A set of parabolae is defined to approximate the observed gravity profile for specifying the lateral density variation in a two dimensional causative body. This variation separates the “biased” as well as “unbiased” residual anomaly structure. The method may be directly incorporated into existing numerical and graphical techniques of interpretation for subsequent delineation of structural configuration. The simple relations derived by inspection of the observed gravity profile permit universal application of the technique and in particular for the determination of the size and shape of sub-shelf structures. The suitability of the method in various problems of two dimensional interpretation has been indicated through an illustration of the Godavari Basin (India).  相似文献

Laboratory experiments on longitudinal dispersion in clear-water and sedimentladen flows are reported. These experiments indicate that the presence of suspended sediment does not have a significant effect on the dispersion process other than its possible effect on the friction factor. Analysis of the writers' and other's data collected in laboratory flumes and natural streams Shows that Taylor's model of longitudinal dispersion based on one-dimensional Fickian diffusion equation with a constant dispersion coefficient, DL, is not suitable for describing the dispersion process in natural streams as DL tends to increase in the downstream direction. Therefore, a similarity analysis of the concentration distributions, on the lines of Day and Wood, has been carried out. The investigated area around Sarvapuram represents a part of the Karimnagar granulite terrane of the Eastern Dharwar Craton, India. Garnet–bearing gneiss is hosted as enclaves, pods within granite gneiss and charnockite. It is largely made up of garnet, orthopyroxene, cordierite, biotite, plagioclase, K–feldspar, sillimanite and quartz. The peak metamorphic stage is represented by the equilibrium mineral assemblage i.e. garnet, orthopyroxene, cordierite, biotite, plagioclase, sillimanite and quartz. Breakdown of the garnet as well as preservation of the orthopyroxene–cordierite symplectite, formation of cordierite with the consumption of the garnet + sillimanite + quartz represents the decompressional event. The thermobarometric calculations suggest a retrograde P–T path with a substantial decompression of c. 3.0 kbar. The water activity(XH2 O) conditions obtained with the win TWQ program for core and symplectite compositions from garnet–bearing gneiss are 0.07–0.14 and 0.11–0.16 respectively. The quantitative estimation of oxygen fugacity in garnet–bearing gneiss reveal log f O2 values ranging from-11.38 to-14.05. This high oxidation state could be one of the reasons that account for the absence of graphite in these rocks.  相似文献

The present investigation aims to optimize dose and pattern of distillery effluent for sugarcane irrigation. The postmethanated distillery effluent (PMDE) was recorded to have significant amount of micro‐ (Na, Zn, Fe) and macro‐ (Ca, Mg, N‐NO3, P, K, S–SO) nutrients and so was utilized for sugarcane irrigation. Lysimetric studies were conducted to assess the impact of PMDE on sugarcane productivity with different concentrations (50 and 75%) and irrigation patterns (intermittent and pre‐sowing). The intermittent pattern of ferti‐irrigation with 50 and 75% effluent dose for sugarcane crop was found to enhance the growth and quality parameters of crop without impairing the groundwater quality. Results were more pronounced with 75% intermittent irrigation as the percent increase with respect to control for plant length, cane girth, cane weight, number of internodes per cane, dry matter accumulation, juice extraction, sucrose content, and available sugar were 28.0, 42.5, 14.6, 40.2, 54.4, 18.9, 44.9, 57.9, and 50.0%, respectively. It is suggested that PMDE can be used as an alternative of fresh water irrigation and also as a fertilizer for sugarcane, provided that the effluent quality and sugarcane quality is continuously monitored to avoid any contamination.  相似文献

The recognition of pyroclasts preserved in sedimentary environments far from its source is uncommon. We here describe occurrences of several centimetres-thick discontinuous basaltic pumice lenses occurring within the Early Eocene Vastan lignite mine sedimentary sequence, western India at two different levels – one at ~5 m and the other at 10 m above a biostratigraphically constrained 52 Ma old marker level postdating the Deccan Volcanism. These sections have received global attention as they record mammalian and plant radiations. We infer the repetitive occurrence of pumice have been sourced from a ~52–50 Ma MORB related to sea-floor spreading in the western Arabian Sea, most plausibly along the Carlsberg Ridge. Pyroclasts have skeletal plagioclase with horsetail morphologies ± pyroxene ± Fe–Ti oxide euhedral crystals, and typically comprise of circular polymodal (radii ≤10 to ≥30 μm), non-coalescing microvesicles (>40–60%). The pumice have undergone considerable syngenetic alteration during oceanic transport and post-burial digenesis, and are a composite mixture of Fe–Mn-rich clay and hydrated altered basaltic glass (palagonite). The Fe–Mn-rich clay is extremely low in SiO 2, Al 2 O 3, TiO 2, MgO, alkalies and REE, but very high in Fe 2 O 3, MnO, P, Ba, Sr contents, and palagonitization involved significant loss of SiO 2, Al 2 O 3, MgO and variable gain in Fe 2 O 3, TiO 2, Ni, V, Zr, Zn and REE. Bubble initiation to growth in the ascending basaltic magma (liquidus ~1200–1250 °C) may have occured in ~3 hr. Short-distance transport, non-connected vesicles, deposition in inner shelf to more confined lagoonal condition in the Early Eocene and quick burial helped preservation of the pumice in Vastan. Early Eocene Arabian Sea volcanism thus might have been an additional source to marginal sediments along the passive margin of western India.  相似文献

