The sound velocities of two aluminum-rich phases in the lower mantle, hexagonal new Al-rich phase (NAL) and its corresponding high-pressure polymorph orthorhombic Ca-ferrite-type phase (CF), were determined with the Brillouin scattering method in a pressure range from 9 to 73 GPa at room temperature. Both NAL and CF samples have identical chemical composition of Na0.4Mg0.6Al1.6Si0.4O4 (40 % NaAlSiO4–60 % MgAl2O4). Infrared laser annealing in the diamond anvil cell was performed to minimize the stress state of the sample and obtain the high-quality Brillouin spectra. The results show shear modulus at zero pressure G0 = 121.960 ± 0.087 GPa and its pressure derivative G’ = 1.961 ± 0.009 for the NAL phase, and G0 = 129.653 ± 0.059 GPa and G’ = 2.340 ± 0.004 for the CF phase. The zero-pressure shear velocities of the NAL and CF phases are obtained to be 5.601 ± 0.005 km/sec and 5.741 ± 0.001 km/sec, respectively. We also found that shear velocity increases by 2.5 % upon phase transition from NAL to CF at around 40 GPa. 相似文献
A sudden strong coastal current called a “kyucho” occurred in August 2013 in the eastern coastal waters of Wakasa Bay, Japan. This study examined its characteristics based on both observational data collected by intensive field investigations and the simulation results of a numerical model. The field investigations comprised moored buoy observations near the coast and voyages by a research vessels and fishing boats. The mooring observations indicated that a current speed exceeding 50 cm s?1 occurred abruptly near the eastern coast of the bay, in association with a synchronous change in the current direction. Data collected by acoustic Doppler current profilers (ACDPs) mounted on the vessels showed that a clockwise eddy existed in the bay and that the current on the east side of the eddy generated the kyucho near the coast. Based on the results of the numerical model and the analysis of the ADCP data, it was considered that the clockwise eddy was generated by a strong current at the tip of the Tango Peninsula, in the western part of the bay. As the eddy propagated from west to east across the bay, it induced the kyucho in the coastal waters in the east of the bay. 相似文献
We produced a four-dimensional variational ocean re-analysis for the Western North Pacific over 30 years (FORA-WNP30). It is the first-ever dataset covering the western North Pacific over 3 decades at eddy-resolving resolution. The four-dimensional variational analysis scheme version of the Meteorological Research Institute Multivariate Ocean Variational Estimation system (MOVE-4DVAR) is employed to conduct a long-term reanalysis experiment during 1982–2012. After evaluating the basic performance of FORA-WNP30, the interannual to decadal variability is analyzed. Overall, FORA-WNP30 reproduces basic features in the western North Pacific well. One of outstanding features in FORA-WNP30 is that anomalous events such as the Kuroshio large meander and anomalous intrusion of the Oyashio in the 1980s, when there were no altimeter data, are successfully reproduced. FORA-WNP30 is therefore a valuable dataset for a variety of oceanographic research topics and potentially for related fields such as climate study, meteorology and fisheries. 相似文献
A laser-heated diamond-anvil cell that is capable of operating up to a pressure of 63 GPa, with X-ray diffraction facilities using a synchrotron radiation source at the SPring-8, has been developed to observe the compressibility of a hexagonal aluminous phase, [K0.15Na1.66Ca0.11Mg1.29Fe2+0.86Al3.13Ti0.09Si1.98] Σ9.27O12. The hexagonal aluminous phase is a potassium host mineral from the subducted oceanic crust in the Earth's lower mantle. A sample was heated using a YAG laser at each pressure increment to relax the deviatoric stress in the sample. X-ray diffraction measurements were carried out at 300 K using an angle-dispersive technique. Pressure was measured using an internal platinum pressure calibrant. The observed unit-cell volumes were used to obtain a third-order Birch–Murnaghan equation of state: unit-cell volume Vo=185.94(±16) Å3, density ρo=4.145 g/cm3, and bulk modulus Ko=198(±3) GPa when the first pressure is derivative of the bulk modulus K′o is fixed to 4. The density of hexagonal aluminous phase is lower than that of coexisting Mg-perovskite in the subducted oceanic crust. 相似文献
