The chemical and isotopic characterization of formation water from 18 oil production wells, extracted from 5200 to 6100 m b.s.l. at the Jujo–Tecominoacán carbonate reservoir in SE-Mexico, and interpretations of historical production records, were undertaken to determine the origin and hydraulic behavior of deep groundwater systems. The infiltration of surface water during Late Pleistocene to Early Holocene time is suggested by 14C-concentrations from 2.15 to 31.86 pmC, and by 87Sr/86Sr-ratios for high-salinity formation water (0.70923–0.70927) that are close to the composition of Holocene to modern seawater. Prior to infiltration, the super-evaporation of seawater reached maximum TDS concentrations of 385 g/L, with lowest δ18O values characterizing the most hypersaline samples. Minor deviations of formation water and dolomite host rocks from modern and Jurassic 87Sr/86Sr-seawater composition, respectively, suggest ongoing water–rock interaction, and partial isotopic equilibration between both phases. The abundance of 14C in all sampled formation water, 87Sr/86Sr-ratios for high-salinity water close to Holocene – present seawater composition, a water salinity distribution that is independent of historic water-cut, and a total water extraction volume of 2.037 MMm3 (1/83–4/07) excludes a connate, oil-leg origin for the produced water of the Jurassic–Cretaceous mudstone-dolomite sequence. Temporal fluctuations of water chemistry in production intervals, the accelerated migration of water fronts from the reservoir flanks, and isotopic mixing trends between sampled wells confirms the existence of free aquifer water below oil horizons. Vertical and lateral hydraulic mobility has probably been accelerated by petroleum extraction.  相似文献

The Gulf of California (GC) is one of the most productive seas in the Pacific Ocean because of several oceanographic phenomena that support many marine mammal species, particularly of the cetacean order. The environmental variability of the GC was analysed during the cold and warm periods of 2005 and 2006 and its effects on the distribution and relative abundance of baleen whales using sea surface temperature (SST) and chlorophyll a (Chl a) concentration. Satellite image analysis allowed us to detect important differences in both Chl a concentration and SST including cold to warm periods, even between the two cold periods and between the two warm periods. The cold periods had the highest number of whales: 99 individuals in 2005 and 183 in 2006, which were distributed along the entire gulf. Fewer animals were recorded in the warm period: 46 individuals in 2005 and 30 in 2006, which were mainly distributed in the northern part of the gulf. We concluded that SST influenced the relative abundance of baleen whales while Chl a concentration influenced their distribution.  相似文献

In December 2008, 694 trees uprooted within a 108 ha (1·08 km2) watershed in central Massachusetts due to a severe ice storm, resulting in the displacement of ~1300 m3 of root material, unconsolidated sediment, and fractured bedrock. Overall, we find that uprooting and tree throw is often grouped in clusters and cascades; conifers displace more material than deciduous trees; areas with abundant mature hemlock and steep slopes are more susceptible to tree throw, with clusters as dense as 125 per hectare; and failure is predominantly downhill, suggesting that ice storms promote efficient downslope hillslope sediment transport in northern hardwood forests. Combining the recurrence interval of severe storms in New England (20–75 years) with the forest response presented here, we calculate a sediment transport rate of 2–5 × 10?5 m3 m?1 a?1 averaged over the entire watershed. Forest susceptibility to tree throw differed based on location in the watershed; some areas experienced up to ~30× higher than average sediment transport rates, while others experienced no tree throw. Two severe storms following the 2008 ice storm (hurricane in 2011; snow storm in October 2012) did not result in significant tree throw within the study area, highlighting that the coupling of storm severity and forest susceptibility controls the amount of tree throw during a given forest disturbance. In addition to recent tree throw from the 2008 ice storm, widespread pit and mound microtopography in the study area indicates that tree throw is a recurrent process in this landscape. Two factors emerge that will influence future ice storms related hillslope sediment transport in the steep forested hillslopes of New England: regional climate gradients and changing climate determine the size, intensity and recurrence of ice storms; forest management practices and health control the tree age and type. The implementation of flow injection analysis (FIA) systems and correlated techniques in the laboratory routine provides an increase of analytical throughput and the reduction of risks of analyte losses and contamination. Naturally, it contributes to the reduction of reagent consumption and minimization of waste generation. This paper presents and discusses an overview of the main strategies adopted to make methods based on FIA systems more environmentally friendly, and offers a review of these methods that covers the period from January 2002 to December 2019. Strategies based on reagent management (adoption of procedures without reagents, replacement of toxic reagents, recycling and reuse of reagents and, use of immobilized reagents), the online waste treatment, and the improvements of FIA systems (flow system configurations that avoid reagent wastage, use of green detectors, automation, and miniaturization) are approached in this perspective.  相似文献

