Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are important environmental pollutants due to their persistence and bioaccumulation potential both in organisms and in sediments. In this study, bioaccumulation and depuration experiments were performed employing local Mediterranean mussel species, Mytilus galloprovincialis, with two biomarkers: filtration rate and lysosomal stability (neutral red retention) assay. Benzo(a)anthracene (BaA) was chosen as the model PAH compound due to its common presence in several matrices in the marine environment. Bioconcentration Factors (BCFs) for the mussels exposed to different BaA concentrations were calculated from both kinetic rate constants and from the experimental data and found between 27-3184 and 16-2745, respectively. Experimental QSAR values were found comparable to the previous QSAR models created for BaA. The effect of BaA exposure on the mussels showed a more clear dose-response relationship according to the results of lysosomal stability compared to the filtration rate.  相似文献

The degree and the contribution of each point source to the pollution were determined in the Izmit Bay during the period 1999–2000. During 8 campaigns, samples from 11 points in the channels and water samples from 5 points in the coastal sea were collected for chemical analysis. The important pollutant parameters taken into account are inflow of total organic carbon (TOC), total suspended solids (TSS), total phosphorus (TP), total nitrogen (TN), nitrate, ortho-phosphate, ammonia and total polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (t-PAHs) in the discharge channels, and TOC, TSS, nitrate, ortho-phosphate, chlorophyll-a, temperature, dissolved oxygen (DO), and salinity in the coastal stations of the Bay. It should be pointed out that the industrial wastewaters entering the bay are partially treated but domestic wastes are discharged directly into the surface waters without any treatment. Of the pollution parameters measured in the channels, the highest concentrations, except TP, were observed in the Dil River and in the Eastern Channel. Concentrations of TOC, TSS, TN, TP, ammonia, nitrate and o-phosphate were found at concentrations of 231, 290, 152, 3.8, 16, 79, and 3.07 mg/L, respectively. Annual inflows of TOC were 21,301, 580, and 775 t/year and for TSS were 26,742, 585, and 1505 t/year in the western, central and eastern parts, respectively. The results show that the water quality of the bay has been deteriorated and 80% of the pollution was caused by Dil River for all parameters measured.  相似文献

Detailed reviews of multichannel seismic reflection, sparker, chirp and multibeam data that were collected on the southern Marmara Sea shelf revealed various shallow gas indicators and related sedimentary structures, including enhanced reflections, seismic chimneys, acoustic blanking, bright spots, pockmarks, mound-like features and seeps. Seismic attribute analyses were applied to characterise the existence of gas-bearing sediments. The distribution of shallow gas indicators provides important insights into their origin and the geological factors that control them. Prominent gas accumulations and seeps are observed along the profiles that cross the branches of the central segment of the North Anatolian Fault Zone, which indicates that the gas seeps are controlled by active faulting. This indicates that the faults act as conduits through the sedimentary column. The dense occurrences of gas directly off the river mouths along the shallow bays provide clues about the organic-rich carbon content of the sediments and biogenic methane generation. In some areas, the gas-related acoustic anomalies are mostly located in the upper sediments below the marine unit, which indicates that the gas emissions in these areas were terminated as a result of the increased overburden pressure after the Holocene sea level rise and the deposition of the marine unit.  相似文献

This paper presents the practical closed‐form solutions for elastic settlement under the linear full‐contact pressures on rectangular areas resting upon an elastic mass. The linear pressure distribution is mostly assumed in practice for the rectangular footing having biaxial bending. The equations presented here are determined by evaluating the integration of Steinbrenner's strain approximation based on the stress solutions from the Boussinesq equations. The presented formulae are validated to be used for the elastic settlement under any point of linear full‐contact loading, triangular and embankment types of pressure cases. In this respect, it represents a significant step forward in the understanding of elastic settlement and rotation under the practical loading cases. The presented solutions are concise and easy to use. The numerical examples are demonstrated and the resulting influence factors in graphical forms are presented for their practical use especially in the elastic settlement calculations of rectangular footing subjected to the biaxial bending. The Menderes Massif is a large area of dominantly Tertiary metamorphic rocks in western Turkey. It is bordered in the west by the Cycladic Metamorphic Complex with Eocene high-pressure/low-temperature (HP/LT) metamorphism. In the Central Menderes the AydLn mountains are made up of a thrust stack of Eocene age. At the base of the thrust stack, greenschist-facies Paleozoic metasediments of the Menderes Massif form an inverted stratigraphic sequence. The Barrovian-type metamorphism is also inverted with garnet-bearing metapelites lying over the lower-grade biotite-bearing metapelites. The P-T conditions in the garnet zone are estimated as 530°C and 8 kbar. This schist sequence of the central Menderes Massif is interpreted as the inverted lower limb of a major southward closing recumbent fold, with the southern Menderes Massif representing a section from the near hinge of this fold. The Paleozoic metamorphic rocks of the central Menderes Massif are tectonically overlain by gneiss klippen possibly originating from the sheared and southward translated core of the Menderes fold. Lying also tectonically over the Paleozoic metamorphic rocks is a major thrust sheet belonging to the Cycladic metamorphic complex. It consists of garnet micaschist, Mesozoic marble, serpentinite and amphibolitised eclogite. Although it has a highly sheared internal structure, it probably represents an initially coherent sequence that has undergone HP/LT metamorphism during the Eocene. The AydLn mountains are dominated by contractional structures with subordinate extensional structures.  相似文献