The phase relations and the element partitioning in a mid-oceanic ridge basalt composition were determined for both above-solidus and subsolidus conditions at 22 to 27.5 GPa by means of a multianvil apparatus. The mineral assemblage at the solidus changes remarkably with pressure; majorite and stishovite at 22 GPa, joined by Ca-perovskite at 23 GPa, further joined by CaAl4Si2O11-rich CAS phase at 25.5 GPa, and Mg-perovskite, stishovite, Ca-perovskite, CF phase (approximately on the join NaAlSiO4-MgAl2O4), and NAL phase ([Na,K,Ca]1[Mg,Fe2+]2[Al,Fe3+,Si]5.5-6.0O12) above 27 GPa. The liquidus phase is Ca-perovskite, and stishovite, a CAS phase, a NAL phase, Mg-perovskite, and a CF phase appear with decreasing temperature at 27.5 GPa. Partial melt at 27 to 27.5 GPa is significantly depleted in SiO2 and CaO and enriched in FeO and MgO compared with those formed at lower pressures, reflecting the narrow stability of (Fe,Mg)-rich phases (majorite or Mg-perovskite) above solidus temperature. The basaltic composition has a lower melting temperature than the peridotitic composition at high pressures except at 13 to 18 GPa (Yasuda et al., 1994) and therefore can preferentially melt in the Earth’s interior. Recycled basaltic crusts were possibly included in hot Archean plumes, and they might have melted in the uppermost lower mantle. In this case, Ca-perovskite plays a dominant role in the trace element partitioning between melt and solid. This contrasts remarkably with the case of partial melting of a peridotitic composition in which magnesiowüstite is the liquidus phase at this depth. 相似文献
Scattering of elastic waves by inhomogeneous and anisotropic bodies in a half space is considered. The integral equation method is formulated by using the fundamental solution of a homogeneous isotropic body in elastostatics and regarding the resulting inhomogeneous terms as equivalent body forces. Numerical examples are presented for the wave scattering by inhomogeneous and/or anisotropic alluvial valleys and for the dynamic analysis of an inhomogeneous dam. The effect of inhomogeneities and anisotropy on the dynamic behaviour of alluvial valley and dam is discussed. 相似文献
A dynamic effective stress analysis with the finite element method has long been recommended to predict the liquefaction phenomena of sandy soil by authors and Zienkiewicz et al. as well as the similar approaches by the others. Our approach of the analysis is summarized in the first.
Until recently, however, these approaches has not commonly been used as the means of design, although its capability of prediction is appreciated by geotechnicians. This method has been neglected because of the lack of verification studies of soil models of sand and mathematical formulation for boundary problems of liquefaction phenomena. Therefore the verification of the numerical method to evaluate liquefaction potential are urgent requirement of the recent engineering practice. To respond this requirement, extensive numerical studies on the liquefation simulations are performed by DIANA program for shaking table tests which have been conducted by the authors. The test models are soil-structure type models with combination of homogenous ground and partially improved ground by compaction.
The good performance of our approach is proved by the results of numerical simulation showing good agreement with experimental data in terms of response acceleration, excess pore pressure, and deformation profile. It is also demonstrated that the numerical results can provide substantial information to understand the mechanisms of soil ground behavior which is not easily obtained by experiments.
The procedure to identify soil constants for the reflecting surface model is also reported in details. 相似文献
A new polymorph of FeS has been observed at pressures above 30 GPa at 1,300 K by in situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction measurements in a laser-heated diamond anvil cell. It is stable up to, at least, 170 GPa at 1,300 K. The new phase (here called FeS VI) has an orthorhombic unit cell with lattice parameters a = 4.8322 (17) Å, b = 3.0321 (6) Å, and c = 5.0209 (8) Å at 85 GPa and 300 K. Its topological framework is based on the NiAs-type structure as is the case for the other reported polymorphs (FeS I-V). The unit cell of FeS VI is, however, more distorted (contracted) along the [010] direction of the original NiAs-type cell. For example, the c/b axial ratio is ~1.66 at 85 GPa and 300 K, which is considerably smaller than that of orthorhombic FeS II (~1.72) and NiAs-type hexagonal FeS V (=√3 ≈ 1.73). The phase boundary between FeS IV and VI is expected to be located around 30 GPa at 1,300 K. The phase transition is accompanied by gradual and continuous changes in volume and axial ratios and may be second order. At room temperature, FeS VI becomes stable over FeS III at pressures above 36 GPa. It is, therefore, suggested that the phase boundary of FeS III–VI and/or FeS IV–VI has negative pressure dependence. 相似文献
We have determined the post-perovskite phase transition boundary in MgSiO3 in a wide temperature range from 1640 to 4380 K at 119–171 GPa on the basis of synchrotron X-ray diffraction measurements in-situ at high-pressure and -temperature in a laser-heated diamond-anvil cell (LHDAC). The results show a considerably high positive Clapeyron slope of + 13.3 ± 1.0 MPa/K and a transition temperature of about 3520 ± 70 K at the core–mantle boundary (CMB) pressure. The thermal structure in D″ layer can be tightly constrained from precisely determined post-perovskite phase transition boundary and the depths of paired seismic discontinuities. These suggest that temperature at the CMB may be around 3700 K, somewhat lower than previously thought. A minimum bound on the global heat flow from the core is estimated to be 6.6 ± 0.5 TW. 相似文献
