More than 400 km of high-resolution, partially digitally acquired seismic data were collected in a 30 × 60 km area offshore from the Dutch mesotidal barrier island shoreline, in order to analyze the Holocene transgressive sequence.

The investigated area was subaerially exposed during the most recent (Weichselian) Pleistocene lowstand and glaciated during the previous (Saale/Illinoian) glacial period. Sea level was probably at a level comparable to that of the present during the intervening Eem/Sangamonian highstand.

The area's seismic signature is characterized by several levels of channelization, separated by major, area-wide high-amplitude reflectors. The lowermost aerial reflector represents the Saale boulder clay. The largest channel system, which cuts this reflector, was incised during the Older Dryas cooling event and filled during the Allerød warming period. It was subsequently re-incised during the Younger Dryas and refilled during the early Holocene. The most pronounced and extensive reflector represents the base of the Holocene, and almost everywhere equals the planed-off top of the Eem highstand section. This reflector is overlain by aggradational facies, separated by one level of channelization and one planed-off (ravinement?) surface. The most prominent type of seismic facies above the lowermost level of channelization is a set of progradational clinoforms, which is interpreted as a preserved ebb-tidal delta system. This system is associated with the first Holocene shoreline of ca. 7500 yrs BP.

The eastern part of the study area contains sand ridges with a complex pattern of internal cross-stratification. Ridge-crest sediments are very well-sorted with a mean grain size of 2.8-2.6 φ (ca. 0.15 mm), whereas sediments in the troughs are well-sorted with a mean grain size of 1.8-0.8 φ (0.25–0.5 mm). Origin of these ridges is tentatively thought to be related to reworking since 5000 yrs BP, when the dynamic regime was more or less similar to that of the present and sediment supply had decreased substantially.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung In der Gipslagerstätte Wienern am Grundlsee wurden pumpellyitführende Kissenlavabreccien nachgewiesen. Die in das permische Salinarbecken extrudierten Laven zeigen mehrphasige Veränderungen in Form von Mineralneubildungen. In den basischen Eruptivgesteinen sind dies vor allem Chlorit, Pumpellyit, Phengit, Kalifeldspat und seltener Biotit.

Summary Pumpellyite bearing pillow-lava-breccias have been observed in the gypsum-anhydrite mine of Wienern, Grundlsee, Styria. During Permian times, lava extruded into saline environment. The observed alteration of pillow-breccias is due to metamorphism of very lowPT regime. The newly formed minerals are chlorite, pumpellyite, phengite and potassium feldspar. Occasionally biotite was observed near ironrich ore minerals (pyrite).

The spatial and temporal discharge regime and its effects on benthic communities were studied in two small temporary karstic stream systems of the Paderborner Hochfläche (East Westphalia, Germany). Both streams are characterized by very small perennial springbrook sections. Benthic invertebrates were sampled three times at 12 sites and discharge was measured monthly from March to September 2000. The spatial extension of streamflow was observed regularly to evaluate the duration of drought. Both streams showed a longitudinal gradient of hydrological intermittency from very small perennial reaches with low intermittency to an extremely harsh hydrological situation. The benthic communities displayed a decreasing species richness at increasing intermittency. The different hydrological stream sections were colonized by different lotic communities, characterized by typical species of temporary streams and by several typical species of springs. Particularly the perennial springs and springbrooks are very important for the species richness in these karstic stream systems.  相似文献

Determination of geomagnetic paleointensity by the Thellier method compares the decay of natural remanent magnetisation with the gain of a laboratory induced thermoremanent magnetisation. If fragile samples lose some amount of their material after each heating step, the Thellier experiment will be systematically disturbed and paleointensity will be over-estimated. For a lost of 5% of the sample’s mass an over-estimate of 10% in paleointensity is observed. This can easily be corrected by a normalisation to the initial mass of the unheated sample. This is necessary for any fragile materials such as baked clays or when a specimen breaks into pieces during the Thellier experiment.  相似文献

The Porgera gold deposit, Papua New Guinea, is associated with sodic-alkalic, hypabyssal intrusions of alkali basaltic to mugearitic composition. The intrusions were emplaced into Cretaceous mudstones and siltstones in the latest Miocene, and both igneous and sedimentary rocks are mineralized. Three types of veins occur: (1) magnetite-sulfide - Au-carbonate veins; (2) base-metal sulfide - Au-carbonate veins; and, economically most important, (3) quartz-roscoelite-Au veins and breccias. Magmatic hornblende and biotite, hydrothermal biotite from alteration selvages associated with the magnetite-sulfide - Au veins, and roscoelite were dated using the laser 40Ar/39Ar step-heating technique. Magmatic biotite yielded a date of 5.99ǂ.11 Ma (2C error; MSWD=3.7), and two samples of magmatic hornblende provided dates of 6.35ǂ.23 Ma (MSWD=1.0) and 6.3ǂ.7 Ma (MSWD=2.6). Hydrothermal biotite provided a date of 5.98ǂ.13 Ma (MSWD=2.7), and analyses of two roscoelite samples yielded dates of 5.92ǂ.09 Ma (MSWD=2.0) and 5.92ǂ.17 Ma (MSWD=2.0). The date of the magmatic biotite is interpreted to represent the age of the intrusions more accurately than the hornblende dates because small amounts of excess 40Ar were present in the hornblende samples. The date for hydrothermal biotite is interpreted to be the age of the alteration associated with the magnetite-sulfide - Au veins (the paragenetically earliest veins), and thus reflects the age of the onset of the mineralizing activity at Porgera. Based on the two dates for roscoelite, the age of the main ore deposition event is interpreted to be 5.92ǂ.08 Ma. The apparent ages for the intrusive and the mineralizing events are thus identical within error, and suggest that the magmatic and ore-forming system at Porgera was short-lived.  相似文献

13 lava flows of known age (ages from 14C dating), which have been erupted in the last 30 000 years, have been studied to determine the palaeosecular variation of the geomagnetic field in Central Mexico. Samples were taken from two different monogenetic volcanic fields: the Michoacan-Guanajuato volcanic field (six sites) and the Chichinautzin Formation (seven sites), both part of the Transmexican Volcanic Belt. The lavas were studied in detail using rock magnetic methods (magnetic susceptibility at room temperature, low-temperature susceptibility behaviour, hysteresis loops, Curie temperatures), combined with reflected light microscopy, in order to deduce their magnetic mineralogy and the domain states of the magnetic minerals. The magnetic carriers are titanomagnetites, which show differing degrees of high-temperature deuteric oxidation, and seem to be predominantly pseudo-single domain (PSD), though in many cases are probably a mixture of domain states. Mean palaeomagnetic directions and palaeointensity values using Shaw and Thellier techniques were obtained using several specimens from each flow. Our data seem to indicate a sharp easterly swing in declination about 5000 years ago, which is also observed in lake sediments from Central Mexico. The calculated values of the virtual dipole moment (VDM) range from 3.1 to 14.9 × 1022 A m2. Our data indicate that the virtual dipole moment seems to have increased gradually in magnitude over the last 30 kyr, with a peak at about 9000 years BP. These are features that have been observed in other parts of the globe and are probably caused by variations in the dipole part of the geomagnetic field.  相似文献