The Ossa-Morena Zone (OMZ) and the Southportuguese Zone (SPZ) represent the southernmost domains of the Iberian Massif (European Hercynian Belt). Lithostratigraphic, pétrographic and structural differences exist between both zones. The boundary between the OMZ and the SPZ is marked by a narrow belt of amphibolites of tholeiitic oceanic affinity (Bard &Moine, 1979);Munha et al., 1986), and associated serpentinites, flaser gabbros, pillowed metabasalts (Castro et al., 1987) which are highly sheared along their southern border. These Beja-Acebuches ophiolites (op. cit.) are exposed for over 200 km. In the southernmost part of the OMZ and the northernmost area of the SPZ, several zones have been distinguished on the basis of structural and lithological criteria. The southernmost area of the OMZ which bounds the Acebuches amphibolites, is composed of high grade metamorphic rocks and an another important shear zone mark the OMZ northern boundary. The boundary between the OMZ and the SPZ is considered to be a suture zone between two continental areas represented by the northern OMZ and the southern SPZ. Sinistral transpression associated with large scale recumbent folds are characteristic of the suture, which can be tentatively correlated through the Ibero-Armorican arc with the Lizard complex (SW England).
Zusammenfassung Die Ossa-Morena Zone (OMZ) und die Südportugiesische Zone (SPZ) bauen die südlichsten Anteile des Iberischen Massivs auf (europäisches Variszikum). Sie unterscheiden sich auf lithostratigraphischer, petrographischer und struktureller Basis. Die Grenze zwischen OMZ und SPZ wird vom schmalen Streifen der Acebuches-Amphiboliten gebildet, Meta-Ophiliten tholeiitisch-ozeanischer Prägung (Bard &Moine, 1979;Munha et al. 1986). Sie lassen sich über mehr als 200 km verfolgen. Eine intensive Scherung überprägt sie im Süden. Eine Unterteilung des Südrandes der OMZ und des Nordrandes der SPZ konnte mittels struktureller und lithologischer Kriterien durchgeführt werden. Der südlichste Abschnitt der OMZ längs der Acebuches-Amphibolite, besteht aus hochgradig metamorphen Gesteinen; er ist gegen Norden durch eine weitere, größere Scherzone begrenzt. Die Grenze zwischen OMZ und SPZ muß somit als eine Sutur-Zone zwischen zwei kontinentalen Blöcken betrachtet werden, der OMZ im Norden (heutige Position) und der SPZ im Süden. Diese Sutur wird von einer sinistral transpressiven Konvergenz-Zone mit großräumig liegenden Falten überprägt. Sie kann durch den Ibero-Armorikanischer Bogen mit dem Lizard-Komplex in SW-England korreliert werden.

Resumen La Zona de Ossa-Morena (OMZ) y la Zona Surportuguesa (SPZ) representan los dominios más meridionales del Macizo Ibérico (Cadena hercínica europea). Las diferencias entre ambos dominios son de naturaleza litoestratográfica, petrográfica y estructural. El contacto entre ambas zonas (OMZ y SPZ) está subrayado por una estrecha banda de anfibolitas (»de Acebuches«,Bard, 1969) y rocas asociadas (serpentinitas, flaser gabbros, metabasaltos en pillow,Castro et al., 1987), que se pueden seguir de manera contínua, a lo largo de más de 200 km. Estas anfibolitas tienen afinidades de toleitas oceánicas (Bard &Moine, 1979;Munha et al., 1986) y representan restas de una secuencia ofiolitica (op. cit.). Hacía el sur, están afectadas por un intenso cizallamiento. En la parte meridional de la OMZ y en el sector más septentrional de la SPZ se han diferenciado una serie de zonas en función de sus características litológicas y estructurales. El sector más meridional de la OMZ, directamente en contacto con las anfibolitas de Acebuches, esta constituido por rocas metamórficas de alto grado y esta limitado al N y al S por importantes zonas de cizalla. El contacto entre la OMZ y la SPZ debe ser considerado como una zona de sutura entre dos areas continentales, representadas respectivamente por la OMZ al norte (en su posición actual) y la SPZ, al sur. Una convergencia de tipo transpresiva sinistrorsa, con grandes pliegues recumbentes vergentes hacía el sur, caracteriza esta sutura, que puede correlacionarse con el macizo de Lizard (SW de Inglaterra), a través del arco Ibero-Armoricano.

