A method has been developed for determination of15N isotope ratio in nitrate nitrogen, which is a major analytical step in tracer experiments for studies of nitrate metabolism
in the marine environment. The method is based on diazotization of nitrite with sulfanilic acid following reduction of nitrate
to nitrite by a cadmium-copper column. The diazonium compound is then subject to the azo coupling reaction with 2-naphthol,
and the azo dye formed is extracted by a solid phase extraction column. The dye eluted from the column is collected, and total
nitrogen and15N content of the dye are determined by mass spectrometry. Sulfanilic acid can also remove preexisting nitrite by heating the
sample under acidic conditions before passing through the cadmium-copper reduction column. The average recovery of nitrate
nitrogen was 86%. A procedure for reducing the background nitrogen that derives from the analytical operations has been developed;
background nitrogen was limited to about 0.25 μg-atomN. The variation in the background nitrogen levels reflects the range of error in15N determination of nitrate nitrogen by this method. Application of the present method to a15NO3
− isotope dilution experiment for determination of nitrification rate in sea water is demonstrated. 相似文献

In order to specify a vertical thermal structure related to surface current variation on the continental slope in Tosa Bay,
Japan, we analyzed monthly regular hydrographic measurements in the years 1991–2004. Subsurface temperature below 200 m on
the slope was found to vary synchronously with the vertical displacement of the main thermocline around 200 m. It is shown
that the vertical-averaged temperature below 200 m is significantly correlated with an along-isobath/southwestward surface
current velocity on the slope. This correlation indicates that when a strong (weak) southwestward surface current is observed,
temperature below 200 m decreases (increases) simultaneously, that is, isotherms below the 200 m are displaced upward (downward)
together with the main thermocline. Moreover, when the strong southwestward flow is detected, across-isobath isotherms around
200 m slope upward toward the offshore direction. Furthermore, it is suggested that as the Kuroshio axis moves offshore south
of the bay, the southwestward flow tends to be weakened by the combined effect of other Kuroshio parameters such as transport
and stream width as well as the Kuroshio axis position. As a result, it is inferred that the correlation between the surface
current and subsurface temperature can be interpreted in terms of the formation and decay of an anticlockwise circulation

Seven Skeletonema species were identified at one station in the industrial harbor Dokai Bay, Japan, in October 2007 and then monthly from January
2008 to December 2009 by morphological scanning electron microscopy observations and molecular analyses of mainly the large
subunit (LSU) rDNA. We refer to one species identified as S. dohrnii using LSU rDNA, but as S. marinoi using the small subunit (SSU) rDNA and consequently we use the term S. marinoi-dohrnii complex. This is the first time that S. ardens, S. costatum s.s., and S. pseudocostatum have been recorded in Japan and that S. menzelii and S. tropicum have been identified by molecular methods in Japan. The S. marinoi-dohrnii complex was isolated with high frequency all year-round, and S. japonicum was also isolated with high frequency but not so in summer. S. Tropicum was isolated from September to December, but S. ardens and S. costatum s.s. were isolated only when the water temperature exceeded 20°C. S. pseudocostatum bloomed just once, in summer, but S. menzelii was isolated in May and again in October. The continuous year-round occurrence of S. costatum s.l. in the bay is supported by the succession of these seven species. Six of the species, except S. menzelii, were important components of algal blooms in the bay. One to four species of Skeletonema were isolated every month. Monthly species diversity was higher when S. ardens, S. costatum s.s., and S. tropicum that are usually associated with tropical or subtropical waters, were isolated. The role of the grain boundary at chemical and isotopic fronts in marble during contact metamorphism

Carbon and oxygen isotopic profiles around a low pressure metasomatic wollastonite reaction front in a marble of the Hida
metamorphic terrain, central Japan, display typical metamorphic fluid-enhanced isotopic zonations. Isotopic profiles obtained
from detailed microscale analyses perpendicular to the chemical reaction front in calcite marble show that diffusion-enhanced
isotopic exchange may control these profiles. Carbon and oxygen isotopic behaviour in grain boundaries is remarkably different.
Oxygen isotopic troughs (18O depleted rims) around the calcite-grain boundaries are widely observed in this contact aureole, demonstrating that diffusion
of oxygen in calcite grain boundary dominates over lattice diffusion in calcite. In contrast, no difference is observed in
carbon isotopic profiles obtained from grain cores and rims. There is thus no specific role of the grain boundary for diffusion
of carbonic species in the metamorphic fluid during transportation. Carbon chemical species such as CO2 and CO3 ions in metamorphic fluid migrate mainly through lattice diffusion. The carbon and oxygen isotope profiles may be modelled
by diffusion into a semi-infinite medium. Empirically lattice diffusion of oxygen isotopes is almost six times faster than
that of carbon isotopes, and oxygen grain-boundary diffusion is ten times faster than oxygen lattice diffusion. Oxygen isotopic
results around the wollastonite vein indicate that migration of the metamorphic fluid into calcite marble was small and was
parallel to the aquifer. From the stability of wollastonite and the attainment of oxygen isotopic equilibrium, we suggest
that diffusion of oxygen occurred through an aqueous fluid phase. The timescale of formation of the oxygen isotopic profile
around the wollastonite vein is calculated to be about 0.76 × 106 years using the experimentally determined diffusion constant.

