy temperate episode during which water depths were roughly about 40 m: this is correlated with the latter part of the Windermere Interstadial and with the warmer interval known in shallow Scottish seas about or a little before 11 000 yr BP. The Loch Lomond (Younger Dryas) Stadial is marked in the vibrocores by the return of muddy sediments and a cold-water fauna. Relatively shallow water conditions seem to have persisted into the earliest Flandrian, when the water depth was still roughly 60 m, corresponding to a sea-level in the area 90–100 m below present. It is suggested that pack ice was widespread in the northeast Atlantic before the Windermere Interstadial and also during the Loch Lomond Stadial, when it transported shards of Icelandic volcanic ash into the St Kilda basin. Estimates of sea-surface temperature for the last part of the Windermere Interstadial are close to those derived from the deep-sea record for the same period.  相似文献

Terminal oxidation of plant carbohydrates has been compared in Southampton Water and in the Vellar Estuary on the south-east Indian coast. Rates of glucose breakdown are higher in temperate than in tropical waters. The high rates of bacterial activity in Southampton Water may be due to urban bacterial pollution.  相似文献

Study of the Cretaceous strata of the Altos Cuchumatanes (western Guatemala) and in Alta Verapáz (central Guatemala) has revealed a number of foraminifers never before reported from these areas. These data permit a similar nomenclature to be applied to both areas in regard to the division of the sequence into formations. Thus, we distinguish in both areas: a) the Cobán Formation, a shallow platform carbonate of early Aptian to early Senonian age; b) the Campur Formation, of Campanian age, composed of a lower carbonate member with rudists and large benthonic foraminifers, and an upper carbonate member with pelagic foraminifers; c) the Sepur Formation, of Maastrichtian age, with flysch-like sediments, including intercalated blocks of ophiolite complex obducted during the Maastrichtian. We conclude that in early Aptian time, a shallow carbonate platform developed along the southern margin of the Maya Block. The platform subsided and was drowned during the terminal Campanian. This subsidence led to the formation of a flysch-like basin that received turbiditic sedimentation from the carbonate platform to the north and fragments of serpentinite from the ophiolite complex to the south.  相似文献

Summary Curves, based on measured total (direct plus sky) solar radiation data for several stations in the Union of South Africa, are presented which enable the hourly distribution of total solar radiation on a horizontal surface to be determined for any locality, and any time of year on a long-term basis. In addition a graph is given showing the fraction of the daily total radiation which is received between stated hours, together with curves for four stations for estimating the difference between morning and afternoon total radiation for hour-pairs symmetrical about noon.Although based on South African solar radiation data, the curves are presented in a form convenient for use, as a first approximation, for localities anywhere in the world, and for any time of year. They are applicable for long-term averages as well as for cloudless days.
Zusammenfassung Es werden Kurven der Globalstrahlung von Sonne und Himmel abgeleitet, die auf langjährigen Meßwerten für gewisse Stationen in der Südafrikanischen Union beruhen und gestatten, die stündliche Verteilung der Globalstrahlung auf Horizontalfläche für einen beliebigen Ort und für jede Jahreszeit zu bestimmen. In einem Diagramm wird gezeigt, welcher Anteil der täglichen Strahlungssumme zwischen bestimmten Stunden einfällt, außerdem werden Kurven für vier Stationen aufgestellt, um den Unterschied zwischen Vormittags- und Nachmittags-Globalstrahlung für zum wahren Mittag symmetrisch gelegene Stundenpaare zu untersuchen. Obgleich diese Kurven auf südafrikanischen Strahlungsmessungen basieren, ermöglicht ihre Form in erster Annäherung auch die Anwendung auf beliebige Orte der Erde und auf alle Jahreszeiten; sie können sowohl auf langjährige Mittelwerte wie auch auf wolkenlose Tage Anwendung finden.

Résumé A partir des moyennes de mesures portant sur un certain nombre d'années de plusieurs stations de l'Union Sud-Africaine, l'auteur déduit des courbes qui permettent de déterminer la répartition horaire du rayonnement global du soleil et du ciel sur une surface horizontale pour un lieu donné et pour chaque saison. Un diagramme indique quelle est la proportion de la somme diurne du rayonnement entre des heures déterminées. D'autre part il construit des courbes pour quatre stations afin d'examiner la différence entre la rayonnement global du matin et de l'après-midi et cela pour des couples d'heures situées symétriquement par rapport au midi vrai. Bien que ces courbes aient été faites à partir de mesures du rayonnement en Afrique du Sud, à première approximation leur forme permet de les employer également dans d'autres régions de la Terre et pour toutes les saisons. Elles peuvent être utilisées aussi bien pour des moyennes portant sur de nombreuses années que pour les jours sans nuages.
