The differential color indices in the central bulk of spiral SA, SAB and SB galaxies were analyzed. A comparison of the data derived for the three families do not show any systematical difference among them, within the most probable error of the sample.  相似文献

Large field H observations of the Milky Way between Carina and Aquila were made through a narrow interference filter 15 wide. Characteristic large-scale features of the observed region are extended emission areas in Carina, Norma-Scorpius and Scutum-Sagittarius and some weak isolated nebulosities near the Coal Sac, Centauri and Normae. H photographs, a chart mapping the emission, and a list of identified emission regions are given.  相似文献

Metallicity of 8 E and SO galaxies as well as that of red globulars of the LMC and SMC were obtained by means of DDO integrated photometry calibrated with galactic globular clusters (Bica and Pastoriza, 1983; hereafter referred to as Paper I). A correction was obtained in order to reduce the colors of the galaxies to zero redshift. The relation metallicity vsM V for the galaxies is analyzed (adding to our sample the observations of McClure and Van den Bergh, 1968; and Faber, 1973a). For the Magellanic Clouds we found metallicity ranging from intermediate to poor.  相似文献

We calculate the principal inertia moments of a three-dimensional mass distribution rotating with angular velocity in a self-gravitating homogeneous field with axial symmetry. We show that the angular momentumJ may, under certain conditions, be of the Regge-like type. These results are used to evaluate the mass and average density of the Universe.  相似文献

Flood inundation models have been recognized to be a valuable tool to reproduce flow dynamics in a given area and support decision‐making processes on flood management measures. In many cases, in the simulation of flood events, only the main river channel and the associated structures are represented within the model. However, during flood events involving lowland areas, the minor drainage network – and the associated hydraulic structures – may have an important role in conveying flow and determining which areas will be flooded. The objective of this study is to investigate whether – and to what extent – small hydraulic structures in drainage networks have an influence in flooding on lowland areas. The case study for this research is the 1990 flood event which occurred in the lowland plain of the Reno River, in Northern Italy. The study area is mainly used for agricultural purposes and has a drainage system with several small bridges and culverts. The influence of the minor hydraulic structures on flood dynamics was analyzed through a combined use of one‐dimensional (1D) and two‐dimensional (2D) hydraulic models. First, a number of detailed and simplified approaches to represent hydraulic structures in the computational grids were analyzed by means of the HECRAS 1D model. Second, these approaches were implemented and tested in several 2D simulations of the flood event. The simulated inundation extents and flood levels were then compared with the observed data and with each other. The analysis of results showed that simplified schematizations were sufficient to obtain good model predictions of peak inundation extent and flood levels, at least for the present case study. Moreover, the influence of the structures on the peak flood inundation extent and flood levels was found to be limited, whereas it showed to be more significant during the drainage phase of the flood. Radial colour gradients in the globular clusters NGC 2808, NGC 1851, NGC 5139, NGC 5139, NGC 6388, NGC 6441, NGC 6541, NGC 6723, and NGC 7099 were searched byB-V and DDO photoelectric photometry, using a set of circular diaphragms. Two of the observed globular clusters, NGC 5139 (Cen) and NGC 7099 (M30), showedB-V and C(45–48) colour gradients; the colour C(42–45) is essentially constant in these clusters, which means that the physical reason for those gradients cannot be attributed to chemical composition variations, since C(42–45) is a good metal abundance indicator.B-V colours in the external regions of NGC 5139 and NGC 7099 were obtained by synthesizing the observed HR diagrams of these clusters. The ages and the relaxation times for NGC 5139 and NGC 7099 indicate that mass segregation must have taken place in both clusters, which is probably related to the observed colour gradients.  相似文献

CCD narrow band imagery of the southern barred spiral NGC 613 has been obtained in the light of H, H, [Oiii] 5007 Å, [Oii] (3726+29) Å and continua at 3765, 5230, and 6500 Å. Absolute fluxes have been obtained for the lines H and [Oiii] 5007 Å and continua at 5230 and 6500 Å. Distribution of ages, monochromatic colour vs absolute brightness and [Oiii]/H are discussed.  相似文献

We performed numerical simulations of star cluster encounters with Hernquist's treecode on a CRAY YMP-2E computer. We used different initial conditions (relative positions and velocities, cluster sizes, masses and concentration degrees) with the total number of particles per simulation ranging from 4608 to 20 480. Long-term interaction stages (up to 1 Gyr) when the pair coalesces into a single cluster are compared with isolated LMC clusters. Evidence is found that, when seen in a favourable plane, these resulting clusters show elliptical shapes as a result of the disruption of one of the companions. These elliptical shapes are essentially time-independent, but they do depend on the initial structural parameters of the pair components. We also analysed the fraction of stars that are ejected to the field by the interaction. We found that this fraction can be almost 50 per cent for the disrupted cluster. These simulations can represent a possible mechanism with which to explain the ellipticity observed in several star clusters in the Magellanic Clouds.  相似文献

The reliability of a levee system is a crucial factor in flood risk management. In this study we present a probabilistic methodology to assess the effects of levee cover strength on levee failure probability, triggering time, flood propagation and consequent impacts on population and assets. A method for determining fragility curves is used in combination with the results of a one-dimensional hydrodynamic model to estimate the conditional probability of levee failure in each river section. Then, a levee breach model is applied to calculate the possible flood hydrographs, and for each breach scenario a two-dimensional hydrodynamic model is used to estimate flood hazard (flood extent and timing, maximum water depths) and flood impacts (economic damage and affected population) in the areas at risk along the river reach. We show an application for levee overtopping and different flood scenarios for a 98 km reach of the lower Po River in Italy. The results show how different design solutions for the levee cover can influence the probability of levee failure and the consequent flood scenarios. In particular, good grass cover strength can significantly delay levee failure and reduce maximum flood depths in the flood-prone areas, thus helping the implementation of flood risk management actions.