Mineralization and alteration events at ten Miocene porphyry Cu and porphyry-related epithermal mineral deposits in southern, central, and northern Ecuador were dated by means of molybdenite Re-Os, biotite and alunite 40Ar/39Ar, and titanite U-Pb geochronology. Most of these hydrothermal events show a spatio-temporal correlation with porphyry intrusion emplacement as constrained by zircon U-Pb ages. The total age range for these events spans the 23.5–6.1 Ma period, without displaying systematic along- or across-arc age distribution trends. While epithermal deposits tend to be spatially associated with volcanic rocks of a similar age, porphyry Cu deposits in Ecuador are frequently spatially associated with deeper-seated basement units and batholith-scale precursor intrusive systems assembled over ≥5 m.y. time periods. In most cases, formation of the porphyry Cu deposits is related to the youngest magmatic (-hydrothermal) event in a given area, postdating batholith construction at a regional scale. The majority of Miocene deposits occurs in southern Ecuador where areally extensive, post-mineralization (late Miocene to recent) volcanic sequences with the potential to conceal mineralization at depth are lacking. Only few Miocene deposits occur in northern-central Ecuador, where they mainly crop out in the Western Cordillera, west of the productive present-day volcanic arc. The surface distribution of post-mineralization arc volcanism reflects along-arc variations in subducting slab geometry. Porphyry Cu and epithermal deposits in Ecuador define a Miocene metallogenic belt broadly continuous with its coeval counterpart in northern-central Peru. Although both belt segments were formed in an overall similar tectonomagmatic and metallogenic setting, their respective metal endowments differ significantly.  相似文献

This study analyses the relationship between fire incidence and some environmental factors, exploring the spatial non-stationarity of the phenomenon in sub-Saharan Africa. Geographically weighted regression (GWR) was used to study the above relationship. Environment covariates comprise land cover, anthropogenic and climatic variables. GWR was compared to ordinary least squares, and the hypothesis that GWR represents no improvement over the global model was tested. Local regression coefficients were mapped, interpreted and related with fire incidence. GWR revealed local patterns in parameter estimates and also reduced the spatial autocorrelation of model residuals. All the covariates were non-stationary and in terms of goodness of fit, the model replicates the data very well (R 2 = 87%). Vegetation has the most significant relationship with fire incidence, with climate variables being more important than anthropogenic variables in explaining variability of the response. Some coefficient estimates exhibit locally different signs, which would have gone undetected by a global approach. This study provides an improved understanding of spatial fire–environment relationships and shows that GWR is a valuable complement to global spatial analysis methods. When studying fire regimes, effects of spatial non-stationarity need to be incorporated in vegetation-fire modules to have better estimates of burned areas and to improve continental estimates of biomass burning and atmospheric emissions derived from vegetation fires.  相似文献

The water quality of the Vacacaí River was assessed at different sites in the period between winter 2005 and autumn 2006. All samples were analyzed for 52 elements (Sc, Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu, Th, Li, Be, Mg, Al, Ca, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Co, Cu, Zn, Ga, As, Se, Rb, Sr, Ag, Cd, In, Cs, Ba, Tl, Pb, Bi, U, Na, K, Hg, B, Mo, Sn, Te, Ti), temperature, pH, ammonia, and alkalinity levels. Water from the Vacacaí River ranged from slightly acidic to alkaline. No difference was observed in the chemical composition at different sites of the Vacacaí River. Levels of Ba, Ca, Sr and Mg increase in the dry seasons and reach their highest concentrations in autumn; Be and U decrease in the dry season and reach their highest concentration in spring. Al, Fe, Cr, Ni, Th, U Mn, Ca and Mg are highly positively related, indicating a common origin. Se and Cu are probably from anthropogenic source, from the rice crops of the margins of the river. Waterborne Al and Fe levels were above the desirable level for drinking water at all sites during all seasons. These results demonstrate the need for constant monitoring of water parameters, which is crucial to ensure water quality for the population of this region.  相似文献
