We report preliminary results of an observing run at the 1--m telescope at CTIO during which we followed RR Pic over several nights in February 2005. The resulting light curves show no sign of an eclipse. Apart from the 3.48 h period, which is usually interpreted as the orbital one, we find an additional period at P=3.78 h, which we interpret as the superhump period of the system.We furthermore present high–resolution Doppler maps in Hα, Hβ and He II, which we derived from observations at the NTT, La Silla in February 2004. They show strong variations in the emission distribution from one day to the next. While Hα and Hβ emission clearly show the accretion disc with some additional isolated sources, the He II emission is confined to an elongated region at low velocities.  相似文献

Some connections between aerosols, atmospheric transport, and relative humidity are investigated based on measurements at Basic Environmental Observatory (BEO) station, peak Musala (2,925 masl) for the period January 2009–January 2010. Data are chosen at 0:00 and 12:00 GMT every day. Main methods employed in this research are statistical—nonparametric tests of Mann–Whitney and Spearman. The main conclusion is that greater aerosol load at peak Musala is connected with transport of air masses from north to east horizon quarters. Bigger particles with longer lifetimes come from there. Air coming from the south horizon quarter is aerosol clearer. Relative humidity shows opposite distribution—higher values for transport from south horizon quarter. Correlation between this parameter and aerosols is negative with significant but small value. Distribution of blue, green, and red scattering and backscattering coefficients is similar to distribution of total aerosol concentration. Correlations between scattering and backscattering coefficients and total aerosol concentration are significant and positive. Courses of total aerosol concentration; diameter of particles with maximum concentration; and blue, green, and red scattering and backscattering coefficients have summer maximum and winter minimum. Diurnal course of total aerosol concentration in the two main seasons, winter (January) and summer (July), has day maximum and night minimum. Aerosols at peak Musala are predominantly of transparent or translucent type. The calculation of Ångström exponent α is more precise by using scattering coefficients. The nephelometers data could successfully characterize the haziness of the atmosphere above peak Musala.  相似文献

To develop P management guidelines for poultry litter application in Oxisols of Brazil, the relationship between water soluble P (WSP), soil test P (STP), and degree of P saturation (DPS) needs to be established. The study examined this relationship in Oxisols of Brazil receiving poultry litter. Soils were analyzed for Mehlich‐1 P (M1‐P), WSP, P fractions, P sorption index (PSI), and P saturation based on Mehlich‐1 extractable P, Al, Fe (DPSM1), and PSI (DPSPSI). Surface water bodies in the catchment area were examined for inorganic and total P. All the surface water bodies in the catchment area of the sampled plots were highly enriched in inorganic and organic P. Enrichment of soil P fractions following poultry litter application followed the order HCl‐bound > NaOH‐bound > NaHCO3‐bound fraction. M1‐P was correlated to labile (NaHCO3‐Pi), and stable P pools (NaOH‐P and HCl‐P) and reflected the cumulative P accumulation in these soils. P saturation indices increased with cumulative P addition and increasing M1‐P. WSP increased with increasing DPS and a change point was noticed at 23% DPSPSI (equivalent to DPSM1 of 16.5%) corresponding to M1‐P of 44.5 mg P kg?1, which could be regarded as threshold for P loss in these soils.  相似文献

Horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratios (HVSR) of ambient vibrations measured in the ancient town of Ston (Croatia) on 99 locations, are shown to be well matched to the theoretical ones computed for body-waves as well as for the surface waves. This match is poorer for sites on the slopes of nearby hills. The ratios of measured peak horizontal ground acceleration during the damaging earthquake in 1996 (M L = 6.0) and the ones obtained using empirical attenuation laws is approximately equal to the mapped value of the dynamic amplification factor determined on the basis of observed HVSR in the vicinity of the accelerometric station. The HVSR of the accelerogram is very similar to the HVSR of the ambient noise. The damage to the building stock in the old town centre caused by the earthquake series of 1996 is closely related to the estimated soil amplification and its fundamental frequency. More measurements in buildings are needed to arrive at confident conclusions about possible soil-structure resonance.  相似文献

A method to estimate the dynamic magnification of nonlinear seismographs is presented. The method was tested by applying it to the record of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake seismogram obtained on the Vicentini seismograph in Zagreb, in order to reconstruct the ground motion amplitudes. The magnitudes inferred from the corrected Vicentini recording of P- and surface waves are internally consistent ( m b= 7.74, M s= 8.48) and agree with the values published in various catalogues, within the error limits of magnitude determination for individual events. The corrected P-waveform is compatible with a rupture slip profile exhibiting several distinct maxima along the 300 km-long section of the San Andreas fault, in accordance with recent studies and contemporary geodetic measurements.  相似文献

This study evaluates the performance of two bias correction techniques—power transformation and gamma distribution adjustment—for Eta regional climate model (RCM) precipitation simulations. For the gamma distribution adjustment, the number of dry days is not taken as a fixed parameter; rather, we propose a new methodology for handling dry days. We consider two cases: the first case is defined as having a greater number of simulated dry days than the observed number, and the second case is defined as the opposite. The present climate period was divided into calibration and validation sets. We evaluate the results of the two bias correction techniques using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov nonparametric test and the sum of the differences between the cumulative distribution curves. These tests show that both correction techniques were effective in reducing errors and consequently improving the reliability of the simulations. However, the gamma distribution correction method proved to be more efficient, particularly in reducing the error in the number of dry days.

We present a new approach for mapping open cracks and tension fractures within rock slope instabilities and rock cliffs, which resides in high-resolution ground-based and airborne infrared thermography (IRT). The method is restricted to cold seasons, and its utility is demonstrated through three examples from the Flysch Belt of the Outer West Carpathians (rockslides at Kopce Hill and Mt. Kněhyně) and from the Northern Calcareous Alps (deep-seated gravitational slope deformations in Gschliefgraben/Mt. Traunstein). The approach is based on a contrast between temperatures deep within the rock mass, which at a depth of few meters represent local mean annual values, and winter-time temperatures of the ground surface. In winter, warmer, buoyant air from depth rises to the ground surface through open cracks and joints, and the temperature contrast can be detected by IRT. Our test survey was conducted in the beginning of February 2012, in order to achieve the best contrast between temperatures around open tension cracks and the adjacent ground. For temperature sensing, we used a FLIR B360 thermal camera; for airborne surveys in the ambient air, temperatures at the time of our surveys ranged from approximately ?19 to ?7 °C. IRT results conclusively revealed the presence of open cracks, loosened rock zones, and pseudo-karst caves over a distance sometimes greater than 1 km. The IRT approach proved useful for rapidly assessing the distribution of open cracks and tension fractures, key information required for assessing rockfall and rockslide hazard.  相似文献