The petrology and mineralogy of lawsonite zone metabasites have been studied northeast of town of Tavanli, NW Turkey. In the field the metabasites are characteristically green and lack foliation; the essential mineral assemblage being sodic pyroxene+ lawsonite+chlorite+quartz±sodic amphibole. Sodic pyroxene of aegirine-jadeite composition occurs as pseudomorphs after magmatic augite. Lawsonite and chlorite are the other two dominant minerals. Sodic amphibole forms progressively from a reaction between sodic pyroxene, chlorite and quartz, and an isograd representing the first abundant occurrence of sodic amphibole in basic rocks has been mapped. The widespread occurrence of sodic pyroxene pseudomorphs in other blueschist terrains indicates that the inferred sodic amphibole producing reaction is of general significance for blueschist metabasites.The conversion of greenstones with the assemblage albite+chlorite+actinolite directly into glaucophane-lawsonite blueschists without any intervening lawsonite zone illustrates the influence of the initial mineral assemblage on the reaction path.  相似文献

The compositions of sodic pyroxenes from blueschist metabasites in Northwest Turkey were investigated by electronprobe microanalysis. These are compared with sodic pyroxenes from high-grade blueschist terrains and eclogites with special reference to the island of Syros in Greece. Pyroxenes from lawsonite zone metabasites in Northwest Turkey are chloromelanites, aegerine augites and aegerine jadeites with the acmite contents ranging from 65% down to 30%. Epidote-garnet bearing high-grade blueschist metabasites of Syros on the other hand contain omphacite with the acmite content less than 30%. All the analyzed sodic pyroxenes from eclogites and high-grade blueschists in the literature are also omphacites with low acmite contents. It is argued that the acmite content of the sodic pyroxene decreases with rising temperature of metamorphism. This is almost entirely related to the appearance of epidote as an additional ferric ion bearing phase with an increase in temperature.  相似文献

Volcano-sedimentary rocks in an imbricate tectonic zone around a peridotite massif have been studied northeast of the town of Tavanli in Northwest Turkey. Basic volcanic rocks, which are the dominant rock type in this zone, show incipient blueschist metamorphism and associated metasomatism. While the igneous textures of the volcanic rocks are retained, augites are partially to completely replaced by sodic pyroxene, and plagioclase is albitised resulting in rocks with 6–8 wt.% Na2O. The volcanic rocks are cross-cut by numerous veins of calcite, aragonite, quartz, pumpellyite, albite, lawsonite and sodic pyroxene. Pelagic limestones, which are interbedded with the basic volcanic rocks, consist of coarse aragonite grains showing partial replacement by calcite. The occurrence of aragonite, lawsonite and albite indicates conditions of metamorphism for the whole zone in the range of 5–8 kb and 150–200° C. Metasomatism, probably related to high pressure serpentinization, has occurred contemporaneously with the incipient high pressure metamorphism.  相似文献

Post-collision magmatism and tectonics in northwest Anatolia   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A suite of biotite-hornblende granodiorite intrusions has been emplaced into blueschist-facies metasediments in northwest Anatolia, following collision between two continental margins, now represented by the Tavanli and Sakarya zones. The 40Ar/39Ar ages of phengites and glaucophanes from the blueschists, metamorphosed under unusually high P-low T conditions (P=20±2 kbar, T=430±30° C), suggest that metamorphism apparently occurred over a period spanning at least 20 Ma from 108 to 88 Ma. Post-tectonic granodiorites were emplaced during the Eocene (53 to 48 Ma) resulting in a cordierite and andalusite-bearing thermal aureole, indicative of pressures of 3 kbar. Trace-element systematics of the granodiorites are consistent with a derivation either from mantle-derived magmas by fractional crystallisation in shallow magma chambers, or from anatexis of crustal lithologies of internediate composition at pressures <10 kbar. The preservation of high P-low T assemblages in the blueschists together with the range of ages determined for blueschist-facies metamorphism are indicative of rapid exhumation of delaminated fragments from a subducted continental margin. However decompression melting of the crust is unlikely to have been a significant cause of magmatism, both because exhumation of the blueschists from deep crustal levels predated magmatism by at least 25 Ma, and because of the small melt fraction (<0.1) that may be generated in crustal lithologies by this process. Melting in the mantle wedge is required either to generate a primary melt for the derivation of magmas of intermediate composition or to provide an advective heat source for crustal melting. The cause of melt formation in the upper mantle may be related to the termination of subduction following collision during the Mid-Eocene.  相似文献