Many types of structural systems that undergo cycles of inelastic deformation under severe natural hazard loadings exhibit ‘pinching’ of hysteresis loops. In this paper, a generally pinching hysteretic restoring force model—an extension of the Bouc–Wen differential hysteresis model—is used in stochastic equivalent linearization of single-degree-of-freedom structural systems. The severity and rate of pinching are controlled by the hysteretic energy dissipation and the pinching level can be specified to match experimental data. Under white noise excitations, estimates of reponse statistics from linearization are shown to compare favourably with those from Monte Carlo simulation. Numerical studies on the sensitivity of the accuracy of response statistics obtained by linearization to changes in the hysteresis parameters showed that, for a range of practical cases, the linearization method can be used in lieu of simulation and that, in low-frequency systems, some hysteresis parameters may be set to a constant value a priori to reduce the number of model parameters that needs to be estimated or identified, and to simplify further random vibration analysis and/or performance evaluation studies.  相似文献

The Palaeogene sedimentary record in the Himalayan foreland basin contains palaeosols that are interpreted as reflecting changes in climate through time with the passage of the Indian Plate from the equator to 30° N latitude. To understand spatial and temporal variation in the occurrence of diagnostic palaeosol types, 12 exposed stratigraphic sections were investigated and studied in detail using petrographic and geochemical techniques, including scanning electron microscopy and X‐ray mineralogy. Oxisol (bauxite) is a karst bauxite that occurs in crudely bedded and laminated forms. It contains gibbsite, goethite and kaolinite and shows chemical index of alteration values close to 100, demonstrating intense weathering. No gradual change in the concentrations of trace and rare earth elements is recorded. However, their behaviour suggests that the Oxisol was produced by weathering of basalt under a warm and humid climate. Histosol (coal), found stratigraphically higher than Oxisols, contains woody structures dominated by vitrinite maceral. The Histosol is interpreted as having originated from an undisturbed peat developed in a swamp of high tree density under wet tropical climatic conditions. Up‐section, calcrete profiles of stages 3 and 4, containing rhizoliths, pellets, filamentous calcite and Microcodium, have developed by pedogenic processes. Large negative stable carbon (?8·5‰ to ?11·2‰) and oxygen isotope values (?8·5‰ to ?12·6‰) suggest that the studied calcretes formed under the influence of meteoric water and soil organic matter in dry sub‐tropical climatic conditions. The formation of Oxisol in a warm and humid climate was possible in the equatorial region when part of the Indian subcontinent was close to the equator. The coal developed under a humid climate when the northern tip of the Indian subcontinent reached the intertropical convergence zone, while the pedogenic calcrete formed once the sub‐tropical climatic zone was reached. Hence, it is suggested that these palaeosols formed in different climatic zones during northward drift of the Indian plate and that the drift brought them to their present positions between 30° N and 35° N within the sub‐tropical climatic zone.  相似文献

The three dimensional variational data assimilation scheme (3D-Var) is employed in the recently developed Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model. Assimilation experiments have been conducted to assess the impact of Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) surface observations (temperature and moisture) on the short range forecast over the Indian region. In this study, two experiments, CNT (without AWS observations) and EXP (with AWS observations) were made for 24-h forecast starting daily at 0000 UTC during July 2008. The impact of assimilation of AWS surface observations were assessed in comparison to the CNT experiment. The spatial distribution of the improvement parameter for temperature, relative humidity and wind speed from one month assimilation experiments demonstrated that for 24-h forecast, AWS observations provide valuable information. Assimilation of AWS observed temperature and relative humidity improved the analysis as well as 24-h forecast. The rainfall prediction has been improved due to the assimilation of AWS data, with the largest improvement seen over the Western Ghat and eastern India.  相似文献