Greenstone bodies emplaced upon or into clastic sediments crop out ubiquitously in the Hidaka belt (early Paleogene accretionary and collisional complexes exposed in the central part of northern Hokkaido, NE Japan), but the timing and setting of their emplacement has remained poorly constrained. Here, we report new zircon U–Pb ages for the sedimentary complexes surrounding these greenstones. The Hidaka Supergroup in the northern Hidaka belt is divided into four zones from west to east: zones S, U, and R, which contain in situ greenstones; and zone Y, which does not. Detrital zircons in zones S, U, and R have early Eocene U–Pb ages (55–47 Ma) and these strata are intruded by early Eocene granites (46–45 Ma), indicating that they were deposited between 55 and 46 Ma. Therefore, in situ greenstones in the northern Hidaka belt can only be explained by the subduction of the Izanagi–Pacific Ridge during 55–47 Ma. In contrast, the deposition of zone Y (the Yubetsu Group, younging to the west) began by 73–71 Ma, indicating that the accretionary prism in front of the paleo-Kuril arc formed at the same time as that in the Idonnappu zone and grew continuously until 48 Ma. The plutonic rocks that intruded the Hidaka belt are roughly divided into three stages: (1) early Eocene granites intruded the northern Hidaka belt at 46–45 Ma, during subduction of the Izanagi–Pacific Ridge; (2) the upper sequence of the Hidaka metamorphic zone was metamorphosed by magmatism at 40–37 Ma associated with the collision of the paleo-Kuril arc and NE Asia; and (3) younger granites intruded the entire Hidaka belt at 20–17 Ma in association with asthenospheric upwelling caused by back-arc expansion. 相似文献

The spatio-temporal variations in stable isotope signatures (??13C and ??15N) and C/N ratios of particulate organic matter (POM), and physicochemical parameters in a creek water column were examined in an estuarine mangrove ecosystem of Xuan Thuy National Park, Vietnam. The objective was to examine the factors influencing creek water properties, and the sources and exchange of POM in this important mangrove ecosystem. The diel and seasonal variations in water temperature, flow velocity, pH, dissolved oxygen, and salinity demonstrated that tidal level, season, and biological factors affected the creek water properties. Mangroves had relatively low ??15N and very low ??13C values, with respective average values of 1.5?±?0.9?? and ?28.1?±?1.4??. The low mangrove leaf ??15N indicated minor anthropogenic nitrogen loading to the mangrove forests. A significant positive correlation between POM?C??13C and salinity along the axis of Ba Lat Estuary, Red River, indicated that marine phytoplankton (??13C value, ?21.4?±?0.5??) was the predominant source of POM at the estuary mouth. Based on the co-variation of ??13C and C/N ratios, marine phytoplankton and mangrove detritus were predominant in POM of major creeks and small creeks, respectively. During the diurnal tidal cycle, the dynamics of POM were affected by sources of organic matter, tidal energy, and seasonal factors. The contribution of mangrove detritus to POM reached a maximum at the low tide and was enhanced during the rainy season, whereas marine phytoplankton contribution was highest at high tide. 相似文献

In order to find the relationship between the shaft lining stability and the coal extraction operation, a 3D numerical model of strata layers and shaft lining was established for simulating the influence of coal extraction operation on shaft lining. Certain factors including mining depth, safety pillar width, mining width and mining height were taken as the influence factors in the simulation. The results indicated that the coal extraction could lead to the initiation of the failure in the aquifer and rock layers. As the mining depth increases, the shear strain increment in aquifer becomes small. In this case, the distance between mining panel and aquifer should be larger than 220 m and the safety pillar width should not <70 m. The maximum principal stress in aquifer had a little relation to mining operations. The mining panel width should not exceed 50 m without any support. 相似文献

A field experiment was conducted in a maize field in 2006 in an arid area of the Yellow River Basin in China. The daytime evapotranspiration (ETc) and soil evaporation beneath the maize canopy (E g) were measured by Bowen ratio energy balance method and micro-lysimeters, respectively. The results showed that the total ETc during maize growth season was 696 mm, and the maximum values occurred at about 90–140 days after sowing. The crop coefficient (K c), which was calculated from the ratio of ETc to reference evapotranspiration (ET0), was quite different from the values reported by other researchers in similar climate areas, with average values of 0.34, 0.47, 1.0 and 0.9 for initial, development, mid-season and late-season stages, respectively. High correlations between leaf area index (LAI) and average K c for every 4 days were obtained. The total E g was 201.4 mm with average values ranged from 0.92 to 2.05 for four growth stages of maize; and accounted for around 28.9 % of ETc. The ratio E g/ETc showed high negative relationship with LAI. These results were very important in precise management of irrigation for maize in Yellow River Basin areas. 相似文献

We have measured near-infrared colorsof the binary Kuiper Belt object (KBO)1998 WW31 using the Subaru Telescope withadaptive optics. The satellite was detectednear its perigee and apogee(0.18“ and 1.2” apart from the primary).The primary and the satellite have similar H–Kcolors, while the satellite is redder thanthe primary in J–H. Combined with the Rband magnitude previously published byVeillet et al., 2002, the color of the primaryis consistent with that of optically red KBOs. Thesatellite's R-, J-, H-colors suggest thepresence of ~1 μm absorption band dueto rock-forming minerals. If the surface of thesatellite is mainly composed by olivine, thesatellite's albedo is higher value than the canonicallyassumed value of 4%. 相似文献
